The lake is beautiful, the sand by the water itself is alright. The docks are always fun to relax on, but theres always people who call the police to shoo you away- even when there are no boats about. Youre better off making the trip to sunnyside, or enjoying the lake from someone who lives on it.

Has an easy boat launch with a couple docks and slips. Plenty of parking for both boats and cars. Can get a little ghetto sometimes in the summer at the park section but if your taking your boat out this is a great spot to launch from .

The park has a couple boat launches, picnic area, play place and swimming section. Its always busy on nice days. Get there early if its sunny or youll be parking on the street.

Tiny park with a huge view. Even though it was way too cool for me to even think about swimming, there were lifeguards on duty. At the end of one pier a man sat fishing, and boats were occasionally launching. It was a calm, cloudy and peaceful day.

Great local spot for small and medium boating add see ports. Speed higher on weekends. One traffic is okay because island provides a blind spot. Nice shallow 5 mph cove as well, they swim Safety- off boat

Good place to take the family on the boat and tow. Boat launch was busy but manageable. Park is nice but small so not so friendly when it comes to social distancing. Police were onsite most of the day.

Its boating area is easy to navigate, has lots of places to picnic and has a mini mart within walking distance. The road construction to the lake is a pain, but once your at the lake you dont even remember its there. A great place to hang with friends and family!

Easy access (when not being detoured for road repairs). Good boat launch. Took two stars away for swimmers in the boat launch area, a serious and well documented problem (that I personally experienced).

Awesome to swim at. Has playground, and picnic tables. You dont have to pay to swim, like the dumb rich area places. Every race, age, gender is welcome, and its super fun & full of energy. Me & my kids had a blast

A great place to go fishing, kayaking or tubing/skiing with family. It gets crowded around noon on a beautiful day, but we love it. A bonus is watching the bald eagles fly directly above, truly amazing.

Great place for swimming! I recommen going there week days because on weekends is packed!

The beach itself was amazing. Playground equipment and facilities were adequate. The only glaring issue was lack that of cleaning, maintenance and enforcement of laws not taking place. People were smoking, drinking and defacing property during normal hours. Restrooms hadnt been cleaned it what seemed to be days. Toilets missing parts, graffiti everywhere. Great park with potential, but a lack of stewardship caused it to be less than desirable.

Really enjoyed it with my friends an family. Kids had lots of fun. Recommend it to anyone. Really nice.

Honestly seemed great from first presentation, after swimming I realized the entire shoreline was lined with toilet paper. Hoping it wasnt from a boater emptying sewage into the water. Also smokers at the beach just smoke where everyone is trying to enjoy fresh air with the fam. Sadly disappointing. Wont be back.

Such a fun place to go on a hot summer day. Not to mention its a chill environment and everyone seems to demonstrate common courtesy. Will definitely be coming back in the future!

Absolutely no boat launching or loading etiquette from most boat owners...I notice a lot of kids sitting on trailers that definitely werent theirs....Kids jumping off the dock in front of in coming boats.. Ill definitely stick with the lakes I usually go to with boat owners with more experience... And away from kids who were raised by irresponsible parents that let them run around and do whatever..

I always come to american lake to clear my head and take my son there to play too its a great park. A year ago i had my birthday party at this lake its just so peaceful and relaxing!

A nice park with a sizable beach, an area to put a boat on the water, and a playground. I do have issues with getting in and out of the parking lot. Its fairly narrow and easy to create bottlenecks due to traffic. But overall, quite good.

Fun lake very pretty, but fishing from docks might be a little difficult due to not being allowed to. But still a great spot for the family or boating. A+ boat ramp and dock.

Great lake about 5 mls from north to south and about 1 mile east to west.

Wonderful park to swim in! I go throughout the winter and summer. The beach is a bit rocky, but there is a nice grassy null. In the summer theres a lifeguard on duty and a rope blocking off a safe swim section. Winter is peaceful and empty if youre looking for a good place to take a cold dip. Highly recommend this park!

Cute little park. Has a nice lake with clear water, a grassy hill with shady areas under the trees and a great view of the lake. Also has a boat launch and lots people kayaking. There is a playground for kids with swings. Has some stone picnic tables. Has a dock to jump off into the water.

Love the playground hair grass is great. Very accessible to the lake. Not a lot of Transit people. A couple opinionated old men sitting at the picnic table LOL but lovely place..

The good: unbelievable views of Mt. Rainier over the lake. Easy access for kayak launch, so you dont have to use the boat launch next door and deal with the parking there. Lots of space. Nice atmosphere.The bad: Gets pretty packed on any nice day. If youre kayaking, the boats getting their last kicks before returning to the boat launch next door leave some heavy wake.The ugly: Not much ugly. Theres a little broken glass and dangerous debris on the beach in the swimming area, but its not bad at all.

Great spot for the kids to swim. Show up early on a hot summer day, afternoons that are 80+ degrees can be packed and you can run into parking issues.

An absolutely beautiful park! As a veteran, its easy to forget the beauty of the country we served when dealing with health issues.American Lake suits at the entrance to the VA clinics just down the street. Its a wonderful view to unwind after a Drs appointment.

Great place to chill on water with friends & family!

Had a blast up here with friends and family. Only downfall was the bathrooms were locked so I had to go all the way to the am/pm gas station to use the bathroom. Its about a 7 min drive away.

Good place to swim and spend time with friends and family. Parking sucks only because they isnt enough parking on the hot days. Dog are aloud to be there but they cant go in the water. I would bring chair or blanket to sit in the grass if u want shade. PS they have lifeguard there too.

We went boating and fishing at American Lake Park the lake is so beautiful and so is the scenery. And there are fish in the lake we caught our fish and then we went home and ate them. Yum yum yum looking for a fun-filled and sunny day to catch fish go to American Lake, Lakewood Washington

Its beautiful at this park for sure. The swimming area is good for families and the boat launch is nice... However, the lack of public fishing access and overzealous city cops make this a very unfriendly place for boaters and fishermen who dont want to spend $15 every time they want to use a PUBLICLY FUNDED property. Any time I go out there Im risking having to deal with blatant revenuers.So if youre there for the park, great. But the boat launch is tailored specifically to people with money to burn. And designed to keep people looking for free public access out. Its a shame and the city should be embarrassed.

The Park it self is beautiful, my experience was darkened by a pitbull charging towards my five year old grandson missing only by inches and jumped in water were other kids were. No owner in site for a minute then she couldnt control the dog, the dog was not under control for ten minutes that seemed like a hour, they need a life guard and stricker and inforced laws for negligent owners of animals.

I Love this Lake/Park!!!Although it has an extremely small parking lot available for the number of visitors that are attracted here. It is a Great Place to take small children in the summer heat to have a swim or play in the park. Restrooms near the playground.Limited tables available for the population it attracts as well, but most of the locals know that in advance and bring their own chairs and supplies.This location also has a separate boat launch area as well as separate parking for those out on their boats.Police are always in the park some place, so not much drama has gone on in the times I have visited this location.

It was a nice park but I went there to go kayaking and there is just the boat launch and separate beach area. There is NO information regarding kayaking unloading, loading of kayaks...someone mentioned a beach that you could use to launch from but there is no information online about that or signs pointing to that. The authorities said park up the hill on the other side near the park then carry your kayaks and equipment down the hill to the launch area( be careful not to get in the way of the boats loading/unloading). I will be better prepared for next time. Its a bit steep and carrying 3 kayaks uphill is no fun...if anyone has info that is a better access to the lake please let me know.

We put MR. BASS BOAT in the water first time since purchasing it from Nixon Marine Boat Sales in Tacoma.Beautiful March Day on American Lake. This Park is so nice. Old Timers launch early AM. Avoid weekends.

Its a popular free swimming hole for kids, teens and adults. Good shallow beach with some sand. Bathrooms, drinking fountains good playground equipment, sheltered picnic area, large parking lot, boat launch. A few marijuana smokers sometimes so be aware you will need to be forgiving of the smell, is what it is in WA. Occasional on duty life guards during summer. Packed on hot weekends. Just wish it had a rinsing station.

American lake is the stuff. I grew up in Tacoma and it has always been the nicest local lake. Its huge, spring fed, lots of fish, masses of room for all boater to still leave room for trolling boats. Two parks and also beautiful scenery. Plus some really cool local deli stores with some things to see

Only reason i somewhat enjoy the summer months is,being able to go swimming at American Lake! My last visit i wasnt feeling very well but i enjoyed watching my kids enjoy themselves in the water! Nice place to visit when its hot!!!
