You cannot miss this photogenic spot when in LA. This is a signature photo spot when you’re in town; therefore, it is always crowded. The light looks much smaller outside. It is also important to choose the time. I went at afternoon time and I think that’s the most crowded time. My friends went at later night time and it’s much better. It also depends on if you want the photos in the daylight or night time. Each time has its own pretty!
Ive seen this in movies and was like ehhhh its just a bunch of lights...but I still put it on my list of places to visit. I am so glad that I did! Its extremely beautiful and its relaxing. It was almost like hanging out under all white Christmas lights. Dont judge my example! Id definitely say add this to your PTV list!
Located a block away from Hollywood and highland, Id recommend street parking if you can find it or taking the train. This is perfect for groups or couples, if you dont have your own tripod you can rent one for $7. The have several rooms and I love that they have examples hung up so you know what your picture should look like, my favorite room is the upside down room it is a 5minute time limit in each room so get strategic. Make sure youre getting both the ceiling and the floor so your picture comes out perfect! If youre a local or visitor this is definitely a fun thing to do when visit Hollywood.
I absolutely loved this museum of art. We really enjoyed the Fiji exhibit, as well as the Julie Mehretu exhibit. Great place to take pictures at the front of the public lights. I love this museum, if I lived closer I would visit once a week. This place is so big you could spend days lost in it. Highly recommend checking out.
Every second Thursday of the month, Los Angeles County Museum of Art transforms into a big giant art festival. All the art galleries open their doors to the public, the food trucks line up to fill hungry bellies, and talented people display their art work on the sidewalks. You truly get the feel of Los Angeles by being there. The creativity infests the air and you cant help but to feel motivated and have butterflies while witness amazing art.
Love coming here and getting yours and attending their talks. I’ve also taken their collage art class and had a ton of fun, and materials were included.I recommend a membership if you want to go often (more than 4x a year) and get tours, since most of their tours start before 3pm. Otherwise if you just want to see the art then after 3 for LA residents is free. Also! If you have a Bank of America card, the first weekend is free.
Fantastic place where you can see a lot of post lights together on a very strict alignment art. Always when I’m passing by I stop to take pics especially at night with the lights on of course hahaha. Come on and check it out.
Being Southern California resident, we were able to enjoy this museum on a Tuesday. Its free on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Tickets are normally $25. Look to spend a whole day here looking at different artwork from paintings of Pablo Picasso, sculptures, architectural designs. Some exhibits allow photo taking. No videos. Plenty food choices, cafes to sit and enjoy the day. Would totally come back again.
Hey if you want to get inspired by artists from all over the world this is the place, also they offer different exhibitions to please the visitors
Beautiful place hidden in the la Canada residential area. Its nice to go for a walk, to lay on the grass or even enjoy the beautiful scenery. I wish they would let you picnic but unfortunately you are not allowed to as it attracts animals. They have concerts in the summer if you are a member you can get tickets to these concerts.
Went to see the lights was told we had to wear a mask while taking pictures which was fine. Wanted to use my tripod and was told it was not allowed and to go to the sidewalk meanwhile everyone on the exhibit had their masks off but my tripod was the problem.
This is one of the best places on earth, no joke. It holds it own against the Art Institute of Chicago and by no means is completely outclassed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I used to live nearby; I miss their changing exhibits and amazing regular collection.
Everyone knows this place is fun, but it especially fun for the over 21 at night. Most people lined up immediately to go to the planetarium, but we headed off to check out the museum. We practically had the aquarium to ourselves. Then we visited the main floor and checked out the new earthquake exhibit. They like to shake things up here. They had several bars serving specialty cocktails throughout the place. Not much food variety though. For $12, this was well worth it!
Great museum with a diverse collection of art. Usually one of those museums that has an active pulse on its field of study, and also acts as a cultural center with a variety of events and talks to bring the community together to focus on hot topics of the day.
Hey if you want to get inspired by artists from all over the world this is the place, also they offer different exhibitions to please the visitors
Wonderful museum. Of course the touristy lamps always get attention. I recommend you also go up to the viewing deck, which gives some awesome views of the city. Also the salsa events in the summer are a nice cultural experience
The courtyard was disc-jockeyed, and I discovered my new favorite modern artist. She is so interesting! Julie Mehretu. There are distorted underlying violent images in her work that is covered by color play and calligraphic strokes, showing how we are forced to incorporate the horror of the world into our daily lives. I am researching her now.
Very well put together museum. Its a whole day visit if you like various types of art. If its just something to do, then come have brunch and enjoy a couple of hours. The LACMA lights are an attraction at night.Lots of parking around the neighborhood. Clean facilities, restaurants and restrooms.Dont forget to visit the La Brea tar pits museum right next door. If you come with a child, the child gets a junior membership and an adult admission for free.
Love this museum. You could easily spend at least half a day going through all of the exhibits. the buildings are huge and the art and installations they have are a perfect blend of unique and classic. Clean facilities, buildings, and grounds. Everyone who worked there was helpful if need be. Parking is easy right across the street. Great location to restaurants nearby to grab a bite before, during, or after.
This was awesome. Too bad that some of John Singers Sargent paintings were unavailable to see becasue of museum repairs. But overall, it was fun I had a blast!
It’s always nice to visit there. Many new exhibits and beautiful scenery. Unfortunately the main building was closed.
Great exhibits! The staff is vigilant, which I appreciate, but they also seem to have frayed nerves. The cost of admission was high so Id suggest you give yourself plenty of time.
Love the setup of this place. Numerous different buildings to go through. Outside areas are nice to walk around and talk. Exhibits change so you can visit often. There are places to eat and a cafe. People that work there are super helpful. California EBT card holders get in for free. I would definitely visit again!! Suggest that everyone go check it out, at least once.
The museum is excellent. We had only two hours to explore. The Picasso paintings are wonderful. The Japanese building was closed. The European arts are excellent. The South America collections are good. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Its LACMA. Go. No matter what day you go, youll discover interesting and incredible art. I went with my Mom on a Monday and although LACMA is going through some major changes and construction, we found some incredible exhibits. My favorites were Metropolis II and An Experiment in Light. Just go.
Classic. Must-visit place both for educational and photography purposes usually around 20$ if you’re non-resident, visiting Los angles and etc. every second Tuesday of each month it’s free. From Ancient Greece to Modern Anime Style Paintings, you will find it all in LACMA. The place is filled with great paintings and art pieces, gives you a unique vibe/energy throughout the visit. Stop reading this and go there ASAP
What can I say that hasnt already been said about this iconic landmark. We came during the free for all weekend and had a great time. The tar pits were free as well and we gained quite a bit of knowledge during the day of our visit. A bit overcrowded but I imagine there were other tourists and locals all converging for the free for all weekend. Staff were polite and knowledgeable about the exhibits and the buildings themselves so people like myself wouldnt get lost or go the wrong way.
Its okay, might have been better if half the place wasnt closed. Theres a giant slot car statue/installation thing but it only runs 3 days a week. I asked why and the guard said they only have so many staffers. Great excuse, but there are more guards for art then actual patrons in most rooms. Turn that thing on.
Must visit for all modern art & Asian art lovers. Helpful LACMA staff is throughout the museum to answer all questions. Used my student discount. Very peaceful and quiet setting with other museums nearby. There is a variety of food, snacks, vending machines, and beverages there. You get a discount for coffee on your first visit! Parking is pricey but easy and convenient.
This is a beautiful place for a trip to picnic and walk the grounds. I perfect for photography.
We were driving back from a weekend in Las Vegas. I have seen photos of this place, and my daughter has been anxious to go.I decided to take an hour detour and we had so much fun! You would think it would be overwhelming considering the amount of people trying to capture the perfect picture, but it was actually pleasant.People seemed to follow an unspoken etiquette and we got so many fun shots!
Excellent place for kids and adults. Kids love that some exhibits can be touched. Metropolis is my kids favorite because they can visualize how the Hot Wheel sized cars going around the tracks like Lego City in Grand scale. Unbelievably exiting if you can stand next to the exhibit and feel the energy of museum goers. Great restaurants. Nice place to wine and dine with family and friends. Well take my family for another trip to LACAMA.
One of my very favorite things to do in LA in the summertime (added bonus: its free)! Pack yourself a picnic (or a bottle of wine, at the very least) and a blanket and park it for some world class live jazz and people watching. The shows start at 6 but people seem to get where really early to grab a good spot--I personally dont mind being a little ways away from the amps so I can chat away with my friends, but you do you. Drinks (and snacks, I think!) are also available for purchase onsite, but theres a Whole Foods about half a mile away and I prefer to bring my own.The parking struggle is real at LACMA, so be sure to read the signs if you choose to park on the street. I gave up and parked in the lot for $15 last time, which I figured was okay since the event itself is free. Another little perk to parking in the lot is a you get to mosey by the tar pits and a colorful art installation. We were with kiddos who got a kick out of both! Speaking of kids, this event is 100% family-friendly. Put this on your summer bucket list!
Mi fiance finally brought me to see the brea tar pits and LACMA. Museum is really nice, lots to see and lots of walking. Really enjoyed the tar pits better and of course the famous lamps. We came during the day even though the best time is at night again because of the lamps but it was such a good day.
You need to devote couple of days or be very selective what you want to see, explore...
The Charles White Exhibit and docent led tour was great but very little else appealed. Part of the museum was closed. For the cost of a visit, another museum might be a better choice. The outdoor bar was relaxing however.
Beautiful exhibits all around. We were able to view the building on the West but ran out of time for the building on the East. Definitely not for younger children or people that cant keep their hands to themselves. This is real people, please dont touch.. except the outdoor piece.
Really fun experience. Some of the buildings were closed though since they were preparing to start work on the new building which should last for the next few years. But I enjoyed the experience, especially the Metropolis II piece in the Broad Contemporary Art Museum at LACMA (not to be confused with the Broad Museum downtown). On Friday afternoons (when I happened to go), people have picnics with their friends and family on the lawn inside the museum grounds and bands perform on a stage close to them. Really fun and festive atmosphere.
Worth checking out. I really enjoy the Japanese section, but not sure when will they open up.
Los to watch, read, and wonder at. I always really enjoy museums. This one isnt free, but if youre a student you get a bit off. Right now they have a lot of exhibits closed though so you wont get the full experience. I dont like modern art, especially painted stuff, but this one kind of changed my perspective on the genre because a lot of the modern art they had was very interactive and 3D. Be sure to read the descriptions always because most times the art can be meaningless until you understand what the artist was trying to portray.
Ive been going here since I was very young and every time is a joy! Come and get inspired! Dont forget to check out the Urban Lights!
This was a wonderful experience at this art museum. Theres just not enough time in one day to look at it all. I spent a lot of time in the Japanese art section. Its a joy to see how creative people are and what art means to them to create such beautiful works with meaning and emotion.
We loved it! The gem and mineral hall is a must. The kids loved it. Didn’t get pics because the kiddos we all over the place. They had fun!Just wish it was more affordable for larger families. A sliding scale would be sweet!
Worth the visit. The outsides are nice for walking. There is Access for wheelchairs. You can find park on the streets or there is a parking right on the museum the flat rate was $16 per day. There are food stores and restrooms available for visitors.
Free for military personnel, and every 2nd Tuesday of the month. Really enjoyed the whole museum. I took 4 hours and still have not finished the entire museum. Will probably take 4.5h to finish everything. The la Brea tar pits is beside too so you will have something to see even if you get bored or finish fast.
This is one of my favorite spots in LA for photos. Something about the Urban Lights always draws me to it. They’re just absolutely beautiful. It’s free to view them but the museum itself is only free on certain days and time. I’ve never actually taken the time to go inside the museum, to be honest though. I’ve only come for the lights. If you’re here to do the same thing, my advice would be to come at 7pm when the parking is half price and the lights are about to turn on within the hour. It’s the perfect lighting too. Before they turn on is when your crowd is the lowest but once they turn on, you have about 5-10 minutes before the place gets swarmed with people trying to do the same thing as you. So time your visit right and snap fast to get a photo with minimal people in the background, otherwise you might have to play a strategic game of blocking people with your body and poses, as well as angling the lights just right.
Popular tourist attraction. The Urban Lights exhibit is free, the museum itself is not (but you can get free admission when LA has its museum day). If youre going to the Urban Lights, be prepared. It can be very crowded or people may be filming. Theres parking right across from the exhibit and theres a parking structure. Not so shockingly, a lot of people go to take pictures so it can be challenging to get a perfect picture with nobody in the background. The good thing is the exhibit is so picturesque that you can get a nice photo with just your phone.
Amazing views long time ago.
I love this museum... I can spend hours hear!!! Come back the next day... and find a 100 new things I didnt see the day before!!!!! thank you
Chagall: Fantasies for the Stage is an extraordinary exhibit - stunningly beautiful pieces - sketches, paintings, photographs, films, and most importantly, original costumes from four theatrical works (ballet & opera) staged in 40s after Chagall emigrated from Russia with the assistance of the Museum of Modern Art in New York - perfectly exhibited in a manner that remind the visitor that the pieces were designed to move and help tell the story of each ballet/opera, all immeasurably elevated by Chagalls one of a kind artistry. The exhibit is at LACMA through early January and shouldnt be missed!
Fantastic place where you can see a lot of post lights together on a very strict alignment art. Always when I’m passing by I stop to take pics especially at night with the lights on of course hahaha. Come on and check it out.
We came to see the rain room art display, but the exhibit has been removed. I hope that it returns one if this day. Overall the current Asian theme exhibits are exceptional in terms of new contemporary arts.
Amazing place... highly suggested to go early. The La Brea tar pits are close by and totally worth checking out. A great all day experience.
Although the museum was under renovation, we enjoyed what we could visit. It is a great day out food prices high, the food trucks park on Wiltshire offered options at better prices. In a few years there will be an amazing new building showcasing the collection. I’m looking forward to the new facilities.
Visiting L.A., I saw this great collection of 20th century masters of modern art. Spent 6 hours! Membership for locals recommended, didnt have time to visit the ancient and cultural art exhibit. Some very impressive monumental works, including Richard Serras Ribbon. Dont miss the current attractions: Bauhaus (not the dirge band, the art school and collective who met a tragic end in Germany, but inspired thousands, including Germans!), and Frank Stella, whose colored and textured sculptural paintings have been in storage for twenty years, but Top Men will have to return to their crates. Avail yourself! Laughter permitted.
Just a great spot for lunch our evening snack you can walk through and imagine youre the light up
We visited the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, or LACMA, to check out the Urban Light Installation which is becoming a destination on its own. We had a hard time finding a place to park, which is a struggle in Los Angeles. We also checked out the paintings of the local artists, but did not take photos out of respect for their work. This is a must visit if you love art in general. Too bad it was raining, because we were told that this area looked good at night as well.
Jazz on the grass every Friday in the summer. Family friendly and/or date night fun!
Me and my friend visted LACMA in Jan of 2019, it is scheduled to o closed for renovation in 2020
This hotel is beautiful and amazing and the waitress was simply the best. She was so sweet and gave amazing recommendations, and made sure to take the best care of us during our meals and stay at the beach. Thank you so much for making our experience so memorable at this hotel! We really enjoyed our vacation so much! Highly recommended and kudos! Thank you.
Interesting Exibits For All To Appreciate The Human Talent,Creation And Expression.
Everything was on a white background, it all looked the same. It was very cold and boring,I couldnt wait to get out of there. Thats not to say the pieces or art wasnt great, but how everything was presented made everything uninteresting. I feel bad for the artists whose pieces have to endure being placed in such drab conditions. This was the worst art museum I have visited, and Ive visited dozens....
Such a beautiful place.Don’t need to be any type of artist to enjoy and love this place .Perfect for adults kids and families.
Very informative, lots of different subjects. Took all day to see one level in the building. This musuem needs to take 2 days just to absorb everything they have.
World class art gallery. You can spend a whole day here exploring the exhibits and all the different buildings. The place is packed with amazing work. I went on a Saturday and it was busy, but not near as insanely busy like other world class galleries like the Louvre in Paris.
Beautiful grounds!- you leave refreshed and feeling peaceful after an evening walk. You must experience it for yourself!
LACMA was super cute. No matter if it was daytime or nighttime the photos came out adorable and instagramable. Definitely a place to visit it does get super crowded during night time so I recommend going during daytime.
Great place full of activities and cool stuff to do. Be sure to check out the summer concert series in the park perfect for bringing the family.
Great spot for pictures. Lots of people tho...
Great place to take pictures at the front of the public lights. However it’s very crowded. Went during evening. Can park car in front of the lights quickly and enjoy the view otherwise you have to do paid parking. Your pictures will still have people in the background.
An very diverse collection of amazing art and historical artifacts. The collection of Picasso paintings impressed me. When we went they had a exhibition on 3D media. I have no idea how long this will last, but it was very interesting. I was amazed to learn how long images have been presented in three dimensions.
Although this place is only recognized because of the lamp lights in front of the museum, i recommend coming and and actually enjoying the art. Walking around all exhibits is very calming, you get to appreciate art on a different level. Walking around the tar pits is really a treat as well, you get to find out so many interesting facts and see artists youve made your google background irl!!
A wonderful museum, but beware of all the construction happening... lots of exhibits are off limits
If you love art - this is a must see when visiting Los AngelesSo much art in this beautiful Museum, its unequaled by far. The biggest museum in the Western United States, a tour worth taking. We spend the whole afternoon there - simply breathtakingly amazing in every way - so much art, next time we will dedicate a whole day. Many phenomenal spots for photo opportunities as well - masterpiece after a masterpiece #losangeles #LACMA must see
I love art and this is a great museum! The exhibits change a lot so I try to go a few times a year. The staff are friendly and helpful if you have questions. I definitely recommend LACMA!
I love this museum, if I lived closer I would visit once a week. Not only for the great art in display but for all amenities it offers, creating a fun filled day/ evening. Dont miss this gem if youre in the neighborhood. If youre local, membership is a must!!
I do recommend. One of the must visit museums in the area.Always good to go and hour or two before the exhibitions close so you don’t have to wait for the famous Urban Lights to turn on.
Always wonderful art to view at LACMA but on this Friday it also had live jazz playing in the court yard at 6pm. There are a couple of options for food in the courtyard while listening to the music. I had an amazing pizza with figs and arugula. So good!
LACMA is worth a stop just to stroll the grounds and catch some cool views and shots of the architecture and free sculptures. Definitely park in the lot under the museum as the rates are good and street parking is hard to find. I would highly recommend buying tickets to see the art collections, which are spread over multiple buildings on the campus. Also, make sure to walk next door to the La Brea tar pits- such a cool historical part of LA.
First time here and so far it is great. They have a children’s center where kids can paint for free. Here is the even better part, you can sign up each child to get free membership until they are 17, and each child can bring any adult for free! (Except Wed). I encourage everyone to come out here for a good art culture experience.
Beautiful and picture worthy spot! It is placed right outside of the museum so you don’t have to pay to get to it! Not as wide as it seems in the photos though but still picture worthy. The natural light angles are perfect. A must see if you like photography or selfies!
LACMA is a growing expanding place. They offer music, movies, lectures, art classes, all in addition to many fascinating art exhibits. The new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be opening late 2020 and will add another dimension to the Southern California community.
This is a great museum! It covers all eras of art from ancient through to modern, one of the only museums on earth to do that. The collection is powerful, especially considering this museum started collecting long after museums in other parts of the country. The special exhibits are numerous and always interesting. I became a member 20+ years ago and will be a member for life. Their plans for the future are incredible. The museum is slowly closing galleries now and the older buildings will be demolished. The new museum will open after several years of construction. The plans look amazing and Los Angeles will have another architectural gem, full of world - class art.
Such a great museum to visit! It’s a popular one to visit in Los Angeles! I’ve been several times and plan to go back many more times!
What a wonderful array of art to pass through. They have such well rounded collections that even a regular person like myself gets transported into the different eras and lost in the beauty. A wonderful investment of time and well priced.
My main goal today was to see ”David Hockney: 82 Portraits And 1 Still-Life” before it closed, but I also ended up having a portrait taken at the exhibit, seeing the ”Decoding Mimbres Painting Ancient Ceramics Of The American Southwest” exhibit, going on a docent tour of ”The Chiaroscuro Woodcut In Renaissance Italy” exhibit and seeing part of the ”To Rome And Back: Individualism And Authority In Art, 1500-1800” exhibit.
This was a nice little place to visit in the evening. It does get very busy but is a must see for anyone in LA. With the arrangement of the tall standing lights, it makes for some special photo opportunities and make sure you walk through the rows, it just feels right.
There is so much of the Los Angeles County Museum that I have not seen. What I have viewed has been terrific. We really need to budget at least one whole day for LACMA, if we want to truly appreciate all this museum has to offer. Some day, we will. For now, though, I highly recommend a trip to LACMA for everyone. At the very least, take a look see at the Urban Light exhibit. It is truly amazing!
Nice ART Museum has many famous painting. but recently some of them are not exhibit because construction.
Nice employees and the artsy creative works are always very cool to see!
Delicious white stone dewed dog bowl. Not much going on for such a large museum - very small members only exhibition.
Many exhibits closed during renovation, so the value of the ticket was a bit diminished for us. Nice setting with many different opportunities to explore art styles. Not a fan of the modern exhibits and installations for the most part, but thats a personal preference. Most of the historical exhibits were under renovation, so we werent able to visit those buildings. Beautiful grounds though and impressive structures.
Not a bad place to pass your time. Expensive parking but enjoyable experience.
Spent some time on the grounds. Really nice installations on a sunny day in Los Angeles. Could it get any better?
Honestly didn’t enter any exhibit but loved hanging around the museum gardens & the unique lightsSeems like a nice place to go to to enjoy your daytime during the weekends as it can be filled with food trucks & small outdoor markets
Huge campus with many different buildings. Incredible variety of art. Well worth the price. Plan an entire morning/afternoon here. Spent 3-4 hours and didnt finish all of buildings.
I’m IN LOVE with the LACMA. It’s by far my favorite museum in LA! The Chagall exhibit was such a beautiful set up and I absolutely love that they have a wine bar and Rays lounge. The foods not bad!
This is a perfect family day destination. Great art, great food and great activities around every corner. There is so much to explore and see as well as hear. We listened to a group talk about the Picasso exhibit and learned so much! My husband and I sat in the courtyard and drank a glass of wine that helped wash down a delicious chocolate chunk cookie and a slice of apple pie while the girls had sodas and sugar cookies. It was a delightfully fun day!
