I went to a camp at the YMCA when I was around 5 or 6 years old. We went to an activity and I had just ran out of water. I asked if I could go get some more water, they said no. A few hours later, maybe like 6 hours, I still had not gotten any water. Even before I asked if I could get a drink from the water fountains, they said no. As we were walking back I collapsed on the hot pavement and they didn’t even try to get me up. They just let me lay there. Finally they took me into the main camp center, and let me lay down on a cushion. They call my mom and she came to pick me up. I puked over her shoulder when she picked me up. We then went to the doctor and, they told my mom I was dehydrated. We got back into the car and I passed out. The next thing I remember is my dad holding me and walking pretty fast into a place that smelled like a hospital, it was. I was severely dehydrated. They should be grateful we didn’t sue.

Steady decline over the years. Both pools are closed more often than they are open. No one seems to enjoy working there. Our family used to go 5x a week. Havent been there for 2 years. Paying dues in hopes things will improve. It will be a shame when it closes permanently. Maybe hire a business manager? Good luck.

Ive been going here for over 2 years regularly. Staff is friendly, equipment is fairly up to date, and there is a rotation if new stuff. There are quite a few good classes included with your membership as well. Indoor and outdoor pools are at your disposal. The personal trainers are not super pushy about signing up for anything. Its my home away from home.

Yeah my son signed up to play basketball there unfortunately I guess not enough interest so theres only three teams switch it had to add 14 from outside YMCA to make it work. My biggest complaint is the parent who volunteer to coach but from what I witnessed only was coaching his son and none of the other kids are my sons team. My son is play basketball three or four different seasons there throughout his youth one time had an incredible coach another time my mother stepped in and did a great job work with all the kids as well. However his current coach did absolutely nothing during warm-up with any of the kids except for his son. Another thing I witnessed during a timeout the kids walked over to the bench he high fives his son but not any other kids. Anyone can volunteer to do nothing apparently thats what this guy does

I worked out there, off-and-on, for twelve years. The equipment is excellent, as is the rapport with the city of Indianapolis. Yet, the lack of enforcement, especially the way the basketball games go, is an issue at Baxter. I am also taken aback by the so-called Diversity Statement. It should say, All are Welcome.. Instead, it lists which characterizations are welcome. Not needed.

Good family gym you get 2 hours of childcare as party of your family membership. The childcare workers are friendly. They just got several new cardio machines a couple of lifting platforms and some new workout machines. The personal trainers are knowledgeable and helpful. Plus you get a discount on childrens programs, swimmin lessons tumbling, etc. If your a veteran make sure you ask for the military discount.

In the evenings it overflows with teenage bros grabbing each other’s genitals and commenting on female athletes in a not so subtle way. If the social environment is important to you at your gym, this is only a good fit if you’re still living with your parents or a disgruntled parent who has said adult baby still crashing in their basement. Even the evening staff has the snotty attitude of a kid who just came home from freshman year and thinks they’re too cool for anything. But it’s clean enough and is well equipped, even if a little small.

I would avoid their before/after school care programs. The prices are high for the service you receive. My child is attending 1 day of after school care this week and it cost $42.00. She will be in a cafeteria entertaining herself until we pick her up. For $42.00 a day I expect a lot more.

The staff is here is so rude. I want to laugh at some of the good reviews about friendly staff .. that’s a joke and probably a fake review from the company ! Yes the Ymca has some attractive amenities but they need to clean house and hire better people. If you don’t like Customers then why are you in customer service? I am a very friendly person who has manners, I say please and thank you and I smile at everyone so there’s no reason for the staff here to roll their eyes, give you dirty looks and treat you like you’re not welcomed when you have been nothing but kind. I came here to have something to do with my kids together but the place is a joke! The day care hours are weird and inconsistent, the open swim hours are inconsistent and the whole place is unorganized and everyone is confused . I have never seen so many unprofessional and rude people working in the same place at the same time

Not a good place to send your children to day camp. The preschool camp counselors are not prepared to handle small children at all!!! Go ahead and send your preschooler if youre ok with them having a teacher straight out of high school all day long. School age children stay out in the sun all day long and the other kids dump out their drinks and put dirt in their cups. Where were the counselors when this happened?!The older lady at the front desk with the walker is extremely rude and unprofessional!!

Staff is friendly and all equipment is in great shape. I only wish there was some way to regulate time of usage on equipment with limited availability (benches, squat rack, etc.). There seems to be a lack of proper gym etiquette when it comes to this particular issue. Of course this is no fault of the staff, but I cant afford to spend hours in the gym waiting 20-30 minutes for a single piece of equipment.

Fr
Review №46

The cardio equipment is pretty well kept, but it can be very crowded in the 5-7pm weekday slots. As some of the other reviews have said, the staff is hit or miss. Some of them are really nice while others wont even acknowledge you exist while theyre scanning your card or passing you in the halls. They offer a pretty decent selection of classes, and have a lot of different things to offer that a regular gym may not. They will also adjust your monthly fee based on income if you bring in pay stubs. One other upside is that it is a pretty even distribution of ages and fitness levels. Its not as embarrassing when you are just starting. You will fit in.

This will be a better place for older people. Im 14 and it can get irritating in its conditions. For one, when I work out and go to the locker rooms, the boys locker room is a complete disaster, dirty underwear on the floor and Ive never seen anyone come through and attempt to clean it, it would be better if the age limit on the adult locker room was lower. Theirs has nice polished new wooden lockers and a hot tub, not to mention theres not toddlers running around naked in them. The teenage hangout is worse than the locker rooms. Behind the new PCs with no internet there is a moldy sandwich bag with bread in it. The pool table is missing some sticks, and chalk. There us an authority table with no paddles, and the gaming consoles are in terrible condition. On the other hand, the gym is pretty nice with lots of equipment. The pool is usually occupied by senior swimming groups and the younger kids. Overall Id say the place is one you can workout at while your kids dont have much to do besides work out and do homework. A planet fitness membership is more worth your money.

Extremely disappointed with the new pool rules. When I signed up a few months ago, I was told I have 3 pool passes for guests which I hadnt used yet. When I went to use one, they said according to the new rules, that was the only one I had to use and any guest after is $15 for one pass (which is a ridiculous price for the type of outdoor pool). Its one thing to changes rules, its another to not honor existing passes that were apart of my signing up. Not to mention the pool staff is unprofessional and unfriendly.

I like Baxter mostly because its the closest place I can get to. The fitness and machine equipment is more than adequate for my needs and actually the reason I come here is for Dottis strength training class on Sunday mornings. I think these types of classes are the best kept secret around. I found the same case a the Cityway YMCA. For some reason these classes mostly attract women and I am one of a few men who show up each week. You can make these classes easy but you can also seriously punish yourself and get a heck of a workout in a super efficient way. The time passes much faster than doing weight machine rotations or free weights and I am toasted but the time I am done. Highly recommend it!

Dont waste your time if your going to sign up for the soccer league. My daughter has played here for 7 years. Over the past 4 years it has changed for the worse. This year really bad. The referee is not doing his job and it is teaching the children bad habits and someone is going to get hurt. Several parents discussed this today and it falls on deaf ears with the staff. Check into the other leagues before you sign up here, I would have but I liked her coach this past 2 seasons.

This Y has all the trappings of class but underneath is lazy and rude. I should not have to point out to pool staff multiple days that a child who cannot swim is in the deep end. And it is not normal for member services reps to hang up on customers in lieu of help. Drive a few extra miles to Martinsville; the equipment is old and locker rooms dingy, but everything else is 10x better.

I received the 3 day pass so my family and I could try YMCA to see if we liked it or not. I absolutely loved it until the third day that is. I know the pass required an ID, but they never asked for it the other 2 days, so I didnt bother bringing an ID. I went up to retrieve my last day, and the elderly man that was there and asked for an ID. I didnt mind going back home and driving to pick my ID up, but the tone and attitude he said it it was not in a courteous way. Let me specify and keep in mind: he only told me to bring my ID, I am the father of the family and I was bringing my family along. I drove back home and picked my ID up and we went and the elderly man was still there. I showed him my ID, and he answered, “All adults must bring IDs and everyone that is 16 and older.” Never, not ever, did he specify the first time that all adults and anyone 16 and older had to bring IDs, he just told me to bring my ID. My family and I felt disrespected and not welcomed, because why wasnt he able to tell us everything the first time? My daughter told him, “We drove all the way to our house and back twice, can you just let us pass?” He let us pass but we are a Hispanic family and I felt discriminated because of our race. The man could of specified exactly everything with the IDs the first time we were there, not when we had already drove home and back twice. It was very rude and it made our visit uncomfortable. If you tell me, this is not a way to welcome a family and does not make people want to join YMCA membership.
