Tiny chapel with a very interesting history. Its located on Marquette University campus and hosts a lot of students on weekdays. The chapel was shipped from France first to the east coast then to Milwaukee. The level of engineering done to rehab the chapel is amazing. There are pieces inside that are hundreds of years of age and are very valuable. The tour guides are very passionate and knowledgeable. I highly recommend visiting this unique chapel.
Love the small cozy feel
Was on a Gothic Milwaukee tour and this was part of the tour, then we went to Point Burger Bar on Water Street. Had a great time with Ron and our friend Michelle.
In the summer hopefully there will be some flowers blooming. Small building. Set off from the main street of Wisconsin Avenue.
Interesting site, very hard to find/get to. The lady inside was weird and rude.... you would think they would put a Godly person in that role. Well, maybe she was having a bad day, it happens.
Looks amazing!
Beautiful little chapel and piece of history! I love that its usually just open for exploring or as a spot to pray. Theres a docent there too whenever its open if you have any questions, but they will usually give you space to just contemplate.
I did not know this place existed until yesterday and Im so happy my family stumbled upon it while walking around Marquette. It is beautiful and there is a deep sense of history inside. 10/10 recommend.
Took the family here while visiting my old stomping grounds. Just as I remembered. Some much needed pre-exam prayers back in my day
This is a diamond in the rough of Milwaukee. Unknown to many who pass by on Wisconsin Ave. This is the ultimate emblem of Marquette. Tradition states that St. Joan of Arc kissed a stone in the alter prior to heading to battle. This stone has been scientifically proven to be at least 10 degrees colder than any other stone in the chapel. You can feel the difference. #WeAreMarquette
Great 1000 pm Wednesday night mass cir nearly 40 years.
Sorry to see an institution of higher learning with mumbo jumbo about a cold stone.
Great history but poor tour
Quiet area in the middle of campus. Has rustic charm to it. Good for photoshoots outside but inside area is usually reserved for prayer.
What a wonderful, special place to visit and go to mass.
How they were able to put it back together I dont know.
Bright and quaint. great place for students to get some quiet time.
Lovely Chapel. Noon Mass is very special!
Really interesting place, and the caretaker really explained it in an engaging and illuminating way.
Beautiful spot. Thank you so much.
At my Alma Mater, Marquette. Beautiful little chapel and very spiritual
Beautiful. Mary was extremely informative. Will visit again.
Joan of Arc Chapel sits at the heart of Marquettes campus. A Beautiful setting on a slight hill top with ornate flowers as you approach the entrance of the chapel. The chapel originally erected in 1420 was bought by philanthropists and moved to Marquettes campus in the 1960s . This is a historic structure and if you are nearby I recommend a stop to see this very historic chapel and the beautiful campus of Marquette.
I might of drove pass it. I did not go in it.
Loved this place! Thanks to the Marquette university for preserving this important piece of European history here in the U.S.
Peaceful place. A local gem!
Simply beautiful.
Like stepping back to a medieval time. Beautiful!
Beautiful and holy!
We could not go inside since campus was closed but saw a little through windows
Beautiful
A must visit if you are in Milwaukee. A sanctuary.
A 15th century imported French chapel still functioning with services. Any history or religion buff would feel lucky to attend. And a great photo op!
Beautiful and very peaceful
Absolutely beautiful.
Lovely chapel with an intruiging history
This place is awesome.
They oldest building in America!
You need to visit this place!
A beautiful spring day taking in the alma mater sites...
Soak. It. In. Marquette.
An absolutely gorgeous place to pray, seeped in history and Jesuit tradition. Tuesday Night Mass is a must for any of the faithful, both at Marquette and beyond!
Incredible. Amazing history.
Beautiful chapel and gardens
Incredibly beautiful and powerful chapel
The St. Joan of Arc Chapel, originally built in France in the 13th century and shipped to Milwaukee in the 1960, is a completely unique, gorgeous worship space. Regularly filled with prayer and song, the Chapel is the heart of the Catholic community at Marquette.
Very surreal!
This is a historic place and a must see.
Capel of Joan of ArcLocated on the Marquette University campus, The 500+ year old chapel is surrounded by gardens. It is best to visit during the summer as the gardens are in bloom and there is significantly less student traffic. Parking can be a problem as Marquette is an urban university located in downtown Milwaukee.During the Hundred Years War there was a period when France suffered significant and repeated losses. It was during this period when a young woman, Joan, received several visions instructing her to lead an army to protect and recover France. King Charles VII appointed Joan head of his armies. (The situation must have been dire as Joan was very young.) After many successful battles, Joan was captured by the British and burned at the stake. She was only 19 years old.It is believed that this is the chapel where Joan of Arc had her vision. The actual name of the chapel is Chapelle de St. Martin de Seyssuel. Most of the chapel was built in the 15th century though there are sections that appear to be much older dating back to the 12th century. Originally located in Chasse France, it was moved to storage on Long Island in 1927. In 1965/1966 it was reconstructed and relocated to the Marquette campus. In addition to the building there are altar cloths and other old relics inside the chapel.
