Amazing place, good people, good staff and great times!
What I like about this venue:Great pizza as soon as you walk through the doors.Bowling.Bathrooms are much improved. Not a bad seat (well, it’s mostly standing room ) in the house.Nice rooftop deck for some fresh air or to cool off.The biggest surprise was how nice the staff was tonight. Everybody from security at the door, to ticket people, to people bussing tables were really very polite and enjoyable! How many other Detroit “clubs” can say that!?What I don’t like:I wish it was closer so I could check out more of the great bands that pass through there!
The outside bar is a lot of fun! The pizza is good too!
HUGE second floor music venue with every band you could ever love. Very Highly Recommended !!!
Always a fun time with great music upstairs and a bar, bowling alley and food downstairs. I go here frequently as they sell tickets for reasonable prices. Will be going back in the future!
Magic stick has been my favorite venue for a few years now. This venue just never disappoints. There is parking everywhere around the venue & it never gets too packed inside. Bar service is pretty great too. Ill always reccomend coming here for a good time.
Look, as a venue it is... fine. Good, even. Big space, decent bar, nifty light feature and even a patio to chill out on, but its still a cement box with no real discernable vibe or cool art that stands out.Clean bathrooms, and right upstairs from a pizza joint, so that is nice.
Ive been to 3 shows here and will continue to do so - plenty of space, Im happy with their sound system, 4 bars total I think, and a solid outdoor rooftop area when you need some air
Fabulous, fun, and safe. I have enjoyed myself thoroughly every time I have come here.
Been seeing shows here for years and never had a bad show. Its my favorite venue in Detroit.
I love Vita the bartender
Great service. Sgt Pepperonis Pizza is worth the wait. Upstairs light banks amazing.
I love this venue. Sound quality is excellent and well engineered. If you smoke its great that you can still jam out to the music on the upsairs porch with your drink. The crowd is generally respectful and its always easy to get a drink or use the bathroom. Not the best beer selection but the prices are reasonable. Staff is friendly. Honestly one of my favorite music venues in any city.
I love it here. Theres pizza bowling and booze. What more could you ask for?
Cool venue. Cool light show. Great outdoor patio. It would be nice if they lowered the volume of the music outside a bit. It would be a great place to chat in between sets, but its a bit too loud.
Such a unique venue!! Loved the feel and atmosphere. However when someone in the crowd started seizing and it was addressed by the artist on stage, it took over 10 minutes to get her out of the crowd. For majority of that time there was no security or venue staff even involved in the situation.
Ive been here a couple dozen times. Im a concert goer and concerts are the highlights of my year. I dont listen to the trash on the radio so my experiences at this venue are of expertise and professionalism. The theater is on a great piece of land. Its right downtown and I made a whole day of walking around down town, getting a bite to eat and a few drinks at the local bars. Just a few miles from the river. The staff however, I could do without. The bar tenders are perfect but the hosts at the doors need a good smack. Rude. Unprofessional. And tedious to be around. If I owned this establishment Id fire these losers.4 star experience.
Customer service was decent, couldve maybe been a little better. Restrooms was okay, couldve been better, merchandise stand was in a decent area I guess. Space inside was huge, convenient food downstairs. Would try again and might even tell friends and family to see a show here.
Great venue for live music. Very intimate and cozy. The outdoor patio is a nice spot to take in the city and cool off. The drinks are overpriced like any music venue so get yours before the show.
Still the best place for Live Music in Detroit. Have been seeing shows here for several decades now and have never had a bad time. I once saw Paddy from Dillinger 4 get so wasted he puked on himself and couldnt finish but 3 songs. Saw Arcade Fires first tour as well as Blowfly. Was there recently for a dance party and was just a impressed by the young kids. Got to talk to the new booker has some really cool electronic and DJ shows in the works, but if he gets to put in 1/2 of the shows he has planned we will be back often for some 1st class.
A favroite venue of mine. When its sold out its crowded af but still so fantastic. Love the patio.
Love this venue. Awesome showz and great zza downstairs.
Very dope venue. Alot of space. Cool light set up
We went there and saw burlesque The Sweet Spot and it was so much fun. Especially when I didnt know what to expect because it was surprised from my boyfriend and the first thing I saw on the seats when we got there were condoms and Im like thinking where the hell or what the hell am I at. But it was a great time and its definitely a do again.
This place has been completely revamped from the last time I was here. The bathrooms are nice, the patio area has plenty of chairs and tables for downtime between bands if youre a smoker and want to go outside or just for fresh air. The sound system was great for the metal show I went to, I could hear all the instruments and vocals clearly, security was visible, and getting In was super fast if you had your tickets printed or on your phone.
Excellent place to catch a show good production and lots of bars. Can get crowded so if there’s a DJ you like I recommend getting tickets in advance. There’s a bar outside covered that also has a DJ booth and usually features local acts. Excellent venue! One of the best in detroit!
My first time at Magic Stick was incredible! Ive seen tons of live music venues around the country, Michigan specifically, and this one exceeded my expectations! Would love to come back in the future!
This is a really unique venue. We came into town from Cleveland for the Death from Above concert and were really impressed. Bowling alley on the ground floor, concert on the second, and a rooftop bar. The bar had cheap beer choices and the pizza parlor on the first floor hit the spot at the end of the night. Definitely suggest you check it out when in town.
Great venu! Always have so much fun.
Great venue. Ive been to a few shows here and always have had a blast.
Nice little rooftop with a bar to dance and enjoy local entertainment. Overlooks Wayne State University.
Tonight was my first time at this venue and Id love to come back! Im impressed with the ceiling lights, I dont think Ive seen that very often in concert venues. Its a good size and the acoustics are pretty good. We had a couple drinks and pizza before going upstairs for the Jukebox the Ghost concert. The pizza was delicious and the drinks were decently priced. Also this place has great, friendly staff!
Great music venue with a solid sound system. Came here from Toronto area to catch a bass show (Charlesthefirst & Minnesota). It is so refreshing to be around friendly staff & visitors while being inside a venue that takes sound quality seriously. It did not go unnoticed, and I plan on coming back in the future!
Absolutely loved it! Drove 3 hours away to see snow tha product in concert not only was it an amazing venue it had a balcony that overlooks the city! Loved it
Look this is not a place where you will want to go every day, but it is an iconic club in Detroit that has been going for as long as I remember. You can party here as much as you want. As long as your not violent, security will leave you alone. Mostly catering to underground music, it brings in national acts constantly. It also houses local talent. This is a Detroit staple and shows here can be a lot of fun. I have friends that come from New York for Movement every year and they absolutely love this place. Plenty of paid secure parking. Definitely a place to go to see a band or DJ. Intimate, but big. Good sound and subtle lighting. Great venue.
I love the small venue size, the wooden floors, the sound, the pizza downstairs, & its just an awesome place to see live music.
This was a pretty cool venue:) its a bowling alley downstairs, and a music venu upstairs. There is a main room, and then there is also an outdoor side stage. It was very cold, and snowing when we attended, so they had the outdoor area enclosed. This was problematic, however, as people were just smoking in the enclosed area, rather than going outside of the enclosed area. O couldnt breathe. Other than that, this was a very cool spot.
The band If Walls Could Talk played here July 15th and are now off on their tour. I believe the building is the oldest bowling alley in America. Food and bar downstairs and a concert area upstairs.
Good place to see shows and bowling down stairs in the oldest bowling alley in the country!
Outstanding shows, along with amzing staff.
What an awesome venue! First time here and will definitely be back for many many more shows! A small venue with 4 bars and out side seating and bar option is an awesome option! Anyone in the Detroit area who has not been here is missing out!
By far my favorite music venue in detroit. Outdoor bar with screened in area and plenty of chairs/tables in rooftop smoking section. 2 bar service counters inside. Awesome LED bar array above your head in the crowd. Ill go see artists I mildly like here because the experience of this venue is always great. For context I avoid Majestic/Masonic/Fillmore unless its one of my favorite artists and I have to go.
Good time. Long bars.
Nice spot! A friend of mine took me recently.Got a free slice of pizza too!Saw a poster there for a free slice of pizza from the L-Network. I downloaded the App & saw an ad for a free slice of pizza!
What can i say about the Magic Stick?! Ive been here so many times for shows. This place is always a great time weather youre into punk, industrial, dubstep, rock, techno, blues, you name it! The Magic Stick transforms into the perfect venue to host a wide variety of events! Youd be stupid to sleep on the Magic Stick.
Space Jesus and sodown and swmrs were all accompanied so well by this great bear. Makes me wish I still smoked cigarettes, ashtrays everywhere, spacious patio i love it haha keep up the good work
Decent venue. Its upstairs and had a huge patio too. They only served can beer and went for the normal price at concerts. I did see someone up there in a wheel chair but Im not sure how they got them up there. Ill go there again if they have a band I like. Get there early because parking is at a scarce and a premium.
Simply put its a great venue that also happens to be a bowling alley. Its small enough where you feel a part of the show if youre going there for a concert and bug enough not to be bogged down by the crowd. A nice added bonus of going there is that the pizza place below the venue is actually pretty good of you need a quick bite to eat
Ive been coming here for almost 10 years now for concerts. Saw Peter Murphy, Los Growlers, Girl in a Coma and others. Newly revovated. Great outdoor patio. Bells beer. Family owned.
Cant express enough how much I love this venue! The shows are amazing here!
Really had a great time at Magic Stick at the Majestic theater for prom. Soul skate 2018 was amazing. All the skate rinks were crowded. And I enjoyed every event. Groups from several states Georgia,Atlanta, Jersey, New York, Ohio, Detroit, California and other places really enjoyed skating.
Music of all shapes and sizes abound here. Especially electronica.
Always a great time seeing live shows here. The sound quality is pretty great for a small venue.
My first time in this place and I like it very much. A bowling alley in the first floor plus a pizzeria and in the second floor a stage, and a big dance floor; with 3 drinking bar plus a roof top patio. What else do you want for a good weekend day with friends.
What a great venue! Never been here before, and I was surprised at how nice it was. Located on Woodward Ave. Near the Wayne State University campus and the Detroit Medical Center. The magic stick is located on the second floor of a bowling alley, Pizza shop in a nice hipster area. The concert I went to see was Suffocation, Cattle Decapitation, Krisiun, and Visceral Disgorge. Awesome show, I never expected to see a death metal show in a venue that was as cool as this, usually I have to see metal bands in really sketchy areas, in dumpy venues that have seen better days. I would definitely see more concerts here. 5 metal horns for this place.
Great concert spot, with great pizza and bowling. Highly recommend this venue one of my favorites, and one of the best in Michigan.
Had a blast. I was at a great concert to see Westside Gun, Conway The Machine and Benny The Butcher. I even seen a old friend Apollo Brown as one of the special guess.
Awesome venue for punk shows. Pizza downstairs is pretty good too. Always have a good time here.
I have always loved coming to shows here. I love the atmosphere, always sounds decent, also love they bowling alley, bar, and deli with tons of vegan options downstairs! I’ve had one of the best vegan pizza’s ever here.
Great pizza but pricey drinks
This is a great venue, one of my all time favorites. Its big enough but not too big, good staff, host to some good events and live music. It is also very accessible and has a secure lot for parking for a small fee. Ive been coming here for years and will continue to do so for years.
Customer service was decent, great show, tons of space inside and out, bathrooms where attended and looked clean and decent, food downstairs and drinks available everywhere pretty much.
Great place to go to if a band you like is playing there.
Cool place to hang out
Great place for a dj set!
So much variety, indoor, outdoor, games, dancing.. bartender made me an awesome non-alcoholic cocktail as a designated driver!
I had a great time. Friendly staff and security.
Amazing memories! Special vibes. Soo much love for detroit and the music scene/culture. Magic stick legendary
I have been frequenting Magic Stick for about 20 years. I can remember when parking was just $3 and $5 dollars, lol! Its too bad the Majestic Cafe closed. The entire complex is an old favorite of mine. I like coming here for bowling, beers, concerts (The Alley Deck and the Majestic also). They usually play pretty good music, sometimes Punk Rock! Grab a slice at Sgt. Pepperoni. It is a Detroit classic. They make great pizza!
The magic stick, was insane. It was easily one of the best times Ive ever had at any nightclub slash bar slash restaurant slash eatery of all time. I went on New Years Eve because my friend was playing a show and the amount of people was so crazy but not too much where you feel uncomfortable. The setting was clean, the bathroom was the MOST CLEAN BATHROOM Ive ever been in at a club. The guy working the bathroom was cool as hell even though I had very little to tip him. Drink werent over priced, they were reasonable and the bartenders and staff overall were enjoyable and fun and didnt seem like they hated their jobs like every other bouncer does. If youre looking for some where hot, low-key, but also just a grand time, MAGIC STICK IS THE SPOT.
Pretty bland venue with a couple clapped out couches and an old pool table. VIP was okay. A pleather couch but there didnt seem to be a limit to number of people per VIP booth and the people next to us were blocking our view and standing uncomfortably close. Its not a large space and theres maybe a foot between the VIP couches.Security were the absolute worst part of the night though. The show was starting very, very late. The guy was legitimately yelling at people walking in and being confused why they couldnt go upstairs 90 minutes after the doors were supposed to open. There were a couple times security wasnt around so I went to tell newcomers curiously making their way upstairs to what should have been an ongoing show. The security guy reappeared out of nowhere and made them stand outside. There were probably 20 to 30 of is waiting in the dining area of the bowling alley but because they dared touch the stairs, they were sent to wait outside in the dead of winter.
I love the Magic Stick. This place always has great location musicians and is just an all around cool place to hang out. Never had a bad time at the Magic Stick.
10/10 would recommend
This venue does not seem to be in a very safe place. There were many homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk and others following people, begging for change. The inside of the venue when you first walk in is very cramped. The room for concerts is a good size though. My 2 biggest complaints are smoking, and staff. Theres an outdoor deck connected to the main event room that people use to smoke but the door is left wide open which makes the smoke blow right into the crowd of people. I have asthma and allergies to the smoke and it made it hard for me to breathe and have a good time. The staff was very rude to me. I was at the front by the stage, waiting for the concert to start and I sat on the edge of the stage just like everybody on either side of me. There were at least 12 other people sitting on the stage. A crew member came up to ME and yelled at ME for sitting on the stage. He didnt yell at anyone else. I wasnt sitting on any equipment. I was on the very edge of the wooden stage. Not hurting anything. It would have been fine if he had told everyone to get off the stage but that wasnt the case. The ticket collector was very impatient with me when I first came in. I was first in line and I had a boot on my foot from a sprain. (Mind you, I had to climb up a steep flight of stairs to get to the event room already.) I was walking a little slower than normal because I was in a little bit of pain and this guy clearly saw that I had a boot on my foot. He then proceeded to say loudly and sarcastically, Could ya move any slower. If I hadnt already driven for 45 minutes to get there and paid for my tickets, I would have walked right out at that. Ive been to a lot of small venues around Michigan and this is by far one of the worst ones Ive been to.
My favorite venue it can get a little warm but the patio is a great escape great music excellent sound great lights for visuals the staff could be friendlier but ive never been mistreated beyond general grumpiness
Just went here for the first time a couple weeks back. It was a great venue to catch a show.
I love what theyve done with the place. Much nicer venue now with a bigger stage and multiple bars. The sound was good too. Overall, a great place yo see a show.
Great venue with multiple bars and an outdoor stage. Always a good techno party.
I Love it, always a good time.
Although I may never attend another Paxahau event in life. They ruined a potentially wonderful night. I have to say the Magic Stick and the place is wonderful.
Great venue concert was insane
Favorite venue for all things edm. Sound system is spectacular, bathrooms are easy to get to, staff is always friendly.
I love this venue! Small and intimate with good sound. It was a little hard to find the door, but thats my only complaint .
Great great venue, even better people here
Had free entry to a show this past weekend if we got to the venue before 10:30. My friend and I came from a ways away and the weather was bad so the drive took a bit longer than expected. Still got there before 10:30 but the bouncer and bag check held us up which led to us arriving at the ticket entry at about 10:32. Two minutes after free entry. We were told that the free tickets were no longer able to be accepted, so I had to pay $40 for two tickets. Very upsetting experience I’m just glad the music made up for it, won’t be returning. If we’re in the building before 10:30 then tickets should’ve been free, your staff held us up and now I’m short $40 bucks. Usually don’t do bad reviews for places but i just need to warn others that they are cheap here!
The magic stick is know as a music venue but they also have a pretty dependable vegan/vegetarian food options
Second year at THAW. I walked into the venue with a handful of flowers wilted from the cold and one of the door guys asked me if I was giving dead flowers to somebody inside. I told him yes, I just need to blow on them and theyll come back to life. Had a good laugh. The workers ive interacted with are efficient and respectful. The security may shine a light in your face but they dont mess with you if you dont mess with them, felt pretty safe at a queer disco event.
