My sons and I stopped by to get a haircut at this unique barbershop. As we walked up, I fixed the American flag that was stuck to the flagpole as it flew in the rain (by the way, the flag should not be flying in the rain without cover). We walked up to the entrance and started to go inside when we were stopped at the door by one of the barbers. He said, “You have to have an appointment.” I apologized, and he responded rather rudely with, “We’ve got things going on in here!” He then shut the door in our faces and went back inside. At no time did I see any signage advertising “appointment only”, nor did I see a reason for the barber to be so rude to a few folks who wanted to get a haircut in a cool little barbershop. I suppose he has all the customers he needs. I certainly won’t get a haircut there in the future. Probably worth stopping for a photo, and that’s about it.
Very cool business on Clinton Hwy in Knoxville, TN. It is now a Barbershop. I think it has a history here in East Tennessee... We just moved nearby in Powell. The Airplane design is a real eye-catcher; I am telling you it got me to make a U-turn to check it out, very cool!cmilton111Google Guide9.28.2019
Cool old station with antique pumps. Great photo opportunity.
AFSPAs long-term challenge was to find a tenant who could conduct business inside a building shaped like an airplane, and who wouldnt mind answering questions from curious tourists, or gently disappointing people who stop to buy gas.So, referencing the above info it seems the barber John is the total opposite and wrong guy for the job.Stopped by yesterday to check it out and it seemed like the highlight of his life is rudely making sure that people need to understand this is a business! This is after I said I just came by to admire it. Youd think that he would appreciate the exposure and encourage people to get the word out on social media to help his business. Attitude does matter! If hed taken a few more seconds to evaluate me hed maybe noticed I could have used a haircut but Id never even give him a chance after that. The last review of the barbershop on his website from a week ago is also about his rudeness to a customer. So there you go, time to re-read the first paragraphs!
Cute place. Historical.
This is an amazing treasure. I stopped in for a haircut, what a treat. Well worth the stop, and very inexpensive haircut.
This place is awesome, I give this place at five star because of the originality behind its design. I am personally sold before even entering the building. I believe that anyone that puts this much effort into a design deserves to be rewarded for creativity.
How cool that someone had the gumption to make something so unique!
Cool piece of Knoxville history! Unique airplane gas station from the past.
Currently, this famous landmark is Johns Barber Shop, the first tenant is fifteen years. Once a gas station, now a new place to get a unique hair cut!
Awesome barber. Always satisfied.
Used to be a gas station a long time ago. Was Johns barber shop recently, but is up for lease as of 2/14/18.
