Vintage coziness. I have no complaints at all. I did check in on a weekend so it was pretty steep pricing for staying in the Vintage rooms but all I need is a clean bed, really.Plus, this is like 300ft from the Fremont experience!Just take the Deuce bus to the strip & youre setIt is overall dim & relaxing and way exceeded my expectations. I absolutely adore that it isnt annoying & flashy.
I did not stay at this place, but I did go visit a friend who stayed there for a couple nights after we had stayed on the strip. He wanted to be closer to downtown which was fine. But what I found when I visited him. definitely a rundown place and very very sketchy with the people who come and go even though; their security everywhere. Which made me feel a little bit safer. Considering they only allow people who stay in the hotel to have access to the parking and the elevators.. but I still felt like it could have been a little bit better in a sense of some type of upgrade. Cleansiness. The rooms felt dingy, closed in, not a room that I would feel safe staying in by myself. Yes Im a female, and I have stayed numerous times all around different states by myself and never felt that uncomfortable. Compared to how I felt in this particular hotel even when my friend was around me. The parking itself is a little tight, congested with other cars. I guess thats part of Vegas lots especially in the downtown areas. Access to the strip was very easily walkable once you get through a sketchy part of town. would I walk around there by myself? Probably not. And Ive been going to Vegas for over 20 years several times if not more per year. And I know the area is not to go to. Id say if you dont mind the dinginess and the smokiness. With keeping in mind that the rooms are nothing to be amazed about. you only want to be close to downtown and have that access not to have to worry about driving and drinking to get back to your hotel. This place would be something you could think of.
I love this place! A true Old Vegas gem! Built in the 40s and still retains much of its art deco charm! Havent stayed in one of the rooms yet but hope to soon. The casino is smaller than some but has plenty of winning machines to choose from and their restaurant is fantastic! Not at all overpriced and the quality of your meal is excellent. Very well made by real chefs I imagine! Lol...Not the usual slop anyway. Go and enjoy your time there!
The El Cortez feels like home to me. It has everything you need in a casino. Most of all I love the class, something money cant buy. The late Jackie Gaughan made sure this place was run right, he lived here for his last 35 years. The place is an old-school gem that must be experienced firsthand. Siegels 1941 is one of the best restaurants downtown. The El Cortez staff is friendly and accommodating, drinks are strong and a good gamble at the tables.
Positive: That it had a fridge Negative: Music getting played at 3am
Absolutely loved the place... However, the room my girlfriend and I had was extremely cold and never heated up. I dont know why we didnt ask to change kinda made it uncomfortable...
Ive gradually watch the decline of the El Cortez over the years! The hospitality is horrible, the waitresses dont really care about servicing or making money, and ...they argue with you over drinks! Since Jackie died and Michael sold out to corporate... its become a real sh#thole! I used up my comp points today just so I dont have to come back! Waste your money if you want! Also, the slots are a joke! The claim to be 40%looser than competitors... its a lie!
Here for a short period of time won a good amount of money on small investment. They even still have a few machines that acually pay out in coins! LOVE that!!
We love the El Cortez! If you like the old Vegas vibe, its the place to go. My only recommendation would be to improve the quality of the food at Siegels 1941. Its a little lackluster...and this is coming from someone with a pretty pedestrian palate!
My husband and I came here after hanging out on Fremont. We played the quarter machines (which I didnt know were still around) and easily killed an hour after starting with just $2 in quarters. Security was ensuring people were not just standing around (such as actively playing machines, walking, etc). Cocktail waitress came by twice while we were playing. It is definitely a place to come back to and kill some time for cheap!
We had Thanksgiving dinner, it was very, very good. The right sized portions, and the food quality was excellent. We are looking forward to their Prime Rib special very soon.
Great atmosphere. The prime Rib and pot Roast are a must try. Dont forget dessert wonderful Cheese cake
If I could, like so many of us local Las Vegans.... Id bottle the El Cortez smell and save it for a rainy day. There is nothing more nostalgic for me then this place. My husband and I always have a great time playing the tables, or wheel of fortune (only $20 though) and even just a walk through seeing the old Vegas they have on display, or going to the gift shop is fun. Go take a whiff of the air for me and see for yourself.
It’s a decent casino for the time it’s been here, but what i do have a problem is some of there casino promotions like if you play some of there older slot machines they have a promo where you keep playing and the meter fills up to 100% and you get free slot play, ok good and there’s 3 levels bronze, silver and gold, the photo I took shows the game pick 2 and win the free play but it’s not even fair it already pre determined what am getting so there was no point in me clicking each one I mean I thought there we 2 $11, 2 $16, etc nope it just gave me the lowest number and this is Gold Level! I would think the amounts would be higher nope!
Wednesdays are special at the long time el Cortez downtown Las Vegas Nevada. Been going to this place since 1969. Still owned by the same family. Clean bathroom and great menu for the seniors. Great variety. From matzo ball soup to deli sandwiches some Mexican food great salads omelets half-price the regular price special menu decent servings not real big just right great quality Cobb salad I have today was excellent
Positive: Location was great for us. Negative: Staff at the casino was very rude
Positive: The view Negative: No
The El Cortez Hotel is a real gem in the downtown area of Las Vegas. The hotel is really taking Covid-19 safety seriously, by strictly enforcing protocols. Everything is very clean and our recently remodeled Premium Tower Suite was exquisite. The rooms are very large, the queen sized beds very comfortable, and the bathroom very elegant. The view of the city from the 14th floor tower room was nothing short of spectacular. Security was excellent in making you feel safe even though the surrounding neighborhood is kind of seedy. I dont recommend walking around downtown at night.
Positive: Location to Fremont Street. Casino credit.
We just checked out. Had a wonderful time. Beautiful room. Friendly staff. And all did their very best to keep everyone safe. We will definitely be back
Positive: Absolutely nothing was redeemable. Negative: It stank, old, charged me another 25.00 resort fee. Place was not a resort.
We stayed in the vintage room at the Cortez. It really need some much needed improvement and updates. It was a good size room with a big bed. It is in walking distance of Freemont street. Plus the casino is right down stairs. The room was old with a broken towel and toilet paper holder. We tried to turn on the TV when we first got there, and the remote would not work. We asked the housecleanner for more batteries for it, but they never came. We also found mice droppings on the bathroom floor. We were charged more for the room then what we were quoted on line. All in all it was a interesting experience that I would choose not to experience again. I would ask a lot of questions before booking a room with them again.
Stayed in vintage room. No elevators to get to room. Had to pay extra for a room with access to elevator. No electrical outlets in the room except for the bathroom. Was never told there was wifi until checkout. Had to pay $50 deposit for every night stayed.
Positive: The staff here are excellent at what they do. Negative: Siegels there restaurant need a bigger menu options.
I love this hotel and have stayed there several times. Prior to upgrading it was a little bit dated but I loved it. Being a Family Owned and Run Establishment your always treated well and they always remember that you have been staying with them over a period of times. Some of the Suites are fabulous and I love and appreciate the Extra personal touches & treats that they freely give & set aside for you.IN CONCLUSION: EL Cortez Hotel although way off the Strip is convenient for just about all that youre going to want to do. Its Atmosphere is Great, Gaming Area Cosy, as are the Bars. The Food offerings are various but reasonable to fabulous.
Warm, friendly atmosphere and the winnings are easy. They still have real quarter machines. Small sports book and an excellent restaurant - Siegles, (named after Bugsy). Really like this casino. Free parking if you possess the right member card. Good luck.
Positive: Nothing hotel is very old n run down. AC is very loud can hardly sleep Negative: Everything was bad
Positive: Great location Negative: Small bathroom
My mother suggested that we go here since it used to be 1 of her mother & fathers favorite spots. I agreed since I also had a friend win $6,000 here a few mths bck. The room they comped her was really spacious and nice. I wouldnt mind staying in the hotel.I was bummed that they didnt have the cheap breakfast (that I grew up on) anymore. And It was actually a lot smaller than I remembered. Neither of us was winning until my way out the door. I put my last $3 && won my $ back us maybe $20. But regardless we had a good time on our ladies night out.
Before we discovered the El Cortez, my wife always wanted to stay on the strip. That took 1 afternoon of playing at El Cortez to change. The people are fantastic, the food is great and the winning is constant! What casino can you be playing, having a good time and the owner comes to ask if your having a good time? They have an employee that has been there 50 years! Says something to me. Go see her around the bar by the live Keno. Shes a treat!
Love this casino. It has an old time mobster feel to it and that is how the restaurant is set up as well. They have a great Prime Rib special!
My favorite casino anywhere. A trip back in time to the real Vegas. The prime rib special is perfect every time at Siegels. The new rooms are great. And, the table games and slots are the best in town. The owner spends a lot of money restoring this place, and the employees speak highly of him. I come to Vegas just to play here. I hope to win enough to cover my Uber ride. I usually do.
Older casino but more quaint then the big ones. Old smoke smell is very strong. Seigels resturant is pretty good. Spa is not as fancy but with a players card its 70 bucks for a massage. Massage is good.
The renovated rooms are very nice and the North side of the building is quiet for sleeping late. The old Vegas Vibe is soo nice and makes downtown extra special. Gamblin Granny the slot blogger recommended you and we will stay again. And I won. I never win at the D.
Something has change at the El Cortez it was a different feel the usual it smelted different but fresh and i didnt realize but the old carpet is gone which is a huge improvement super nice choice. I Love this classic place every time i go to freemont i have to stop in the Elcortez nice bartenders, has some older games and table games.
Only casino I visited on my kast trip that paid out on the machines. Willy Wonka is my new fav. Cocktail waitresses are very stern about giving you a drink ONLY if you are playing a machine or at a table. With no bars open at the time I went, this was kind of a hassle. Other than that, super fun gambling!
Terrible gaming experience, I approached a machine no player no money in it just an empty chair, when to put a $100 dollar bill and was approached by a very rude middle eastern men that claimed this machine was his, using all kind of profanity he then takes his cell phone calls a member of management a ball headed white gentleman on a gray suit and he tries to explain to me this guy lost a lot of money and was upset to play something else, I can even tell you how wrong this was Im a small business owner and I also had a lot of money to play I felt like my money wasnt welcomed at El Cortez, my wife and I both took out money to the strip we are now playing at the cosmopolitan safer and more positive then all this negative playing energy we got at El Cortez shame on youre poor management skills, need to retrain the staff our employees would of never let a new paying customer walk out the door... terrible stay away from El Cortez......
We were in a newly updated room. The decor was nice. The pillows were not too good. The shower was roomy, but water was always on the floor. We had upgraded our room online to a jacuzzi suite for $18 per night. When we got to the hotel it was $60 per night. We also was very disappointed I the happy hour. Happy hour described appetizers for $5 and there was an outside and in bar advertisement, however they would not honor the happy hour prices. Went to management and complained. The barmaid said the change was made Saturday. On Sunday they hadnt taken the advertised prices down. They would not make the customer happy. Probably will not be returning to the El Cortez.
I love this place every time I stay here the rooms are immaculately clean and I love the new upgrades to the bathrooms and the actual space itself the staff is amazing especially housekeepers and the bartenders are awesome and the restaurant is always really good with the food its always cooked great and its warm still when you get it just in case its delivery or to the room and I just absolutely love it
Positive: Vintage Vegas reminds me of the 50s or 60s... but ALOT of shaky people Negative: Restaurants prices way too high
El Cortez is pretty good we stayed in the vintage rooms nothing fancy. We had a little issue with the AC/heat called and someone was right up to fix it. The toilet was very low. HOT water, felt so good but not a lot of pressure. Game play was fun. They still have the real coin machines, fun. Very short walk to Fremont Street lots of shops and entertainment. Great for the price. They do have a newer area tower dont know much about that.
The El Cortez was the stop my friend put her foot down on me going to. So happy I listened to her! Fantastic old style Vegas music, actual coin winnings at some of the machines (btw, great souviner if ya keep one!), nice vibes, and excellent customer service. Enjoy!
Great little out of the way place! Seigal 41 is a good, adorable restaurant.. serves breakfast all day, but be sure to ask for the prime rib special for only $12.99. Its not on the menu. It was very yummy. We ate there twice on our trip!
This place is a great idea when getting away from the faster pace. Real casual and laid back. Getting to the main strip was easy to. Finding a place to eat at normal human rates was easier for me here as well parking was pretty easy to. I was really able to recharge here. Thanks guys for the relaxing stay......
Wonderful place! Wonderful! Old school for an OG. Recently spent a week there in one of the vintage rooms. My stable all agree with me (theyd better): The old Manhattan Deuce could learn a thing or two from this living masterpiece.Looked everywhere for ol Fat Irish Green. No luck. Gonna check the dispensary in a few. With a little luck, Ill find the feller. Maybe his bag, man.
Positive: Not sure
Updated rooms are gorgeous. 1941 restaurant has excellent food. Low stakes tables and you can make your own luck
I love the El Cortez.. great room rates, big and fun casino, and nice staff! Recommend for sure for a classic Vegas visit!
Absolutely the friendliest staff I’ve ever experienced in all my travels. Every single person at El Cortez was happy and helpful.
I love the old school atmosphere and the staff. I highly recommend to anyone wishing to stay downtown when visiting Las Vegas.
Retro-chic rooms were clean! Great value! And loose slots! Actually left with more money than arrived with! Super awesome. Friendly and very attentive security staff made the stay feel safe by guarding entrance to rooms above casino floor!
I loved my stay. For $270 total for 3 days, it wasnt a bad experience! The room was clean and the bed was comfy. Sure it looks like a motel upstairs nut the place is rich with history. The casino is alright the tables were fun, Siegels is open 24/7 and was great to visit past 3am and the courtesy shuttle was great to use as part of the resort fees (which were only $20 a night in included in my cost above).
Check-in for sure if you are staying in Old VegasWe got a very good deal from Priceline. It was only $35 for the Tower room. I have research thoroughly what room can be best and found the view from tower room is outstanding. Looking upon this hotel from far, it has 2 part. One has big 15-20 story building and other has old classic structure. Blend of two era I guess. I had a rental car so parking was allocated for their customers next block. You show your hotel card and they will let you go. Coming from Garage to a hotel can be tricky. It has diff entrances and exits.Time taken to Check-in was hardly 10 minutes. First they told they don’t have tower room but I insisted as I booked that room only, way advance. The ground floor has casino-Bar and restaurant. The hotel has four types of room; Tower- Pavilion- Vintage & Cabana. And seems all types of room has different entrance. Cause lift at the end of ground floor has access to only tower rooms. So I am assuming this. You have to use your hotel key in the elevator to press whatever floor you need to get to. Our room was clean. It has a view of Vegas city. One king size bed, couch- chairs-table-dressing mirror-TV-Fridge, every required & needed thing was there in the room. Though the bathroom was a little dirty and outdated.Location of El Cortez is amazing. Just next to Fremont Street (yes old Vegas charm). Check out was very easy and quick, with no issues there either. They also have drop off to airport facility. We were satisfied and would definitely recommend this
Besides convenient parking (hotel guest) slots super tight. Respect its history, but will not stay again. Let alone walk into casino EVER again.
The casino has a great nostalgic feel with outstanding history. Its nice to sit down to old school slots. The complimentary drinks are very weak unfortunately.
I ate dinner there with my wife and after i was waiting for her to come out of bathroom. Out of nowhere security came up to me and demanded my id. I ask why and they told me i was on private property and they dont need to give me a reason. So i told them i do not have to show my id. Then they told me to leave. They lost some money from us we all left. I wont be back.
This a place is located in the old Las Vegas. If you want to visit the big resort hotels like Belagio or Caesar Palace you will need a car or use public transportation. The building is old, and it had a weird smell in the rooms and corridors. It has a huge parking structure and a small reception front desk.People there are very friendly. There seems to be extra caution with security; there were watch guards on our floor and at the entrance of the parking lot making sure we were guests. We had to wear a color wrist band. There were slot machines all over the casino area and a small restaurant.Over all we had a restful night but we were cautious walking around the area.If you need a budget place to stay this hotel/casino will do.
Its got classic style slot machines with coins that attracts the older crowd. And young too. And get the classy old style feeling
Went to the restaurant for the specials food was great service Whats not good at all
Ive always enjoyed the old side of the hotel. The 1st time I stayed there was 1976. Things have changed a lot and we havent seen nothing yet. The El Cortez still gets the nod with me; For a lot of different reasons. I do miss the old days.
Fun games, great food & drinks, friendly employees all serve to make the El Cortez an excellent choice to visit for tourists & locals alike.
Vintage blast. I have been coming here since i was a baby and its a very nostalgic feeling. People are so friendly and there is a nice selection for dining, entertainment, and shoppingsg in and around rhe casino.
Old hotel casino that need new managment with new ideas and plans, was a prime place not more
Positive: I Didnt book this hotel and I most certainly would not have choose the old falling apart out-house known as the Cortez
The Remodeled hotel rooms were very well done! The only bad thing were the beds, theyre not comfortable. But the whole property looks very good these days
I totally enjoyed my stay here. The hotel is near tourist attractions and you can walk to a lot of places. They were also nice enough to give us a free room upgrade.
I love the el cortez my parents favorit and now ours. I love all the promos they give out food is excellent and slots are pretty darn good..thank you el cortez
This is a beautiful old hotel in the downtown district. It has a restaurant open 24 hours, a great pizza place that also serves coffee, a salon where you can also book a massage, and a few bar areas. Full on casino in here. The sweet lady at the front desk upgraded my room and gave me a voucher for discounts throughout the hotel. My room is gorgeous!
Historic and gorgeous!! Love the vibe here. Biggest bed ever and very classy.
Was niceHavent been there in a while, and was on that side of townAlthough Outerbanks kinda seedy
I stay here frequently, and Love the place! Definite nostalgic feel, and the staff is pretty friendly.
The Gem of Downtown. El Cortez is the oasis at the end of Fremont. Hands down my favorite place to stop by in the middle of bar hopping. All of the employees are pleasant, that extends to pit bosses, bartenders, drink servers, theres no place else Id rather gamble in downtown Fremont! Its location is a big factor to its success, Right next to the popular bars that Downtown hosts, and the Container Park is very suited for family activities and great food spots. All in all, my favorite Casino/Hotel in the downtown Las Vegas area.
We really like this place. Such a good location. Bartenders are pretty cool.. Staff are very nice and fun. Rooms are fine.
The El Cortez is the best Old School Hipster Joint in Vegas great friendly people where everybody is welcome!
The service here was horrible. The lady. Lupita was extremely rude. Who knows what was going on with her. But it was right. After I had spent hundreds of dollars. Me an my party. I ask for water. An she told me. I can get up an get it from the bar. So I wonder why would they have someone so rude working in customer service for there establishment. Will not be recommending anyone to spend there money here. So disappointed on my vacation.
I just went to eat. Hotel and casino are nice to walk through at 730 in the morning! But Ill save my review for the restaurant!
Great staff and machines pay out more frequently than any other casinos
I love el cortez. Always win there
Old school charm, but mostly remodeled. Free parking during the week downtown is a huge plus and reasonable room rates.
My friends and I always like gambling at the El Cortez. Their tables are very relaxed, comfortable and service is good. We were looking to do a budget Vegas weekend, and there were what seemed like excellent deals at the El Cortez. Since we enjoy the casino, we decided to just stay there this time. We went with the vintage room because sit was a heck of a deal and sounded kind of cool. The reality was it is very small, in moderate disrepair, and very dirty (dust/dirt in all the crevices, window sills and ceiling tiles). The Furniture was dated, but the bed seemed clean. The other bad thing about the room is you can actually hear the muffled casino background music from directly below, making it very difficult to sleep. At check in, they tried to change my reservation to a pavilion room, but those were much worse (motel style rooms on top of the parking garage). The tower premium rooms look nice, and I highly recommend only staying in one of those rooms. 2 stars because I still really like the casino, and the restaurant is good. Even though the room was cheap, the proportionally high resort fees (~$22 a night) nearly double the price of the room and make it totally not worth it. Maybe next time we’ll try a premium room, but more than likely we’ll just stay somewhere else.
Its great rooms, but very tight on bonuses and free slot play...
Its clean. And the staff is friendly. As long as this prime rib is on point but Im about to go eat...they earn the 4. we didnt get 5 because theyre a little outdated thats all but other than that not bad at all
The employees were so nice and friendly. My daughter and I had a wonderful time. Thank you El Cortez Hotel and Casino. Dmm
A ball of firewood excitement a twist to exist and food to make your mouth water go to El Cortez youll get a win and a spring in one like hot tamales
They pulled the old bait and switch and were not truthful about it menu special. They offered a 12.99 Prime Rib but once you get a table (after a long wait) the price is much higher on the menu. See photos.
I stayed there for 4 nights. I had booked hotel online when there was some offer. When I checked into the hotel, they said, the price offered on the website was just the booking fee. And, they charged me $50 more per night in addition to what it said during booking. I found that extremely confusing and irritating. Other than that, hotel was good if you prefer gambling.
Awesome!! Great room! Theyre beautifully updated, the rain shower head was to die for!We went for my daughters 21st b-day, it was an amazing vacation! And oh em GEE, the restaurant has the best jam in the whole world! Something berry, I crave it! I will go back and stay there again!Viva Las Vegas!
Friendly people...friendly video poker machines also....good food...fast service. Go here!
Very historic place, great old vibe, what vegas should feel like.
Fremont East was branded as “The hip new downtown entertainment district in Las Vegas.” The shiny new district includes a multitude of restaurants, nightclubs and a visually unique Las Vegas experience! streets cape beautification project components included a new brand identity for Fremont East, district identity markers, a neon gateway and larger than life street median sculptures - which are all featured in Prada’s newest fall campaign.
Positive: It was perfect for us Negative: No loved everything
