Neat little event center. 100% plastic folding chairs for seating. Bathrooms need an update, and probably should be bigger. No hard liquor, but reasonable beer and wine selection. The performance was outstanding! So clearly they recruit high quality performers.I would definitely return.

The Cedar has really been a boon to the mpls music scene. Watched several up and coming acts as part of their series on new artists (they provide grant money and stage time with advertising, etc for the artists!). The room was packed, staff were helpful and friendly, my only complaint is parking is a bit tricky if you choose to drive, but it isnt impossible and alternatives to cars exist. Great place, great atmosphere, great music!

Went to see Samantha Fish here several months ago. Ive been to several shows here before and they were all great. At the last show, I brought my 74 year old father with. He uses a cane and has balance and mobility problems. He was struggling to get through the crowd and the staff made sure to lead him through with a flashlight so he could see his steps, and gave our family front row reserved seats so he could see the show and not struggle to get about. Really appreciate their accommodations and kind, understanding staff. Ive always loved to see music here and they always have interesting line ups, but the way they took care of my father put them over the top in my book! Great venue, great music, great employees, great times :)

An immensely authentic west bank experience. A throwback that remains as vital as ever. Feels like seeing a show in your cool hippie neighbors basement. Such good energy, so chill, so sincere, so warm. Will never not love a show at the Cedar. HEADS UP: some shows are seated (GA), some arent; when it fills up for a show during warm weather it can get hotter than the dickens inside. PRO TIP: parking in UofM ramp is often pretty cheap!

Intimate venue, not a bad seat in the place and you can stand in the back if you want. Parking is metered side street with 2-hr max so they stamp your hand to feed the meter between artists. The Mpls parking app wasnt acknowledging my friends or my parking space otherwise I think you should be able to add time/money on the app. Saw William Wild & Andrew Belle. Wilds acoustic sound was incredible. Worth going just for that. My friend and I had a hard time with the incredibly loud bass, reverberation, and bright flashing lights in such a small space during Belles performance, but others didnt seem to mind so I say check it out yourself. :) Ticket was only $25 and beverages and snacks were for sale. Staff welcoming and friendly!

Nice place for a show. It was different than the places I usually see shows. Kind of had a PBS vibe. I think they normally do plays and theater here, but it worked well for a concert too. They sell beer and have all the usual amenities one would expect at a live music venue.

Is it bad that I didn’t realize that this was still open for business until I went to see my two favorite YouTube comedians there? It’s my bad, honestly, because they had great concessions, solid bathrooms that were clean (it is safe to go here, people who are nervous about public bathrooms!) and they got as many chairs in there as possible! The downside was that they were folding chairs, and we had to move them aside to get in and out, but hey, flexible seating!

I came here to see a band in the middle of winter, until then I had never heard of this place before so didn’t know what to expect. Tickets for the show were inexpensive so that was a great start.Getting to the theatre, I was loving the big sign they have calling it out. Parking across the street in the garage was easy (but not free).Inside the stage is fairly small, although I was in at the last second I was really close to the stage. They had a giant coat rack for everyone’s coat in the corner which speaks about the size of this place. The folks serving drinks were really cool and friendly, smile from ear to ear. Overall this place is really pleasant and I know to expect a good time if I find myself here again.

The nonprofit Cedar Cultural Center is a great place to see folk, international, bluegrass, and Americana music. One of the best venues in Mpls and, in my opinion, anywhere Ive been. I have seen many of my favorite musicians here. Langhorne Slim, the High 48s, Jillian Rae, Elle PF, Communist Daughter, Mark Mallman, & Jig Jam come to mind. The ticket prices are very affordable all the time.I have always been greeted with positive attitudes from the volunteers and staff. Be sure to check out one of the finest venues in this city, nay, the world!

Not only does The Cedar have a great history behind it, but the people who keep it going are gems. They love seeing new faces and will make you feel at home with your first show. Each show that The Cedar brings to Minneapolis is unique and theres something for everyone. Check out the original ska band or their upcoming Harry Potter themed rock band. Youre bound to find something you like. Hungry for a snack? Theyve got you covered, with the house tap, various bottled drinks, tea, coffee, and hot cocoa, as well as great treats to munch on.The best advice I have, get there fast. Space fills up quickly.

Was lucky enough to do a photoshoot and interview of David Wilcox when he performed here recently. While I wouldnt have expected it, the acoustics here are amazing. If Id looked carefully I would have noticed all the old sound panels around the room (it used to be a theatre Im told). To put it in perspective, during his sound check David, (who can and did quite literally tell the person at the sound board exactly what frequency he was hearing that needed adjustment), had them completely cut the reverb because the room acoustics sounded so naturally perfect to him. Its definitely on the edge of a sketchy neighborhood, but look around more closely and youll see fantastic community services and projects going on including The Cedar itself. So please dont let that dissuade you from this gem.

Charming volunteer-run community performance space, booking both local and national acts. Sound was fantastic for the show we attended. Venue served 16oz beers of a pretty good variety for the venues size, plus a few beers on tap, wine, and soft drinks. There were also a bunch of snacks for sale. Cant comment on the quality/variety of every booking, but I had a really special experience!

I really enjoy seeing shows here. Small intimate venue. Its an old classic theater that just has a homie feel. No frills and its well staffed and booking is done by First Avenue I believe. There is no barrier between the crowd and the stage so you can get as close to the stage as youd like. I have been to a few shows where the artist will stay after and mingle with the audience. I really like the neighborhood too.

I love what The Cedar stands for; community arts programs at a reasonable price. Often they bring in the folk singers or ethnic groups that would otherwise not have a venue. Most run by volunteers and off of grants and donations, so fancy isnt a word used here. If I had 1 complaint, it would be the seating. Folding chairs for several hours are challenging as one ages and I do find them a struggle.

We love this place for the culture and entertainment it brings to our town. Still, it is a small venue that has not gotten beyond its hippie roots. The shows are diverse and well chosen, the atmosphere friendly. But the seating is crowded and on folding metal chairs. Some shows are all standing only, to allow danceing. The restrooms are barely adequate. OTOH, the food and drink offerings are far better than usual. The sound system is good and usually well run. Go for the unique and special events.

One of the truly great independent live music venues in this country. The performance hall is just that : a big square room with a slightly elevated stage, indoor beer and snack service, and artists from around the world: Charles Bradley, Ana Tijoux, Tennis, Kaki King, and Bedouin folk singers being a small sample of the artists I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing here. Very intimate performance setting with a super engaged audience every time. Always affordable price point, and one of the most consistently diverse audiences across age, race, income status. Support the Cedar!!! It’s a rare gem in this country.

We saw Lena Elizabeth, a local songstress who was very good. The main show was Eilen Jewell Band who play Americana, Rockabilly, Blues and some folk/country. The singer is great, all the musicians perfect, and really enjoyed Jerry Miller the steell guitar player. We had so much fun listening, the only thing that could gave been better were the chairs were hard, small, tightly squeezed together. Ive been to shows where the floor was open for dancing, but this was more of a listening experience. There was room to dance if you wanted to. I thought maybe parking would be an issue, but we found a spot in front of the theatre by meter, which was a good price. Since it was a Sunday night, wasnt too busy.
