Used to be a good place to take kids to. But since city decided to tear it down cause the home owners wanted something done with it. The city caved in tore it down and now nothing for kids to do there.
Always a treat to drive here with my daughter. She adores this place and, unless the weather is foul, theres always others here to play with. Located across the street from the Art Museum, theres good fun for adults and kids alike. Entire Fort is made of wood but kept very good care of so no real worry for splinters and its located on the corner of a not-so-busy street so you dont have to worry about loud cars or too much traffic. Would recommend this place to anyone looking to wear their kids out! :)
Pretty awesome place to let the little ones burn off some road trip energy. It was only about 4 minutes off i40. It had ample parking and was not busy at all on a Friday around 11 am.Its easy to miss, so be sure to follow the Google maps directions. The very large play area is made almost entirely of wood, so the surface wont burn your kids skin in summer like a metallic material might. But my boring dad review doesnt really matter nor does it help you in your decision of whether or not to visit, so I asked the subject matter expert. When my 7 year old monkey of a daughter was asked if she liked the park, she responded, nope. I *loved* it.
Fun, all wood playground with some unique features. There is not a lot of shade, so be prepared with hats, waters and sunscreen in the warmer months. They have recently added some picnic tables, and repainted some of the features. Plus - it has a great view! We did get a pretty nasty splinter during one visit, but my daughter has so much fun while we are there she barely cared!
Beautiful park! Ive visited this place since I was a kid. Its very peaceful, with great shade. Theres a wonderful view of the Sunsphere and Museum of Art. The park is maintained and very clean. The bright murals makes this place seem magical for all of the kids! Only downfall is there are no bathrooms, although there is a Porta Potty, right out front. Its really a great place to spend faimly time as well. The picnic tables are nice for bringing a small lunch to eat before playing.
Fort Kid is very nostalgic for me as I used to play here 25 years ago. My daughter loves this playground as much as I do and because of both of those facts my rating is probably higher than it should be. In short Fort Kid probably hasnt been upgraded or seriously repaired in over two decades. The wood is splintered and nails are sticking out. It doesnt seem like a safe park but I love it either in spite of or because of this. This park truly feels like a relic of the parks of the 80s and 90s where it was about having fun over safety. So just make sure your kids wear shoes and have Band-Aids ready.
This place is a great place for kids as a small group to play cowboys and Indians or pirates on the seven seas! Love it!
We love these parks. We used to have two in our area but they were torn down to make room for more modern equipment. This is well maintained and fenced in nicely. We hope to go back if we come to Knoxville again!
Please, if the city is going to keep maintaining this playground, install water fountains and bathrooms. It is not convenient to walk all the way to the Worlds Fair Park to find running water. Great playground, though.
Always a fun time! Glad it is still around for my child to enjoy like I did!
Sweet park lots to do. Was very slippery since it recently snowed and doesnt seem like sun hits it in winter. Kiddos had fun though.
My kids had a BLAST. There were so many things for them to climb and run on. We were there for hours, and they cried, not wanting to leave. It was amazing. Well definitely be going back.
Many years ago I helped put this park in and I love fort kid but it needs some maintenance.. We all need to get together and give it a makeover I would be more than willing to donate my time and labor..
On our trip to Tennessee we got to play in this massive fort! Its very well maintained and everyone we ran into was kind. Id recommend this place to another family especially if you want to visit the free history museum across the street.
Fantastic Park with a huge Fort ! What more could a kid want ?? Tall trees to provide shade from the sun and easy parking. What more could a parent want ??
Very good location for kids, we stopped midway on our roadtrip for a quick play area for kids.
If you need to read a review on wendys.... decent burgers decent prices. beats mcdonnalds I guess
Good park for kids and grandkids. Large spread of interesting climbing and playing structures.
This place was good for the kids but scary as well since there was a homeless man sleeping on one of the Castel parts
Awesome place for a toddler. Perfectly shaded for hot summer days. Definitely the best playground near downtown.
This playground has some really cool features. Ample 2 hour parking. And a picturesque setting!
Since a child this has always been my FAVORITE park. Now I bring my kids almost every week! Love watching them play where I shared so many memories!
Its a great area for a little fun.
Great playground with a great view of the city!
Love it. Have been 2 times now with my kids and Im so sad to hear the city is going to tear it down.
Probably the coolest playground in Knoxville, especially with where its located surrounded by plenty of attractions
What an awesome adventure. My grandson loves this park!!
Imagination dream. Childhood memories galore. We will miss this park very much.
This is a great park for kids, with great views of the sunsphere and the beautifully colored historic houses down town.
My son had a blast. Clean place well kept
Was a staple of my childhood. Cant wait for the city to make plans to renovate soon
The fort has been sanded so no more splinters!!
First time at the park. My nephews had a blast.
My boys and I use to go. Here all the time until someone notified the park that it needed more safety. Ughhhh. We loved it.
Wonderful playground area. Kids live it! Plenty of free 2 hour parking
I know my little loves it as much as I did when I was a child !
Adorable local park that is MUST for kids of all ages. Unfortunately many of the playground pieces have begun to show a significant amount of aging and are in need of repair; but overlooking this piece you can still find a nice selection of equipment to play on. This is the perfect pit stop prior to the art museum opening on a Sat morning!
Great place for little kids not so much for 7-10 years olds
Its a great park
Fun and has free dedicated parking.
Awesome place for the youngsters. Hope they find a way to keep it around!
Very cool park for kids up to 12
My lil girl loved it.
This was a great stop for some imaginative playtime and exercise.
Good, simple fun where imagination can take center-stage. My kids have been begging to go back every single day.
Very nice park for children to play.
Great place for kids.
Theyre in the process of tearing down this Knoxville landmark. So sad to see it go..
This is our favorite place to play in Knoxville. Theres so much room to run and hide, and lots of physically challenging obstacles. Also the playgrounds castle/fort appearance lends itself to some extremely imaginative play. We love having a place like this so close to home.
Nice park. Clean. Decent parking.
My girls love this place
Love the play area. Wish they had a restroom for the kids. It make it a lot easier.
Nice park. Fun. Big play area.
Great playground for kids!
This playground is the COOLEST, MOST AMAZING one we have EVER been to!!! Its a giant wooden castle with so many awesome features, and VERY well maintained!!!! My fiancé, son, and myself absolutely LOVE this place and try to go as often as we can!!! We HIGHLY recommend coming here!!! Even if there are a lot of people and kids here, this place is SOOOOO HUGE that you still have plenty of room and its not too crowded!!! I have never seen any playground NEARLY this cool!!!! BEST PLACE EVER FOR KIDS!!!!!
We came, we saw, we got splinters. A big, 2 inch, bloody splinter.
I love taking my youngest here
Kids had a blast
One of my favorite parks. I love the enclosed play area and the fact its wooden. Downside is no bathrooms
Clean playground with lots to do.
Huge wooden playground with a gate around the perimeter. The nooks and bridges are whimsical. Very convenient to Worlds Fair Park and the Knoxville Museum of Art (which is free with free parking too).
Ok, but way too hot in the summer. Metal slides and not much shade at all
A little older but really neat!! Lots of tunnels and a huge playground made from wood. 5 or so swings. Rock pebble ground, but my boy still had fun!
Looks cool but it was closed. Not sure why
Excellent wooden park with plenty of climbing, two slide (not wooden, of course), swings, and benches. Well maintained. There is a two hour parking limit, and I would avoid it on game day.
Very nice play area for kids.
Lots of room to run for the little ones.
Great park for all ages, but as of October 2018 it is closed for repairs.
Nice park to take kids. Picnic table, playground and nice sites nearby
Kids love it. Some shade. Lots of variety
Unique and fun. Best place for hide and seek or alligator.
Very nice park. Structures made of wood and the kids really liked it.
Love this place...kids can do regular playground stuff, but also great place for cowboys and indians with the fort style
Good place for kids to play
Im not a child, so I cannot fully rate the amount of fun it looks to run around, swing and slide on all the architecture I wish I could fit into. There seems to always be children here so it seems an easy way for your children to make friends!
My daughter always loved going here and now my grandson loves it as well !!
Fantastic park with lots of memories.
Love this park its a fun place to take the family
Awesome playground! Grandsons love it!
Park is all broken down. But I hear they are about to restore the park. Cant wait to see how it goes.
Thus far this is our favorite playground in Knoxville. Lots of seating and shade and tons for the kids to do. Close to a great chocolate shop, the Sun Sphere, and even another great playground in walking distance, not that youre likely to need it.
Older play structures in need of some repair and maintenance. Kids still had fun. Not clearly marked. The area is behind some neglected buildings with trash. The one positive note us that the port o potty was very clean.
Great place for kids to play, climb, and swing
It is awesome to me because the parents will think that their child or children is somewhere else and not in their eyesight because you will want to wander around the park because it is soooooooooo interesting. Well here is my post.
Great fun for the kids
Great place for kids to play
Shade is a need but it was a great place to run out some energy before heading to the next stop on our trip! This is a good find - age 3
I an my kids love fork kid. It is always nice an clean
