Beautiful property to visit for the day or stay for an extended period of time at one of their AIRBNBs for a night or a week. Proximity to plenty of wineries and centered in the heart of Loudoun. Oatlands has gorgeous views and filled with history. I give them the highest of recommendations and encourage you to visit! You will not be disappointed.
Beautiful grounds, quite and peaceful. Good place to just enjoy being outside. Difficult to get in and out of due to the state highway its located on. House was not open, maybe due to COVID?
Oatlands has a beautiful house with a nice tour and lovely gardens. The pillars are beautiful. I love the pond and flowers in the garden.
Cool and fun place to take the family. Kids had a blast we love history. Great things to see.
What a beautiful property! So expansive a new detail at every corner. The African slaves who built that property were beyond talented.
Wonderful old trees including a lovely golden gingko, pretty estate and walled garden.
We found this landmark on Groupon. Tours of the house start at the top of every hour so we had some time beforehand to explore the gardens. Some parts are a little overrun, some are nice with many different color flowers and butterflies. Beware of the sweat bees though! The house tour was nice and the guide knew so much history behind the plantation and the multiple families that lived there. It’s very interesting to see the old style architecture and rooms take seem frozen in time.
Such a beautiful garden. I can’t stop going back to this place.
So much information available here. Beautiful location. Nice gift shop, plenty of literature on the site. Worth a visit.
I wouldnt say this is the best estate Ive been too. The garden is beautiful. But I probably would not go again.
House is definitely old which is why I went. This family had connections for sure!! Eleanor Roosevelt stayed here at least once. Beautiful views! The gardens need lots of work and wood railings need repaired on top of brick wall. The gardens at one time must have been simply gorgeous!!
Its magnifiquely drenched in spirited history. New trails with a Spring grand opening as the management is eager to cater to walkers, mountain bikers and horse folks. Eventually to be a link in trail system all the way to the Potomac River.
Oatlands offers an interesting bit of history. The garden is fun to get lost in.
Beautiful. Empty of people due to the pandemic. Gardens were sensational.
Beautiful place, went for a friends wedding. Unfortunately the tent had no much ventilation, crazy hot. We had a good time either way
Tour was pretty cool. We had a groupon for it, otherwise would have been high priced. Guide adjusted the tour to fit our pg audience, which was nice. Still not a touch things kind of tour, but we expected that. Loved walking through the gardens and grounds.
Great example of an antebellum plantation house. Exhibits take you from the building of the house, through the war, the house falling into disrepair, and the restoration of the house by the second owners. The exhibits also dont shy away from the role of slavery in the plantations history. The tour guide (Doug, I believe) was entertaining and knowledgeable, and was very personable. Lastly, the gardens were lovely, even on a cold, dreary day. Definitely worth a visit. Be watchful when driving to the house, the sign leading to the driveway is pretty small and easily missed.
The staff did an excellent job for my nieces wedding. And the venue is absolutely gorgeous.
Beautiful property with plenty of interesting history inside and out! Dont miss out on the greenhouse and smoke house as well and factor in plenty of time to walk around the vast garden!
Had a great time at Oatlands. Nice tour and even better tea. I will be back for tea again. The house and grounds are well kept even for a cold November day. An extra treat was the dog trials that were being held when we visited. This was a welcome stop. I avoid this area of Virginia if I can but will plan another trip to Oatlands.
Pretty place to have an XC race. Finally toured a little. Not a destination place but an interesting stop.
I went with my young daughter and a friend to the Christmas tea and then a candlelight tour of the house. The tea was fantastic! I would easily compare to the teas we experienced when we were in England. Lovely tea for the adults and hot chocolate for my daughter. The sandwiches and desserts were wonderful. After the tea we explored the gift shop, which had some great gifts, including their tea and wine. We took a ride up to the house which was a nice way to see the grounds in the cold. The house was beautiful and everyone was very knowledgeable. The displays were fantastic. I highly recommend visiting Oatlands and their friendly, knowledgeable staff.
It is not worth the $15 to go into the main house. One can walk around the grounds for free and go into all the other buildings and they dont charge you anything for this. But to pay $15 to go into the house is way overpriced in my opinion, it should be more like $5 as this is a non-profit organization.I had problem with an employee there, an elderly lady named Catherine. I drove about 20 minutes just to go to Oatlands and went into the first building you come to and attempted to purchase a ticket. There was this elderly lady named Catherine working behind the counter and as I was looking at some of the brochures on the counter, she kept talking and talking continuously.I eventually handed her $20 for the $15 ticket but she kept on blabbering away and would not ring me up. I asked her to ring me up as I did not want to stand there all day listening to her blabbering. She would not and I think reason was that if she rang me up and I left, there would be no one to listen to her endless blabbering. Finally I realized she was not going to ring me up and I asked for my money back. She reluctantly gave it back and kept on blabbering as I walked away. I went back to my car and drove back home. About 1 1/2 hours of my time just wasted because of this elderly lady.I called the executive director of Oatlands, a lady named Bonnie, to inform her of my experience and wasted trip there. I left several messages on her voice mail but she would not return my calls. Then I called and spoke with another employee named Matt and made him aware of the problem employee and that Bonnie would not return my calls. Matt was very nice and told me he would look into it.Later that day, Bonnie called and left a very mean and threatening voice message where she was screaming at me and told me never to come to come to Oatlands again and to never call anyone at Oatlands again. I could not believe anyone with her attitude problem is the executive director as I was only trying to let her know about the problem I had with an employee. I think Catherine must be her mother or related to her in some way as Bonnie was furious that I was complaining about this elderly lady.Maybe she got mad because I had reported her to Matt but I am going to try to find out if there is anyone over Bonnie and inform them her issues and play for them her nasty voice message she left. Bonnie has no business in dealing with the public in my opinion!
A walk back in time. Beautiful home and gardens provides a feel for life centuries ago.
Beautiful home and grounds. Finding this place was a happy accident. I highly recommend going there.
Beautiful place to spend an afternoon, tour the gardens
Enjoyed the the tea. The luck of having a very informed greater at the house made it exceptional. The printed information was ok, but her passion and bits of detail made it very special .
Not worth the money.. There are better spots with similar history and ambience in the area. Wasnt impressed with one staff member who was abrasive and condescending. Exact opposite of the warm and welcoming atmosphere of other historic sites. We were expecting to like this place, so very disappointing. Sad it came down to an interaction with one person. Hope others have a better experience!
My photography group booked this venue for an event last winter. We signed a contract after a very detailed conversation with the event coordinator about our event. We talked about what our group does, the educational purpose of our event, and how excited we were to host an event at this location. We loved the location, but then things changed. On September 2nd, we received an email simply stating that they were cancelling our event. This was two weeks before our event date. After numerous attempts to find out the reason, the manager of the property eventually called us. We had to force them to explain why they canceled our educational event. I would NOT recommend Oatlands for your event unless you want the chance that they might cancel last minute on you.
Excellent place for a self guided walking tour. Beautiful mansion and grounds!
We were really excited to rent this location for a costuming and photoshoot event. We booked it many months out and paid upfront with a contract. 2 weeks before our event they cancelled our contract saying they didnt want costumers there. We had to scramble to find another location. Beware of youre booking them as they have nothing in their contact to prevent them from cancelling at any time
Great trails around the property
Very good guided tour through the house. The home is lovely. Here youll find the oldest green house in the south. Guide was knowledgeable and articulate. The home was beautiful and furnished with authentic (actually belonging to the family)and period pieces. The grounds were so lovely.well kept. Many varieties of flowers shrubs trees fountains. It was great. You will enjoy this attraction
If I could give zero stars I would. I booked this venue for an event in February. We signed a contract and had a very indepth conversation with the event coordinator about our event. On September 2nd, I got an email (not a call which would have been appropriate) simply stating that they were cancelling our event. This was two weeks before our event was about to happen. Of course, I panicked and called numerous times with no response. Finally, at the end of the day the manager of the property calls me. By this time both myself and my event team for our group have called over 20 places in a panic to get our group a place to have our event in two weeks. The manager casually says that he might be able to get us off site but hardly apologies. Very disappointed especially as a history buff. I would expect that when someone cancels an event on you at their location that they give you the decency to at least call first and then email with a follow up. I would NOT recommend Oatlands for your event unless you want the chance that they might cancel last minute on you.
A wonderful day we went for the Tea and touring its a great place for the family to enjoy
What a pleasure Oatlands Historic House & Gardens was to visit! Admission was absolutely reasonable ($9 each with a Groupon coupon), and included a guided tour of the first floor of this pre-Revolutionary War/Civil War home as well as allowed us to walk-upstairs for a self-guided tour of the bedroom area. Convenient placards told us details about the rooms and their contents. Walking down the second set of stairs we went into the extensive gardens - absolutely lovely. This plantation was truly a pleasure - and Ill absolutely bring future visitors (and 7+ year old grandchildren) to visit.
An amazing intimate garden to take photos at. There is a small gift shop and your you can take of the houses if you would like to pay an entrance fee for a 30-35 minute tour. I have never taken a tour of the inside but have visited many a time in all seasons and all kinds of weather!
Very pretty historic site, with all the usual rural views and amenities. The main house and gardens are great, if youre into that kind of thing. The staff are inviting, knowledgeable, and engaging.Price was $10 per person or $20 per family.
Plantation type property. Grounds well kept. Has a nice little visitors center with a small gift shop. Coffee and snacks available only.
Great place to visit. You should book the tour of the mansion and while you are there take part in one of their teas!
The Paranormal Tour was so much fun, a little creepy, a little kitschy. Loved it!
Lovely Mansion, not too far away and decorated beautifully for Christmas. Also a nice gift shop. One can have tea if one reserves in advance.
Fascinating history. Toured with Judith and her presentation was great!! Beautiful gardens.
It was very knowledgeable in finding out about the past history of my familys beginnings here in the United States of America.
Great historical site!
Soooo romantic and very beautiful
Beautiful grounds. Interesting house. Really good tea.
Beautiful location with plenty of hiking and walking paths
Wonderful gardens and great historic home.
Charming ground with an interesting history. The tea service is very good. Tea at Oatlands is a very nice treat, especially near the holidays., when they really go all out.
Lovely gardens, interesting and committed staff eager to tell you about the history of the property.
Great place. Very Historic. The Loudoun Hunt point to point is held here every spring and its a must see event
Oatlands has many interesting programs as well as an historic garden that is fabulous year-round. They are closed for tours January through March.
Tours of the house are only given Thursday through Sunday, something I missed. The $10 entrance fee for the grounds is too much. Garden and buildings alike seem a bit trashy and not well taken care of like other places in Virginia similar to this.
Its a beautiful house, with so much history. The gardens are also beautiful. We really enjoyed our tour.
Great old historic plantation with beautiful gardens
Beautiful property and the self guided tour upstairs is a real treat
Beautiful property! Must at least go once to take in the views!
Historic house huge gardens
Such a good place to visit...learn some history
Tour guide was fantastic! She is an architect and very knowledgeable of history and building. Loved the carriage house, too.

Beautiful gardens and a wide variety of interesting trees on the grounds here.
A jewel of a property. A must visit if youre in and around Northern Virginia.
Beautiful, historic home and gardens to tour!
Good tour guide. A little pricey, but you get to see the gardens and the manor house.
Very informative. Gardens are beautiful.
