Nice educational place. Its good to know that we have an important place of history to visit close to us. Visit with Mrs. Claus during Christmas time is awesome. She walks the grounds and you might just bump into her. Lots of things to buy during Christmas. We miss the fall festivities because of covid. Go early though. They close the center around 3 pm.
Lots of cool things to see here. Whether inside the nature center or just walking the back 50, lots of wildlife... possibly every species of Midwestern tree. Bluebirds, robins all kinds of different birds. Everything nicely maintained and overseen by nice volunteers. Many opportunities to learn a lot of cool things and to stretch-out the legs! Great turtle pool.
I love the grove! They have nice trails and such a wide animal exhibit inside. That 100 year old turtle is the best!
The most amazing nature place in the area. This park is like a gate to another world in the middle of the busy urban area covered with asphalt and concrete. They have some small museum and houses that are more than 100 y.o. Most of the trails are natural, so walking there feels like a hiking in a forest. If youve never been there this gem is a must go place.
Gorgeous place to visit. The vintage cottage has amazing architecture and antique pieces. The employees are very helpful and kind. They practice all state rules. Its a beautiful site to visit.
One of the most Beautiful Nature Preserves I have ever been to. The expressway actually doesnt help in some spots but that wont affect the review here since that expressway was highly needed back in the day. Also Pokemon GO players should come here there is so much to do in this place, there are tons of weak gyms and lots of pokestops and pokemon that spawn.
The Grove is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is 145 acres of natural woodlands, wetlands, 200+ year old trees, serenely beautiful walking paths, historic buildings (including Native American) and a gorgeous log building Interpretive Center that was recently updated. The center is filled with historical artifacts and live animals. I attended the grand reopening center on Feb. 22, 2020
A hidden treasure! If a quiet walk in the woods is what you desire this place is it! Well marked trails wide enough for passing others safely!
Great place to walk around and explore, they have a great app that gives you history of the grounds.
Beautiful location I love photographing engagements and wedding photographs there. With mixtures of nature and historical scenery Its a fantastic spot for events to be held!
Great place to take a toddler. Walking and enjoying nature. Great place for a little picnic. Also a gigantic and very old turtle.
What a delightful Oasis after Thursday night traffic. Absolutely enchantment
Very nice displays. Not the largest but lots of different snakes and turtles. Be sure to check out the owl outside.
I have driven passed The Grove for years and didnt even realize it! It a great place to enjoy the outdoors and learn about the historical importance it has. The paths were a bit wet and muddy. It was a fluke of good weather in February, the pond was still frozen. Nonetheless, we grabbed the tours and enjoyed learning about the people and place. The house library is incredible. I loved that they have school field trips and teach the kids skills. Fun day.
It was a beautiful fall day at the Grove and it is the first time I have been back since the interpretive center reopened. The new and improved center are done right and a great amount of attention has been given to the life of Robert Kennicott who is one of the great naturalists of the 19th century. The Grove is a fantastic resource and we in glenview are lucky to have this in our community.
Nice well manicured trails back here and a good amount of parking make this a good stop for a walk in the woods. I didnt really check out the historical things but they are there as well. Near the back is a cemetery that abuts a new neighborhood that clearly isnt supposed to link up but theyll be able to access as well. Lets keep public spaces public instead of fencing them off eh?
Nice October day, trails well kept, tour of house informative...very nice.
Love this place. Its not usually crowded, has historical tours, and is a very peaceful place to take your family.
Awesome place for outdoor event! Great location, great people!
Thin is a very nice place and a great opportunity to get the noice of the city and daily Problems out of your mind. You can walk the Trail through the woods and lose yourself in nature. We saw several squirrels, one even just sat there eating, and a deer mommy with two kids. The redfield estate is a beautiful place and by the way a nice location for a Familiy party or wedding. Its worth a trip.
Great place where you can explore nature and trails.
Wonderful outside experience. Staff are great!
Just lovely, absolutely lovely. If I explain too much the feeling might disappear. I couldnt say how anyone else would feel about this place but it moved me.
Beautiful place to take a walk and also do photo shoots for all my photographers out there.
I was very pleased with the historical information posted and meticulous maintenance of this park. Very beautiful
A very nice place for a picnic and a long walk through the woods.
Beautiful walking trails are easy level and just the right length. The cottages are cute with some distinct architecture. check it out..During this fall season there are craft events and Christmas items to purchase. The gingerbread house has good food and they have a fish and turtle house!. so fun.
There is very nice for hiking with family, kids and friends.
Fun place for a nature walk. Great outdoor activity. Family friendly.
Such a beautiful place that I have had only good experiences at for years, So pretty and so education
Gorgeous area for walking trail walk shaded and for lunch
Excellent place. Especially for the family. Bring your mask!
Very cool place that I had no idea Existed ! A very nice lady brought some of their animals out to see up close and personal.Saw their 130 year old Snapping Turtle!Walked around outside for a bit, enjoyed a but of the Kennicott history, long houses by the Potowami tribe. Cant wait for Spring to see the all the green trees and wild flowers.
Great place! Lots of history. I’ve been going there since I was a kid and back in 2015 my wife and I got married there! Super historic place and a great nature preserve. Booking prices for events are SUPER reasonable. The place is clean in terms of events and ground cover. Great place to take the kids to learn about wildlife and be outdoors. They run events frequently and have a great re-enactment event in late summer. If you’ve never been or if you’re debating having an event there you should do it.
Awesome Place to enjoy Nature and learn couple of things!
Gorgeous place to visit and have a wedding
5 stars when its officially openm. Still had a wonderful, peaceful, quiet walk on the paths!
Such a fun place to visit and go for a walk with kids!
A quaintness unparalleled. Nice little park for a walk on a well paved path
This is one of the best places to take your family. You can walk the paths and run into deer, you can sit and meditate. You must go into the main building to see one of the oldest living creatures. Beside that you can watch snakes eating fish, other fish swimming around and eating what they can, or you can see the turtle pool with tons of turtles. If you’re lucky you might see some live birds as well. Don’t forget to visit the Indian village and market. I’ve been going there for over thirty years and still love seeing it all. They used to have civil war reenactments there as well. Please hit like if this was helpful!
Bringing the past into the present for future generations
This is a really beautiful nature preserve. Its a natural Prairie with wildlife and an interpretative center with species related to the area such as turtles, frogs, some snakes, and a huge snapping turtle. There are also demonstration areas where groups can learn about the Kennicot family who settled there as well as how the Potawatomi lived. Theres a log cabin where guests can see how the pioneers lived and you can tour the restored Kennicot home. Theres so much to see and do! If you go in the summer bring mosquito repellent!
This is by far my favorite place to see the change in seasons! Well worth a visit no matter the time of year - its always beautiful.Great for bird watching as well as seeing free roaming deer. In the warmer months a lot of chipmunks running around. The nature center is under reconstruction right now but they still have a great animal exhibit in a smaller house. If youre lucky theyll bring out their opossum for a walk in a leash! The trails are on the shorter side, but this is less for hiking and more for just experience great nature. A lot of oak and hickory growing here.
This is very unique and great place to go with family and ecological and historic site!
Scenic nature trails, great for a brisk walk or capturing nature on a leisurely stroll. Much more to see on the weekends when the various buildings are open, ie: school house, log home, Kennicotts house, Ridgefield Mansion, etc. The Interpretative Center is being renovated, so some exhibits have temporarily moved to the blacksmith shop. All in all, its an excellent experience and fun for all ages. Clean nature preserve which is great any time of year.
Great place to hike
Nice place. Main lodge has been under construction for a long time now. Very cool historical buildings and plenty of local wildlife on display.
Always great to just walk around and enjoy nature.
Lovely nature trails, frontier village and nature museum.
The new interpretative center is awesome. Staff is very helpful. Anxious to go back during the spring/summer
Very nice nature center. Buildings with Turtles, reptiles, fish, etc. Many nice paths with wooden walkways over Marsh areas. Wildlife is plentiful, saw two deer during our back 50 acre walk today.
Interesting area. Beautiful setting
Very nice meeting facility for smaller events. Beautiful grounds and the mansion is a perfect setting for an intimate gathering.
Green, clean, family friendly, easy to park & lots of trails.
A lovely oasis in Glenview which is part of the Chicago megalopolis. There is great history to learn about (e.g., Dr. John Endicott) and natural beauty as well.Great staff at the interpretive center as well.
Such an awesome place to experience the great outdoors . A great place to bring the kids . Stroll around in a peaceful setting . Also a lot of poke stops .
Good place for family hike.
Nice place to go hiking or walk
Great scenic walk. Thank you.
This is a wonderful family activity. Its free and there are plenty of things to see. They have reenactments during the day, a animal center to see the local wild life and miles of trails to wonder. And lots of Pokemon stops for those seeking a gym battle
We love coming to this place both in the summer and the winter. In the summer, you feel you are in the wilderness but conveniently located right in the middle of the suburbs. In the winter, its very refreshing taking a stroll in the snow trail. They also have an area with turtles, snakes, fishes, and other wild animals that you can get up and close to. Highly recommend a visit if you have never been there!
Beautiful wooded location for a special event! Staff and event coordinators were SUPER FRIENDLY and helpful. Cozy, but a bit space challenged.
My husband and I choose the Grove in 2018 for our wedding ceremony because is beautiful is all nature and is breath taking the first time you visit, we new we wanted to get married In the casibo when they show us the spots to get married, Deborah and Carol and staff where really helpful And friendly I recommend the grove if you wan to have a wedding ceremony everyone will love the experience and you will forever have amazing memories and good photographs.
We love visiting The Grove as a family. Perfect day out in nature.
Lovely grounds for walking, education center for children and today a great art show by Dennis Downes!
Just beautiful.
Well preserved preservation. Lots to see and learn
Its very interractive, it is a very nice place to take a walk.
Easy hiking trails and an Interpretive Center that has many live animals native to Illinois. It is a beautiful place to hike and explore. They also have an amazing location for weddings and events.
Its a small but pretty nature reserve/historical area. The staff were wonderful and it would be a great place to take kids to pass a few hours if you are in the area the whole thing can be seen in under 2 hours.
I cannot say enough amazing things about the grove! Such a great place to take a hike, explore with kids, and learn about Illinois history.
Very beautiful!
Love this place. No matter what time of the year you go, there is always something to do. Great visitor center, where you can observe live animals and learn about them. Short and longer walks through forest preserve, interesting pioneer time area and many more things to enjoy with The Grove.
It was quite closer to Wheeling and worked great to get our and see some nature for a short amount of time. The constant bus of traffic from the highway is not great. Totally worth it if you want to stretch your legs and see a sliver of the Midwest
Nice well run historical place. Very interesting to see the history of Dr. James Kennicott and his family.
A beautiful place to walk and shop for homemade wares of all types. They also have animals you can look at in a museum style building, including a beautiful great horned owl. Truly a remarkable place to get back in touch with nature.
Deer walked right by me when there once.
Nice quiet place
A fantastic place for all ages and all people. Great location, newly expanded, very well curated. Walking trails are a joy, look for very plump squirrels and large white tails. Facilities are old but well built. Interesting habitats and great place to make memories.
See my other review on Kennicotts Grove. This area is simply not to be missed!! Animal exhibits, trails, and a uniquely preserved natural ecosystem which ought to be treasured and preserved forever!!!
Looks nice
Love this its very interesting it has lots of reptiles which I like and find interesting
Lots of interesting things to learn and see. Very cool place. Exhibits and animals are really neat. I recommend taking a trip here if you havent been here before!!
The Grove is a wonderful resource for the community! Its a great place to take families and enjoy the outdoors.
Awesome place to go to and walk around. Inside of the place there are plenty of creatures to see. They have this huge tank with a huge alligator turtle in it and its over 100 years old if not more. Its a massive and incredible animal to see, you gotta see it to believe, Ive never seen anything that big before.
A perfect place for a stroll in the Fall/winter season.
Visited this place for camping out... Really adventurous and fascinating... Good hospitality... At reasonable prices/rates
A nature walk into the past.
The Grove is such a photogenic backdrop for all kinds of photpshoots, these are a few from a model portfolio.
Great, kid friendly trails, not too long. Just perfect for Sunday walk.Party venue is absolutely splendid, but highly overpriced. There are also kid friendly programs organized, as well as holiday market. They have animals....the small turtles seem to be ok, so are the snakes.Fish tanks overcrowded. The saddest view is the huge snapping turtle . this is no place for it. The center also has weird foul smell to it....
Such an amazing hidden gem. My visits highlight was the 120 pounds weighing turtle which is 124 yrs Old. AMAZING! Never seen such an aged turtle up close
Beautiful wedding ceremony held here would definitely recommend for anyone wanting an outdoor wedding
Beautiful place for photos
I was here for my cousins wedding and it was a beautiful venue for an outdoor wedding.
