MSS is a casino i would probably have never visited if not for family from Hawaii opting to stay here. But over the last couple of years, I’ve grown quite fond of this place. The buffet is usually lackluster but the champagne brunch buffet on the weekends has all of my staples that I want in a breakfast buffet — good eggs, good sausages, good lox, and grits. The casino itself is on the smaller side but there’s a walkway that connects to the California Hotel. Parking is free for guests and for visitors, it ranges from $8-12 for the first 2-3 hours or something (first 30 mins free).Service is generally friendly. The air is smokier than the average casino (poor ventilation?) but then again, few casinos offer clean air, so I can’t complain. The Triple 7 brewery has some good beers...and the food is quite decent.
Although a quick road trip to my old home town was a 2 night stay at Binion’s, a trip down Fremont Street we stopped in at Main Street Station for a better deal at most of their bars. 4 stars because I have no idea how the rooms are but in general I like the old school vibe and feel of downtown Fremont Street hotel casinos as to further up The Strip where I was part of the 90s workforce building boom. The Strip has honestly become so over built that with limited land space casinos are getting taller. RIO smelled like mold and like many older projects I worked are now being bought up by Caesars who I hear is being bought up by El Dorado Resorts for a couple billion bucks. Stay downtown at properties like Main Street is my opinion for a more older LV feel.
