Very knowledgeable about any questions for your fresh to salt water tanks. They have water available to fill for your tanks at home - i dont remember the price- and are very friendly. Also, since the remodel, the store looks amazing and is much easier to shop and browse.P.S. There is a beautiful and friendly Macaw that loves to say Hello!

Good prices and knowledgeable staff. Lots of freshwater plants and the only place Ive been to to actually label all of them, which allows me to do my research before buying. Also Ying was very helpful!

The knowledgeable staff is always very helpful. If one associate doesnt know something, they will find one that does. They have great prices and a huge variety of salt water and fresh water aquarium supplies and fish. It is, by far, my favorite place for fish, and I live 40 minutes away. Well worth the trip.

Update 10/15/20:Ive been in here several times over the years, but never bought anything myself. Recently I decided to set up a serious aquarium, so this was my first stop before I consulted the forums about it. Ying took a lot of time to indulge all my newbie questions and helped my family figure out where how we really wanted to set up our tank. He even compared products to help me save a couple bucks on the initial setup. This is an excellent store full of people who are passionate about fish keeping.

6 out of 5 stars because the place is that damn good. They have everything you need including but not limited to live plants, driftwood, substrates, rocks and some of the more rare freshwater and saltwater species that you wont find at the chain stores. The staff is on point and always makes for a pleasant experience. If you havent checked this place out yet, youre doing yourself a disservice.

I went in yesterday with ?s about setting up a 10 gallon fresh water fish tank that was gifted to me.I was greeted by employee Nate. He was friendly, incredibly informative,very knowledgeable, encouraging and helpful to me.Looking forward to getting the tank put together. Of course, The Reef is where all my fish and other supplies will be purchased.THANKS NATE

Best LFS around! We drive an hour away just to come here for fish and live plants. The staff have always been nice, helpful and knowledgeable. The plants are great quality, nice size and cheaper than youd find them somewhere else. If they dont have what youre looking they will happily try and special order it for you (at least fish, not sure on plants).

Update: Owner of the store stated the workers made the right call. However, the fish was not exhibiting normal behavior, even my eighty year old noticed that. It did not seem normal to us that a guppy would only swim on the bottom of the thank, have his fin flipped over, and twitch. That is why we we were concerned. It is even more concerning if workers at the store think that is normal behavior for a guppy. Like I said, we normally love this store, but we were given bad advice on this one.Normally we love this store. However, we had a guppy who seemed to not be swimming right and his fin looked funny. He only swam at the bottom, couldnt get up in the water. Two times, once on Thursday, and once on Sunday, I took a video of him swimming at the bottom of the tank. I showed it to people at the Reef to see if there was something that I could purchase to help, and even though he was obviously getting worse, the workers at the Reef said the fish looked normal and was doing great. I woke up this morning, Monday, and he was dead. Just annoyed that they told me he was healthy, when he obviously wasnt.

This place is the best. Super knowledgeable team. Gives great advice, super friendly. Plants are cheaper than the chain pet store and are hella more alive and vibrant green. If youre looking for fish in Indy, look no further.

Very helpful staff and beautiful tanks. They seem to care a lot about their jobs and their fish and I will consider purchasing from them when I move to a place that allows tanks.

I had some issues with a fish that I purchased, but the staff worked with me to solve the problem. The customer service has been great. All of the staff are very nice and helpful. I will definitely be returning.

If anyone complains about the prices, they work for a competitor! Everything they us in stock was cheaper than all the places I’ve been too. I was utterly blown away by how friendly and knowledgeable everyone was. I bought three plants and a crayfish and I’ll never shop at another place again. The associates had actual knowledge about the marine life they had and the plant life. I’ll be back on Tuesday for some crabs and shrimp. Next tank I buy will also be purchased here. I promise you cannot go wrong here! I’d give 10 stars if I could.

Terrible fish quality, i’ve bought 3 angel fish from them and not a single one has survived longer than a month. I acclimated and test water weekly. Water comes back at good levels and still their angel fish and panda’s do not live longer than a month. I do not consider myself a beginner at all also. Ive kept fish tanks for longer than a year with multiple tanks. Also do weekly water changes. Bought fish from petsmart of all places and the angel fish is in great health for a few months now.This place has made me question my abilities as a fish keeper and frustrated me beyond words. Now i realize that their fish quality is subpar and will shop online now.

Super cool aquarium store with a variety of fish, plants, and supplies. They have far more fish related things you need in their store than if you went to a regular chain pet store. The employees are nice and helpful. Several people asked me if I needed while I was walking around. I wish I could have stayed longer to look at all the cool!

I love this place, I love the vast selection of aquatic life and products and the chill atmosphere. The only thing that urks me sometimes is that when you go in to ask for help some of the staff act like talking to a customer is the most grueling task they will ever have. Maintaining aquatics can be pretty intimidating and it sucks a little more when you feel like you cant ask questions.

I took my 8-year-old grandson to pick out fish for his first aquarium and the sales guy was so patient with him to pick out the exact color of fish he wanted

I really like this shop because of the variety and rare species that they often offer. Be advised that you should quarantine anything and everything that you buy here. Every fish that Ive bought has brought disease in one form or another into my aquariums. No fault of the reef as they buy from breeders, but do your due diligence.

I absolutely love the Reef I drove 45 mins from home the other day to shop here the staff was very friendly I could hear the smile in their voices as we have to have on masks I will be visiting soon to see about a python tank cleaner! If you live in indinapolis, you know local business is everything. The reef indy, is no exception to this! The staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. These are real people getting paid to do what they love! I knew little about fish tanks and water parameters, but after visiting the reef, I went home and its all I could read about. I drive over to this place from danville IL because i think they’re the best pet shop in the area. always clean, tanks are beautiful, great advice and not condescending about fish keeping! i only had one bad interaction and it was with a bald guy (i think?) that was working there, he was pretty rude but maybe he was just having a bad day. everyone else has been really nice, friendly, and a wealth of information. i’m willing to make the hour and a half drive to this place because i’m so impressed with them. my plants from here are beautiful and my fish are healthy. my boyfriend had a massive fish death in his cichlid tank due to an ammonia spike a while back and the fish from here were the only ones that survived if that tells you anything about the quality of their fish. (they’re healthier than ever now, don’t worry) keep it up guys!

This is by far the best shop around I live in fishers and happily make the 30 minute drive to the shop every other day lol. Best plant selection and quality fish and products from plant fertilizers, to driftwood and rocks this place is the bees knees. I have furnished both my ranks with everything from the Reef !!!!

It would be impossible to find better service or a wider selection of all things aquatic. They have everything you need, and if not. Are more than willing to order it specifically for you.

The staff is very knowledgeable. I have had dealings with 4 different people there so far and each one has been very helpful. If they dont know the answer to my question, they find someone that does. All the tanks are very clean, the fish and plants are healthy. They offer so many different services that as our aquariums grow we will be using. This is the best little salt water shop in indy. They have all kinds of corals and are very knowledgeable about stuff I dont totally understand yet.

I have my first visit at The reef just a few days ago it was a very nice shop with a ton of variety. Everything look clean and healthy. The staff was wonderful with any type of question that I had. They definitely gained a new customer.

The people at The Reef are always so helpful and kind, and they take very good care of all the fish and corals. I prefer to drive the 50 minutes to shop here instead of a more local place because they always have fresh and saltwater in stock.

They have one of the best(quite possibly the best) fish and aquatic plant selections of central Indiana. They have an impressive array of salt and freshwater tanks, with a lot of fish/shrimp I haven’t found anywhere else. Good place to go for the beginner and enthusiast alike.It’s worth the trip just to see their display tanks!

Any issues with a purchase will be up to you to work with the manufacturer for refunds or exchanges!!!!I initially had a great experience with the staff who helped me set up my my daughters first freshwater aquarium. They were very helpful and informative. I spent $150 to get started. The power filter they recommended began making rattling noises after a few hours of use. I adjusted it some, but it began doing it again a few hours later. I returned to the store 2 days later and they took it apart, put it back together. I went home and a few hours later was rattling again. We had to turn it off at night because my daughter kept waking up to it. I returned again and asked for an exchange. They called the owner and stated that it wasnt the stores fault, its a manufacturer issue and I needed to contact them directly to work out a solution. I literally had the filter for a total of 6 days & they are unwilling to exchange the $20 item. Unbelievable! I would have been a return customer for years. There was a reason I was driving 20 minutes each way & passing 3 other chain aquatic stores to stay local. So much for my efforts. I guess Amazon and chain stores will be getting my business. What a waste.

Never buying a fish from PetSmart again!!! Ive seen their quarantine tanks, so sick/malnourished/injured fish rarely ever hit the gallery which is a huge plus that I know Im getting something healthy. Out of the dozens of fish I have gotten here only one has died, and that was honestly because it was a deformed fish (I picked her out due to her deformities knowing shed be a struggle). Only issue I have is the price of some of the items (non-fish), some can be found at literally 1/3rd the price (such as the tetra water test strips•retail:$15 for 100•Reef:$25 for 30

It was great! Today was my first time there as I’m putting together my first planted aquarium and had to get some basics. They were hopping busy but I knew what I needed! I’m sure had I needed help, any of the employees would have been more than happy to assist! I overheard some of their conversations and it was obvious how knowledgeable they are about what they do. I am looking forward to going back and getting my first plants and as many tips as they are willing to part with for this newbie.

Nice little gem on the east side of Indy. Has a little bit of everything for supplies, the fish look fairly healthy and most of the staff were helpful. We werent a fan of the short brunette young lady working the checkout though. She has an attitude and was the reason I put back a heater that we were looking at purchasing. But other than that, the bearded man and the young tall girl were so kind and helpful. Will definitely be coming back, just hope not to deal with miss attitude next time.

Visited The Reef for the first time yesterday and simply found it amazing! The workers were quite knowledgeable and helpful, especially the Gentleman with the long ponytail. I came looking to see what the store carried and feel when i start up my axolotl tank in a few months i can find everything i need at The Reef :) and the store evem had some axolotls!! The gentleman with the ponytail was quite helpful when we asked him questions about the axolotls and even fed them while we we there which was extremely cool to see!!My only disapointment is that i cant give the shop more than 5 stars on this review :)

Very friendly staff, funny bird mascot, some places in the shop are a bit tight due to so many thanks but other than that it was nice.
