Nostalgic historical museum of footage and collectibles from the early 1900s - 1940s. We were the only people in the museum last Saturday and the person working, Joel, took an hour and a half out of his time to walk us through the museum and give great additional commentary. A wonderful experience well worth the ticket price!
The Chudnow Museum of Yesteryear offers an entertaining and informative look at life in Milwaukee in the 1920s and 1930s. Exhibits span two floors of a huge home that was built in 1869 on the (then) western edge of the city. Today it sits on the eastside of Marquette Universitys campus. Ample parking is in the back of the building.
Amazing and information was outstanding. Thank you for a wonderful giving me and my client great customers service. I will be back.
Without a doubt, one of the most fascinating places I’ve ever visited. The tour guides are so informative and professional, and are very entertaining. This was such a cool place to visit!
My husband and I visited the museum today and really enjoyed it. There is a lot to see in this old house. All the artifacts were displayed very nicely in a clean environment. The curator was very personable and made us feel welcome with stories about some of the items on display. The theater shows historical clips about Chudnow and his family. We were there for about 2 hours. A great place to hang out and learn about our past.
A place to visit in Milwakee, history, curious, fun, voyage to the past, old living style all in one place.
Pretty cool museum showcasing life in the past! Don’t forgot to look for the hidden speakeasy and almost every room has an audio button that plays jingles, sounds from the past. The museum staff was extremely nice and helpful. Unfortunately, not all buttons (seems like mostly the ones upstairs) were in working order. Also, as much as the women’s history cards/facts are appreciated, it would be even better if women’s history was more integrated as part of the exhibit, rather than on cards next to them. But overall a worthy museum to visit when in Milwaukee!
Highly recommended. Didn’t think learning could be so fun and interesting. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.
Awesome blast from the past, speakeasy was cool! Really helpful staff and well take care of.
Great museum, Many interesting artifacts from 1910-1940. Exhibits change throughout the year, so youll want to explore often!
Very cool place to check out! Staff is very friendly and offers a tour guide!
Fantastic little museum, each room feels like you stepped into a different shop in the Streets of Old Milwaukee. This building is packed to the brim with cool pieces of history, not only of Milwaukee but all of the U.S. There is something here for people of all ages.
I am a mom to 4 children ranging in ages from 5-14. I thought this was super neat just going alone with my husband.. but we decided on a whim to bring the kids the next time we were in Milwaukee and much to our surprise they all thought it was cool!!They have scavenger hunts for the kids for each room. So while looking at all the old stuff it’s made fun for them.I’ll for sure be going back.
Fun quirky museum tucked away on a side street. Worth checking out. Its a fun collection of.......junk. But its fun. And its only $6.cheap!
What an amazing place in downtown MKE! Lots of nostalgia pieces and many rooms decorated to look like places from long ago, like a drug store, soda shop, barber, etc. A definite must see. Great for kids too.
When my son and I visited, I thought it would be a chance for me to share some of my memories with him. The experience was much more and we both learned new things. We enjoyed the way items are organized in rooms, giving one an immersive experience. Its a very cool place!
Super friendly staff. Lots of cool stuff but doesn’t feel quite like a museum but more like a private collection.
Great museum! Full of cool early 20th century stuff. Staff is very knowledgeable! We enjoyed it!
I LOVE THIS PLACE! The amount of memorabilia they have is amazing. Its like stepping into a time machine. I first went on a date with my BF and took my daughters back a little while later. We all are in agreement that its pretty cool
A quirky little collection of old time household items. Definitely worth a walk through and the entrance fee is right.
Amazing experience, must go see for anyone who loves to experience the old life style. Has a lot of cool artifacts from the older years
Wonderful museum! Well curated and put together exhibits. The free guided tour with admission was an excellent way to make the most of the visit!
This cute little museum has so much history in it. And the man who runs it is the best tour guy! His passion and tenacity while telling all about the history there makes this place all the more better. Well worth $6.
What a neat little place chock full of nostalgia and history with an enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff. This is a perfect rainy/snowy day afternoon stop that will put a smile on your face.
Wonderful place with interesting exhibits. The staff are friendly and helpful, I didnt do a guided tour but from what I overheard they seemed very good. Lots of interactive exhibits and theyve been made interesting - eg theres a few shops set up.Theres scavenger hunts to do as you walk around. Fun place to go for all the family with reasonable prices.
What a gem! I took my children and they engaged in a scavenger hunt that was offered, which was a great way to learn more about the historical significance of many of the items in this museum. The house itself is also beautiful with hardwood floors and built-ins. I like the idea rotating the exhibits, I will definitely return to see whats on display next time. So glad someone is preserving and sharing this history!
Cool little museum in downtown Milwaukee showcasing local memorabilia and artifacts. Lots of interesting displays, and when I was there they were showcasing female contributions to everyday life (e.g. invention of monopoly). Staff were very chatty and knowledgeable too.
Full of things from yesteryear and did a scavenger hunt staff very friendly and knowable
Very cool collection of stuff from the early part of the 20th century. Each room set up as a different site - from a grocery store to a doctors office to a soda fountain.
Probably the best museum in Milwaukee - and that’s saying something when the city has Calatrava and Harley Davidson museums. The artifacts here are relatable, the staff is knowledgeable and extremely nice, and you can touch and interact with most rooms. A must visit for any tourist!
Love this place!
Fantastic place, very helpful and informative staff. The exhibits are very well done and really help you get the sense of immersion in the era. The exhibits are also rotated so that each time you come, theres something new to experience.Very reasonably priced and a guided tour is available at no extra cost. I look forward to coming back in another month when they change over to a new exhibit.
A fun little museum of early Midwestern history
So glad we stopped in to check this museum out. The guides were there to answer any of our questions. This is well worth the money.
Really fun little house to go check out. Every room is a different theme. Had a great time walking around. Learned a few new things. Took us about an hour to go through the whole place. I recommend stopping in to check it out if you have an hour or so to kill.
Anyone interested in life in America (especially the Milwaukee area) during the first half of the 1900s will love this museum! Hundreds of collectables on display.
A nice, budget friendly look back into the 20s-40s. Each room focuses on a theme, which was really neat. I loved the pharmacy and grocery store. The gentleman volunteering was very knowledgeable and helpful. We are glad we stopped on our way to Green Bay. Budget friendly, not a huge place but enjoyable.
The staff here are very kind and friendly and knowledgeable and passionate about their museum.
Small but intimate museum with some amazing artifacts from Milwaukees past
Definitely a step back in time. The curator was extremely knowledgeable on the history of the Chudnow family. There are so many interesting collections in various rooms, including a speakeasy. I highly recommend folks sea out this gem of a museum!
Super fun spot with very cordial and knowledgeable staff--worth the stop!
Such interesting things to explore! Excellent guides as well.
Lovely little local history museum with artefacts and ephemera focused on 1900 - 1930. See the short form documentary films in the upstairs theater.
Very nice cozy museum, definitely go on the tour!
Super unique and cool, the gentleman that was working was very nice and knowledgeable . Highly recommend checking it out!!!
It was fun in their. Check groupon for discounts.
Love this place, learned alot of fun stuff, museum docent was friendly and has onsite free parking!
Was a very interesting place to go..... Loved how they set up the different rooms...... Children even enjoyed the old time grocery store.....ice cream parlor..... barber shop...ect...
The people that give the tour are very nice and knowledgeable. The prices are excellent.
Amazing place and staff! Very knowledgeable!
Love this place. Learning every time we go. Joel knows his stuff.
Wow! Super cool! We loved every square inch if this Museum. The volunteers were knowledgeable and friendly too. So fun!
Great little place to getaway in the middle of the city. Vast array of awesome little trinkets and antiques in all these neat rooms in an old but nice house. Highly recommend if you are looking for something inexpensive to do in Milwaukee.
This little gem was well worth the $5 admission price. The exhibits are recreations of typical spaces, lovingly hand-created by a passionate and knowledgeable staff. Its a great chance to dig deep into Milwaukee history by looking at a snapshot in time. Ask the tour guide about any topic in the museum...or any topic NOT in the museum...and learn a ton about the past and people of this city!
One the most unique and beautiful museum. Must visit if you’re in Milwaukee! The staff is friendly and if you’re an American culture junkie or curious as us then must visit!!
So much fun, absolutely recommend as a quick activity for a date or with friends
Nostalgia at its oldest... Lots of little blurbs about great women whove contributed to America, and great visuals of a past thats no longer
Based on the collection and enthusiasm of one collector, this house museum gives you a window into everyday life in the early 20th century. Your visit can be as short it as long as youd like - and at the end, have a bottle of cold Dang soda. Easy to find, with some parking spaces in a lot on the side...
This place was a nice surprise. Lots of interesting memorabilia. I think anyone would enjoy this but it would be most special to someone from Milwaukee.
It is wonderful ! You could spend several hours here and not see everything. Well worth the cost of admission.
Think of the Milwaukee public museums Streets of old Milwaukee, then multiply it by ten. That pretty much sums up the chudnow collection. We thoroughly enjoyed each room as we worked our way thru the house. The curators offered interesting facts along the way.Off street parking is available in the back. This is a must-see destination for anyone interested in the history of Milwaukee.
Great small musuem to visit. Lots of fun items to view. Staff is super friendly and helpful. They are always changing up the exhibits with items from storage.
Always enjoy this museum! Friendly staff who is always willing to share interesting information about Milwaukee. Kid friendly!
I very much enjoyed this place. We visited during Doors Open Milwaukee so it was a bit crowded, I would like to go back when its less crowded and really look closely at all the cool things.
An incredible place to visit. If you like nostalgia, this is the place to go. Advertising pcs, general store items, prohibition collectables, even a hidden speakeasy. Cost is only 6 dollars. Well worth the trip.
Really neat look into the history of Milwaukee. The museum is filled with artifacts from Milwaukees history and a few from Chicago. Definitely worth a stop if youre in town to visit or a local. They also have a bunch of local treats if you need that Milwaukee tradition fix but dont want to go for custard... or before you go for custard.
Great experience of authentic late 1800s architecture and history of milwaukees golden days. Beautiful home and amazing exhibits inside the house. Everything you see and touch is authentic from the late 1800s. Kids had a blast with the 100 year old wall phone downstairs and upstairs. Friendly tour guide and full of great info on the house. Would highly recommend coming here. I will be back again with my friends and family.
Very interesting your family and friends would enjoy it need to go and enjoy yourself
If you like history, you will find many things from years 1910-1920. Excellent place to go in winter. You can spend a great time here. Old things like phones, a grocery store, a pharmacy. Some history also about gangsters. Its very interesting. The only bad thing is that is a bit small. Its like a house.
Wonderful small museum with fascinating displays of objects from 1910 through the 1940s
Great little museum, reasonably priced with some great history. This is a place that you can fit in and not have to spend the whole day at. 1 to 2 hours is all you need.
A huge collection of what would have been ordinary things from roughly the early 20th century. This was a great place to spend a couple of hours,
Very cool museum, had no idea it was there until we found it in Groupon. They apparently switch out large parts of the collection routinely so should be worth multiple visits.
Definitely worth paying $6 to see all this history
Small by museum standards but has very interesting theme-based rooms filled with some serious antiques! Great, friendly staff provide tours. Gift shop with nostalgic treats. Has a soda shop! We learned a lot.
This is the cutest little Museum the owner was really wonderful he was filled with a lot of information my kids actually really enjoyed this seems a lot of things from the past learning a little bit of history of Milwaukee and one thing I really liked about this museum is they covered a lot of womens history which I feel is not taught in school so my kids actually learned a lot from this place
Very cool museum of a very large collection. Very informative and educational. Would go back to see the great items on display.
If you are visiting Milwaukee you must go here! The look back at Milwaukee in its heyday means it should be one of your first stops. Extremely helpful staff and personal tours make the experience one of a kind. Plus its super cheap. Less than $5 a person. GO!
Neat place to see some vintage pieces of a bygone era. Definitely worth a look.
For a small, quirky museum this one us really good. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an hour or so to kill in Milwaukee. Its cheap, too.
Not much interpretation, just lots of old stuff in a rather small place.
Milwaukees quiet gem
What a gem! Great place to visit a time gone by
Waited too long to visit this place. Well be back!
The museum is a place of warmth and wonder while what surrounds it is concrete and highways, so it really does represent a different scale of life and another time. A great way to start our visit to Milwaukee.
Wonderful array of artifacts, displayed realistically, with facts and historical context to transport you
A great experience with a guided tour and lots of interesting information about the items on display.
This was a very quaint and historical step into the days of yesteryear.
Lovely collection of yester year American lives. It is an educational tool for the younger generation.Very enlightening.
This is a great place to visit. The cost is low, but the quality and atsmophere is very high.
Really interesting collection of vintage items, with a particular focus on things with a connection to Milwaukee or Wisconsin generally. The museum is well arranged, with each room presenting a vignette of life from the 19th or early 20th century. There was a grocer, a drug counter, soda shop, doctors office, toy room, and even a speakeasy tucked away upstairs. The curator was friendly and spent nearly an hour with us, guiding us through each room and talking about the collection. If you prefer to wander on your own, thats ok too.In general, this museum is a bit of a cross between the Pabst Mansion and the Streets of Old Milwaukee. Compared to the Pabst, the focus is more on the items and lifestyle, and less on the building. And it feels more authentic and real than the public museum. Definitely recommended if youre looking for a way to pass a few hours and are interested in local history.
Loads of fun. Tour guide very informative!
Very cool. Family owned and operated
Very cool little place. Guide was great and very informative.
First time visitor to Milwaukee. Really cool place, with a nice staff. Took the guided tour and it added a lot. Went with some locals who had never been and they loved it.
Highly recommend! This was a neat little museum and the tour guide was full of information about the exhibits and Milwaukee. We learned a lot and had fun! We got a Milwaukee made soda that we sipped throughout the museum. Delicious! The kids enjoyed the scavenger hunt and got a small prize at the end. Great way to spend an hour! Look for a Groupon to save on admission, although admission is reasonably priced already.
Fun spot to see history from the common peoples way of life. How we lived with some explanation of why some things were that way.
A great place to learn about history!
