Great staff. Interesting exhibit, the place is rather small, but very clean and unique. Watch the videos about the car parades. Exhibition changes, so if you go and dont like the art, try again in a few months. Worth a visit for sure.
Amazing. Beautifully crafted. The cars are so dope. The art is a great addition. Catch them at the right time and a bunch of art cars may just pop up! Car standing from daisy images to mosaics, and even just pure art! The space is so warm and welcome. 10/10 recommend
This place was good for 5 star given the fact that entry for this museum is free. Dont have high expectation like I had :) They only have 3 art cars inside and they use to have them replaced with different ones every 3 or 4 months. One Fruits & Vegetables car outside with one age old race car which is not much impressive. There are so many rodeo photo gallery taken by Photographer Daniel Kramer. Hope this info is useful. And last but not least. Have a appointment scheduled before going. They are mandating appointments due to covid19 situation.
I love this museum. We always try visiting each time they switch out their art. I am hoping to enter in the next exhibit. I have never been disappointed with any of the art or themes. We still have yet to be in town when they have their parade but it is definitely a goal of ours to see one day. Even our son has loved this museum since he was very young. Im glad the changing art keeps him interested each year. The cars they have on display inside are always cool to see.
Such a beautiful place️ I didnt wanna leave
Free admission. Limited parking: drive around the block and plan on walking a block or so. Expect to spend 10 to 45 minutes. There are no signs or displays like most museums. There are three cars and art on the walls. Very clean, well-lit, cool building, classy place with a nice staff.
The Art Car Museum is truly a gem to visit. We were looking for things to do in Houston and it came up on multiple lists so we decided to give it a shot - 1) the top 10 things to do in Houston; 2) the top 10 things to do with kids; 3) the top 10 things to do in a rain in Houston; & 4) the top 10 things to do in Houston that are free!PRICE - The museum is totally free but you can make a donation..DURATION - It will take about 30-45min.PHOTOS - You can take as many photos as you like, you just can’t touch anything. ;-)CARS - There are multiple unique, funny, and interesting pieces. The “Bunny” Car was hysterical, a bit scary (not for Easter parade - it would definitely scare little kids ;-) There were 3-5 large cars in the museum and multiple art pieces. The museum displays different cars each year. At least two of the cars are functioning and take part in the Houston Spring parade.ART - Every year, the museum has a different theme and asks 100 local artists to submit their pieces. December of 2018 when we visited, the theme was “Animals.” The artwork was fantastic. There were so many great pieces.STAFF - One staff member explained the entire process to us when we came in. Another man was giving us some inside stories about each of the cars in the exhibit. Very nice - seem to love what they do.VIDEO - In the back of the museum was a video playing stories about people who make art cars. Some stories were recent but most were from the 80’s and 90’s. Some stories were very funny, some super crazy and some very inspiring.
A colorful, free museum that goes out of its way to provide a place for local artists to display their work. Definitely worth a look while youre in Houston. They also rotate the exhibits every few weeks/months so theres always something new to see!
A wonderful treat cars were beautiful, the displace were nice, free admission is always a plus, something to enjoy in 30 to 45 mins
Was hoping to see more than 4 cars. The photos of the rodeo were enjoyable.
This place is wild. I dont know how they even do some of the things to these cars. It is a cool walk through exhibit anyone needs to see at least once.
Very interesting place worth the stop. There is no parking so you will have to find a spot at the local shopping mall (not the gas station, they tow) Its air conditioned, clean and has a friendly staff. Its also free so be sure and leave a donation if you enjoyed.
Very nice place they honor us as guest and let us in without an appointment staff are very friendly
Out of everywhere we went in Houston on our vacation, this was by far our favorite stop. Super friendly staff, and really interesting exhibits. A lot of eclectic and off the wall stuff. Loved it!
Very small, just 3-5 cars inside. Suggest to couple the visit with other places as 20 min is good enough to cover the entire place. Its free and host are great
Really cool experience! Took the whole family. None of us are like into cars or car buffs - but this captured our attention for a good hour or so. The people there are really awesome. Enjoy a Art Car brew by St. Arnolds, a local brewery, once youre off the road!
COVID protocols: temperature checks, hand sanitizer, and limits on number of visitors at a time.
Free Admission. Right?! The Art Car Museum of Houston is in a great location near the Heights/Montrose area. Parking is available, but scarce, onsite... We parked at the strip center across the street. Inside is a wonderful collection of photographs, miniature art pieces, historical blurbs, and of course-- several art cars! They had an art bike and maybe 6 or 7 art cars the day I went. It is stunning!!! The level of commitment and attention to detail is outrageous. The staff is also extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I couldnt believe there was no admission charge for this level of gallery style museum. Id make this a must-see if youre in Houston visiting or if you have just lived there forever and have never been. Its extraordinary.
Amazing museum dedicated to car art. The changing exhibitions are definitely worth the visit as what weve seen is very unique and inspiring. Weve been given lots of information and stories related to the cars. Feel free to ask questions as they are all super friendly and passionate about the art.
Very creative art cars! You cant beat the cost. It is best to call ahead to reserve a time a slot. You could spend as little or as long as you want.
Really fun and interesting the staff said every few months new cars and art come in so we cant wait to come around March or April
A jewel in the middle of the Heights. There is a small permanent collection and shows which are usually quarterly. There is no fee. Always a fun time.During the”W” years FBI investigated. The art unlike any you’ll find anywhere else. The staff knows the art intimately the small space holds large experiences. Safety protocols are in place. Limiting number of people in but the shows are still continuing. The art is worth the trip.
Such an amazing experience! The inside of the museum smells like sandalwood and its got a great energy. A good place to take teens, but not kids (there was one sculpture that some parents may not feel is appropriate for their kids, but it was just one). Learned a lot about the history of art cars and each piece of art makes you think.
This museum was cool. The kids loved the different decorations on the cars along with the art work. The owners were super friendly and you could tell they were proud of everything inside.
One of our favorite places in Houghton. The art was beyond fascinating and that didn’t even include the cars! Staff was so nice. Will come back again ^_^
Disappointed that there were not very many are cars present, considering it is called the art car museum... Only 5 cars and only 1 could be called true art car.. photos of the featured photographer were good but nothing to do with cars. Were rodeo related. whole thing takes maybe 5 minutes To view and not museum for the cars.. cool to check out at least once..
Fantastic, way to spend an afternoon showcasing not just art cars but also many other art mediums from local artists.
We stopped here as part of our unique Texas art tour and loved it. Going to the Art Car Museum you know exactly what you are going to get... Artistic cars. We loved the houston history, level of detail on the cars and the additional artists represented at the museum. If you are touring around Houston then we recommend this stop.
Small but sweet. Awesome pictures
Very cute and packed ambience. They have amazing retro cars. They even explained about the art.
Loved it we didnt kno we had to do reservation to visit though it was free admission they allowed us to go in, we traveled for an hour to visit the place and would of felt bad if they would of said no but had the greatest experience with the greeter
Compact but well organized and informed. Highly recommended it to anyone.
Super cool museum. They give you a little speech when you walk through the door. They put out a call to local artists with a theme. They then chose the art cars which match the art the best. The employees are very knowledgeable about the art cars, some have even driven them. It’s a very cool place to go. Parking is limited, took about 30 mins to see everything but take your time and really look at the cars and artwork!
Great place to view some original art & its FREE.
A small but very good art museum. Admission is free. Parking is sparse but their is parking on the street. They have yearly parade that includes a lot more cars (check out the videos). The theme for the art on display changes every year. This year I believe it was landscapes. If you like cars and art this is a must see in Houston.
This is a very unique and free visit. We went last minute with kids and everyone enjoyed it. Some really cool work that had to take a long time to put together.
I really enjoyed it. There were a couple of old cars. One painted that matched the theme of the exibit. The art exhibit were photos of the Houston livestock and rodeo. Great photos.
Love the Art Car museum. They regularly change their exhibits and rotate the cars every few months as well. I especially like the area with photos and notes from fans. There is no fee to enter the museum but I strongly recommend making a small donation. Please like this review and follow me on Google for the next round of HONEST and UNBIASED reviews.
I love that artwork of cars with so many details and it’s very artistic.
There are only 3 cars on exhibit. The rest is wall art. Very nice wall art. But not what I was expecting. Free to get in. The staff was super nice and very informative.
Had a nice time here. Interesting art pieces
We had a great time. Very enjoyable
The museum is in an artsy, eye catching building. The theme - landscapes. There are different medias depicting landscapes. Several artists were available to answer questions.
This is a place you visit once a year, and come back the next year to see new strange and interesting exhibits, Its a 50-120 minute visit, but I enjoy going here.
Tiny but unique museum, staffs are super friendly. kids and adults love this small stop over when you are in H town, free of charge, a small donation is welcomed.
This place always has great Art from local artists! Awesome looking building and most important everyone is very nice. Oh and fits into everyones budget!!! FREE!
Super fun event today! Kids decorated their own art car! Plus fabulous art inside!!!
It is definitely a must-see place in Houston. I was so impressed with the collections and super warm hospitality of Alicia and John to the guests. Will be back to Houston because of this amazing museum.
A cute little place with very friendly people. Ill definitely go back!
It was a cool quick place to stop and see some cool cars. Classics and artistic cars. Plus its run by donations. So you can give whatever you kindly can, or see it all for free if you need a free date or are low on money.
A fun place that is free for all. You only need an hour at most and there is almost always a special show going on of some sort. The staff is fantastic, energetic and loves to answer any question. Seriously, this and the Menil are probably the two best museums in the city. No offense MFA.
Very cool museum, small but free to enter and they change it the cars all the time.
Its a nice, small, free museum with cool diverse art that changes all the time
We really enjoyed half an hour at the place. The works of art which were themed around Landscapes were extremely interesting and my kids loved the cars. The staff was very polite and helpful.
Awesome little museum! The art cars are made with exceptional detail! I truly appreciated the time it took these artist to perfect their art cars. Also, its free!!!
Great pop car museum. Beautifully crazy car art and a few other stuff too.
It was cute, but tiny. Its free though so I would check it out!
What a delight and surprise. The vehicles on display were facinating in design and execution. I have whizzed by the museum for ages and finally stopped by, wish Id gone long ago.
Really cool place to check out some outsider art, focused on cars. Free to the public. The film installation was perfect.
Cool Car Art museum. Theme changes, so make sure to visit!
The staff is very friendly and informative. They created a very welcoming atmosphere and the exhibits were entertaining. Its a small museum and parking is limited. I parked in a side street at the end of the block. But this place is more than worth the visit. Admission is free but they take donations too.
This is a place that ALL of Texas should come and visit. Although its a Lil small for a museum. I only say this because when you leave there you want more to see! The artist they choose are awesome. The Rat Rod Christmas show thats going on is better than the Autorama. The cars they showing are sick!!! The photos of Houston derby girls and metal fabrication artwork is top notch. And its FREE to see this. Wow how they do this? The staff was so educated on the art scene and very welcoming. Keep up the good work!Happy times at the museums 20th anniversary. Everybody needs to come and see this new group of talented artists cars, bicycles and wall art. Just a phenomenal group of artists congratulations and lets have another 20 + more years of bad ass art.
Small museum but very interesting. Take time to watch all the films offered.
Thank you for giving my daughter the opportunity to have her art work displayed. Cool place to go, and look at other art!
Compacted museum but worth going.
Wonderful, creative space open to the public. Such a valuable local treasure...30 years running. Dont miss out on this gem!!
Cool free art exhibit. Much more to see than just the cars, many local artist on display
I have lived in Houston for 27 years and I cant believe that I had never been here. I took my 4 year old and it was a fun experience for the both of us. Everyone is friendly and it was interesting to learn about the history of this museum. Will definitely return for future exhibits.
Amazing art. Nice place.
I brought my daughter here. Very interesting experience! The owner greeted us and gave us a small introduction of the place. This place was AWESOME!
Definitely a different style location. The staff is extremely nice. The cars are fabulous
Fun place to visit. Small space, can go through in 30 min. If no parking, keep circling until one opens up.
Neat cars and exhibits.
A true community gem. Not only was it cool to see the art cars, a breathtaking display of 3-D art, but I liked the pairing of the themed art exhibit (in this case, animals) and the selection of first 100 submissions allowing many under-represented artists of all ages and skill levels to exhibit together. What truly moved me however was the passionate docents who engaged visitors with additional information about the art and artists, but shared the mission of the owners to provide a creative outlet and artistic voice for this community. It was inspiring to meet people who wanted to make a difference in their community, who were so welcoming, and still so creative and whimsical. The art and art cars cycle so each experience will be different. The gallery is small and about an hour is a reasonable amount of time to see everything in depth and chat with the docents. Photography was encouraged. No admission, just a donation, which I was happy to give! They organize art car parades and other events too. Parking was very limited (we were lucky and got a space near the door), but take the time to find alternate parking close by - the museum is worth it.
Interesting, small museum using cars as art objects.
Fun place to check out only 3 stars because they only had 3 cars!
Quaint and beautiful gallery
Nice people here. Some seriously interesting art and a fun place to go for a quick stop by and take some pictures.
Always a terrific visit.
What a fun and interesting field trip for your family, or class if you are a teacher! The volunteers are very passionate and informed, and the art is very creative and fascinating! There is a good variety of work and some tantalizing pieces! We enjoyed it thoroughly!
Great Art and people to meet there
Smaller than we thought, friendly people though. Glad that it didnt cost anything, and I enjoyed the tire photos, but its not a must see in our opinion. If youre in the area its nice to stop by though.
The art car museum is pretty awesome . diffently worth going to when looking for a great adventure in houston.not the biggest museum but some really neat and different pieces. It contains more than just the art cars.no cost to get in,but always nice to put something in the donation box,at the end.go and have a great time, its worth it.
Really cool, interesting cars as well as photos, films, paintings and other art displays. Ask about the annual Art Car Parade and see video footage from past parades. Visit regularly as the exhibits change frequently to view the most spectacular cars imaginable. THIS IS A NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION SO PLEASE SHOW SUPPORT and its free but please dont touch these one of a kind masterpieces.
We went to Boston and wasnt sure of what to do with all our time during the day. Came across this cute little museum and was amazing. Exhibits were very interesting and you can just see the detail which goes into it. Id recommend if possible to see the parade, which we unfortunately missed. Furthermore, the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. Museum is for free with donations welcome.
If you live in Houston or visiting Houston the Art Car Museum is definitely a place to to check off your bucket list.
This was a fantastic museum with an interesting history and exhibits that were really out there. If you are interested in crazy unique things you should definitely go.
Neat free museum. I expected more art cars, but overall cool to see.
It was free, staff is really nice, and a cool place to check out. Also good for scenery, but just a bit too small
Unique and beautiful cars with paintings and welcoming people. Such a gem in my neck of the woods!
Really awesome place. Awesome art projects. Specially liked the singing fish car. Would definitely recommend this one for folks visiting Houston its a free entry. Awesome museum staff. Only issue I found was lack of parking, I had to park across the street at shops.
They have 3 parking spaces only. Its a free parking and free admission.Clean bathroom, and receptionist gives you brief introduction about the museum and exhibitions. It was pretty interesting, and we will get back to this place next time we visit Houston since their exhibition will be different every year. (You will find out the reason why once you get there. The receptionist will tell you)
Very few artcars to see. Our kids were not very thrilled. Other art displayed by kids. Note: no change table in the bathroom and no accommodation for changing anywhere else in the museum.
Loved it
