A lot of cool cars. They change them out every so often. The museum itself isn’t too big and you might go through it quickly if you’re not stopping at every car. The vault tour is interesting and if you’re into the history of cars, they have great tour guides. I was hoping to see the cars that were a little more modern but we spent the majority of a 1.5 hr tour looking at cars that were from the 50s and older. A lot of interesting cars in the vault though. Also no pictures in the vault
Had a great time at this museum, it is very clean, peaceful and informative. There are 3 floors, and you start from the third and make yourself to the first one. I highly recommend it to people who enjoy history, adventure, and vehicles .
This is truly a great museum, you start on the 3rd floor and work your way down. You see a representation of every generation of car, from Karl Benzs motor trike to Herby. And not just production cars, several one of one cars made and concept cars from the past, including the concept car for the Tesla model S. The movie cars are amazing as well, I will become a member shortly!
If you love cars, the Petersen Automotive Museum can’t be missed. Inside this stunning structure is an extensive collection of cars, some of which date as far back as 1886. There are modern cars and motorcycles, too. Some exhibits are permanent, while others are temporary. For an extra fee, you can take a tour of the private vault, where you’ll see rare collectibles.

THE best car museum you will ever go to! My beautiful wife surprised me with a private tour of The Vault and it was amazing. We saw one of a kind cars from all over the spectrum. This is the car museum that others aspire to be.
This was my first time going to LA walk and I gotta say its pretty cool. They dont have anything like this where Im from(DMV area) so this was all new to me. I like how they have artists actually creating the paintings while youre walking by. They have food and and a lot of artistic visuals that artist have created throughout. Id recommend anyone to go visit for the experience. Also check out the last book store.
If you like cars, or movies, youll love this place. Great family atmosphere. If your a car guy you will go crazy there. Parking was easy, not an overwhelming amount of people when I was there. Great experience
This place is awesome. Did not expect to see so many cars from my youth. I absolutely love the layout of the museum and also, how it tells a story about the role cars have played in American history. Definitely a must do for locals and travelers.
I really liked this place ! Im not too much into cars ! My BF is ! He absolutely loved this place ! I would recommend buying tickets to The Vault. They have a 90 min tour of cool cars. Our tour for the vault was perfect. We spent about 30 minutes to explore 1 of the floors. The tour was towards the end of the day at 3:30 so by the time we finished the tour we were able to explore the other 2 floors with almost no other people around !

Just went back after the remodel and wow! A lot of new exhibits, beautiful cars and bikes that I hadnt seen before and as always the historical notes are a great treat.
We absolutely loved our experience at the Petersen Museum! Fantastic display of good quality vehicles in the museum, there is something there for everyone. We also did The Vault Tour which was well the money. In the vault there is an even bigger collection of cars than on display in the museum. Our guide for the tour was awesome and was happy to give answers about any cars people were interested in. I look forward to someday coming back and seeing the new cars on display.
Love the details of this place. It’s a full on automotive museum, impressive range of cars from classics to modern. Only ones lacking are the luxury sports cars though ;)The automotive evolution was explained very well in every section. You can easily spend up to 2hours here, if you appreciate cars.Highly recommended, easy to appreciate even if you’re not a car person
If you love cars and you want to keep learning reserve at least 3 hours of your time but you may want to spend more in this 3 story exhibition. If you have kids theres an area for them where you can play with LEGOs and draw. They rotate their exhibition cars because it is a large one!
Great selection of very cool cars ! You may even recognize a few from the movies. Risky Business, Batman, Ironman etc. just to name a few. Pay a little more and enter the Vault. They have even more incredible cars !
One of my favorite museums in LA. This is the place to be for car enthusiasts in the area. I was lucky enough to go to the vault in the basement and they have so many classic cars, even the Mexican Pope Mobile is here too! The entrance fee is not at all expensive, and definitely get a tour guide if youre going with a big group! The people here are very professional and love these cars and respect their legacy tremendously.
Loved this place!! Once a year they do a car show with cars from different movies. You can see from the pictures I took there’s cars from Jurassic Park Batman back to the future and even some video games like halo. Can’t get inside the cars and most of the windows are down sleep at all Massive stuff but it was such a cool place to visit and see all these famous car is in vehicles from movies and video games.
I took my girl here for her birthday and we both had a good time. I rented the $5 tripod and it was a great investment because we were able to take all of our shots together. There is no time limit so you can be there as long as youd like. We didnt feel rushed because we went on a day where it was raining so we were there for a little over an hour.
This museum is very nice. The cars that they have on the top floor are elegant and pictures do not do justice. It is moderately priced for the cars you view. It offers everything from old classics to futuristic concepts to movie prop cars and much more. If you are even slightly interested in cars you will like the vast variety held within this building!
Absolutely loved my visit here to see the Tesla Cybertruck! Thank you Petersen Museum!
Amazing selection of cars - mostly foreign niche cars, like specialized Porches and Nissans. But as an EV owner and long-time EV enthusiast, I came here specifically to see their EV1 and the electric car exhibit. I was very surprised to see a few other early electric cars as well, and the exhibit was very informative and well done. Mind boggling to see a GM logo on an electric! Takes about two to three hours to see it all. Will definitely be back as the exhibits rotate.
What a pleasant surprise! I’m not even a huge car fan, and loved this museum. It’s also the favorite place of my 5 year old nephew who DOES love cars. History, Hollywood, Design and sheer beauty combine to make this a unique experience.. with workshops and hands on activities for children and families, it was a wonderful half-day of fun! I really enjoyed the history of cars exhibit in particular. PS: there are motorcycles too!
I brought my husband and son here thinking theyd enjoy it. In the end we all loved it. Feel free to stop by the restaurant there as well. Nice menu, delicious food, so-so service but its nice to have that. They also do kids activities on the weekend
This museum has Great collections. So many beautiful cars and motorcycles made in different times. Huge space, my company just had Holiday party there. It was really fun with delicious food.
A museum experience unlike any other. A truly astounding collection of cars from antique to modern, high-performance machines to pop culture icons and everything between. The layout of the museum is really well thought out, like a showroom on each floor. A great time for car fanatics and casual visitors alike.
I always wanted to visit Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles and finally made it here. I had about 3 hours to see it and it should be more than enough. I honestly expected the museum to be bigger - if you have been to Chicago or LA Auto show those are 3 times larger and have a lot more cars to see every year. However, the value of Petersen Automotive Museum is in its movie cars and crazy concepts. Even non-car people would appreciate the museum as we all watch movies and know celebrities. There are many cool cars on 3 floors but I definitely recommend to start with the Vault Tour. You can book it online in advance or try your luck onsite. The vault has some of the most unique and most valuable vehicles of all times. From movie cars, to crazy unique concepts, to celebrity haulers (Elvis Presely, Steve McQueen, Jack Nicholson) - all of them are here. Too bad you cant take photos and 45 mins arent nearly enough to check out all of the cars on a guided tour. But the tour guides are fantastic! The main floors have some cars from movies like Star Wars, Mad Max, Fast and Furious, Blade Runner, Batman, I Robot... Lots to see. And you can take photos! You can also find some prototypes of the US makers from 80s, 90s, and modern times. There is a small exhibit by Ganassi racing, too, that includes the Indy500 car driven by Scott Dixon.Lastly, even the museum building itself is an architectural masterpiece and dont forget to check out some artifacts in the parking garage!Pricing: it doesn’t look expensive at first but it gets expensive. $16 general admission, $28 vault tour, $17 parking... That’s $61 for a visit. If it was in the $40 range it would be great value but as of now I’m not sure. But I do really love cars.
Huge variety of important and interesting automotive artifacts and automobiles. With a gallery spanning more than 3 stories and cars from from all walks of life its not easy to breeze through here. Take some time and read about the history of these cars and car culture and you wont be disappointed. There are interactive exhibits for children to entertain and captivate all members of the family. Even if you arent a gearhead this museum is still an interesting stop.
Fantastic facility and experience. Easy on-site parking, and free parking in surrounding hood to the south and east. Quick and efficient ticketing. Porsche exhibit, during our visit, which was remarkable!!!! Excellent information posted with each vehicle- very informative. Free cellphone charging stations on every floor was a really nice touch. The interactive childrens room on the second floor provided a fun break - even for Big Kids . We spent three hours on three floors and decided to save the Vault tour for our next visit, as were definitely coming back! Did I mention the facility itself is a treat? Pristine clean, insanely well maintained, effective acoustics (important as its an industrial vibe with hard floors and high ceilings). We leaned a lot and loved our visit.Nice restaurant, though a little pricey. Would be nice to see a grill added for a quick sandwich. We took a break midway through and walked two block east to the Food Trucks south of MOMA - if you take your food across the street there are beer kiosks and tables.
This place was amazing. The museum has a mixture of cars from the past and present, including cars that were used in movies such as cars driven by Steve McQueen and a futuristic car that was driven by Tom Cruise in the movie Minority Report. Insider tip: Be sure to allow enough time if you would like to tour the vaults because the vault tours are scheduled and no self-guided vault tours are allowed. Also, you’re not allowed to take photos in the vault, but you can take photos in the main galleries.
The Peterson Museum reopened on Friday, and are exhibiting an amazing assortment of vehicles from Sci-Fi movies and TV. They will also have the Cybertruck there until June 26th.
My 11 year old son and husband had a blast here. My 8 year old daughter, not so much. It really was a cool place with movie vehicles. There was also a video game spot that you could race a car. I wish we brought our daughter to the art museum across the street because she never watched most of the movies that these vehicles were in. Very well laid out, and super clean.
The Peterson Automotive Museum has an awesome collection that rotates every 6 weeks, giving a great experience that is different every time. The staff is well informed and the tours are wonderful. The 2015 renovation makes the experience wonderful, with the idea of starting at the top of the museum and working your way down. Only descending stairs, not climbing! I enjoy this museum every time I go as there is always something different!
Always an excellent stop while in the LA area. Vehicles are rotated fairly regularly so theres always something new to see. Three stories of beautiful history and adrenaline-inducing go fast rides. Great movie vehicles and historic vehicles in there as well. Super rare one off specialties as well. This is a gearhead paradise, as well as a place to see some recent cutting edge technology showcased. Will return again.Consider the special tour with the unique visual technology experience. Very cool option.
Nice place to come with the family to see all the great cars they have on display. A favourite was definitely seeing the actual DeLorean from Back to the future in there. I loved the Tron bike as well. The bathrooms are nice and clean. Security will hold on to your bags and prams/strollers that you have too. Has a gift shop to have a little look around as well.
One of the best spots in LA for families. My kids and I enjoyed our day exploring this magnificent place. It has plenty of movies cars. Almost all the vehicles you have seen in any movie.Your family will enjoy the safe and friendly atmosphere of this place. So easy to explore and walk around.Duration: 90-120 minutes.
Why cant I give this a 10 star review...? :-) Ive been several times to the Petersen now, and am never disappointed with their permanent collection and revolving displays. This is an amazing place to spend good time as a car nut. Highly recommend the Vault tour in addition the the normal museum pass. (Photos from my recent visit to the Porsche Effect display)
I have been an old car enthusiast for 30 plus years. I have been to all the big shows and museums and have restored old cars and motorcycles. This place just blew me away. Thought I had pretty much seen it all before going here and was happily proven very very wrong. Its a must see for any car guy or girl.
They have a good rotating collection of cars and motorcycles but you really have to do the vault tour to get the most out of the museum. Well worth the money with tour guides providing insights into one of a kind automobiles. The Restaurant has very good food and a good selection of souvenirs in the gift shop. No photos allowed in the vault.
An amazing place to take the family! I highly recommend this beautiful museum to anyone in the area. The food is spectacular and the guided tours are so fun.
My family and I had a lot of fun and enjoyed looking at some amazing vehicles.
If youre a car obsessive then you must come here and you must do the vault tour. Unfortunately I didnt do it but Im told it houses the much more epic cars and a lot of them in fact. Theres an eclectic range of cars from movies to concepts to racing legends. Theres even a fun simulator you can try out and set a fast enough lap time to make it on the leaderboard. (Try and beat my time )
Definitely recommended for car lovers! Varying ticket prices dependent on age and membership status, but as of 7/27 its $16 for adults. Three levels of beautiful, immaculate automobiles ranging from movie props to custom creations for royalty keep your mouth agape and your eyes wide open. Also, whoever was tasked with the lighting did an incredible job--the ambience is fantastic.
Was here today and saw the sci fi movie cars exhibit, it was awesome! Very cool museum, friendly staff...wish I had paid extra for access to the vault. This place is a must see for car folks.
For years now my girlfriend and I have been visiting the DTLA Art Walk every second Thursday of the month. Its awesome, its free and its a great way to spend some time away from technology and our phones and spend some time looking at art!
Great way to spend on a rainy day or if you are a fan of cars!
I love this auto museum which is the best in the west coast. There are three floors showing dozens of vehicles. Most of them are changing year by year, so make sure you check their website and see what is showing. The parking is $16 now, and each ticket is 16. You can stand very close to many dream cars, take photos. Definitely will come back soon!
This place was AMAZING!!!!! If you like cars them you will ABSOLUTELY LOVE this place. There are so many different cars you will be overjoyed. Starting on the 3rd floor and working your way down you will see what started the auto revolution. Classic cars, movie cars, sports cars, this place has it all. They also have a vault in the basement with MORE cars.
This museum is very interesting. There is a lot of cars to see. There are also cars from films like Batmobile or catmobile from the TV series batman
The Star Wars Nightlife event was great. The drink selection wasnt that good but they have several stations to help with the lines. Lots of lights and music with employees in costumes helped add energy to this event. I would pay extra to have a buffet area as a better option to the cafeteria food. Even having a special band or drink tickets to give to roving bartenders would add more vibe to this event. Special event parking in the garage is $20. A good event.
Took the whole Family here and the kids had a lot of fun looking at the different types of cars. Also, the second floor has an area where kids can draw and learn about how the car engine, brakes, wheels works. Totally worth your money.
Nice museum. The best cars though are in the vault garage shown by tour only and no photos allowed. Worth taking the tour. Amazing collection
Great way to spend the day looking at cool and exciting cars from the past, as well as cars from movies, and even some motorcycles. You cant go wrong. I spent the day here on Fathers day and it didnt disappoint. I will definitely head back when Im in town.
Great selection of cars. Just wished that the expensive tour I paid for couldve been more interactive rather than simply taking a walk around, take photos then leave. The vault was great to visually observe and fawn over extremely rare cars, all in excellent condition.
I just watched a Discovery Channel program called “Back to The DeLorean: Time Machine Rescue” where a team of mechanics restore the original DeLorean car used in the Back to the Future movies. They did a great job and I hope to see it in person one day at the Petersen Auto Museum!
If youre interested in cars this is a MUST STOP. They have hundreds of amazing vehicles on floor displays and even more in the special vault tour. Honestly, you wont see this many hot rides anywhere else for the price they charge. If you want to see the sights in LA, this is one you shouldnt miss.
Love cars? This is the place to go! Tons of history, information and interactive displays. Concept cars to Hollywood cars. This is the first time I have been back since they redesigned the museum. Some hands on & educational things for the kids as well!
Awesome collection of cars, definitely worth a visit. The museum has sections of historic cars, concept cars and private collections on display. Definitely worth a visit
Great selection of cars. They printed history of most of the cars was thorough. $16 for general admission and an additional $25 for the Vault Tour. Architecture of the building is outstanding as well
Amazing Amazing place, it’s for car lovers and non car lovers. The museum is very well put together and organized. The staff go above and beyond at helping folk and a delight to talk too. The vault tour is a must, the cars and stories you see and listen to breath taking.
This is THE car museum to visit. Its one of, if not, THE best car museums in the country. They have plenty of historically important cars and race cars to keep any car guy entertained for an afternoon. Even if you dont like cars they have a constantly rotating group of car they show. When we visited they were showing movie cars which is perfect considering we were in LA. They host car shows on the top floor of the parking garage on the last Sunday of every month that is worth checking out if youre in town for it. If you werent already floored with their curation on the main floor they even offer a tour of The Vault which is basically where they store all of the cars they arent currently displaying. If youre a car guy this is almost a once in a lifetime event. Plenty of rare and interesting vehicles that would excite anyone. Only downside to the The Vault tour is that you (understandably) cant take photos.
One of my favorite museums of all times! Theres always something cool to see & be inspired by. Changing exhibits & educating the public. Can I take something for a test drive next time? ;)
Great experience! A great tourist location for the car enthusiasts or if you simply appreciate cars this is your one go to stop. Im an Los Angeles local and I wanted to see more of entertainment side of LA because this museum is the right place to find rare vehicle gems from your favorite movies and video games. Why not take a selfie with the Iron Man suit from movies 2 & 3, or a squared portrait with the infamous Bumblebee from the Transformers movies. Your family, friends, and significant loved one will enjoy seeing all the attractions with a touch of history in the upper multilevels. You see all types of vintage motor vehicles to sweaty formula 1 cars.Highly recommend it without any hesitations, and I will come again!
We went to visit on 9/26/2020 in the afternoon because was stated online that they were open just to be told by the security guard that seemed to hate his job that they were closed. Wasted gas and effort, maybe next time be more professional and update your info online!
Best time to be there is at night! Youll see a huge bright red building at the corner of Wilshire and Fairfax. You wont see how beautiful this red building looks at night of you dont go there in the late afternoon.
Awesome vehicles to look at but should not touch. Their history is included with each model.
Amazing Place for a Car Enthusiast Like My Self...
This place is excellent. As an automotive professional and enthusiast I was really able to appreciate what this place has to offer in the way of history, construction and movie vehicles on display during my visit. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the gift shop was also worth stopping in, though I didn’t spend quite enough to park for free. I will definitely be stopping in to see the new exhibits the next time I am in LA
If youre into your cars this place is a must see in LA, its not a huge museum but you could quite happily spend a few hours looking at the collection. The majority of the collection are in concourse condition. My favourites were the gt40 which is one of only 7 cars made for the road and is stunning and also the Bugatti which is one of the first cars you look at . If you like cars you must give it a visit.
Beautiful place great staff kind and graciously ask that everyone wear masks. So much cool stuff to see, the minimalist designs at the end of the exhibit were mind bending. Cool stuff !
Amazing exhibits. Super fun place to visit.
A must see for anyone interested in cars. The extended vault tour is fantastic and allows you to see cars not normally or ever on display. The movie car exhibit on presently would interest movie buffs even those without an interest in cars.
Great variety in exhibits. Great events. Love the Vault - definitely go see it.
1st time visiting Petersen Automotive Museum.I went with a large group of co-workers, so we scheduled a guided tour which took about 90 minutes. It was very helpful hearing the overall history of automobiles. From who invented them and how automotive companies got started. Also saw vehicles that were used in T.V. shows & movies.Note: The museum has 3 floors. While on guided tour, I noticed a restaurant on the 1st floor, Souvenir store on the 1st floor as well and a play room with crafts and touch screens monitors for kids on the 2nd floor. Conclusion: If you are a car buff or want to try something a little different, I highly recommend Petersen Automotive Museum.Note: As for the price of admission and parking, I dont know. I was fortunate that my job paid for this experience.
Took my 88 year old Dad and 68 year old Brother in time to grab the 1:45 Vault tour in the basement. Too many unbelievable cars to see in 75 minutes, wished we spent the extra $7 to take the 120 minute extended tour. We have visited once before and almost all cars were rearranged or replaced with something just as cool. We spent almost 5 hours on all 4 floors and the old farts (me included, Im 70) were dragging my the end. Will Definitely take that adventure again.
Amazing collection of vehicles! Delightful to see the originals which I have seen in movies over the years.
The Peterson exceed my expectations of a museum anchored by an automobile collection. I thought the experience captured the evolution of automobiles with nods to Hollywood, Cali racing culture and Cali low rider culture. I loved the Porsche exhibit and the collection of race cars. My kids enjoyed the interactive screens, the batmobile, the kids area and the video game/simulator.
Great experience for car enthusiast. Museum caters to all ages. Big selection of cars from every era. There is a cafe inside and lounge area on the roof. It is even better after major restoration 2 years ago. Gift shop also available.
WOW!!! So impressed! This is a must see place! You must also visit their special collection in the Vault. No cameras or pictures allowed down there. I couldve spent the entire time there. The guides had such great stories to tell about the history behind the vehicles!! Ill be back!!
If youre a car guy/gal, this is the place for you. Petersen made a name for himself by being the publisher for Hot Rod and Road & Track, among many other magazines. The installations and exhibits here will provoke conversation, debate, and ideas. It is truly, an automotive Mecca.Pay the money and get a vault tour. No pictures, but the images and memories will last a lifetime. Plus, youll get to see a few cars theyre working on.10/10, would recommend.
As a car lover I can’t say enough about the Peterson Auto Museum. It’s so great that we are lucky enough to see both their special exhibits and private collection cars. Spend the day here, have lunch at the onsite restaurant and relax.
If youre car guy or gal you need to hit this place up at lest once in your life. The cars here are amazing. They have some awesome rare carz, like the first Shelby Cobra signed by Carroll Shelby himself. Also movie buffs might want to check this place out to the got quite a few movie cars too.
Great place to visit if you are interested in learning more car history.
Amazing!!!!!!!!!! A great field trip location. I learned so much. Look forward to a return trip next time Im in the state.
Incredible museum. Some really interesting exhibits and a very reasonable price. Not sure I agree with the $17 fee for parking. Looking forward to returning to do the vault tour.
I wanted to visit the museum after a lot of years of the last time I was there. And I loved it! If you are a car guy/girl you have to visit the museum. I will visit the vault in my next visit.
Super cool collection and a lot of really interesting history. Im not a car guy and I still really enjoyed it. The Vault tour was pretty neat but a little overstuffed. Serious car enthusiasts will love it, but if youre more a casual admirer than youre good with just doing the upper levels.
Amazing museum, one of my most favoriteAutomotive museums.
Such a fun and carefully designed museum! This place is not just for fans of cars, this place is great for everyone.I’m not a huge fan of cars, nor do I understand a single thing about them, but my boyfriend lives and breathes cars so this was a real treat for him, and honestly after visiting it was for me too.On the second floor, the Peterson has created this amazing area, where you can go through all the processes of designing, manufacturing, and even marketing a car. This area, with the design center, info booths (which have awesome and helpful videos on the designing, creating and the steps on marketing a car), and an area for “kids” which I use lightly because it teaches you the basics of a car. I spent a good half hour in there and I came out pretty well-versed in my automotive basics. I now know how a car functions which was really neat. The third floor is filled with history of cars as well as some historic ones (THE BATMOIBLE IS THERE HOW AWESOME).Truly, I came out a car enthusiast because of this place.I’m even headed there possibly next week to check out their vault tour!Truly an amazing place because it covers all aspects of the industry, and doesn’t just display a couple of cars without really making you learn everything about it.
This is an absolute must see!!I am huge car enthusiast, and my husband is somewhat interested. I loved every second of the museum, and it left me wanting more!!!!My dad did the interior in several of the cars on display at the time, including the bat mobile! Wish they would have plaques on the cars like the paint job, interior, and motor like typical car shows do! Instead I asked one of the jacketed people who had no idea about any of the silly questions I had.Within walking distance of urban lights, and the tar pits!
Great place for the whole family lots of fun cars to see
The Petersen Museum is the place to go if you are a car fanatic or not. Is a great museum to check out. You get to see all kinds of classics and hot rods. Their Saturday events are great! Great opportunity to not only see car but meet new friends. Family friendly museum. A must see if you are visiting Southern California.
Its a must do on bucket list... so awesome to see how much the automotive has developed and changed over time... kind of expensive but worth a try for sure. When we went they had a kids cars section which I give them a hell yeah high five for that, totally cool idea and so much fun to do with the kidos.
Simply, if you love cars, like movie & sporting memorabilia, and have 1.5-2hrs to spare, then this is a great place to visit
Fantastic, informative, and exciting seeing all the amazing relics from the Sci-fi movies, films, and car races from the past and present! From the moment visitors walk in the door, its like a portal sucking people into a wonderful, high-tech, sophisticated gallery of unparalleled quality. And each car, motorcycle, van, and figure has an special story to tell, whether you know about machinery well, want to see some beloved objects from iconic films, or even just want to spend half a day, this is the place to be!
Best car museum I ever been to... combining cars and movie props is just fantastic! Spent way too much time there and definitely worth the visit. Highly recommended!
If youre a car guy or gal, a very cool place to spend a few hours.
