As good as rest areas get. Old Abe looks a bit cranky, though. (P.S. Theres a section of the Lincoln Highway that still has its original pavement further east, in Ohio or something. Its worth checking out.)
First saw the Lincoln Memorial Monument at the age of 8 and have never lost my love of the monument or the site. Highway 80 is not quite the exciting route across much of America, and especially not as it enters Wyoming. But as you approach this site, the land begins to rise, rock formations begin to appear, pines and other mountainous growth begin to dot the landscape, and by the time you see the Lincoln Memorial you have already been climbing for some time. What I love about this site is its sense of isolation, an inspiring sense of solitude, if you take the time to feel it. Walking to the upper parking areas (leftward if youre facing the entrance to the building) where picnic tables are sparsely settled, is an intriguing area of rock and tree and walking possibilities. Unfortunately, most of us just use the site for a brief rest, a trip to the bathroom facilities, or to gaze at the interesting offerings inside, but if you have the time, plan to spend a few hours there having a peaceful meal and walking about. It might prove to be one of the best spontaneous undertakings of your travels!
It was snowing and bitterly cold when we stopped in for a brief shelter from the storm. So much wonderfully detailed history organized nicely with a large indoor area for viewing the outdoor surroundings and wildlife. Beautiful country perfect for memorable photos!
Best rest area Ive been to. Very clean, big and potable water on site. No overnight parking, but drive a mile up happy jack road and theres tons of dispersed camping to park and sleep.
I really love stopping here with the wife and our dogs. The historic significance of this is amazing and a real big plus for a rest stop. The restrooms are very clean every time we travel and that is at least once a month. I would definitely recommend stopping by not only as a rest stop, but for the history.
Beautiful monument. Nice rest stop and info center. Very clean and nice views.
Great pit stop. One of the better rest areas. Really liked the historical info and parking.
Awesome rest area! Lots of cool informative displays and clean restrooms!
This is at a rest stop, fun stop to stretch the legs. Kids thought the statue was a bit creepy, compared to the Lincoln Memorial in DC (which is amazing!)
Really great place and so much information written on various interesting boards. The Visitor Center is also filled with a lot of informative stuff displayed everywhere. They have a well equipped screen section too inside. The Lincoln statue is placed on a huge tall rocks structure. Restrooms are very clean and overall this is a great place to stop for a while or have your packed lunch and then start driving with a fresh mind !
Outstanding, very clean rest stop. And I love the Lincoln monument! And I had to take some pictures before its knocked down.
Real nice Memorial. It does need to be worked on. However.
Nice and clean rest area. Wonderful view of I-80...
Nice rest area! Wonderful being able to have a stop with native vegetation and maintained so well. Has water hydrant outdoors if you need one and picnic shelters.
Beautiful location, very clean facility with interesting history and facts on display. And of course the Abe memorial.
Nice little stop. The bathrooms were decent. Had maps & a little movie theater.
Its an interesting monument at a rest area in Wyoming. Good stop to stretch your legs and take the pets for a stroll.
I remember this stop as my family traveled from Oregon to Tennessee. That was probably forty-five to fifty years ago. It was clean and a beautiful site to see. Would love to see it again.
A good place to take a good ten minute breach and stretch and see interesting sculpture of Abraham Lincoln. As a bonus they have clean restrooms.
Great visitor center, awesome sight to see. Definitely worth a 20 minute escapade
Outstanding place to go with my 12 year old son. Learned a lot and got some good pictures
This was a great pit stop! Clean bathrooms, nice views, informative signs throughout the small museum area. Unfortunately the movie wasnt playing when we stopped in (mid November). My kids loved running around inside and out. I enjoyed reading a bit of history!
We loved it. Drove past so many times and finally stopped. Its so worth the stop. Its history. We learned a lot.
Loved it havent been here since I was a kid many many years ago!
This place was awesome and very cool place to stop and take a break. If your coming through stop and take a view its awesome
Very nice view and facilities. Its a nice place to take a break from your long drive. Usually cool on the evenings. Nice monument.
Its a rest stop / Visitor Center thats well worth the stop! Great photo opportunity to have old Honest Abe wit the kids clean restrooms and staff was informative. The view from the observation deck inside was really nice. NO WIFI! All in all worth the stop.
A memorial to commemorate getting through the highest point of the pass. I love finding pieces of history like this.
The Lincoln Monument is a bust of Abraham Lincoln by Robert Russin, 12 ¹⁄₂ feet high and resting on a 30-foot-tall granite pedestal, at the Summit Rest Area on Interstate 80 east of Laramie, Wyoming. Russin originally erected the sculpture in 1959 nearby on Sherman Hill, overlooking the old U.S. Highway 30.
Its easy to get to right off of the highway at a rest stop so that was nice.
My favorite aspect of this rest area is the access to very scenic hiking trails. Its a treat to get out and stretch your legs and breath in the fresh mountain air! The information center is like a mini museum. Weve been here before and will definitely be back the next time we travel west.
Beautiful stop with great views and history
I enjoyed reading the informational displays about Wyoming at this rest stop.
Beautiful spot breathtaking view of the valley. Highest point on RT80
I love it !!! The view its amazing and everyone was so nice. Bathroom super clean and they have truck parking !!! A++++
Very worthwhile stop . some good photo opps . nice statue of Lincoln and a number of picnic shelters .
Great place to stretch, walk around, take in beautiful scenery and get a history lesson.
Highest point on interstate 80. Great welcome center with plenty of RV parking. Spectacular views.
Awesome sights at the highest point on I-80
Best rest stop Ive ever been, and Ive been all over US. Inside bathrooms, gorgeous decor & visual learning plaques inside, fabulous all-glass vista viewing room, nice picnic table area outside, giant Lincoln statue, purple heart trail plaque on rock, and plenty of space to park if you have an RV. Great recommendation for quick stop.
This is an interesting historical place to visit. Granted is was freezing when we stopped by but it was on our Map Wantvto Visit list, so we did, glad we did.
AWESOME HISTORICAL SITE TO VISIT
Fun place to stop and bring the kids. Plenty of semi truck parking in the lower lot. Vehicle parking closer to the building. Penny squishing machine inside the building, a few of the local animals on display, you can dress up as a prisoner with a Wanted Dead or Alive sign for photos inside. Lots of information about the local wildlife and vegetation. History about the settlements and economy. Theres a help center with someone on site, drinking fountains and and clean restrooms.
Cool little rest stop for you and the dogs to take a walk.
The place was nice, clean and very informative.
Great roadside stop. Lots of historical information of the surrounding area. Nice monument, and space to stop.
Nice rest area with Lincoln memorial statue and amazing view in Wyoming!
Very nice but needs some repairs for our visiting motorists we need to show our Wyoming pride !!
Amazing sight in the middle of no where. If youre driving through Wyoming on I-80. Stop, stretch you legs and take a look.
It was clean and informative. If you arent there for the restrooms then its about a 20 minute investment
Cool little stop off the highway
Nice and clean rest area. The view from the rest area is really beautiful around sunset. You can get various choices of travel information pamphlets there for free.
The restrooms were very clean. The literature provided about the state and area was very informative. Roads are clearly marked, just watch for the construction currently happening on the bridge at the exit.
Lots of snow when passing by Wyoming. So beautiful way to memorize President Lincoln.
Very cool and also a rest stop.
Never knew this was here. Glad my friend showed it to me. Awesome place to see
Great little place to stop with the kids. Got to stretch our legs.
The monument, and several others, are beautiful! The rest stop is well cared for, clean and safe. I enjoy stopping here when I pass through. Its a nice little stop.
Praise the Lord thank you Christ Jesus for President Abraham Lincoln.
Wonderful views and some interesting history here
Well worth a visit
Good rest area, with a big dose of history tossed it. Watch for road construction!
Just told FaceBook Land how Proud I was at that MomentTake your pick...each pick has a Special Reason it IS Beautiful
Relaxing place to stop. Great scenery, interesting and informative.
What a great history lesson. Must go inside to see the museum.
Nice view. Good place for a quick stop for truckers to check brakes and inspect your vehicle before hitting the down hill. The view is very pleasant.
Nice location for taking a break from the road.
What a fun little surprise crossing Wyoming. The little center there was staffed by a very nice Gentleman. It was a great break, to stop and get a little history, a very nice change of pace while traveling.
Super fun place to learn some history and understand the exciting parks of Wyoming.
Great place to just stop and rest. The information booth was close, which was a disappointment.
Fresh cleaned restroom was excellent.
Everyone should see it. Had an amazing trip out west with family
Unique rest area in the scenic foothills of Wyoming. Check out the statue of our 17th President, Barack Obama or is it Abraham Lincoln ?? I dont remember. I got a lot of wheeling and dealing going on. And these reviews dont write themselves.
Traditional stool full of information about the Lincokn Memorial, the highway, and a nice folks to answer questions. Lots of free pamphlets and maps as well. Restrooms!
Good spot to chill for a bit has clean restrooms and a statue on the outside
Beautiful place lots of semi parking great place to walk around and explore...
Clean and plenty of parking and inside very informative. Even have a book swap.
Love History and this was so cool!
A very nice rest stop with quite a lot to look at. Theres the giant, bronze bust of Abraham Lincoln, of course. But there is also a short walking path with information about local Wyoming Flora and Fauna. The visitors center has additional areas info and a broad band of Windows that looks out over the area. Ab great place to weather out a storm when youre on the road. Also, a small lending library actually encourages you to take and keep a book you might like, thanks to the Albany County Library in Laramie.
A nice little rest area to stretch your legs and visit history. Enjoyed it.
Great views, fun to visit, and lots of great info about the state, wildlife, and geography. The bathrooms are clean and its a nice place to stop to picnic. There is plenty of space for not just cars, but RVs and semis, too.
Such a beautiful place to stop. Especially for being a rest area.
Interesting stop for a quick visit. Right off the interstate 80. Good photo op
The view is beautiful and the large bust statue is even more grand up close than it looked from the highway. There are campsites available. The bathrooms needed cleaned and TP and paper towels needed refilled. Overall a good quick stop along the road to take a quick hike and stretch your legs.
There are TWO Pokemon gyms here and one pokestop. Stopped here for a rest on our cross county road trip. Theres an informative video in side And the beautiful monument outside. Must stop if youre passing by!
Good place to wait out a hail storm
Amazing views!!! A must see stop for everyone
We stopped to see Abe. But its a nice rest stop and the little museum-type area is loaded with history and cool photo ops!Fun fact: This stretch of I80 is also known as the Lincoln Memorial Hwy and this neat area is its highest point.
Wonderful place to take the family.
