Great place. There are thousands of bats living under the bridge! (According to their site there are more than 250,000 Mexican free-tailed bats) Arrive about 30 minutes before sunset to watch the action. There is a viewing platform at the corner of Waugh Drive and Allen Parkway. No Parking nearby but you can park on Allen Parkway or (Metered - closest) or Lost Lake Visitor Center (Metered)
Spectacular experience watching the bats fly out from under the bridge, definitely worth waiting for.
Very nice place with lots to see. Go see the bats yourself you wont be disappointed!
Bat watching place in Houston. Plan to visit at sunset time.
Amazing!! Been twice. A few key points from experience:1. Bats can come out before or after sunset so arrive 30 minutes before sunset and expect to stay for about an hour2. Can bring a chair or blanket or just sit on edge of the sidewalk3. Bats dont come out in the rain or cold (50 or lower) so check the weather before going4. Metered street parking is usually available on Rosine street- a short block west and south of the bridge
Pretty unique sight to see all the bats leave the bridge. And there were a few predator birds (probably hawks) around trying to snatch a meal.
Awesome relaxing sight. We were in awe of the Bats and the amount that we saw. Endless.
Nature is truly amazing!! Despite the ravages of Harvey this is still an awesome sight! On the dot 15 mins after the scheduled sunset the bats start swarming under the bridge and start flowing out towards downtown. The collective noun for bats is a cloud of bats, which is very appropriate!! The hawks swooping and diving to get their evening meal was an added bonus!
Fantastic experience. Natural aromas! Grab a spot next to the viewing platform next to the bridge and hang out until sunset. Then enjoy the long flow of bats as they fly up into the buildings! Some birds of prey hunting them as they climb around the buildings. Quite the sight and great experience. Bring some water, its hot outside. Defi itely a must do if youre in Houston.
Very very cool. Nice viewing spots.
Amazing to see bats.
Great place, theres no official parking, so just look for a shopping center or somewhere close to park.
This is a unique experience for locals and out-of-town guests alike. Its certainly not something you can see just anywhere and is a nice reminder that nature and people can live harmoniously together :-)
Such a fun and unusual thing to do in the middle of the city. Come at sunset to see the little guys fly out.
Cool experience but smells but what can u expect from bats
On May 6, 2017 the Bats came out at 7:38 pm perfect time to start watching them
Cool bats
Great experience. Awesome to see so many bats come out from hiding.
I dont make it out here often, but I love it when I do. I took my mom here and she lost her mind. She hates bats! The thing is, once she saw that they werent coming at her, she got lost in the awe of 250,000 bats swarming out from under one bridge.Recommended as an off-the-wall date spot. Bring a blanket and a few drinks and youre set.
You must come here - one of the most beautiful and uniqe places in Houston
Amazing to see this many bats wake up and go feeding
Absolutely cool place to view bats after sundown
What a neat experience!
Very cool to see at least once. Bats came out 5 min after sunset today (8:10 pm)
If you havent seen a blanket of bats cover the sky while a lone bird of prey attempts to grab a snack prior to bed, check it out! Just make sure you go while they are in season. If you go during the wrong chunk of the year you may hear them, but they likely will not be coming out in a massive cloud (you may not see any at all).
I love to take tourists here. It’s not a mall, or a statue, or a building; its an experience. It’s just a psuedo-park by a bridge that bats live under. It’s a great place to sit and talk for a bit while you wait for the sun to set and the bats to take off. Bring a blanket and take a load off. You may want to make this a pre-dinner thing (as opposed to cute picnic-ing it), unless the smell of about 250,000 bats living under the same bridge makes you hungry. It’s crazy to see them come out for feeding and will be an experience you and your loved ones wont forget.Pro-tip: Dont tell your friend who is afraid of things like this what is about to happen. They will get over it once they realize the bats arent coming out to bite them, but instead to eat the bugs they probably also hate.
Make sure you are early enough to see them all fly out.
Really cool
Come out and see the morning sky get filled with bats. Bats everywhere!
They came out after dark so too dark to really see anything and mosquitoes were terrible
Unique experience!
So many bats! Quite the smelly sight.
