Healing begins from within, and it takes work. I met 2 beautiful people today, Eric and Kris, they welcomed me into the church with open arms, and allowed me to peacefully fulfill my spiritual needs today. Such and amazing experience. Kris gave me a book called rediscovering the saints, by author Matthew Kelly, I think she could feel that I was finding my way back, and that this book would help me. I made a donation for a candle I felt happy to receive these blessings, they also offer holy water so I will be returning with a beautiful bottle to collect some. Eric gave me the warmest hug Ive felt in years, he was really warm and accepting he had the spirit of love and acceptance all over him. He made sure to make me feel welcome and asked me to return anytime I wanted to. Eric and Kris touched my soul. I am so grateful for my experience today.

I can not describe how beautiful and serene this church is....the pictures will explain its beauty and architecture. The atmosphere was great....I attended wedding of a family member. The ceremony was conducted in a disciplined and time bound manner that included beautiful singing and readings. The Pastor spoke so well about the meaning of marriage explaining the duty and responsibility that comes with it for both the bride and the groom. It was a wonderful experience.

A truly beautiful old Catholic Church, a true honor to serve there as a Knight in the noble order of Knights of St. John International. The Priest conducts his blessed vocation as a compassionate yet stern servant who stands in the place of Christ, (persona Christi) It has a true old world charm to it, like something out of Lord of the Rings in a wonderful old blue collar Polish neighborhood. The moment there feels like a romantic place out of time, like C.S. Lewis stated, The present moment is as close as time will ever get to eternity

What a beautiful church! The food was fantastic and the food was absolutely delicious! I took my family for the perogi festival in August. The festival was lots of fun. There was live music, a polka band. The good vendors sold a variety of Polish specialties. The was also a kids play area and several vendors selling Polish apparel. The only reason I didnt give a 5 is because of the potato pancake fiasco. The sweet older ladies took my money and gave me the number 81. Well, the people making the pancakes were at 51. Over an hour later, chaos ensued and some tempers started flaring. At that point I told my girls that we were leaving. I wasnt there for drama and I considered the money a church donation at that point.

Beautiful, historic church. Almost no neighborhood left around this church but it is thriving due to parishioners choosing to attend and support even though they live in other communities.Beautiful Christmas Eve Mass at midnight. Fantastic Pierogi Festival in August with Flea Market, Live music. Other events throughout the year..all successful and well attended.

So beautiful, a wonderful historic church that felt very warm and peaceful. A must see if traveling please go and support this church so it survives for many generations. The church is dedicated to Mary and clearly you can feel her influence here, our brief stay made a lasting impression on me. I love this church.

Sweetest Heart of Mary is a holy and devout Catholic church of worship. The masses offered at Sweetest Heart are imbued with solemnity, devotion and sacredness. God Bless this church; as well as St. Josephat, and the pastor and spiritual leader, Fr. Greg Tokarski.

Absolutely stunning. I have found a paper of mine among some others in which I call architecture petrified music. Really there is something in this; the tone of mind produced by architecture approaches the effect of music. - Goethe

Its a beautiful church as is St. Alburtus down the street. Both churchs need our support. The Archbishop said the mass today. The choir was exceptional ! The festivities included Polish food (Pierogi Festival), great Polish bands, people dancing, and mid-way area with simple games, & lots of Polish ware, & free parking! Because of the warm weather, & no air conditioning in the church, casual dress is accepted. Think- Golf type attire ( yes shorts, no ripped up cut off bluejeans/tank tops please). Its a fun time for all ages.

A must see for ANYONE especially those of Polish descent!!! Words cannot even begin to describe the magnificent architecture. Pierogi Festival in August is a must. Various fundraising dinners throughout the year in conjunction with Mother of Divine Mercy Parish. Small close knit parish atmosphere/community. Also visit St. Josaphats. Put St. Albertus on your agenda, too. The latter is in dire need of restoration in order to save from further deterioration. All three are within 3-4 blocks of each other. Awe inspiring jewels of Detroit and Polish History!!

Went here for a baptism, had my newborn child with me. It was during mass. They used an overly excessive amount of incense. Incense are highly toxic, especially to infants and asthmatics. Never again. I felt horrible for the alter boys who had to have literally smoke inhalation from how much incense they had to spread around that place. I had an asthma flare up because of it and walked out middway through mass coughing like crazy.

There are so many amazing old churches in Detroit, and this is one of them. As many others have noted, the stained glass is stunning, as is the entire altar area. If youre visiting other churches near downtown, this one is worth the trip as well. I just wish they kept building churches like this.
