For a Municipal course it is normally in good to great shape. The Inside & Outside Staff are very helpful. The Proshop has very nice golf apparel. I had several questions when trying to setup our golf tournament & Gene helped me by providing copies & explaining in detail how to use the information. Proximity markers were provided upon request & they had (8) of the (12) we needed to my surprise. I would definitely recommend Whispering Pines throughout most of the year; right now a few of the greens had trouble spots. I saw overseeing of multiple areas so they should be back to great shape soon.
Great course to say at a reasonable price..fruendly, helpful staff also. Course well marked and easy to follow. The only thing that would have made a difference in our day was NO torrential downpours on the back 9!
Really nice course. We played 9. Not an avid golfer so if you are pro might not think the same. Starter commented that it is a hidden gem.
Nice shape, fairways and greens very nice. Very playable course. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great value for the money. Greens a bit small so need to be accurate on approach shots
Well taken care of! Golf carts all nice! We were a party of 7, everyone had a great time!
First time playing this course so always a bit harder. White tees about 6200, which we played the front nine, are very challenging with good number of water and sand hazards. Green tees around 5800 which we played the back more doable for those of us with handicaps in the teens. Course is in decent shape with only few bare spots on the greens. Fairways are fairly narrow and green side rough pretty thick. 3 of us finished in under 4 hours on Sunday morning. For $35 on the passport a decent value but being 40 minutes away probably wont go back any time soon.
Friendly staff especially the starter. Very good layout with almost no houses and plenty of water hazards of course. Greens were in good shape although a little slower than I prefer. Not a championship course by any means but for $50 it is an excellent value and I would definitely play here again.
I absolutely love this course! It was in fantastic shape and was very green and lush. All of the fairways and greens are immaculately maintained and the greens actually roll true. This is hands down the beat course Ive played in a decade and I would play it again and again.
A fun layout that is in Great condition. The greens were in perfect condition. Plan on playing it again on Thursday of this week.
Family vacationing in Myrtle Beach so decided to try this course. Terrible experience. When reservation was made we told staff we had 4 plus a child and that only 2 were experienced golfers. They made a single tee time for the group. Course Marshall was on our tail from Hole 1 telling us to hurry yet we were told that we had a 4 hour limit. He was even hiding in bushes like a cop waiting to catch a bad guy. Only made it to par 4 (45 minutes into the game) before we were approached again by the course cop. After this constant harassment we decided to get off the course which made my 8 yr old grandson cry as he was looking forward to playing in MB. He golfs back home & even beats his grandpa & uncle at times. Ruined our views of Golf at Myrtle Beach Wouldnt even give them a star but they did reimburse us!
Best rangers on the strand. Really keep the pace moving at this great course
Nice course in good shape ...greens top notch...great price for locals at $35 but a bit overpriced for out of towners at $48...would definitely play again...staff was great
The starter needs to learn how to talk to people, maybe hes too old to realize hes actually suppose to be nice to customers. Very surprised that someone hasnt slapped his pompous behind yet
Normally well kept and good services. It closes kinda early though
8/12/2020- Told it was a good beginner course and family friendly........ Wrong. Course Marshall was an a$$ from hole one. Only made it thru 4 holes and basically got kicked off the course because the course marshall made us feel like we werent welcome nor good enough to even be on the course. Made my 8 year old nephew cry because the course Marshall was such an a$$. Never go back again. Beginner and family friendly my a$$
Nice people good condition. Will play there again.
Very well maintained Golf Course in a perfect location right across the street from the airport. Most of the time in perfect condition except when the weather turns. The course drains very well. Great staff. This is a public course so the facilities are small and not really equipped. But, if you have some clubs and you want to play a quick round with no hassle for a low price this is a good place to go.
Staff members were cordial and helpful. Greens have been aerated recently so went to driving range. Driving range rates are very reasonable for turf practice. The practice balls are several years old.
Nice layout with a nice price. Challenging without being overwhelming. Hardly any out-of-bounds stakes, and most every hole has a bailout on at least one side.
Great place to golf at a reasonable price.
Nice course and priced right
You absolutely get bang for your buck at this golf course. This course used to be owned and operated by the military on a former Air Force base and has a fantastic layout. I played in early October and the conditions were absolutely perfect, lush and green. The front nine is pretty simple, but does force you to hit fairways. The back nine has some teeth to it and is definitely a challenge. You cant beat the prices and friendly people here! Id highly recommend this place to any golfer looking for a good deal.
This course was much better than I expected. Theres a ton of water making it challenging enough but if you keep the ball in play its fairly easy. For the price it cant be beat.I did happen to lose my silver frame black lenses Oakley Half Jacket 2.0 XL sunglasses. If you happen to have picked up them and kept them, I dont blame you but I wont be mad if theyre returned. ;)
If you’re a golfer who has ever dreamed about stepping off the plane and right on to the golf course, Whispering Pines Golf Course in Myrtle Beach, SC can come as close as any club in America at making your dream come true. In fact course owner Chip Smith has pictures of golfers lugging their golf bags and luggage across the street to play a round golf course. The golf course at Whispering Pines is a challenging as it is beautiful to look at. The course has been carved out of over 200 acres of mature hardwood and towering pine trees. The course originally opened in 1963 and was redesigned by Texas architects Finger, Dye and Spann in1983.If you like to see mother nature at her best, this is the place for you! In 1998, Whispering Pines was designated a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” by Audubon International. At the time, they were only the 3rd course in South Carolina to achieve this honor. For several years, conditions at Whispering Pines deteriorated and the course lost many of their regular players. In 2015, Atlantic Golf Management – who was the previous operators of TPC Myrtle Beach – stepped up and assumed management of the course. Atlantic has made many improvements, including better conditioning of the course, and have plans for many more. You’ll find tree-lined fairways, strategically placed lakes, and well undulated TifEagle greens await your arrival at Whispering Pines. Although it’s located across the street from the airport less than five minutes from the heartbeat of the Myrtle Beach oceanfront, Whispering Pines offers golfers tranquility. There are no homes on the course; so no backyards or windows to worry about. It’s just you, mother nature and the occasional fighter jet buzzing overhead!Whispering Pines has some impressive practice facilities including a full-length driving range; a chipping area and practice putting green. You can hit a few balls to get loose before your round or hit a few buckets and work on different aspects of your game so you’ll be ready for your next round. In case you can’t figure things out on your own, golf lessons for all skill levels at the Whispering Pines Golf Academy.Unlike many green grass golf pro shops that have given in to the big box golf retailers, the pro shop at Whispering Pines carries a good selection of golf apparel from such well-known companies as Antigua, Callaway, Divots and more. They also have the latest shoes from Nike and Callaway and the prices on the equipment they stock will match or many cases beat the big box outlets. Whispering Pines pro shop also stacks a wide selection of balls, gloves and accessories. Equipment and accessory brands include Adams, Titleist, Callaway, Cleveland, Nike, Wilson, and more. One thing you’ll notice at Whispering Pines is the size of the greens; for the most part they are small and elevated; a double whammy for many! This places a premium on accuracy on your approach shot. During your round, it’s not uncommon to see military jets doing some practice runs or flying over information. After all, the Myrtle Beach airport was once an Air Force base and the golf course was previously known as Myrtle Beach AFB Golf Club. With an above average course rating of 70.9 and a slope of 128 from the White Tees, Whispering Pines offers most golfers a good challenge, with no gimmicks. As you stand on the tee, what you see is what you get, all you have to do is hit the shots and make the putts! It’s a great place to get in the first or last round of your Myrtle Beach golf vacation.
Great drainage system for the rain and also great course!
Course in great shape. Only issue, fairways not always great lies but it is January. Other than that greens very good, always one of my favorites. Great price, great people.
Good course to play.in good condition and close to mb airport. Let your mb golfing experience start here right after arriving in mb.
While it may be a Muni and not a top course, Id play here in a regular basis. We got around on a Monday morning in just under four hours! The staff was friendly and courteous. The course was in good shape. While we didnt think they needed to go full cart part only after the rain overnight, they get to make the call and I respect that overall. The price is right and its a solid course. Challenging and interesting hike layout. If youre a military person or like history theres some cool bios on each bike about former commanders of the base locafed at each hole as a marker.
Nice course. Its in great shape. Some bunkers have overhanging lips so its hard to hit long irons out of them but enjoyed the day.
I had one of my most enjoyable rounds of golf. The course is beautiful and I played it in January. Bill the starter was exceptional. A must play course.
This course is not worth the money. Staff and Owners are Anti Police and asked a friend to remove a Blue Lives Matter shirt. Total discrimination and not worth then spend with so many other choices.
Great course. IMHO...one of the best in the area
Golf course was in good shape. Greens had been aerified a few days prior to our playing, but we were told that when making our T time.
Nice course. Good staff.
Very nice course! Some challenging holes., nice layout and lots of water. Probably one of the better municipal courses in Myrtle Beach. I would recommend this course to everyone to play who gets off the plane.
Whispering Pines is not the same as most Myrtle Beach courses. Found it to be in very good condition and the layout makes it different than other area courses. Greens were true and fairly fast. Fairways were cut a shade longer making it a bit more playable for average players. Staff was accomadating and helpful. Nice clubhouse and restaurant facility. Give this course a try!!
Decent course, easy to play, not the most scenic or plush, but it works.
Went to play and was wearing PGA Shorts and and PGA mock neck collar shirt which is legal on tour. Tiger, Rory, Jason Day wears but Im told I cant play a municipal course with that attire although 4 people checking in after me were wearing jeans and that was fine with the Pro. Avoid this place!!
Greens were terrible. Lots of burned-out areas and very rough from aeration several weeks
Went there this morning, they DONT PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING, even though the governor and Myrtle Beach endorses and supports the effort it’s not happening at whispering pines, question was and is how do you do the 6’ social distance with two unrelated individuals in golf cart? Wouldn’t play with those stipulations
Well maintained golf course. The best cart paths Ive ever seen. Pace of play was slow on the back 9. Seems to get a lot of traffic. Decent range with chipping Green with a bunker.
The course was in good shape and fun to play, nice lay out. Very interesting with the airport right across the street.
Course is challenging. Greens & fairways are well maintained. Getting out of the ruff can be a . Goes without saying, best to stay in the fairways. Fair amount of sand traps and water. Par 3s tend to play longer than posted. Although course is not comparable to top courses in Myrtle Beach, for the price, definitely worth playing.
Course is in excellent shape! Offers great risk reward challenges. Great staff too!
Enjoyable round on mature course in Myrtle Beach.
Great course, fun holes, well maintained. The staff makes it, though. Everyone we encountered was extremely helpful.
Any course or business that has issues with LEOs or military personnel will no longer receive a dime from this retired combat veteran.
A very excellent golf course. The staff was very helpful.
Course is in great shape. Friendly staff. Great prices!
Great course!
Starter was extremely rude rushed us through thr entire 18 holes. will never return. I use to come and use the driving range a few times a week. not anymore.
Very crowded but nice coarse well kept greens
Course was in good shape
Don’t come here unless you’re a local that knows the course and can keep up. We played here before a wedding expecting a relaxing day. Without giving us any warning, a man came up on a cart and forced us to essentially skip a hole because the locals behind our group started too early (were basically shooting par) and were complaining that we weren’t keeping up with their pace. Keep in mind, our group paid over $700 to golf that day. I have never had this happen at any other course in any state. If you’re visiting, I suggest looking for another course for a fun time.
The setup is great, its in very good shape (except for some of the tee boxes) and dont let this Muni fool you, the greens are fast and true. Also, a shout out to the staff, always courteous and professional.
Oh dont get me wrong, golf was great. We had a rain check from the previous year that was figured into our 5 days of golf and when we tried to present them the attendant at the pro shop said we didnt need to turn them in, that it seems that that round was part of our package. Now, over a month later, theyre saying we owe them money. Who keeps a rain check after its been refused. Bad form Whispering Pines.
Very rude and disrespectful, they dispose law enforcement will tell you to leave if you support them or wear anything showing support.
Unable to play because of Blue Lives Matter Shirt, they turned us away!~
Superintendent Steve has done a great job with the course, compared to the way it used to be. Fun course to play.
Very nice track. Very nice people. Not the best in the area. But in great shape. Love playing here.
The site showed that kids 16 and under play free but they charged full price. Disappoint that they did not even say anything. Paid for another cart for daughter which is okay but we seemed rushed at the beginning. Nice course, very long.
Very nice staff, couldnt ask for better service.
Great lay out and in great shape. The price was also great. I will play next time Im in town.
Have always enjoyed the layout and can see the improvements they have made. Staff is great too. Thanks WP!
Very good shape course. Pin placement very challenging. Good food at the snack bar.
Great coarse to play!
Nice course. Pace of play was brutal. 18 holes took 6.5 hours
Great place for some golf
One guy freaken rude . Not good for business. Picking people up guess he didnt like it.Sorry other then that great
Well maintained and fast green. Friendly staff.
The very nice course layout was made hard to appreciate by a staff that seemed annoyed to have golfers play it. I arrived in town on Saturday June 1st, 2019 just in time to get a nice relaxing 9 holes in. I called ahead and was told to head out and play. The course was wide open. I arrived at 6. Sunset was set for 8:30, so I was excited to play a laid back 9 holes. The pro shop attendant soon told me “the snack bar person already left and the starter is gonna be upset to see a golfer so late”. I had called 15 minutes earlier to make sure it was good to come out. The starter proceeded to beg me to play my 9 holes in “record time” because he told his wife he would be able to leave at 7. I was dumbfounded, as I have worked at courses my whole life and we would never ask a player to try to finish 1.5 hours before sunset so staff could get home. Very unprofessional. He then pressured me 2 more times (even with a weird and firm pat on the shoulder) before I tee’d off making sure I knows how important it was to get done fast. Two days passed and I came back for another 9 with my wife and dad since it was the closest course to where we were staying. We tee’d off at 2:30 on Tuesday June 4. The snack bar person eventually was torn away from her phone to come serve us and was generally unpleasant, telling us she was leaving soon and was doing us a favor to not hold our license for a cooler. We were greeted outside by the same starter from a few days earlier, who immediately told me to make sure to throw any trash out on the course, because he had already emptied the trash cans by the starting tees and didn’t want to have to do it again! What!!! How lazy is that. It was 2:30 in the afternoon. That is a terrible thing to ask any time, but the mid afternoon time frame made it even more odd.Overall, I will just say that a pretty nice course is only as good as the staff that welcomes you to it. Do better, Whispering Pines.
Course conditions above average. Friendly staff would recommend
Vert nice golf course that is reasonably priced for the area.
Tough place to golf.
Great course. Played there in 2014 and the guy who checked me in complemented me on my UofL golf shirt. Being from Ky we had a laugh as he told me that we needed to beat Clemson as he was a GameCocks fan. Nice staff and having family that served in the Air Force it was cool knowing that the course was built on an old Air Force base.
Very nice course, played 9 in the evenings, very well kept and reasonable prices, played 9 with a cart for 20 bucks
Need a discount because of the green have been air aided
Great shape ...greens held well and rolled well
Course is in great shape and the cart path has been repaved since my last visit!..
Course was in great shape but the greens were difficult
Well maintained, challenging but fun, reasonably priced
Nice public course. But 5 plus hour round is not great. If your visiting avoid this place . Its for locals including letting out groups of five. There are so many other places close by. Try Prestwick, legends, and Arrow Head really great courses.Shout to your friends that Whispering Pines should be avoided
I only spent time here because of the convenience of the location. Not in very good shape for a Myrtle Beach golf course. Also, the staff could stand to be a little more welcoming to visitors. I walk into the pro shop. Gene is friendly with the local in front of him. Charges him $30 plus tax. I get to the counter. Straight faced without much enthusiasm he says, forty dollars plus tax. They discriminate against travelling golfers! So much for southern hospitality.
I golf in a league at Whispering Pines. The course is in great shape and the staff is very nice. Worth the trip.
Well maintained friendly staff and close by
Great shape
This course was gorgeous and very well maintained. Just watch out for the squirrels they will climb in to your cart.
Great location to play a round just after you get off the plane.
Well groomed and very friendly staff. Reasonable rates.
He enjoyed.
Unlocked so cars out there when I worked for AAA its nice and cozy
Challenging course. Play with someone thats played this course before. Several hidden water hazards & narrow fairways. Ill play it again next visit.
Had a great time
Greens were a little ruff today, but the rest of the course was in great shape.
