Will be my go to from now on when in Vegas. Small casino, lots of newer games, but do miss the older ones.Food is fairly priced and tasty, although the club sandwich my husband and I got was missing the ham, it was still good. Would be nice to have a place for breakfast.Plenty of beverage servers.Close to Fremont without all the noise and craziness.Staff is her friendly.Room was clean. Will ask for a room on the other side away from 1st at next time. All in in all we had a great stay.

Enjoyed ourselves... Had a good time... Waitress could have come around to bit more only got one drink... Other than that it was great... Won a little, lost a little, went home even...

I love this place! Its clean, comfortable, easy parking and access from the highway. I like the fact that its not right on Fremont Street, which means its quiet at night. And all rooms have refrigerators, which is important to me.

My only complaint was that there was nowhere to get good coffee. There was no coffee in the room and no coffee shop in the hotel. We did get coffee at one of the bars but we spent an abundant amount of time finding a place to get coffee.

Long night in Vegas? Oxtail is a must! So delicious and fulfilling portions. Great way to revive! 12$ Great customer service. It is usually long lines, but well worth the wait. Hours have changed due to current situation. Stay safe! 2020

If you want to be downtown Las Vegas this is a very good choice. It’s in a good location only a couple of blocks from Fremont Street.

Not the hotel and casino so much but the Market Street Cafe inside the hotel. This place has some of the best prime rib at a nice price. If I had anything to say in regards to an improvement opportunity I would say upgrade the silverware. Its beat up and the fact that it doesnt shine highlights this. I know it may seem nitpicky but I like everything else. Even this last time I went, there was no line.

Pool is closed, but that was not mentioned. A dirty washcloth was on the dresser in the room. They are doing a great job being safe and sanitary, though. Check in was a hassle; I had to check out and check back in for my second night.

A surprisingly great place to stay in Las Vegas. Located downtown and an easy walk to walk downtown sights. Affordable with great service and access to good food. Walk across the bridge to the Main St. Hotel and eat at the 777 restaurant for a great time at great prices. Both hotels feature Hawaiian decor.

I took a quick walk from Main Street to California, and they are conveniently a stroll away from each other.People were enjoying themselves - having a great time. I couldnt try every restaurant between the two casinos, but I will try them before I leave this week.

The casino atmosphere is relaxing and friendly workers. The restaurants have good local (Hawaii) food. And the benefits fom the players club are awesome.

A nice classic Vegas hotel and casino. They really upgraded the place. A nice bright atmosphere, and not an old smoke filled room smell. Worth going to.

I didnt stay at this hotel but it seemed very much old Vegas to me. With hints of Hawaii it was really nice. Far from the strip and surroundings not much to see or do at all but was very neat to see a smaller scale casino.

Dining options are very few and hours are too limited. They close too early. Who wants ice cream first thing in am? Most of us want it After Lunch or After Dinner.

Ate at the Market Street Cafe and was pleasantly surprised. Good food and nice portions. Social distancing was definitely observed. Tables were spread out and servers had on masks and gloves. Will be back to try other items from the menu.

California hotel: This is our first time here at California hotel. We stayed one night. The room looked clean, cozy and modern with nice decorations and furniture. The bed was comfy and clean as well. We stayed on the third floor and there was not much to see from the patio so I don’t have much to say about that. The hotel was a block away from the neon light and other attractions. Affordable stay.

The cafe was a disappointment today. This cafe used to be my favorite place to eat that reminded me of Oahu. The prime rib was served at room temperature and the stew special was served dried!! Top that off the hostess was quick to take my order without giving a minute to settle. The service was average after requesting for water and napkins several times.

Tonight my family and i had dinner at the cafe located down stair . We have eaten in there cafe a bunch of times and the food was excellent but tonight we were very disappointed the service was horrible and the food was terrible. I ordered fried saimen and the noodles were gooie and they seem to have way to much greese on them......very sad

California Hotel & Casino has two buildings the West and East towers; one of the oldest hotels in downtown LV. This hotel is a favorite among Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. Majority of the hotel goers were old (50s, 60s and above) and with few young kids. Theyre located just a block from Fremont Plaza. Staff were friendly, accommodating and very professional.Their Casino is relatively moderately small in size in comparison to other huge casinos around. I like the hotels amenities such as the gym and 5 ft pool which were good enough to get a good workout and swim both located on the West tower. I stayed in a Queen size two bedroom on the East tower bldg and it has a 60 inch LG flat screen tv, dresser, wardrobe and comfortable clean sheets; bathroom was modern albeit small, the proximity distance of the door to the toilet was so close you can barely shut the door without going IN first or else youll get hit (kinda annoying!). Bedroom suites atmosphere was relaxing and odor free. Carpets color combo was grey charcoal with dark spiral art design. The hotel have restaurants available such as the Redwood Stake house and Market Street Cafe. Both have good and flavorful food. Prices were inexpensive compared to other expensive hotels around downtown. They charge a resort fee for the pools, gym and wifi (1mbps download and upload) access. Parking (Self-park and Valet) was relatively easy access on Ogden and Stewart aves. Overall, I had a good experience and enjoyed my stay in this hotel. I definitely recommend this hotel.

We walked around and came to the California Hotel so we decided to eat breakfast here. We walked inside and the area was great. We then went to eat and the food was fresh and hot and it was down to earth breakfast, nothing too fancy, just real food and fruit. They had a buffet so you could get Eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, biscuits, gravy, hashbrowns, pancakes, peaches, pears, dates, cottage cheese, watermelon, Cream cheese danish, muffins, pudding, and cereal. The cups were classic Pepsi from back in the 80s. Very cool place...

Positive: The room was very clean. Negative: My room was located near a train and it was quite annoying to hear all night so I didnt rest very well. Also when I called to the front desk the person that answered the phone made a rude remark. I wont be back to this hotel.

Im from California so I couldnt appreciate the Hawaiiam theme. Oh well remodel with even a fancy glass. Nice and airy just a quick visit but found Ethel M inside.

Service was just. First night Had to ask for extra towels. Next night after a late night out we found our room untouch. Decent size for price but tiny bathrooms. Had room service, food was good and at Main Street Cafe buffet.

We stayed here for few nights and really loved it here. It was really affordable and we would have paid more to stay here because it was so nice! The hotel was clean and modern. We brought our two younger children and I felt the hotel was kid friendly! Every staff member we came into contact with was super friendly. They have a breakfast buffet for only $6.25 and the food was good! The only complaint I can make was we had a noisy rattling air conditioner but everything else was wonderful! Thank you for a wonderful stay California Hotel! We will be back!

Positive: Cheap price for the room, free parking, and walking distance to Fremont Experience. Negative: Pool and fitness center were closed due to Covid-19 yet hotel still charges a resort fee. All the restaurants in the hotel are closed as well except for one.

Its the best of old downtown you always can get drinks faster

Not a bad place but avoid room 2028. My wife was having a hard time understanding the woman at check in and the woman had a quick glint of anger about it (my guess). The rooms have been recently remodeled and are nice except... the window wasnt closed and had ancient/weathered duck tape over the crack. If you enjoy the sounds of I-515 below or the 24/7 sound of construction across the street then ask for room 2028. My guess is they give that room to anyone who complains or asks too many questions.On the plus side, she played a $20 in penny slots and won $75. That paid for the room.

Classic Vegas, Good value blackjack friendly vibe. Never eaten here though, might well try it next time. Played a little Bartop VP, enjoyed it a lot. Bartender was cool. Will go back when things return to normal.

I come to Vegas for work 2 times per year and normally stay at a different location. I thought I would try this one out. First impression was good. The front desk staff were friendly and professional. Jasmine was awesome! I got to the room and noticed it had not been cleaned property. The linens had been to my relief. The mattress was comfortable. Overall my stay waa pleasant. The room was quite. I would stay here again

Awesome awesome awesome! The whole California Hotel & casino experience was absolutely what I thought it would be! I always have a blast at the old Las Vegas area. Everything was within walking distance perfect location. Thank you to the wonderful staff! Definitely going back and will recommend to all!

Everything had a touch of Hawaiian theme, which surprised us a little, in a good way:) The staff were helpful, the room was immaculate and my family and I really loved the Hawaiian style food at the restaurant.

This is where I gamble most of the time and Win sometimes also good food choices!!

I really really liked this place. Its off Fremont Street downtown but only by a block so super easy walk and worth it if youre looking for a super clean, super friendly casino. Beware its not very lively, and even if youre playing craps and hitting it big it doesnt tend to get very loud or exciting in there but sometimes thats perfectly ok. By the way, if you like craps this is a great place for it as they are famous for their long rolls, they even have an entire trophy case dedicated to the crazy amount of long rolls people did there. And one last thing: its VERY POPULAR WITH HAWAIIANS!! They have some deals with flights from the islands so when you look around and notice everyone looks similar, thats why.

I stayed here in August, 2017. Beautiful refurbished rooms with large comfy beds. Great location downtown. Outstanding staff, service, gaming, restaurants. Very reasonably priced in every aspect as are all Boyd Hotels. I go to Vegas often and always stay at a Boyd Hotel. Have for the last 17 years!

Nice quiet room. Convenient ice machine. No comfortable chair to watch television in the room. Escalator often out of order. Nice, calm, casino with very little smoke smell...even smoking was permissible in most of the casino. We will probably be back.

It is not the fanciest hotel but I quite like it. Parking is great and Im able to get from my room to my vehicle in 90 seconds without rushing. Housekeeping and the bell desk are also excellent.

One of the nicer, not talked about hotels downtown, so close to Fremont Street. Weekday prices are great (not sure about weekends) and self parking is free and easy. The resort fee is lower than most which is a huge plus. Very nice rooms. Clean and modern. Recommend.

We did not stay here but I spent almost all of my gambling time here. I lost almost $400 at the hotel but it was fun and lasted over a period of 3 days. Staff are EXTREMELY nice and will take the time to explain the rules of the game today. The environment is very family friendly and I love the fact the hotel takes pride in being the 9th Island of Hawaii. I am not from Hawaii but I do love the friendly atmosphere.A++, I highly recommend if you want to play in a relax atmosphere to have fun and enjoy the time.

Last time I had visited was seven years ago and wow what a difference the renovation made... bright casino, clean and modern casino restrooms and the guest rooms are gorgeous! Suite (photos shared) 2308 was beautiful, spacious and close to the elevator and couldnt hear any hallway noise (there was a great group of class reunion folks gathered in the next suite and we couldnt even hear them once our door closed). Same great service and friendly staff from valet and reception to restaurant and casino dealers. I felt safe during my 3 day/2 night stay whether I was with my husband or with my female friends, especially during the early hours of morning. Would love to visit again and wont wait another seven years.

We stayed here June of 2017. It was my first time here and it was recently renovated. The rooms were nicely done and had shower stalls rather than bath tubs. I much prefer the shower setup. We asked for a room close to the elevator and got what we wanted. Not much of a view other than the water supply company.The location was just fine for us. It was a close walk to the Fremont street experience and the other casinos and shops. There is no buffet here but a short walk to the Main Street fixes that. I will also add that the Cal has a very good steakhouse called the Redwood Restaurant. We had the prime rib and bone-in rib eye steak. The cuts are huge and overly generous with the flavor spot on. Two thumbs up to this restaurant as we were pleasantly surprised! The service was great as one would expect and considering the total environment a spectacular deal. Definitely WORTH IT! Please give it a try.The hotel has shuttles available to take you to specific areas such as Sams Town and even the strip (drop off across Ceasars Palace.) This service will save you a bunch of money if youre on a tight budget.Overall a nice, enjoyable stay. Wouldve been better if we won a little at the casino...

Good place to stay if you are on a budget. Their restaurant has a pretty good ox tail soup. A good number of tables fir card players and roulettes, majority of the slot machines though are a bit outdated but still loved by the patrons of the casino. Staff are excellent in the casino, the hotel and the restaurants.
