It was beautiful and quiet. If you walk through and embrace the history it’s quite a journey. The trails are well maintained with some nice views over a swamp.
Scenic, informative, and private. Not many visitors. I dislike that loudspeaker announcements from a nearby car lot or something that was heard loudly and frequently. As soon as you begin to loose yourself in the peace and tranquility of the beautiful nature around you another unwanted announcement boombed yet again
Great walking trails. Clean bathrooms. Well written historical markers. Covered pavilion large enough for small to medium groups.
Wonderful place to walk and good descriptions of defensive positions.
Nice park ..kid & dog friendly and there is a nice restroom.
Quiet and clean. Very nice little historical spot.
What a great place to walk and look at history. Step in the places all the soldiers found for freedom.
Excellent. Well marked with many informational placards. You can visualize the battle.
Great trails for my little buddy and me....
Nice easy hike. Great for family. Lots of history. Love this place.
Vert well maintained & marked. Wish there would have been maps to use on the trails. Great terrain, trail markers were good. A very beautiful area and historical info available. Thank you to the Historical Society !
Peaceful walk with educational information.
Great trail walks and learning to see.
Good for walks and interesting historic perspective from New Bern Historical Society
Very beautiful and detailed trails. Very detailed information
I was very impressed with this Battlefield Park. My wife an I went looking nice place to walk. We found so much more. The site is a living history of the battle that took place there. We learned a lot about that time period and that horrific time in our nations history. She had a relative that fought in the New Bern campaign. Visiting the site was extra special for her.
Nice place to picnic and walk. Road into the park very bumpy, hard to go in with our camper for lunch.
Ive been to many Civil War battlefields. This is an excellent stop for a good hour in the defensive positions of the Confederates who held there. Ive never found a relic. My wife found a fragment of a 6lb cannon ball in five minutes! (We left it there.) Child friendly trails.
Vary beautiful fun trail and vary Educational
Love this battlefield park. Trenches well preserved with good trails, bridges and walkways plus the beauty of the swamp. Captures the situation of the battle in 1862.
What a wonderful time we had here. A real treasure that has been preserved. The kids loved finding all the shark teeth and we loved the mostly shaded walk. Magical views crossing little streams on well built bridges. Who would have thought that was there right off the highway.
A beautiful preservation of an important Civil War Battle. If you can visit here - Bring mosquito spray and comfy shoes to walk on the wooded trails. Be sure to visit the preserved trenches. Take the time to read the informations boards. Bathrooms available.
Great place to hike and learn.
One of my favorite parks in the New Bern area. The trails arent super long unless you make multiple laps, but its very beautiful. There is also plenty of history to dig into if thats your thing. Bring a camera.
Very informative. Nice walk and well kept trail. There was information at each stop telling intetesting information about what happened at that spot.
Nice piece of history.
The restrooms are clean plenty of parking a nice place to get away from it nice and quiet and they have nice pathways and displays
Very nice place to visit
Saw my life Wood Storks here on Feb 20, 2019. I am the first person to have ever photographed a Wood Stork in Craven County! Unspoiled natural habitat with a lot of potential for birding. Wood Ducks breed here as do Mallards. Old growth attracts a lot of woodpeckers. You might hear a Barred Owl calling in the late afternoon, and in the spring you can hear the song of the Wood Thrush. The trails are easy hiking, of course as with any outdoor environment, be mindful of snakes and ticks, but in my many visits I have only seen a snake twice (one copperhead and one harmless corn snake). And in wet conditions be careful on the bridges. Stick to the trails and enjoy the scenery. Beautiful park with a rich history, and right across the street from a Dunkin Donuts. Highly recommend!
A nice place for a hike.
Nice place to bring the family
It was today but great, wish we had gone sooner
This is a worthwhile walk through history. Markers are informative and accurate to landmarks. My 8 and 12 year old grandchildren were interested in reading every marker.
Very nice place. Well maintained. Great paths through the woods to walk and learn from placards and signs they have up.
Nice trails. Plaques on trail to explain progression of war & outcome. Redans still plainly visible from war.
Beautiful location and lots of history
This was our first time going to the battlefield, and it was so much fun! All the kids, and adults, truly enjoyed themselves. We will definitely make it a point to come every year, for as long as they have it!
Great walking/ hiking trail.
Its beautiful and well maintained. The natural terrain is very close. It is easy to imagine the circumstances of the battle. Ive never seen woods and swamp quite like this place.
More a network of nature trails than a Battleground experience and grossly underdeveloped to the full potential. Very limited in scope compared the the actual battle fought there in March 14, 1862.
Best Civil War battlefield Ive visited so far. It is a refreshing change from the open fields common with many Civi War battlefields and is a great place to take a relaxing walk as well a learn about the men and women that fought there.
Interesting and informative displays. After turning off highway 70 watch closely for a white sign on the left to find your turn. It is so easy to miss. They should have another Civil War Trails marker to more clearly mark the turn.
Really easy short trails with lots of facts along the way. Beautiful place.
Great place to take kids to learn some NC history.
Great please to spend a couple hours. The group that works on it and maintains it are strictly volunteer and do it out of the passion of their hearts. It is all self-guided so bring a bottle of water and take a stroll through the woods
Nice but small trail area. A little hard to find as you might pass the entrance if you dont know what you are looking for. This place is located next to railroad track and behind a golf course. I wish they would have given the park a little more precedence over the surrounding area instead of putting it in the corner; in a manner of speaking.
It was a very interesting place, we walked a couple of the trails, back where they used to fight the war how cool
It was pretty cool, got to look at a lot of areas that the war took place in, including the fighting trenches dug in the swamp. All of this is aided by presentations throughout the park. Animal friendly, however there is one section where a bridge is partially destroyed.
Well done historical park where some re-enactments take place
Very nice short walk, well maintained
Trails were short and easy to walk for the most part. Our dog loved it also.
This place is wonderful for people of all ages. Anyone who loves nature walks, and the outdoors will enjoy themselves here. Theres sharks teeth, shells, coral, and various rocks to observe along the trails. Our family really enjoyed themselves, and will definitely be back for new adventures!! Thank you for the experience, and information.
A nice park. Walking trails are excellent around the battlefield. This is a self guided tour, with boards explaining the who, what, where, when and why. Be sure to bring bug spray, mosquitos are plentiful. Ample parking and restrooms are available. Give yourself just about 1 hour (longer if you read everything)
Nice place to wander. All self guided. Good signage teaches about the war, local events, and the life of the soldier. No longer looks or feels like the space that would have been here since the time, but does a good job of explaining.
Interperative markers, walking trails well placed, excellent maps to orient you to positioning of troops and their movements, beautifully maintained historic field works and the general, natural beauty of the area, highly recommended
Really nice park. Well kept walking trail and very interesting history. Exercise for the mind and body!!
Great, relatively new and developing, historical park. Plenty to do, and a lot to learn. The walking tour is a must. There are plenty of things to read and learn how things occurred. It is a great time to take a casual walk and learn at the same time.
Very peaceful and solemn place. Lots of informational plaques to help you understand what youre looking at.
Nicely done and a pretty place to take a short walk.
Very easy walk, beautiful woods, nice historical info
Well groomed trails with interesting story boards. Took my 9 and 6 year old grandkids and it held their interest.
Some trails were closed. The hurricane was almost a year ago
New Trails! Information down most trails too.
Very interesting, nicely done.
Beautiful! Just beautiful!
Well maintained. Very historic.
Very pretty, lots of interesting plaques
Lots to see here and more that could be seen. Some of the battlefield is on private land and cant be accessed. Trails are well maintained and signs give a great presentation of battle actions. The center needs some improvement, but depends on private donations. The volunteer was courteous and we (my brother and I) were invited to see his collections of artifacts hed found over the years at various places... many Civil War items. I was well pleased with my visit, especially since I had two relatives in Brems Battery, Confederate, at New Bern.
Great place
OkThey did their best with whats left thay hasnt been lost to developers. Junk yard next door does not belong on a sacred battle ares. Nice plawuards and one csnnomVery informativeWish there was lots more know and to display. No indoor displays..
Very well kept up
Small but so nice. Informative. Respectful. Good trails and more.
Very interesting and lots of wildlife. Definitely will return
Very interesting visit. To think that all that was constructed without modern tools.
Educational, peaceful & fun geocaching sites!
This is well maintained and it’s nice to be able to read the biographies and history that took place here.
Though it is a nice historical place, it is a good place to spend a couple of hours with your kids. Restrooms are clean. Trails are well maintained.
Well marked...nice trails...
Very interesting but watch out for skeeters!
Great presentation of one civil war battle field. Thanks to the preservation groups for their work.
Great place to take your dog nice well marked trails
Serene, quiet. Even thought its close to the highway.
Lots of history. Nice clean trails. Beautifully taking care of.
Awesome
Informative and a nice walk
What a lovely and extremely well maintained Civil War battlefield Park. Extremely well marked and posted site. Not to be missed!
Great trails and visual displays. Would love to see an overlay of present day roads.
Good lace to walk. The upgrades to infrastructure they recently did are good.
Excellent place to visit. Very sombering.
Historic site. Very informative. Lots of opportunity to walk, but some of the paths lead nowhere, which can be confusing.
Small well maintained
Great place to view a little local history and great trails to walk
Beautiful woods to take a nice walk
Owned by the historical society. Very friendly and informative.
