Though Southern California isn’t as renowned for its wineries as the central portion of the state, it has undergone a wine renaissance of sorts in recent years.Located on Summit Drive in Escondido, about 20 kilometers southeast of Vista, Hungry Hawks Vineyard was founded in 2009 and grows more than a dozen varieties of grapes along the San Pasqual Valley.Hungry Hawks is considered a boutique winery. It offers visitors a variety of activity options, including vineyard and production facility tours and tastings.Even for casual wine drinkers, they’re great ways to spend a relaxing few hours immersed in amazing scenery, learning about wines and how to detect their subtle nuances.
Great wine. Great selection of reds and whites. Outdoor patio.
We sat outside (of course) and enjoyed a glass of wine ..... the music, a great guitarist was playing in the background ..... and the view of the San Pasqual valley over the vineyard. What a great afternoon of relaxation. Thanks
This place is great. Fantastic wine and pretty views! Nice covered patio. Laid back vibe with staff that really know their wine!
Great wine! Friendly atmosphere! Not far off the freeway, drop in for a glass and relax!
Best wines in San Diego County! Very extensive list if reds, whites and sparkling wines
Beautiful scenery, friendly service, lovely/chill music, and delicious wines made this a perfect addition to our day! No food available here, but bring your own or order from nearby :)
Love this place! Always enjoy theirgood wine and views.
Best local winery by far in San Pasqual area.
Its always wonderful to find somewhere new thats close to home and also great to visit. I always think that a limited number of wines, carefully made, with passion, is preferable to a long slate of wines, however varied they are. The team at Hungry Hawk were friendly, knowledgeable and passionate to share. We enjoyed a tasting plus a long picnic lunch (we brought ours from Brothers Provision in RB) on the terrace, overlooking the valley below. Highly recommended.
I would not recommend this particular winery. I will say their wine tastes great (in my opinion) and the view/amenities are noteworthy. Unfortunately, they are very overpriced ($15 per 5 pour tasting) and the those pours are tiny, amounting to about 4 sips. There are equally as nice wineries for much better value!
Amazing! I am not a big wine person, but I would definitely come back in a heartbeat. The view alone is worth it. My husband and I was looking for things to do and found this little gem. There was a warm welcoming feeling the minute we walked in the door. We decided to do the tasting and every wine was tasteful and refreshing. The associate facilitating the testing was very knowledgeable and friendly. We had the opportunity to talk with one of the owners who gave more insight into the property and process. This is definitely worth visiting. Stop in and have a drink!
This place was nice small area to taste, one bath, viewpoint only at one or two spots really to sit, champagne the best thing here. Family owned very nice but small seating area.
Small, cozy, family run vineyard and tasting room. Mike was more than accommodating and took plenty of time answering each of our questions. A comfortable and relaxing patio with great mountain views. The wine was delicious and you can tell great care was taken to craft each style. Decor wasnt to my personal taste but who cares. Definitely would go back for the Sunday sneak peaks.
Great wines and Incredible views! Staff is very friendly. Wonderful place to hang out with friends and listen to live music on the weekends.
We tend to taste only reds which was a selection of 3 at this winery. Enjoyed them, one in particular. There was a guitarist when we arrived which was very nice. He did a good job. We found a seat on a comfortable couch, enjoyed the music, drink and view. We did not ask but it appeared that people were allowed to bring their own food in.
Awesome family owned winery hidden in West San Pasqual Valley. I’m a huge fan of white wines, and my wife is a red fan. They have an excellent selection of both tiers sure to suit any palette. Their estate Albariño is my go to favorite, and the Super Tuscan is my favorite red. A must stop while out tasting in Escondido.
My husband and I were lucky to come across this sweet gem after our visit to Safari Park. The view from the patio was spectacular and perfect to enjoy this vineyards wine. Staff was generous to have us taste several wines before deciding on a bottle aaand then another bottle!
Everything about this place is simply amazing!!! All of the wines taste amazing; truly good quality wines!!! The staff is very friendly and answered any questions I had about the wine. The ambiance is quaint and spectacular!!! Loved the outside patio; a great place to sip wine and unwind. With an incredible view of the vineyards and the San Diego Safari Park. I cannot say how much I love this winery, a hidden gem that I hope will continue to flourish!!!
We were hoping to find a nice small local winery to support so went to Hungry Hawk. It is open a limited time so be sure and check times before you go. We wanted a nice place to relax & enjoy a glass. There was a very limited selection to chose from (4 total) I had a white (only one on the menu) my husband had the Estate Cab. Mine was just ok and I thought he was being overly critical about his - first they honestly gave him what I am sure was less than a 4 oz pour ($10). I ended up tasting his and he was right, it was barely drinkable. The staff seemed to not care if we were there or not - only focused on club members. We really wanted to like this place but we were both very disappointed.
Great Wine & Amazing View of the Valley if you sit outside.
This is not just a beautiful little winery, but also a very good winery. The wines here are all well made very balanced and tasty. The people here could not be nicer . I highly recommend this fine wine tasting experience.
Loved it. I took a VIP student/client to Hungry Hawk Winery over the weekend for a tour and tasting, and was impressed with every single aspect of the winery, the wines and the service. Our student was a winemaker himself in Spain, so he had a lot of questions. The staff at Hungry Hawk were clearly happy to answer everything. The facilities are air conditioned, so even on this hot summer day we were comfortable and could take our time seeing and asking about everything. The next time my schools have students for our California Wine Tour, well take them to Hungry Hawk for sure.
Wonderful spot. Super little family winery. They make some really tasty wine!
Excellent estate grown small batch wines. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable owners. Go here on your way to the wild animal park.
This is a great local winery and the staff are all fantastic!
