Luana Kai

Not sure if it’s stress from COVID, but everyone is on edge. We have been scolded 3 times from the staff. Once for grilling chicken, we started at 7:30 and they kicked us out - we were not allowed to finish grilling. Closed at 8 on the dot. The other for a parking pass that they didn’t give us. And the third was a “did you read the rules” when we had a floaty in the pool. Others in the pool had similar. Not a bad location, nor place to stay. I just feel like they are on edge, at least I hope. Kinda a bummer. Not sure it’s the Aloha spirit you might think you will get. Also not one to share if it’s not good, but it’s been a bit rough. It’s stressful now, I totally agree, but it doesn’t mean you should accept visitors if you don’t want them. I’d appreciate a “no thanks” instead of poor treatment.

I truly enjoyed my stay here at Luana Kali. We stayed in a partial ocean view condo. The kitchen was fully stocked with silverware, dishes, cooking utensils and just about EVERYTHING you need. There is quiet time, and the surrounding area is quiet for the most part. There is a dishwasher, washer and dryer included with the unit. They included discount vouchers that we used which was very nice. The only thing I did not like was the shower. The floor appears dirty, and the shower head causes water to leak everywhere. Wish they would fix that. We will definitely be coming back here! Thank you Luana Kai!

Staff is very pleasant and helpful. My unit was a little dated but very clean. It went there for business, essential worker. If your vacationing your not going to spend too much time in the room anyways. Hawaii is too beautiful. Pricing was much better than big hotels. AC is extra if the unit is equipped.

Love the complex as it is next to the beach and there is access to it. There is also a swimming pool and lounge area. Friends and I stayed on the third floor unit with two bedrooms. Large and spacious, we overlooked the beach which was so spectacular. It seriously was like in the movies. Having breakfast on the lanai was magical. The only thing is there is no elevator so you do have to carry your luggage which is not unexpected.

Beautiful, friendly, affordable. Located right next to the ocean, comfortable rooms with lanai (balconies) and helpful staff make relaxing here a pleasure. Be sure to ask for air conditioning if you think you will need it - it costs extra and is only in the bedrooms. I did without and it wasnt really an issue for me.

Great location and facilities. The apartment/ condo was perfect for a group of 4. With kitchen, balcony and large common areas it was perfect. The public area had a nice pool and big spa/ hot tub area. As well as a clean outdoor BBQ kitchen space.Beautiful and neat be sure to head out to the beach that is at the back of this property during sunset to see turtles bobbing up in the water

When you drive up this place you think “what is this place”, but when you’re on the inside, the place looks very nice and well maintained. The apartment was a bit outdated, but it really had everything you could need. The pool is nice too.It’s right at the beach. Do not expect to snorkel though: there is nothing to see here.

Always been a perfect place for stay-cations friendly and helpful staff.

Great having a kitchen, in the room and an out door kitchen with 4 BBQs, stove and a fridge by the pool is a great feature. Close access to the beach is a major plus, but there are a lot of rocks in the water, so bring water shoes to enjoy the local beach. We rented 2 rooms in different buildings B and C on the 3rd floor. With no elevator and having to walk around to the parking lot side I definitely walked more stairs than than I would have liked, try to get ground floor units if possible. Overall I would recommend it as a good option for a family friendly spot, if youd like to save some money cooking your own meals. From building B there were beautiful sunsets from the deck too

Amazing for my family of 4. We spent 4 days at this paradise and it was affordable with a beautiful balcony, living room, kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms. The pool is easy to access and the beach is right behind the hotel, easy walk and breathtaking view for sunset. On the west side of the Maui :)

Nice resort that’s a quick walk to the beach out back. Quiet, private and really nice with the occasional dog walker.The complex is also about a 10 min walk to some really great restaurants so for a vacation spot, you could do a lot worse!

We booked this place via Hotwire. Initially, we were uncertain if we would get two separate rooms as we requested, but we pleasantly surprised to find that not only did we have two separate rooms, but also two bathrooms, a full kitchen with supplies, a washer/dryer and living room with direct access via a sliding glass door to the shared main lawn that also has the community pool. Beyond this, it is a short 2 min walk across a grassy field to the beach, which is quiet and has a beautiful view of the West Maui mountains. The only reason I cant give this place 5 stars is that the AC is only provided at additional cost of $25/day.

This resort is absolutely beautiful. Our room was clean and the staff went way above and beyond in terms of customer service. The pool area is very well maintained and never too crowded and the beach is just a few feet away. We saw dozens sea turtles each night, from the beach right behind our unit. It wasnt busy and loud like other tourist areas/resorts. Definitely the most peaceful, happy vacation weve had, even though Hurricane Lane threatened to hit while we were there.

Location is great! Youre centrally located and can get to other parts of Maui in a reasonable amount of time because of easy access to the main highways from here.Also you can walk beach side all the way to the popular Nalus restaurant, or the other way to Monsoons restaurant. Great food at either place you choose and you dont have to drive.Condo units are not modern, but maintained nicely and clean in common areas. I met many nice couples and families here at the pool area, and also when everyone walks past the pickle ball / tennis courts to watch the sunset together as a community.This is a very nice place as part of your experience in Maui.

The room was nice and spacious. Very clean and a great view. The pool is fun and lots of dining and activity options are a short drive away. Lots of great beaches nearby as well.

The property itself was incredible. We have nothing but great things to say about the amenities and property itself. The staff were friendly, grounds were spotless and pool was well maintained!!We would definitely return to the property but not to the unit we were in (C 101). The layout of the unit and location was great for our family but the unit needs some serious TLC. I don’t think anything has been done to the unit since it was built; this also goes for the cooking appliances and Utensils. We would have hoped for the amount we were paying the unit was more modern and stocked a little better.Our trip was still great so you can imagine how the property and people made up for the less than ideal unit!

It was an awesome experience staying here. We stayed there for 6 nights in a one bedroom. The location is great, all the places are equidistant from this place if you want to go towards airport or towards Lahaina.The house was neat and clean, with all required amenities. I enjoyed the little patio/balcony area. There is a beach behind where you can go and have a great view of the sunset.

This is a group of four buildings. The units available for rent are all owned by individuals, so reviews of this property will only pertain to one particular unit.Overall, this is a lovely property. Situated right on the ocean. The beach at the property itself is not the best, but other beaches are close by. There are tennis courts and a nice swimming pool. The property has a small kitchen area and a number of gas grills adjacent to the pool area for food preparation. We had a pleasant stay overall and would definitely return.Be aware that some units are equipped with air conditioning, and others are not. We visited Maui in November and we chose not to pay $25 extra per day for air conditioning because of the time of year. We found it to be extremely hot, however, and will gladly pay the extra fee the next time we visit.

We chose this property due to the excellent ratings in Expedia, and also the recommendation in Fodors travel guide. We were aware that this property is a bit dated before we made the reservation. Based on the recommendations, we expected a clean, well equipped condo, convenient location and pro-active management. We got all that and more. Plus, the bonus was that this is a beachfront property with a secluded beach, where we could wade, swim, and enjoy quiet sunsets.

This could be 4 stars if you have the right room, our room was old and not recently renovated. These units are owned by different owners who put them in a rental pool so some could be amazing and others in need of upgrade. The location is great if you are a kite surfer, there are better beaches in Kihei if you just want to sit at the beach. The water is very shallow but you are right on the beach. The Pool is small. There are community BBQs which are nice but you might need to wait in line to use them.

The most perfect location,the beat view! Also has a pool and outside tub with a small kitchen next to the pool! Simply perfect!

If you plan to stay at this property, make sure you check to be sure you know what you are booking and you get that room. I booked a Deluxe ocean view room and they gave me a standard one. Their website clearly states what rooms are deluxe and mine was clearly not. Then they said the website was wrong - Really?? They did give me a credit for the difference which was right but that was not the point. I didnt get what I asked for and nothing was said until I questioned it. AC is an extra cost per night and not in all rooms so be sure to ask. The other thing is, I had the 2 bedroom and there was no AC in the second bedroom. My ocean view turned out to be a great view of the fenced in tennis courts. Kitchen was awesome and do have washer/dryer.

Had an amazing time !! We stayed in room B-211 and it was great. The kitchen had nice upgraded appliances and everything you could possibly need to cook dinner a couple of nights. There were even beach chairs and a cooler in the closet. We definitely plan on staying here next year when we go back to Maui.

We spent our week long honeymoon at Luana Kai near Kihei in Maui and it was everything we could have wanted! The resort is right on the water, with a beautiful park/lawn area right in front. It’s just a short walk to the beach and gorgeous sunsets. The one bedroom condo with laundry, WiFi & dishwasher was just perfect for us. The AC did cost extra, $25 per day so we just skipped it. The pool and hot tub were great and we even used the outdoor grills (they had several) in the pool area to cook a few dinners! We loved it so much that we actually booked our stay for next year while we were there! Mahalo Luana Kai!

Original check in was a little confusing because we were put in the incorrect type of unit then assigned to a unit that was not acceptable to us. The next day the manager Leslie made arrangements to put us in a beautiful unit. We were very pleased that she responded to our concerns right away and the new unit was amazing. Keep in mind that these units are all individually owned and they are kept up to each owners standards. The first unit we stayed in was honestly a 1 out of 10, the next day we were moved into a 9 out of 10. Night and day, just make sure you know exactly what unit you are renting and take a look at the photos online. Leslie was very helpful and we would defiantly stay in D204 again. 2 bed 2 bath ocean view.

A bit dated inside but that seems to be common in Maui. We loved that we could walk along the beach and see Turtles every day as they live in a lagoon. Lovely pool and spa and close to both ends of the island. Too many emails sent to me it got confusing. Would recommend staying here but it is expensive.

Was close to the ocean. Clean and well layed out however it was infested with bugs that looked like baby cockroaches on the mainland however the exterminator assured us that they are very common a d that they are not roaches. They are very hungry and will eat anything if left out of refrigerator. Resort made arrangements and sold tickets for our entertainment that was absolutely amazing. There were places to eat within walking distance. So overall experience was a once I N a lifetime experience i will cherish forever!

This is a nice value for the money. It get 4 stars vs 5 only because its not a 5 star property. I would stay here again and feel this is a very well priced place to stay. Having the beach out your back door is really nice too. I just amended this post. This place is perfect for a family of 4 we stayed in room A104. It was perfectly set up for the week. Enough towels, dishwasher pods, all that little stuff was here. They have a nice pool, a beach with no one on it - no waves and a bit windy but you are by yourself. A great week. Strongly recommend.

Relaxing laid back condo centrally located with beach perfect for sunsets and sunbathing. Great for families! Pool with hot tub and nice barbecues for grilling. A 20-40 min drive to other locations worth visiting in Maui. Would definitely stay here again. Nice AC units kept us cool.

Great place to stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I had a two bedroom condo (king and twin) so plenty of space for one, but would be very comfortable for small families as well. Would definitely come back.

Love it! Been going to the Luana Kai since I was a child 25 years ago. Just went this April 2018 with my family of four. Stayed in two room since they were book full for the 12 day trip we planned. Worked out great! They made the transition so smooth. It was like starting a second vacation. Both rooms in C and D Buildings were great. We have had rooms with Garden and Ocean view, floors 1-3, Buildings A-D, loved all of them. My Dad favorite are the Ocean view room. He would start the day drinking his coffee every morning watching the sunrise slowly brighten the sky and listening to the waves on the beach. Sunsets are amazing here as always.Th Pool and Hot Tub are always a great way to relaxing the evening with the tiki torches lit on the pathway and around the pool area. They even have 6 BBQ with utensils for you to be able to BBQ your own meal.Mario and Leslie are always great to talk to about food, activities, and life on the island. We miss them dearly every time we leave.

I grew to really like this place. I started off on a vacation here. I liked the rooms but wasnt blown away. I have totally changed my tune as time went on. Private beach, tennis courts great kite boarding. They set the unit A104 with everything you need to start your vacation off - dishwasher pods, washing machine stuff etc. I also loved Kehei, Ive stayed in a few places around Maui in this was refreshing, not overly fake like the more posh parts of the island.

We rented 4 units for our family...C305, B104, D104 and C109. Compared to the other units C109 is grossly overpriced for what you get. This unit is in need of a major overhaul. EXTREMELY disappointed. Do not rent this unit until the owners bring it up to-date. The other 3 units, beautiful! We love the resort!

Nice pool. Warm hot tub. Outdoor kitchen is great. Some of the units need updates but the lofts are nice.

Clean and easy. Every one is doing its best to make you feel comfortable. Really good price. Would stay here again.

The most ridiculous place to stay, all the permanent residents are beyond nosey and all in your business. You almost cant get any privacy whether youre indoors or outdoors. I stayed here for two weeks and couldnt wait to get the hell out of there.

We most enjoyed the fully equipped kitchen with all the accessories needed to help us feel at home, as well as beach chairs and extra perks! Great location, Beautiful gardens and a five minute walk to a gorgeous beach! Staff was great, flexible and accommodating thank you very much!

Great location. Easy walk to the beach. Was supposed to be oceanview but at best building B is partial oceanview. Washer and dryer were broken but were offered to clothing laundered in town Pool was kind of small. Eventhough the unit was ready for occupancy, we were told the code to enter the unit would not be activated until 4pm. The management on site were much more friendly and helpful than the management company that we rented from.

Cozy condo that fit a large group with easy access to the beach and close to many things in Kihei. And the condo was gorgeous! These floors!

We arrived after check in hours & were assisted by the manager who was extremy helpful. Our unit was clean and beautifully furnished with a wonderful ocean view. The kids swam in the pool and explored the grounds, but we did not spend a lot of time there with so much to do on the island. The staff did leave us a reminder & directions on checkout procedures on our door which i found nice.

Chose property randomly. Small strip of beach out front, calm in morning, choppy in afternoon. No surfing or body surfing possible. Enough rocks to make splashing around with kids tough. Small/crowded pool. Bedrooms were nice but living area and fold out was questionable. Especially couch, dirty, covered in hair, dead insects once pulled open. Fitted sheet had blood stains on it. You have to pay for electricity. Yes, you read that right. Pretty sure already paid a “resort fee” on top only the nightly rate. An additional $25 to have AC.The property was fine for what it was, glad we had excursions planned daily. Not a place I would want to go and spend serious time at though.

The property (Luana Kai Resort) was very clean and well maintained. It was a great location and nice and quiet. We loved the location and the staff were very helpful and kind.

The stars are for the access to the beach.The building and units are quite dated.I was in a downstairs unit that was understandably not as illuminated but was dank, smelled, and had old stained upholstery. Other than that, it was reasonably equipped.While the front office staff was perfectly cordial, my experience with the night manager was the opposite of Aloha. Having worked and traveled for months in Hawaii, this was the most unpleasant experience I’ve ever had in the islands.I approached this lady who lives on the property for help as instructed after a late check-in. Not only did she seem upset at having been disturbed (not sure what being a “night manager” entails), she then proceeded to speak rudely, and *repeatedly* had the gall to tell me my clothes were not “tropical enough” or Hawaii-appropriate. If I wasn’t prone to giving people the benefit of doubt, I’d say she was racist.Doubtless, I’ll take my business to one of the many other condos in the area.

Amazing condos. Great place to stay. Made our HawaiI experience as good as can be. Our unit b108 had plenty of little things to make our stay better. There were two different sized coolers, 4 atm chairs to take to the beach, a boogie board and even a box fan. Great kitchen amenities. You can tell they have really though of the little things to try and make your trip better.

Wow wow wow is all I can say about our stay at beautiful Luana Kai. Our room B308 was an absolute beautiful room/mini home away from home. It had everything and more that my family needed. The scenery and the grounds and the ocean view was something that you would see on TV and Luana Kai brought that to life for us. The staff was A+ on every side of customer service. Location is great especially with kids and the beach was a few steps away from our room. Everything about this place was great and beautiful and my family and I will definitely be back hopefully soon to make more memories with our stay at Luana Kai. I sadly made this reservation without going on the resort website. Expedia does not inform u that only certain rooms have AC and I’m dying. It’s beautiful but 95 and the wind doesn’t sometimes blow until late in the day. So miserable. Beautiful site but all rooms need AC.....

This was a good homebase for our Maui getaway. The codo we rented was clean and very functional. The only negative was the block and tackle tactics it took to get grill time in the evening.

I liked how the property was so close to everything. The amenities were a little dated, but served us well. Staff were very friendly.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE !!!! I was disappointed at my stay here. This resort is old and in major need of overhaul. Very overpriced for what it is worth. My major complaint: The room that we were staying was too hot and the to turn on the AC you had to pay extra ! in my case $300 more to turn the AC on for a few nights...Wish I had stayed somewhere else.

Wonderful convenient home away from home. Clean quiet and great helpful staff. If you want A/C you need to ask for it, it’s a bit extra but worth it especially if you have ocean view which is hot in the afternoon. Not all units have it. The kitchen is great for cooking some at ‘home’ as a change from going out. Beach chairs and towels, comfortable amenities and washer /dryer. It was a great place to spend a week using it as a base to see much of Maui from Kihei as a base. We couldn’t have been happier.

Simple to book and clean when we got there. After we left, we forgot a pair of headphones and they called and said theyll ship it to us. Very nice and friendly!!

Friendly, helpful, caring manager and staff. A great location to many beaches, activities and restaurants. Spacious condo and the kitchen was fully furnished. The patio had a perfect view of the beach and sunsets. Very well kept and clean property. It was definitely a home away from home. Will plan to stay there again and refer it to all our family and friends. Some condos do not come with air conditioning, so I suggest to check the weather before booking so you can request a condo with A/C. Our condo did not have A/C however it did have a good breeze with the patio door, front door and windows all open.

The condo was really nice many updates and very spacious. The only downers were when we arrived I thought I was getting a king bed not a queen and no ac but plenty of fans. It wasn’t enough to complain about being we were in paradise. The staff of the resort were very friendly along with kept the grounds immaculate. Luana Kai was great place to stay for a week. Our suite had full kitchen, beach towels and beach chairs along with other standard amenities. The resort is right next to the beach park so you can just walk to the beach. The staff was helpful. The area is good and grocery store is at walking distance.

Gorgeous views of the ocean from our balcony. Quiet and clean. Sprawling grass area between property and beach which was perfect for our family.

This our second stay at the Luana Kai. We absolutely love it there!!

Not as great as advertised. At checkin said would be one hr. Over 3 hours later ready. Had booked deluxe ocean view balcony on 2nd floor ended up with ground floor. Kitchen very nice but room needs tlc. No closet available in master bedroom just wire rack. Needs paint so disappointed. Nice location but not a great beach. Maybe other rooms are better.

This place was BEAUTIFUL! Modern, fun, clean and full of every amenity you could think of. This is my second stay at Knowles Maui properties and Ill never stay anywhere else! Awesome pool, beach access and just a walk or short drive away from anywhere youd want to go. Great for families, couples or just a relaxing and luxurious get away.

The room is very cozy! The owners are so sweet. They let us borrow sunscreen that was reef safe and towels for our stay. And the location is convenient for shops and fresh fruit. Would definitely recommend to any traveler looking to relax.

The location was amazing. Great view, centrally located, AC worked great!! Very comfortable bed and couch! It was perfect for us!!

Parking was an issue, pool and hot tub were not clean, sauna was out of order, Our unit had a few issues with the bathroom and the entry door. There is no path to the beach so you need to walk across a wet marshy field of grass to get to it.

Launa Kai is a relaxed, family friendly place to stay in Maui. Units are nice and options for 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms. Great pool and grounds. Walk to beach for sunset (but not really for swimming). Good central location in Maui. Highly recommend this place. Weve stayed in B311 2 times now and love it.

Very very clean place. Words cant explain how nice this place is.

Nice and clean rooms. Its more like an apartment really, you have a full kitchen (stove, oven, microwave oven, dishwasher) with all accessories (plates, cutlery, ...), as well as washing machine and dryer. You even get beach stuff like a beach umbrella, snorkeling gear and and kids surf board. Overall its a very good place to stay especially if you want to cook your own meals, definitively recommended.

I loved the place. Especially when we got into the unit we found we had a washer and dryer. Also, the two bedroom unit had two bathrooms. The staff was wonderful. My friend was having unusual pain in her left leg and was having a hard time walking. They had a cain for her to use while we were there. The unit was very clean and so were the grounds. Great place to stay on a budget and for long periods of time. Stayed there 5 days in a 2 bed room. Beds were not that comfortable maybe need to replace the mattresses as well as the sofa bed mattress.Loved the dryer and washer in the unit. There was also a cooler, beach umbrellas, and beach chair. The front desk gives you beach towels. There was bars of soap and towels. Prepare to bring or buy shampoo and conditioner. Love the location to the beach, just walk across the lawn. Didnt go into the heated pool, just hopped into the ocean a few times.

I love this place its in North Kihei which lot of people say is bunk, however it is reasonable price Oceanfront and beautiful views. It is centrally located and has very nice units. Theyre all individually owned, however most of them are very well kept. They have a nice pool jacuzzi and a beautiful place to barbecue every night. There is a refrigerator microwave sink dishwasher right at the pool area! Love the Luana Kai!!

Nice beach and property, but no elevator!

Really enjoy playing pickleball here in Waipulani Park in back of this facility. Million $$$ views all day long with bright beautiful sunshine and sea breezes.

Even the bad weather is good here, always warm and the birds chirping really make you feel apart of the nature here. Its a perfect getaway! The rooms are also huge and offer a washer and dryer which I think are a must now having them. Swimsuits dont clean them selves on vacation ha. Perfect getaway! And great service.

This was a great little gem. I would stay here again. The property was well maintained. The beach area is small; maybe 15 yards of sand and then the ocean. The beach was about a football field and 1/2 from our patio. Do theres a short walk to the beach

My first time visiting Maui. Luana Kai was very nice. Great pool area and awesome ocean view. Our condo was nice except for the living room area. Dirty furniture and carpet. The rest of the condo was ok. I would recommend these condos but not D102. Needs upgrade.

Did not inform us of major parking lot work had to fight for parking on the far end of complex. They should have made accommodations for check in and out to drive in to area for load in and out. The units were nice. But the beach in front was verry Rocky. Bring water shoes. And air conditioning is an extra charge, they tell you about when you arrive.

Beautiful and well kept managed condo resort. Very family friendly so not as quiet as other places. Location is near shopping and restaurants. Beach area is rough and not recommended for swimming.

We stayed in building B room 209. The room was clean, updated, and had a great balcony which overlooked the pool out to the ocean. I wouldnt recommend Luana Kai to someone looking for a resort experience, but for someone looking for a quiet, well situated condo its great! Id love to stay there again!

Luana Kai is a cute resort and the price is very decent for a fairly touristy area of Maui. With a pool, hit tub and sauna its fun for the whole family with a beautiful view of the beach. The grounds are well kept and full of Hawaiian flowers and plants. My only thing is that my unit didnt have access and could get fairly hot if there wasnt the normal breeze, also its a bit of a hike from downtown with the higher UV of Maui but worth the workout.

The lady managing was very kind and pleasant. We stayed 10 days and twice during that time our parking lot was closed for repairs for a few days. Our unit was pretty far back and having to carry everything that long way was difficult.

We had a good stay at Luana Kai. The apartment was well-equipped with a comfy bed and great kitchen. View out to tennis courts was ok but it would have been nicer to be higher up. The resort has a lovely big pool and hot tub which was a great place to watch the stars. Location also very good - close to great supermarkets and a beaches along the Kihei road.
