Great hidden gem next to the Zoo and Joe Creason Park. A couple short pretty easy trials with a few hills. It was a little muddy but overall in good shape. Nice scenery and hard to get lost. Will definitely be back due to proximity to home.

Louisville Nature Center is a hidden treasure, tucked away off Trevilian Way across from the Louisville Zoo. It offers a gathering room for event rentals (that can also have guided trail tours!) And a 1.5 mile loop deep into a beautiful wooded hillside. With plenty of wildlife to share the trail with. The bird blind features several large windows where you can watch the birds hopping to the different bird feeders, along with identifying each one with the help of a birdwatching guide book. Its a perfect place to stop by right after work and take in a beautiful walk and connect with nature.

Ive been to the nature center several times and to me its one of the happiest places in Louisville. Its in the middle of the city, but its so quiet and peaceful out on the trails. Unlike Cherokee or Iroquois park, the trails are not very busy and I have spotted wildlife such as deer and even a box turtle out there. The trails are also reasonable short (especially the red maple trail) and are ideal for children. Plus, if you want extra beauty, you can take the loop down the Beargrass Creek, although I wouldnt get in the water because Beargrass Creek is prone to sewage overflow problems.

This a great place to explore with young children. They have a natural play area behind the center. Inside they have a room with a few live animals, books, and other things to explore. You can sit and read with children about the animals and things native to the area. They have some trails to hike as well.

Just a great place to go and spend the day with your family great scenery and the staff there are just totally awesome definitely worth the drive anywhere you’re in Kentucky definitely worth the drive and worth the time

What a beautiful place! Free family fun and adventure. Wonderful garden and pond out front, interactive nature center and 2 short hiking trails. Our children ages 6 and 8 had a blast. Highly recommend.

I love the bird blind near the beginning of the trailhead. Theres now a new childrens play area in the shade at the front of the forest that is wonderful.

Sweet little trails close to home if you need a dose of nature but short on time. You will see deer! No dogs allowed on trail though. Completely understandable.

We didnt even know this place existed, but thinks to the culture pass we got for my son we found it and LOVED IT.There is an awesome trail for nature exploration right in the heart of Louisville. There are multiple legs of the trail for .5 miles, 1.0 miles and 1.5 miles. It was great and my 6yr old wanted to take the long way.There is also a natural outdoor playground so that the kids can play in sandboxes, rock boxes, climbing areas, etcInside was a library with TONS of things for the kids to touch, hold, look at, etc. Animal parts, live bugs and turtles to observe and friendly staff to educate. My son was in awe.We will definitely return!

We had a lot of fun at the open house today. We found the room inside the nature center with books, taxidermy, building blocks, coloring/creating stuff, and even got to see the live snake. We had fun looking at the taxidermy animals and talking about them. Plus, everyone was super friendly. It was pretty cool that they were giving away free trees at the event today, as well! Its really pretty and they have great trails. I would recommend a visit there, for sure!

Enjoyed having the 1.5 mile Oak Trail to myself on this chilly morning. Also took the short Beargrass Creek Loop as well. Narrow but well marked trail, moderate level of demand. Saw quite a few deer at the wildlife viewing platform along the trail.

A moment to get away from it all without having to buy out a chunk of time. Our in town forest is one our families regular treats.:-)

Its a nice place for a short woodsy hike in the middle of town. I like the mostly narrow trails as they are and they are well maintained. Anyone hiking anywhere in a forested area should always be careful with poisonous plants and wildlife. Its all natural!

Beautiful place to visit

This hidden jewel is a wonderful place to escape from the hustle. There are well-kept trails, a bird blind, and an education building to keep you entertained. I wish I had discovered this fantastic gem before now.

Great place to get the family out in nature in the city

I remember growing up and spending a lot of time around the Louisville Nature Center. Noticed all the new trees they planted the playground that they just now implement it it made good with the items within that little forested area to serve as the items needed to preserve the area.I also notice how theyre clearing it out and trimming the trees in the dead trees back and making the past much more enjoyable to walk through and now they have markers good way to get out and get some exercise and enjoy the area.

Delightful nature preserve just miles from downtown. Trails that works be easy for children, even older toddlers and great for an after work breather or a quick weekend hike.

Neat place to take the kids. Watch birds in the bird blind, learn about the native animals of Kentucky or go on a hike through the woods. And its free!

So I have mixed feelings about this place. The staff was great and very informative, but the trails were not in the best condition. They could use some grooming and be made wider. The other thing I would note is to watch where you go. I saw plenty of poison ivy near the trails.

This place was wonderful and exciting even for me as a 50 something person. I plan on going back in the summer

VERY NICE! Today was the first time Ive ever been and I really enjoyed it. They have 2 trails. One is a half mile and the other is 1 and a half miles. The scenery is amazing. Just watch out for poison ivy.

It is a must go! Beautiful, educational, lots of little creatures and butterflies, flowers and trees. Good recharge for the soul.

Who knew there were over 2 miles of wooded trails nestled right in the middle of the city! A great get-away thats only 15 minutes drive away!

The hiking trails are wonderful

Love visiting the nature preserve. I really like the bird viewing building behind the main building. It provides a view of birds and other wildlife feeding. Have a seat and enjoy the silence of nature.Come in early Spring and check out the gardens in front of main building to see what is growing and blooming.

The trail maintenance could have been better. The lack of signs for the trails /on the trails was an issue. I wouldnt be going again. I did see a ton of blue tailed skinks though, which made up for the confusing trails.

The bird blind is awesome! The hours are 930 to 4. So peaceful, and interesting. The best time to go is during migration.

In winter its hard to see spring. Never the less this place is a place to get your walk on. You will find dear in the park. Educational programs scheduled. I just dropped in on a wim and and was delighted with the staffs enthusiasm.

Beautiful place to take the kids. They have 2 different walks, outdoor activities, and a whole room of books, stuffed animals, and a couple of creepy crawlies.

Ok. So my eight year old daughter decides that she loves birds. This place is basically heaven for her. We come back, and do her birthday there.

The bird blind was the best part. My family stayed there for a while identifying all the different kinds we saw there. It was a good time.

My 3 year old is now in love with this center! Parents this is a great place to take our kids to get dirty and learn! The staff of volunteers are all very passionate and you can see their genuine love for nature which makes the trails and nature experience for both adults and children more enjoyable. PS. I tried the trails at first with a stroller for my 1 year old and had to go put the stroller back in the car. They have a bird viewer area sooo cool for little people, and the turtle area is super cool my kid loved learning that the turtle was sleeping for winter in the ground and he didnt even get to see it. But they actually took him out to explain it all to him. Wonderful place for families!

We had a great time at the nature center. The staff was very informative and actively engaged the children with us in learning more about nature. The trails were well maintained and easy to follow.

Lovely education center with a trail where you can escape from the city for awhile and see turtles sunning on the banks of a,creek.I especially enjoyed the bird blind where you can sit and watch,woodpeckers, finches,chickadees and many more birds,and,very,silly squirrels.a great place to take toddlers and young people.

What a jewel, great classes

Went for a birthday nature hike here. Lots of trails to follow and lots of things to see. We saw deer, rabbits, squirrel and plenty of birds. The trails went in all different directions. There is a nice center at the top of the woods but I didnt get a chance to go inside.

The building is small with not much to see. The upside to the place is that the staff are helpful and friendly and a walking trail through the woods.

This is a great place to connect with the community, learn about nature and take short hikes.

Great for sightseeing and learning about nature! Loved sitting in the bird blind watching the birds and squirrels get together with visits from a neighborhood beaver and deer!

Good hiking trails

The trail is very well marked out and easy to walk with four kids. Had so much fun and our kids enjoyed seeing animals.

Very nice trails, always clean and kept uo with, me and my family hike and enjoy a picnic with the deers and woods around us.

This is a good place to learn about nature and just get out and hike on the nature trails.

Great. We were there for an evening event with some great music.

We had a great time here. Dont just walk through the indoor part. Check out their library there, especially if you have kids. There are tons of book, fossils, a snake, millipede, snails and several different animal pelts. We hung out in there for over an hour. And the young lady working was great and spent time teaching us and answering my daughters questions. Great afternoon there and will be back soon.

Very educational place .and staff is beyond friendly . they have a childrens learning room with lots of books and nature things .and also a bird blind to watch birds behind one way glass so you dont disturb the birds .also have a speaker system set up where you can hear the birds and nature sounds .. have 2 trails that are well kept up by the local volunteers...over all a very nice place for the family ..and its totaly free .except for specail classes and outdoor projects.

A wonderful natural center, that gives you a taste of the great outdoors while still being located inside the city. The nature center has two short hiking trails one thats .75 miles and another thats 1.5 miles long, both are perfect for a quick break from your busy life to help you reconnect with nature.

Great place to go for any reason

Louisville is lucky to have a nature center and urban forest right in the middle of the city! This solar-panel clad education center sits on the edge of a large wooded area with nature trails and exhibits. I hope everyone will visit at least once, and consider becoming a member to support the great work that they do providing a teaching opportunity for families and urban school children.

A great urban nature area. They have a bird-blind, a nice trail network, and you can rent space for meetings or parties. Wonderful people running the place too.

A great place to explore especially for little ones

The trails are not marked very well, and the further back on the trails you get, the more questionable your safety. I believe vagrants inhabit the area. No pets allowed. I would not go there alone. It is very beautiful, though.

Nature at its best...trees and flowers very lovely. Enjoyed the bird area where various bird types, squirrels, and chipmunk were eating together in same space!

Beautiful trail, lots of misquitos and chigger brush is the only thing i didnt like, i kept having to swipe tgem away even though i doused myself in bug spray, saw lots of deer, turtles and snakes.
