Loved this slice of history along the famous route 66.
Could have spent a while longer, everyone was friendly! Museum was good!
This Route 66 Museum and Visitor Center is located in Kingmans Historic District. It takes you on a journey of the development and travel on what is referred to as the Mother Road. A unique experience in the lives and hardships of the everyday pioneers and settlers who traveled this route in the search of a dream and a better life. A wonderful part of history told by stories, photographs and memrobilia...a must see!
Exception to masks but these workers were rude and said this wasn’t true, it’s right in the proclamation:b. For those who fall into the CDCs guidance for those who should not wear face coveringsdue to a medical or mental health condition or developmental disability.
Good place for meetings; great place for history buffs!
Neat place, the route 66 museum upstairs is wonderfull. Nice representation of dust bowl history. Also interesting display on a local photographer who helped make the area famous with his images. The price for entry to the museum is worth it because you also get the electric car museum, and the Mohave museum down the road, along with one other. All four 4 dollars.
I buy the Route Magazine here and tasty Route 66 Rootbeer
I have to tell you I am really glad my family took this historic Route 66 detour on our way to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas! We could have saved 40 minutes by staying on the interstate but it was well worth the detour! It is a beautiful ride and it has a few great historic stops along the way. The views on route 66 were beautiful, far better than the views from the interstate. I highly recommend yout take the road less traveled and see Historic Route 66!
Great historical background and displays.
The Route 66 Museum in Kingman, Arizona is located Andy Devine Avenue and shares space with the Kingman Visitor Centre in the historic Powerhouse building. Open hours are 9am to 5pm daily and entrance is $4 per adult, $3 per senior and free for those under 12 years of age.The entrance to the museum upstairs in the Powerhouse. Here you find 30-45 minutes worth of time exploring the chronological path of Americas Westward expansion and travel. There is interesting text information, maps, signs, posters and other artefacts related to travel which passed through this area of the country. We enjoyed the vehicle displays including a Schooner Wagon a Great Depression era pick-up truck and a 50s period family automobile. Downstairs, just before you exit the museum, there is a collection of electric powered vehicles which are really neat to look over as well.Overall, the Historic Route 66 Museum is a nice place to spend some time if you intend to visit some of the attractions in Kingman, Arizona. Wed be happy to stop here again.
Extremely friendly staff. Lots of neat stuff to see. Make sure you watch the movie (60 mins long) It gives lots of interesting history about various stops along 66.
Extremely questionable handling of history. This museum glorified colonial invasion of the West, the perseverance of white settlers and the great for some good times of the 50s. There was literally 1 paragraph that covered the multi-thousand year history of the native peoples of the area. When native tribes were mentioned, it was in relation to their hostility towards the white man. We were all shocked that this kind of bias still exists in a place that is so deeply rooted in indigenous history.
What a wonderful place, if you start your Route 66 trip in Kingman this is a must to visit..lots of info on the small things on Route 66, the movie is full of great info.
Neat place to visit. Cool display of some interesting vehicles and a nice array of souvenirs to choose from!
This place is great for any history buff or if you need to stretch your legs after a lot of driving.
A cool place to get information and gifts. Wonderful customer service!
What a surprise this place is! So much cool stuff to look at. I highly recommend checking it out if you are rolling through Kingman. I was there for a conference but it appears to be free of charge and has a nice gift shop. Sorry I didnt get pictures.
I was on a bus tour trip to the Grand canyon. This place was on the way. The lil mesum store was old timey and cute. This place was on the authentic original route 66 in Arizona. Glad we got pics here.
Great artifacts and information about Route 66. Maybe a bit one-sided on how Native Americans are portrayed. Worth a short visit and the small fee especially if youre curious about the history of Route 66
Super friendly staff and lots to see. Great spot for unique and handmade souvenirs!
A terrific little museum of Route 66 memorabilia. The items are displayed in mock storefronts or on vehicles loaded down for the Mother Road. A well done film is great for a quick sit down respite. The only thing I would have liked to see would be loaner wheelchairs for the mobility challenged.
A great visitor centre/museum. The old lady at the desk was lovely, such a pleasure to meet her.
Nice visitor center to stop in and look at the museum as well as a gift shop inside too
It was okay. Neat to see the history of the roadway. They also had a museum of electric cars.
This place was a great venue to visit. It had a really good gift shop including a Route 66 scrapbook layout that we saw no other place on Route 66. The museum was inexpensive (cash only) and Greg who volunteers there on Sundays was a wealth of information. The electric car museum was a nice bonus.
Great place to see a train up close and personal!! My grandson loved it!!!
It was ok. Didnt spend much time here but if you like to read interesting facts, then spend more time here and enjoy.
This is a good place to stop by for information pamphlets on things to do near by and in Arizona. There is also a Museum upstairs for a fee, but the visitors center and gift shop makes this place a good stopping place and resource for travels around the area. Across the street are some old locomotives which may be a good place to snap some pictures.
Very interesting, lots to see. Learning the history of the area in a fun and unique way.
Great place to stop by when going through Kingman. They have lots of Route 66 related souvenirs and there are great photo opportunities by the locomotive and around the area. Beautiful place all around! Can be busy at times, but a nice place to stop by, rest, and take memorable pictures! FIVE STARS!
Something new to explore.. kids loved from chino hills California to Arizona
Very nice staff with route 66 information!
Love the Power House. It reminds you that we live in a pretty interesting place. Lots of visitors come from all over.
Its a pretty well kept part of Kingmans history. Not much going on inside so dont plan a all day trip for it. Also be aware of the multiple tour buses and groups coming in everyday, they make it a bit of a tourist trap.
We enjoy taking our family and friends when they come into town. Everyone enjoys this museum, Mohave County Museum which is just across the street.
Nice stop in kingman, good prices and friendly staff
We visited the Powerhouse Visitor Center again on 5/5/2019 on the second leg of the Route 66 Fun Run. We met with Bob Boze Bell and had him autograph a copy of True West magazine. We also purchased some souvenirs in the gift shop. Fun place to see some Kingman history.
Enjoyed this place history here and lots to do. Great staff
Great place to stop to learn the history of Route 66 and Arizona. Visitors from all over the world have been here, as seen in the guest books.Theres also a electric car museum, displaying early and unusual models of electric-powered vehicles.Plenty of fun and interesting souvenirs are available, at reasonable prices, to remember your visit and give as gifts. And right across the street from the Powerhouse, you can spend some time in Locomotive Park, and see an actual steam locomotive, with an attached hopper car and old-style caboose. As an added bonus, just down the street is Mr. Dz Route 66 Diner, where you can stop to eat at an authentic 1950s style drive-in restaurant. They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, as well as delicious desserts, such as old fashioned root bear floats, ice cream sundaes, or banana splits. The 1950s decor alone is worth the visit, but the food is excellent and the staff friendly and helpful.
Very nice and meaningful place, buying some survivor it is worthy and the reception is so kind and warm feeling for the tourist. *clean restroom.
Great place to learn about Kingman and see the Museum. Its even close to Mr. Ds restaurant if your hungry and theres a real train sitting across the street kids can walk around on. Its a non-working train ofcourse.
This place is wonderful, if you like history, this the place to come to-- the entire top floor deals with the old west, then down stairs will take you to the electric cars room. This is really an eye opener. Enjoy-- open your mind.
Wonderful place to go in Kingman for information on local area.
We really enjoyed this museum. Learned things and were entertained. Not expensive and your entrance fee gets you into two other locations.
Nice place to visit but we arrived after 4 so there wasnt a lot of time to see much. It closes at 5 so last tour at 4.
Lots of history and information. Very friendly staff people. Great displays and easy to read. Great gift shop.
Fantastic place. Lots of visual information on local places of interest and beyond. Great gift items made by local artists from Kingman, Arizona as well as other areas of the state. Maps, books, and other materials available. Knowledgable staff.
Always enjoy stopping here. Not just to shop, but to learn a bit too. I bring my family and friends here when they are in town. Railroad park is across the street, & Mr Ds is caddy corner across the street. The Visitors Center & the Museum are must visit places when you come through Kingman. (Not to mention another dozen places)
I was so glad to browse in the gift shop,I found nice gifts in there
Nice they can reuse an old building like this and make it a tourist center that offers information and items for sale. Amazing how so many others flock to areas like this, and how the local businesses seem to not care. This place is very well laid out and worth the visit to see everything about route 66.
A really cool museum for the price. Learn all sorts of knowledge about Route 66!
Friendly informative staff. Small but interesting museum upstairs. Lots of free travel brochures available for Arizona.
Very helpful & friendly staff. Offered great advice. Great building.
What a great place to share the history and significance of this area. This museum has done a great job of showing all of the history and development and how westward migration affected it. This is a great place for kids as well as adults. The movie is well worth the time to watch it.
I love this place, its historically magnificent. The souvineers are awesome, not to mention free coffee. The woman that cleans at night is very helpful also, thats always a plus.
The staff here can help you regain your bearings and steer you in the right direction of you, like us, are tourists looking for interesting things to do for a few days.
The Mrs. & I stopped at the Desert Diamond Distillery and the Powerhouse Visitor Center driving back west along Route 66 from the Grand Canyon, June 2017 - the Visitor Center has a variety of exhibits which provided all kinds of info about this storied road and its history. A worthwhile spot to stop for sure!
Visited Kinsman, AZ in May 2016. Stopped by this place to inquire about the local attractions. The older gentleman gave me a friendly first-class service with tips where to visit during my drive to Grand Canyon via Route 66! Museum itself seemed attractive and well maintained. Will definitely come again!
Well worth the stop to see artifacts of historic Route 66. There is a $4 fee for the upstairs exhibit including the electric car display downstairs. Very well preserved artifacts of the Route 66. The fee also includes the admission to the Mojave Museum on Beale St. Further West you can see the Historic Kingman Train Station. It too is well maintained.
Pretty neat to see and can get state maps free
Boring, uninformative. Not much there other than a few exhibits and whole bunch of merchandise.
Really nice visitors center with loss of free brochures including maps. Interesting museum with local history. Clean restrooms too. Ample parking. Right across the street is a small park and a restaurant. Right on Route 66.
Wall to wall awesome - just a fantastic and incredible place!
Informative, fun, and nice gift shop. Friendly staff. Historical memorabilia.
Great exhibits. Kingman is a great place to visit if you are interested in history in the least.
Great place to kill time. Very friendly staff. Nice little gift shop. Very affordable
Small but beautiful town, very historic.
Neat electric cars. Didnt know how long ago started.
Every one needs to look into the past for every city you live in life was preserved for are young from fossils to older cars and homes.
Wonderful history items here.
Small place, but it is quaint. It have a small area of antique cars. It has most thing of route 66.
Cute little visitors center with lots of Route 66 souvenirs and items.
Very informative museum. Good value. Explains Burma!
I enjoy the displays, lots of information with detailed signs explaining what your looking at.
Rainy, cool day so we took in the museums. Interesting, we especially enjoyed the movie about each town along Route 66. For a small town it was a good museum.
This visitor center, located in kingman, Az is fantastic. Its a rather large building and offers many historic artifacts about Kingman and Route 66. We have traveled to Laughlin many times during the years and usually take road trips from there. We never really gave any thought to stopping off in Kingman and look around. We decided this last trip to check out this visitor center and I am glad we did.The visitor center has many things to offer. It has two levels. The first level has the two gift shops. One offers many items and memorabilia dealing with Route 66 and the other has items dealing with local area. I do believe the car museum is downstairs but must be access from the second floor. The second floor can be access from either stairs or an elevator. The second floor consist of the historic items and literature pertaining to the area. There is a fee to enter the museum but it is well worth it. As you walk through the museum you are led to several areas which eventually will lead you back down to the automotive museum, which houses many classic cars. It was great to see these classic cars and appreciate them. The staff themselves are friendly and informative. The associate who checked us in to the museum was great. He was great to talk to and told us about what else was happening around the area.Overall it was a great Visitor Center and had a great experience there. If you are visiting the Laughlin Area or passing through. This is a great place to stop especially if you have children.
Very cute museum. Worth the stop
Very inexpensive to go in. Awesome history of Route 66!! One really shouldnt miss if you are taking a trip on Route 66. Some nice gift shops inside too.
This place was interesting and they have alot of cool Rt 66 items..
Nice and informative stop on Route 66. Worth the $4 a person if you are interested in the area/route 66 history.
Well planned out and very informative.
Loved the rt 66 museum also cool gift shop.
Very nice museum telling you the complete story of traveling and transportation from the early days till the present. Theres also a small exhibition of electrical vehicles in the basement. The museum has a general shop with souvenirs and a dedicated shop wth Route 66 stuff. Very friendly and helpful staff .
2014 I have visited this museum on my ride along Route 66, of course. Route 66 was also known as Road of Desparation. After visiting this Museum you will know why. Some of the old photos are very touching. You can see the despair in the faces. Now Route 66 is a long museum across the U.S. for tourists. I can strongly recommend a visit.
Really neat history displays. Real cheap to get in...very well worth it
Really cool stuff to see for the whole family the historical artifacts are awesome. The staff was extremely nice.
Interesting history. Liked the little shops.
Hoover/Boulder Dam.....Worth the visit......Part curiosity, part engineering perfection, part gigantic achievement....Be prepared to walk....Parking is not very RV accommodating...More of a car trip....A slice of US history.....
The Visitor Center has a model train that wasnt operating. It appears the train track travels around much of the second level of the Center, and would be quite interesting to see it run. The Center has interesting photo displays, a 50s style diner and plenty of travel information.
Great place dont miss the basement
Good local history museum and admission covers two other museums in Kingman. Good gift shop with books to cover local area.
