I like the hike OK. It’s basically a carriage Road so it’s a walk. If you’re serious hiker than you should know that it’s not going to be a real hike. Nice views, and a good cardio workout if you load your pack. The signage for the rock is pretty bad. It makes no sense to me why they can’t lower it LOL. It’s almost like a joke to try to find the rock. Nevertheless, it’s pretty close to my home and if you want to get out and about and walk along a nice dream, hit it!
Hike was Ok, make sure to check out water falls! From Trail head its mostly a road and an uphill climb, The Views are why i rated 5 star!
For novice hikers like us, this mountain is difficult enough to make us work hard while also enjoying it. The only parking is on the side of the road and the trail begins at the very end of Rootville Rd. It’s easy to miss Prospect Rock at the top (look for the sign on the right side). It’s ok if you miss it as there will be another sign 500 ft ahead (this one you can’t miss) which will instruct you to turn around. Enjoy your hike!
Got there on a Wednesday morning, there were no signs for parking or for the trail entrance. There were no signs to follow during the trail, on a hunch we walked up the street and found the trail. It was an immediate incline, make sure to make a left when the trail splits. 50-60 minutes to the scenic outlook, it will be on your right but there is no sign so you have to be looking for it. I would say this trail is moderate to hard and very rocky but the view is worth it.
Great view. The trail is more of a gravel road with a continuous incline. Keep your eyes posted for the sign to prospect rock or you will walk right past it. Small viewing area you can sit down and have lunch around the rock
Great hike up. Wear some good footwear. Beautiful views.
A steep climb, but beautiful forest.
Great stealth spots to camp here
Great trail! Even better views!!
The trail is a nice intermediate hike that takes 2-3 hours to complete.Finding the trail requires a map as there is no signage along the roads to guide you to the trailhead. Parking at the trailhead is limited to 6-8 cars. The trail is easy to follow, but the branch to prospect rock is not well marked. Its about 50 feet off the right side of the trail. The view is great.
Nice view worth the trip
Easy hike/run/bike/ski with great views not a lot of effort needed for the reward!
For such a popular hiking spot I hope that the state can clean up the parking situation. There is a parking lot that could fit maybe three cars if they all parked well. Other than that its a first come first serve for roadside parking. Its a quick and easy hike, walking up a gravel/small rock road for the whole way.
Worth the hike even though it is easier than most Im the area
Great, small local hike perfect for when youre pressed for time but still want a decent climb. Its an incline pretty much the whole way except for the last 0.1-0.2 mi when it flattens before the turnoff to the rock, which provides a decent view of Manchester.Theres a small waterfall near the beginning that is especially active at the start of spring. Other than that there arent many features - the trail itself is a wide ATV/Jeep road. One of the best features of this trail is that during even the hottest of days it remains relatively cool from the heavy tree cover. For the portion near the waterfall its even cooler - a good thing to keep it mind when its insanely hot but you still want to get in a hike.2-3 hours.
Its an ok hike, slow gradual climb to the rock outcropping. Nice wide gravel road for a trail. View from the rock is decent, but could be better if some adjacent trees were trimmed.
Peaceful remote beautiful
Beautiful landscape, its a steep one ... bunch of kids in trucks being idiots at the parking area.
Steady uphill hike on a single lane dirt road. Leads to a beautiful overlook of Manchester and Mount Equinox to the West.
Relatively steep but short hike to good views of Manchester.
Dont forget to look up for Prospect Rock marker.
More of a logging road than a hiking trail
Nice view.
