Love the trail, but you cant bring your dog which really sucks! I only hike with my dog now and find it disappointing how many places I am finding that you can not hike with your dog... even on leash... come on Leesburg/Lake County!
This is a hiking trail and nothing else. The trail is a at least 2 or 3 miles. So I wouldnt recommend going near dark, sure too the animals living there. This trail suite take you next to a swamp which do contain alligators. So you do need to be careful walking this trail. Just remember its their home where nursing visting. You need to sign in/out when going on the trail, but that is due too your safety. The Rangers need to know who is out there for your safety.
We traveled down the road to go for a nice short walk while were out here working although dogs are not allowed at this park even on a short Leash. The single lane dirt road may feel like its going nowhere but it does go to the park.
Beautiful. Cool lots of green
Well marked trails but bring some insect repellent.
Nice shaded paths with lots of birds.
Easy to find and not far from home. This was an impromptu drive-by ( I wasnt dressed for walking a trail) so didnt walk far. I will definitely go again and wear proper trail footwear. Flipflops are not a good choice due to tree roots and leaf litter.
Absolutely no consideration given to people with disabilities, road is wide enough for a vehicle, no dogs allowed, no bikes, rules were obviously made to keep people out shame on them
True florida, nice walk. I love the meadow area. Youll never know what youll see. Passed a shy coral snake that didnt want to be photography
Its a nice looking preserve off the beaten path. It does need better signs.
Very beautiful.
A step into the wilderness, go back in time for Florida before Europeans and modern America.
Love it! All the shade makes a world of difference in hottt Florida
Delightful place to enjoy serenity and view Wildlife.
The trails are well marked and the trails are clear of excess debris, Koodos to the trail keeper! There was a good amount of shade all along the trail. There is a bathroom at the parking area. We enjoyed looking for wildlife and plants and trees. I looking forward to my next hike here.
Very lovely! Paths are cleared and well marked.
Quiet and remote...loved it.
Great easy trails. Clean and peaceful.
Fresh air but some garbage around
Trails are clean for the most part. The single campsite is ok, water pump does not work.
Trails were well kept. Lots of life. Saw a small alligator and a heron. Lot more crowded on weekends, so if you want peace and quiet, go on a weekday.
This is an unforgettable habitat that I’ve never seen before. It appears to be formed on what was the ocean floor in a previous geological age. There are no rocks, only ocean sand and organic matter. A bad jungle movie could have been filmed there. We saw an armadillo digging for insects. There are weird brown mushrooms that look like dung in the field area. It was very quiet and the air smelled good. It looks really prehistoric. The main sounds were huge clumps of moss falling from trees and scurrying lizards. Unfortunately there was also the sound of bulldozers and backhoes destroying nearby land. My husband said the land being ruined looked like the Preserve habitat. He wouldn’t let me look, he knows how sad I am about the loss of natural environments. It is completely unnecessary in the a Leesburg area to add more tackiness or beige boring identical old peoples’ houses. See this place to see what Florida looked like before the destruction by construction.
A peaceful walk, very shady, and theres interesting things along the way you can point out!
Beautiful shady, wooded trails WEAR HIKING BOOTS! Thank you FLORIDA TRAIL ASSOCIATION for maintaining it! Long walk in to the canoe launch!
No Dogs Allowed! We drove an hour to only find out at the trailhead that no dogs are allowed. Dont make the same mistake we did!
Nice walk in the woods. I wish the trail identified the route to the boardwalk area better but the long way there was still fun.
Beautiful place to walk largest loop is 4.5 miles. So be ready to walk with comfortable sneakers as there are tree roots to trip on.
I cant say how nice the trail is because I did not go. It was not posted no dogs anywhere until at the trailhead. Brought my dog and did not do the hike. Would not recommend . zero stars out of five
Its a nice easy hike around 3 miles. Nice restroom facilities at entrance. 2 primitive camp sites. One is big for a group in the front and the second is the back and a small site. There is also canoe rental.
Great walking trails. Nice photo opportunities
Nice place to walk. At the end is a small dock with canoes u can somehow borrow/ rent but im not sure how. Very nice restrooms. No dogs are currently allowed here, but soon I think its in the works to allow leashed dogs.
Beautiful walk in the woods. Feels like you are really in the middle of nowhere. Our guide was very knowledgeable of the plants and history of the area.
Wilderness at its best. Nice hike to the lake. SNAKES along the way BEWARE!
Nice place for walking
I love hiking on the trails here. Just remember to bring the bug spray in the summer months
Love this place!!! Great trails. Can spend hours there
Flat Island Preserve consists of shady hammocks at a slightly higher elevation than the surrounding Okahumpka Cypress Marsh. There are over 6 miles of densely wooded trails, three camp sites, one only accessible by canoe or kayak. Canoes, paddles and flotation vests are available through the LCWA office at no charge but you must make arrangements ahead of your arrival. Thank you to the people of Lake County for protecting this natural treasure!
