The Dam is my favorite running spot here in Columbia. I believe the path is right at 1.5 miles one way. Of course the scenery is amazing, the track itself is always clean & more than spacious
I was about to take my 7-year-old daughter & her 10-year-old friend the a water park when I realized time had slipped up on us so I took them to Lake Murray Public Park since we were only 10 minutes away after picking up her friend. They both loved it & had a great time playing in the sand on their beach & cooling off in the water creating splashes just for fun. Make sure you bring food & drinks (especially on Sundays because the concession stand is closed on Sunday) with plenty of sunscreen. Only $3.00 to enter with picnic tables covered & under covered. Enjoy
Get out of the house and enjoy yourself. Lake Murray is a great place to relax and pass the time away. Young and old will like being out in the sun looking at and playing on the water. Free fun for all, fishing for the sportsman, boating for the water activites or just a drift on the water. The damn is nice for the walk and many use it for this. Get out of the house and enjoy life! No excuses.
I guess if you need a safe place to walk its good. But theres a very busy road right next to where you walk. The lakes beautiful but the road in noisy.
Very peaceful and relaxed. I took my puppy and we ate a small picnic while we watched a few people fish.
Usually windy, so if u have one-time use plates etc., they might fly off easily. Fly is another problem I faced while eating food but not so much at other times. Lovely place with good sitting arrangement and small family picnic facility. Normal entry fee $5.
Fantastic location close to the capital to check out lakeside life. A well kept park with plenty of picnic tables and charcoal grills to afford family and friends a cozy place with beautiful views allowing for a day time escape. The location has a boat ramp, fishing dock and a ramp for kayaks and canoes.
I found it peaceful & convenient to find & get to. Has boat landing & small pier.
Great place to sit and unwind. Enjoy boating kayaking wakeboarding Etc. Beaches currently not open due to the pandemic but the lake is always beautiful
Me, my fiancee, my mom and her bf came and cooked out. It was fun, quiet, not a lot of ppl. The only down fall was the restrooms were closed due to covid 19. Oh and the swimming side was closed due to the pandemic. Boating side was open. Still a good place to go.
Beautiful lake, but the walking path is along a busy 4 lane highway.
Easy boat ramp access. Sometimes the lines can be long to unload and load the boat, but I still use it most times I go out on the lake.
I enjoy Lake Murray. This side has picnic tables, a fishing pier, boat ramp. Across the dam is a swimming park. You can also walk across the dam. Its about 2 miles. Some times we just come up sit and watch the sun set!!!
We launch or boat hear out of shear convenience..The parking, ramp and staff not the best or helpful at all...Its a mess trying to get in, around, and out of this place..This lady lunched a boat and left her truck and trailer on the ramp.., when informed the lady security/ staff thats job is to WATCH the ramp she finally looked up from her phone and... DID NOTHING.If people would follow rules and directions this wouldnt be so challenging.. or actually have staff that do something.
1.5 mile walkway across. Safe. Nice picnic area
Beautiful views of the Lake and the dam is always impressive. Great, safe running and walking set on the dam itself with parking at either end.
Awesome place to jog! It has a bathroom as well. About 1.5 miles long.
Beautiful! That it all. Absolutely beautiful
This is a wonderful place for recreational activities for all kinds of people, the runners, boat enthusiasts and the barbeque-rs.
Great place to launch but for some reason they have closed the bathroom.
Yes you have to pay, but well worth it!! It was like the Wild West last weekend. So glad the Staff is back.
Great place to walk our dog.
Great place to fish and meet people!
Wide flat path for walking or jogging. Not too much else to say.
I found the area to be clean and well maintained.
It was the stormy day and just sitting and watching the white caps rolling over the waves was absolutely beautiful and so very soothing to frazzled nerves,no one on the lake except one sailboat,it was a gorgeous sight...
Love waking the day! Especially during sunrise or sunset. Bring your camera and earphones. Walk it listening to your music, and be prepared to take some pictures
Three ramps all equally great to launch a boat. Decent dock. Parking seems to be an issue for most people that use this place. They block the road with their trucks and trailers making it hard to exit. They cant seem to park in the marked spaces. Cars are using the boat trailer parking spaces when there are clearly signs stating their intended use. Wish they would enforce their Towing rules that are posted. You will see an overabundance of inconsiderate people here.
Great place to get exercise and enjoy the breeze off the lake.
A great place for picnics, boating and fishing.
Nice, quiet place to sit and enjoy the ambiance. There tends to be less noise and traffic than the shore side park since there is no shore access. There is a boat launch and kayak access and fishing on the pier. There are covered and uncovered picnic tables and a restroom. Costs $3 to park during the day most days but the gaurd isnt always on duty, especially after 5pm. The park does close but the fishing pier and boat launch dont. The park has access to the dam walk which is great for walking and running but doesnt allow dogs or biking.
Beautiful day to visit the lake. Was a bit crowded to me...
Could be kept cleaner, but beautiful view and plenty of apace
Beautiful,nice,friendly people good fishing
Beautiful place to have a picnic and go fishing
Great place to chill & great for putting boat in!
Beautiful place to relax did not catch any fish . But really enjoyed the view and parks.
Very nice place
Nice and peaceful in the evenings. Great sunset
So beautiful to be out at the lake.
Nice place to bring the family. They have picnic tables, restrooms, beautiful views of the lake and of course the walkway across the dam. Great place to exercise while enjoying the beautiful views of the lake.
Great park, beautiful view, lots of sitting possibilities and grills
Relaxing place nice beach too.
Great place to watch sunset and spend time with family and friends!
Beautiful waterfront area with a nicely paved path across the dam. A concrete barrier separates pedestrians from the adjacent traffic. Unfortunately, a sign at the start of the path states only service animals may be taken on the path.
Sureen beautiful peaceful...
Amazing views of the lake and Dam, always some hustle and bustle going on and in the lake. Jet skis and boats coming in and out of the lake. People fishing on the lake shore and dock. There were some scuba divers there too. There are grills for cooking and shelters for picnics along the shoreline. The shelters and park itself is very well maintained.
Good fishing spot good views n a boat ramp
Love the walk and view. Im new to this area, and I am looking forward to warm days and lake walks. Beautiful area!
The dam is such a great place for running; especially with a stroller as its smooth and even. If you park on the Irmo side there are bathrooms and just a nice place for a picnic and for the kids to play.
Beautiful park. Bathrooms and BBQs plenty
Wonderful place to spend your evening.
Georgeous and peaceful. Great place to relax.
Great area for the family, friends or even alone. You can go for a jog, run, fishing, etc.
It was not busy which was great, but I was surprised that they charged for parking when so many other launches in the lake are free. The launch itself is really nice to use. They have three lanes to load/unload your boat. As long as propel pay attention to the signs, it’s great. Easy in, easy out. I just wish people would not park in the turnaround. It’s made for boats with trailers and when people park there, it makes it really hard to maneuver your vehicle around.I would recommend, but not when busy.
Beautiful park. Nice fishing pier. No swimming though.
Peaceful and beach like feel. Plenty of activities can be done. Lake has so many picnic spots. Columbias pride.
It is always a good place to take the kids for some outdoor time. The views are great, especially at sunset or on a kayak!
Great place to have lunch, boating & fishing
Bathrooms were closed due to covid. An inconvenience.
Beautiful sunset.
3 dollars per vehicle. Lots of parking for trailered boats. 3 bay launch makes getting in and out pretty quick. Would be nice if there was a larger dock or another one a similar size to the existing one. The dock can fit around 6 boats but it still gets crowded. Overall a very nice boat launch. If you are looking for a sandy beach you will need to go to the other side of the dam. Im tired of seeing little kids playing on the boat ramps.
Pretty view of the water and allows for boating and fishing.
Its an amazing man made lake with sandy beaches, boardwalk, BBQ facilities & lots more.
Nice place to launch our 16ft boat, but I dont love the sharp turn at the end of the parking lot. People like to block the area and not leave a lot of room to turn. Nice bathrooms, and picnic areas.
Beautiful and serene.
I liked it and the idea of the kayak dock but it could use a swimming area, if you like to fish and kayak its the place to go
Best sunsets in Columbia. Clean, well kept park with plenty of free off-season parking.
Had a great time at lake Murray State park
Convenient and I feel safe coming here to walk the dam.
We were in town for the weekend looking for public access to the lake where we could bring our dog. This place was a big letdown. The shoreline has big rocks up and down and swimming is against the rules. They turned a blind eye to people wading in the areas near the stone steps, but it is the only spot where you can get in the water at all. There is a nice view of the water from the picnic tables, but if you plan to spend any time actually in the lake you’ll be disappointed. The google photo depicting a sandy beach is from the wrong location!
Beautiful hang out and relax space
Easy in and out boat launching. Good parking. Newly replaced dock. Clean restrooms. Attractive picnic area. All for $3 per car!
This is a great, safe spot for a walk or run. Plus a wonderful view of the lake.
A mustif you live in the midlands. Safe, secure and a scenic place for a stroll.
They never used to charge and now they are charging a fee. RIDICULOUS!
It has a little beach to swim and plenty of food to purchase if you like. I saw people with their grills and coolers just some good ole family fun.
Great place to walk
No place to swim. Just sharp and/or slippery rocks.
It was an amazing experience. 3 dollars for car parking not bad. No pets allowed i love it . no random poop everywhere. Bring lots of drinks tho there are 2 gas stations near by. One walking distance. Remember to always stay alert.
Best place to visit if in Columbia.
I Love sneaking away to the Dam to Relax!
Is beautiful when I have family Whit my
Great place park for checking out Lake Murray dam
Great views of the sun rise
Great place for exercise.. 3.4 mile trail over dam.
Very nice on the picnic side of the dam. Lots of shady trees, plenty of picnic tables, but there is no swimming allowed in that area. The swimming area was on the other end of the dam, but it was closed on September 7th...........90 degree beautiful weather.
Great are to bring your family and friends.
It’s an awesome waterfront park with an abundance of outdoor picnic & grilling areas. There’s multiple spots for fishing, a kayak dock & boat ramp areas.
