I learnt that Los Angeles is kinda pioneer and leader in contemporary art from my visit to this museum. Museum is easily accessible (on the metro get off at Pershing square. a short walk and a $1 ride on angels flight) and entry is free for general admission. Large spacious viewing galleries on a single floor. Nice patterns and decoration art. Loved the FedEx glass box real-time art.
Always impressive... and now it’s free but they give you the option of donating with card when you check in or at the lobby in cash. The minimum suggested donation is 7 dollars per person. I went to the “with pleasure” exhibit and it was awesome. The whole area downtown is a bit of dead on weekends outside of the museums, but is lit during the week. Great place to do a lap at the museum, get a drink near by or at grand central market. There is a mini floating trolley you can take to the bottom of the hill to grand central which is a dollar or .50 cents with your tap card. Really fun. I like to hit up the broad at the same time. This place is chill vibes also, the gift shop is but expensive
Free on Thursday. Lovely artworks. They have a whole room specific for Mark Rothko, artworks from Jackson Pollock, and many others as well. New artists work are also exhibited here which is interesting. Works of olden day photographers (Black & White) The free tour (given by Alex) was really lovely as well as they get more in depth about the artworks.
Art walk could be WAY better. The food trucks are sloppy, there could be more street vendors to make it an actual art walk. too many drunkards. Ive only been to one gallery bc the others dont show themselves!
Great art pieces in this collection. Easy set up to enjoy the art through any direction entrance. Enjoy your the pieces at your own pace
Free Admission. Museum is small but very well worth a visit. You will spend at least 2-3 hours in there. There a Lemonade Restaurant right next to this museum and great picture spots.
So many amazing pieces. A fan favorite is their interactive Color Clean-Room where patrons can view (and selfie) themselves in tinted lighting.I loved so many artists displayed but have attached some of my favorite pieces
Timing is everything. The current exhibit didnt fully catch my eye. I attend free nights on Thursdays between 5-8 pm. The gallery is one level, so you wont spend more than an hour or 2. The staff were kind and assisted with questions. They offer tour guides that are flexible, meaning, you dont have to stay on the tour or you can hop into it.
Very cool. FREE Admitance. You still have to get a ticket at the Box Office. Restrooms. No bags inside.
Nice place to experience modern art. You will find paintings, object arts, videos of making of some paintings, few other famous videos, installations, clothes art, metal art, etc. Entry is free. Its decent sized and interesting. Staff is always around to assist you if needed.
Contemporary art is like freedom of expression. They have no boundaries, and no limits. Thats why I love contemporary art, but cant understand without description of what artist want to say. I recommend to see different level of contemporary art.
Beautiful cultural place where you can see paintings, sculptures and artistic works in a quiet, bright and air-conditioned environment
Are fake News better than no ones?Or is this the Kind of contemporary Art?
This museum had a few cool pieces but overall it was small. The admission includes access to the second location which combined made the price more worth it but if you dont have the time/energy to trek between both I would skip
Fascinating place, interesting artifacts and so much to see and to learn
I would like to to say thank you to the entire staff at the Museum, from the Ticket Booth Personal to the Security Attendants, everyone was very courteous and helpful.Being that I traveled from Corona, its easy to get lost in the Los Angeles area, but even there, the staff was giving me directions back home.Kudos, to all of you for making me feel welcomed.
I love this museum! The person who did the Museum tour was so amazing! She had so much energy and passion for the art. At one point she was just touring me and one other person and she still had a lot of energy! She did an amazing job helping me think about art in my own way. She was also open to everyone interpreting the art how they wanted to see it and very supportive! Thank you!
This museum has a wonderful array of artwork from so many talented artist. The Rothko room holds so much weight to it, that one cannot help but just sit in meditation amongst all the pieces. Whenever I visit Los Angeles it is a destination that is extremely difficult to pass up. If you enjoy art even a little this museum is a must see. I cannot recommend it enough.
Interesting and challenging art in a beautiful space. Everyone there is kind and helpful.
Half of it was block... not much to see. Staff not very eager to answer question. Only comforting is that it’s one ticket price for two locations.
After a short wait, I walked in listening to Max Richter on headphones. It was all interesting, almost amusing. And then I saw a piece of art, it almost looks like a giant black canvas. Suddenly I could not hold back the tears. I dont know what boo do this extraordinary pizza by possessed, but it was extraordinary powerful. I wandered around the museum unaffected, I came back to that piece I dont have the exact same effect on me. I have never been to MoCA before, and now, I will return for life.
If I visit a city, I have to visit its museum. The Moca is beautiful even though its a bit small. I loved the arts inside. The staff is friendly and helpful, they will fix your issues if there are any. When you purchase the ticket you have granted a visit to The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. I really appreciated and I suggest you to visit it too.
Small but the exhibits are so amazing you could stay for hours.
Clean and comfortable transportation to rest your feet and enjoy a small ride I recommend. Plus it’s not expensive at all to ride.
If you like Contemporary Art, you will enjoy it and entrance is free.
This is a great place for all ages! You can spend a day here to visit . I spend 4 to 5 hours there the 2 times I went and I felt that I had to go twice to thoroughly experience the museum. They have a cafeteria there so you can grab a quick meal!Highly recommended.
I enjoyed the time here, small Museum but very rich with art.
I feel compelled to leave a review once I saw this museum only has 3 stars. The MoCA and there second location at the Geffen is hands down one of my absolute favorite art collections in LA, and I see a lot of art. Their permanent collection is gorgeous, thought provoking, and varied (and pieces do change from time to time!). Their rotating exhibitions change every few months and are always relevant and energizing. A lot of these reviews are about the museum being closed. Because they do change exhibitions every few months sometimes half of the museum will be closed so plan ahead and you’ll be good!
Really neat museum for the price. A bit on the small side, you can probably get through it in two hours. Didnt have the chance to visit the other location.

Moca is a wonderful museum with nice staff!
At $15 a ticket, this place was really fun. The art was so fantastic and unique! The people at the front desk were very nice and the security guards were very polite too. Every room was extremely clean and there to support the art. I will definitely be going again when theres another exhibition to see.
Art is now free for all. They havent had any new exhibitions so whats on display are great works from their permanent collection. Parking is always challenging so its best to take Metro and walk over.
This place is one of the most interesting article museums. I actually like it better than the broad. We found parking down the street for $8 and enjoyed the angel flight to Grand Central market. After wards we went to oui skyslide just a short walk away. It was a fantastic day. Would also recommend getting discount tickets for ahmenson theater down the street for an evening show
Located right in downtown LA. Small Haley but offering a variety of art. Every Thursday the entrance is free and they offer free yours. Worthwhile going.
Been coming here long before the Broad across the street existed. Much better than the Broad. No booking in advance needed for a visit. This museum and LACMA are the two best art museums in Los Angeles. Then comes the Norton Simon Art Museum (technically in Pasadena), the Geffen, the Broad, the Getty, and the others.
Everytime I come to LA I go check out whats happening at the MOCA. Its not a huge Museum but big enough to spend a few hours in if you enjoy looking at art. The museum is divided into two sections, the modern and contemporary art. I come specifically to see whats showing in their fully rotating contemporary arts gallery. Ive seen some great exhibits there. I definitely recommend the MOCA if youre curious about what artists are currently up to (plus a few years back, Ive seen Warhol exhibits here too). Great stuff, I always leave inspired.
Exceptional great curator, and staff, thanks for the guidance.
Would love to go back if I could.
My guide was amazing, her name was Alex. I totally love it
This is a must-see in Los Angeles. The museum has an incredible range of heart and its exhibitions are world renowned. If your a resident or if youre visiting from out of town this is a place you need to go. Its free to visit on Thursday after 5 oclock. But if you do try to make a contribution. When youre in the museum ask to be on one of the guided tours. The docents are amazing at their Wrath of knowledge and how they make the group Interactive.
Great staff and an amazing location. Some great contemporary art works and exhibitions but honestly I do prefer other contemporary art museums in LA.
Very fun! Went during a weekday and it was great! lots of cool exhibits and interesting art.
Fairly small museum. When I went two of the main exhibits were completely blocked off so I saw most of the art in less than an hour. Great collections but only for a quick visit or a specific artist you may be looking for.
Major disappointment. Half the exhibits were closed. Its Veterans Day. I served 28 years. But, only active duty military receive a discount. I support the arts. Wish the MOCA would be more civic minded.
It was such an amazing experience, the staff is super sweet and kind. Just remember to be respectful of people’s space and the gallery’s aren’t a place to chat so light light whispers are suggested. If u go during the week in the early Afternoon and not weekend it’s a lot less crowded.
Nixe. Interesting. Not very crowded. And its free every thursday. And you can make donations.
Great Art collection...must visit
Half the museum was a comprehensive retrospecitve of Kerry James Marshall and it was completely fascinating. Took the one-hour tour of the exhibit from an artist. Was unusually informative and helpful to get perspective and background on the artist and his work. Really enjoyable and opened my eyes to an artist I was not familiar with. The other side of the museum is the permanent collection. Excellent quality. they have a whole room of Rothkos! Is not too large and a perfect close by complement to the Broad for another occasion
We didnt go inside due to time restraints but very nice to walk around and see some art outside. Definitely would like to go back.
I am really into a modern art when I was in the area I stayed in and Im glad I went. Everything and everyone was really nice and the art is interesting. I ended up buying one and it was really nice at great price.
Its not a very large collection, but I was there to see the Rothkos. Ticket also works for same day admission to the Contemporary Art museum in Japantown, one mile away.
There were really contemporary arts. This time MOCA exhibits works of Gala Porras-Kim who was born Bogota, Colombia but lives and works in Los Angeles. The works varies widely from sculptural works to ephemeral works. Also other artistss works were there. Video arts were hard to understand but many patterns on cloth were pretty. The admission fee is free every Thursday at 5 to 8 pm. by courtesy of Wells Fargo.
Had no expectations going in and was pleasantly surprised. Its a small collection but there are some very unique and compelling pieces.
Only half of space open, but the cost is same. You can see 6 paintings of Rothoko together, but if you are not Rothoko-holic, it is not worthy to visit now.
Nice place to go! I recommend the free period on thursdays though
Modern art. Love it or leave it.
Weird contemporary art
Such a wonderful museum. Parking is tricky. MOCA offers parking. We parked in a lot down the street. The museum is wonderful...
Really enjoyable and opened my eyes to an artist I was not familiar with. The other side of the museum is the permanent collection. Excellent quality.
Love the staff and museum employees, they helped me from the Box Office, all the way to my motorcycle. Hats off to work
Excellent shows. Some great art. Free too.
MOCA is an amazing contemporary art Museum with unique paintings and sculptures MOCA is a must see in LA
Worth taking a visit to MOCA, I spent about 3 hours viewing their collection and enjoyed it greatly!Sadly, I was not ableto see the other part of the museum - which I guess was one mile away according to the attendant? This kind of bummed me out as I felt I paid for a ticket to only see half of what they offered. I didn’t have time to walk even more. If they could offer a shuttle to the other space that would be really great!
Blood orange lemonade and the sea salt vegan brownie tho. The Artists were beyond awesome, all interesting! It was a cool space with multiple rooms with various pieces of art. Must see for yourself
Cool art in a great location. Enjoyed a snack at Lemonade while sitting in the outdoor space above MOCA.
My opinion about it, has many works that are quite abstract and you have to have a lot of knowledge to value the works of the artists. It is likely that the average person does not like this kind of art. There are very interesting works but there are also others that are quite boring (just things arranged randomly in a room). The museum is small and the entrance costs USD $ 15 with the possibility of visiting another museum building, far from it. The staff unfriendly, but you cannot expect much from people who just pass by a door every time.
Beautiful art!! Helpful staff, and free admission!Places to eat nearby, and next to The Broad!
Meh! Im glad its free, pretty uninspired exhibits on my visit.
Always something interesting or w ierd. Played parking.
Wonderful exhibits. Not an overwhelmingly big museum, but a great sampling of contemporary art. Nevelson, Chamberlain, Flavin ... and more
As its free on Thurs from 17:00-18:00, its great to visit there to see American modern artworks. But compare to Tate Modern in London...... its not worth it to pay $15. Just get there on Thursday for free.
Interesting exhibition. I liked more the other building 1 mile away from this one though (same ticket gives access)
Great museum with an incredibly slow ticket window—especially considering the museum is free
They have wide range of clothing and bag choices. I receive great customer service in the stores here.
It is ok. The art was kind of odd at times. Not bad for the price. Plus the other half of the gallery was under construction. However they gave us tickets to come back. Update: full gallery is now open.
I vass therr to see zee tapestreez!
Incredible place with an interesting collection. When I visited, there was a red curtain room with a slideshow and music
Lots of fun being here and so much art to appreciate.
Cool museum, we went on the discount after 3 price which was great! Very thought provoking displays
This is a museum of modern art. I dont like modern art. But, some was cool. However, the thing we found cool was stuff that was unintentional so I dont give the artist points. Its a good museum overall, but we almost stepped on art because some of it is just SITTING on the floor.
The Museum is pretty cool. It is small and concise. It focuses on Black people and most of the art is of literal black people(not even brown). I didnt like how repeative the arts were. However Im the type of person who doesnt appreciate art at all. Kind of Ironic given that I just took AP Art History last year and passed the class.
Nice museum in downtown Los Angeles. You can get validated parking next door at the California plaza. Why not visit the Grove museum almost next door while youre in the area
Im not really a contemporary art museum fan but I was staying downtown and this was walkable. The collection is pretty impressive and all the big names youre looking for are here. They have a good temporary exhibit and a nice cafe with really good lemonade. Most impressively, on weekends they have middle schoolers act as docents and explain the art to you, that was my favorite part.
I am a big fan of various forms of modern/contemporary art ranging from abstract expressionism with Kandinsky to Surrealism with Dali to pop art with Warhol but the collection at MOCA is somewhat disappointing. There are several big name artists pieces however the rest of the pieces were just okay at best. The collection is also pretty small for the price you end up paying (compared to RISD museum or Portland Art Museum) but thats typical for most things in LA
Modern art is always a little weird, and the art was interesting in a good way. However, the museum was much smaller than I was expecting - only took me about an hour to browse the entire museum. I’m not sure it’s worth the admission price (and I paid student admission).
The art is very interesting and its a great place to bring a first date or kids to enjoy art
Essential permanent installations and interestingly rotating ones. A ticket here also gets you into Geffen museum. Do both!
Delicate collections. The tour guides are well-trained and welcoming. Free admission on Thursday night.
I love the interesting art at this museum, its very creative & thought-provoking. The museum is beautiful and has an amazing location in DTLAs Museum Row. A must visit!
Special exhibition was great!!! Worth to wait one hour. Regular exhibition was....well I prefer UCLA Hammer Museum.
Fine, small selection, well currated.
Free every first Thursday from 5pm-8pm. They have guided tours at 5.30 and 6.30, definitely worth taking a look!
Fantastic experience of this location. Amazing place!!
Innovative space. A wonderful addition to LAs art scene.
Very cool works of all variety here. Rotating exhibitions with excellent attention grabbing curation. It is a big museum and can be a little hard to navigate your first time, however the staff are very friendly and will guide you where you need to go.
Mind-blowing. Spent an afternoon here, marveling at the modern art pieces. The Rothko room is especially beautiful!
When you walk in here the art just jump right out of the wall. Bingo!
I love the ring watch I bought at the gift shop.
