This review is not reflective of my typical experience at the theater. I went to a 445 show with my mom who has a rewards card through the theater. She had enough points for a free movie, and she asked the man who was working as the ticket taker about her points. He said I dont know anything about points until the receipt prints out. And I asked him a couple of times How does my mom use her points if she wants to use them tonight? And he kept just saying he didnt know anything about points until the receipt prints out. Well, it printed out that my mom had enough points for a free movie, and when I asked him how she could have applied that he towards the movie this evening he huffed and started to answer. However, I didnt feel like dealing with his really slur attitude anymore so I just told him never mind. I go to this theater all the time, and I love seeing shows there. I love the atmosphere and most of the staff is awesome. Which makes this one particular encounter with an employee who very obviously didnt want to be working there all the more weird for me. Overall my review for the theater is 5 stars. But the rude ticket taker tonight needs to be talked to by the management.
Neat theater that shows interesting films. Its an old-school theater that was converted to show movies. There are 3 screens - one in the large room on the main floor, and two smaller theaters upstairs that were built onto the balcony of the old theater. If youre going to a movie that will be fairly popular, be sure to leave time to get tickets (or buy them online), because they arent always staffed enough to handle a large rush of people at the box office and concession stand.
A beautifully renovated iconic Cleveland landmark. Old theater charm, with some modern amenities. Not gonna find football field sized screens here or recliner seating... but still nice and well maintained. Plus, you can get alcohol at the concession stand with your snacks! Aside from the movies theyre showing, theres also different midnight movies throughout the year.
What a great place. The main theatre is very nice. Note; there are two levels to theater with no elevator or handicap accessible to the second floor. There is handicap accessible to the main level theater though. Go see a movie there. Im sure you will be quite pleased. Staff was very pleasant and courteous.
This theater is in a really great spot! They usually have movie selections that are different from other theaters. They are the theater to see Studio Ghibli films which are amazing and very creative. The theater is not super huge but big enough and there are great bars and restaurants nearby. Totally worth going to, and soon!
I didnt take pictures but this was my first experience at the theater. Alone, to see Parasite for its final showing. It was a clean and clear experience. The bathroom upstairs had a sewer smell but it was very clean though. I can see myself going back here for a film experience again.
Enjoyed the atmosphere! Got to watch a classic holiday movie, munch on lovely snacks and enjoy a drink of my choice for $10. It was a lovely evening! Definitely recommend it. Seating is flip down, old style auditorium chairs - be prepared.
This old movie theater has been renovated to its original architecture. I feel like I walked into a past lifetime! Several new movies were offered for viewing. The seats dont recline at all and were most uncomfortable. Friendly staff!
Its really cool theater. True it does not have reclining seats but its clean and old school. Maybe a bigger screen would make it And on Mondays its only $5/ticket cant beat that
My girlfriend and I wanted to see a concert movie that was only in theaters for 2 nights. So our choices were between this place and a Valley view. We ended up staying close to home, my suggestion because I like supporting local business. This was the worst idea I could have had. The movie was dead quiet and the theater was about 80 degrees piping hot. I know its winter but we all have winter clothes on. I suggested to the staff that they cool it off as I am sensitive to heat, it continued to belch out hot air non stop for 15 minutes. I have never walked out of a movie and my gf packed up and started leaving within 5 minutes of the movie starting, right behind ya. I suggest you take a walk around in your theaters before the movies start to ensure that the 10 bucks people are spending are justified. Also keep the sound on a volume louder than our TV speakers, its why were here. You ruined date night- this is why big businesss survive, quality control and common sense. I should have gone with her original suggestion, now Im the dummy.
Great screen and comfy seats. Classic movies playing for low prices and its a great budget location for the whole family. Lots of options for food snacks. The entire building is extravagant and enthralling with its design. No complaints here.
My absolute favorite movie theater in the world. Always have good movies playing, new and old classic ones. Love the Wednesday movie nights where you can watch classic movies and drink and have a good time. I recommend coming here. Plus, much cheaper than other mainstream movie theaters.
Its a nice place my only issue is the seating Im almost 6ft tall and my knees took a beating during my movie, overall the staff was very kind and the theater was clean as well not your average funky seated dirty place. Very classy.
Great theater. Check out their 12 hours of terror event in October!
Excellent theater for enjoying films. See the oscar nominated live and animated shorts, superb!
This theatre has noticeably gone down in quality over the last few years. I went for the first time since 2015 (since moving from the city) in the first week of 2020, and I was really disappointed by the lack of care shown. The soda was flat, the employees all had a sullen attitude and, worst of all, they forgot to start the movie for almost 15 minutes until an audience member had to alert staff. I saw two films here over the span of two days and both times, the sound levels were much too low, especially considering the fact that I was watching a Star Wars movie and a WW1 movie. Overall, just a huge bummer to see how Cleveland Cinemas is seemingly just letting this place slowly start to collapse.
If you want to enjoy a film with no children or obnoxious teenagers this is the right place for you. There popcorn is the best!!!!
The place is clean. The staff is courteous and helpful. I highly recommend this theater.
This is a wonderful place to see movies. The staff is always helpful and kind and the big screens are the kind of old Hollywood legend.
Very intimate setting and great prices. Would give 5 stars but they do have a bed bug problem. Bring some kind of seat cover and make sure you check yourself before you go home.
Beautiful and Historical but it needs an upgrade those seats are to small for the average being. Some people are a size 12 and up who do Enjoy the Arts as well please take this information into consideration.
Great theater. Saw star wars it was great..
We went on a Monday. It was clean and we got a good deal on our tickets. We had an enjoyable experience!
What a lovingly restored gem in the heart of Gordon Square. Try their Monday special! Great value and a great place to catch a flick.
Great place to go for smaller crowds and popular movie. Love the fact I didnt have to deal with people talking while watching movie. Ticket prices are affordable as well.
Love that the Capitol is in our neighborhood and that it offers $5 movies on Monday nights! Its affordable for the whole family. Way to go Capitol!!!
Such a fun place to watch a film. It’s not the cheapest and the parking can be a hassle (there’s a lot but it’s small) but something about this place that feels comfortable. All the vibes
Great old Theatre.. They host shows for the CIFF too!
Favorite movie theater. Simply wont go to a movie if it’s not playing there. Location is key. Date night is fun. Love the community presence.
Given 5 stars if it wasnt so outdated for being such a new theater
This is a amazing little movie theater. I went for the first time this week for a screening of China town. It has a old time theater vibe to it. They run big name films and smaller more independent film. They play old films too. The staff were great as well. If you love movies, then you love this place.
An old theatre that was rescued. Good movies. Refined.
Great screens. Good sound. Comfy seats. Mondays are $5!!
Theyve got first-run movies and some movie+discussion shows. They dont have self-serve kiosks or reserved seats or reclining seats like the national chains have. Its an old theater. Their seats are comfortable enough. Their bathrooms are kept clean and have been remodeled within the last couple of years.
I always have a wonderful time at the Capitol Theater. Today was no exception. Saw Late Night with Emma Thompson, I recommend that everyone see this movie.
We love this theater. The restorations are beautiful and the prices beat any chain out there. Also the beer is a plus. I tell all my friends about this spot.
Very nice neighborhood theater. Excellent Monday bargain.
A very fun place to experience movies. The historicalu aspects makes it unique and special. That said, its a smaller screen and the sound is not as nice and modern as the newer theaters. So, I love Capitol Theater, but there are movies that Ill go elsewhere for if the full experience is important to me.
Awesome theater and they serve drinks!
Excellent place and excellent customer service. Recommend it.
Its always a great time going to Capitol Theatre. Run by professionals who love film and go out of their way to provide a great experience with a blend of mainstream, cult, and classic films.
I like this theater. Cozy place
Good movie: Bohemian Rhapsody. Theatre mediocre. Rehab of old theatre. Some charm but not enough to offset years of decline. Would consider attending again under right conditions.
I discovered this classic, renovated cinema while viewing an old 3D western hosted by a 3D Photography Convention. It was the perfect venue for a classic film! The staff was nice, the bonus alcoholic beverages designed to compliment the film was fun.The cinema is just off the main drag and had lots of restaurants to try out before the movie.I would go back to this cinema if I find myself back in Cleveland!
Super cool place, chairs are a little uncomfortable but super cool theater!
They renovated this a few years ago and Ive been wanting to go. I finally made it there after dinner at Ricons (around the corner ) you dont want to miss that either.. It did not disappoint. It was very clean, great atmosphere . Very friendly staff.
-----saw the Elton John bio pic: EXCELLENT!!!---finally got a chance to see a film in the main theater of this venue:FANTASTIC restoration of this historical theater!!#
Great theater and reasonable prices. Discounts on Monday. The rewards program is worth it if youre a frequent movie goer.
My first experience was a very good one! Clean I didnt realize there were multiple theaters inside.
Best theatre on the West Side. Booze and great movie specials.
Old fashioned theater, but clean, good movie sound and atmosphere.
Fabulous theater renovated several years ago and converted one huge theater into 3 or 4 smaller ones. Parking can be a little tricky around Gordon Sq area in the evenings. Plan accordingly. Enjoy the area before or after the movie
Very classic and cool place. Highly recommended.
Best locally owned theater around.
Beautifully kept theater. Id see any movie there.
Great little theatre. My favorite place to see a movie. Prices are great and you can get a drink for the movie!
You cant hate on your local, independent theater. The Capitol location is in a great spot, relative to other nightlife. The theater itself is clean, comfortable, and well-run. All the usual concessions plus a nice beer, wine, and cocktail selection. Im a big fan of the special showings they arrange with local organizations and re-running classics/cult classics along with the usual recent releases. It feels good to enjoy a flick in a theater with so much history and ran by people that care about films as an artform and expression of our culture.
There isnt a huge variety of movies, but it is a nice and clean piece of history.
A simple movie theatre with reasonable prices
Great place for a movie or a show
Very nice theater.
A great venue to enjoy an arts film (along with a cocktail). Three theaters fully restored and updated. Right in the heart of Gordon Square with walkable access to plenty of bars and restaurants.
Well run movie theater.
Gorgeous historical theater. Went to a special viewing of On the Basis of Sex. Loved it!
Been there a few times since reopening. The place is beautiful, clean, friendly. The seating is great. The sound is beautiful in there and best of all it feels like regardless of how busy it maybe you feel like its your own place. Great place
Great local theatre. Some first run movies available. Always clean. Limited parking in back as there are several businesses on that block.
Had the old theater feel to it.
Love this place. They usually have all the big movies, and also some that youve probably never heard of. They also do cool screenings like Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3D. Not a ton of people go here so theres usually good seats in all of the theaters.
It is an old building, lots of charm. Not handicap friendly, 2 theaters are up stairs. Makes fresh popcorn and has beer, wine and some drinks. A favorite spot!
Very quaint, old fashioned theatre. Not as comfy as modern theatres, but the vintage atmosphere is amazing
The neighborhood has become a better place since the restoration and re-opening of the Capitol! This is a charming place to see a film with the energy of decades of audiences around you. The individual movie theaters within the building vary in shape and size, as the interior has been subdivided, so each room can be a different experience. A nice selection of beverages and food at the bar is available, too. The neighborhood offers a variety of great restaurants, also, so a meal or dessert before or after the movie is easily found. I highly recommend the Capitol!
Good place to see movies
This theatre has great collection of films.
This movie theater is a beautiful classic and Im glad we have it in town! They play some major studio films and also cult classics. Its really a lot of fun to go here and I make it my preferred theater, even though I only go a few times a year.
The Capitol doesnt have fancy seats or reservations. What it does have is charm, fantastic snacks, adult beverages and friendly staff. Beautifully restored local theater
Classical old time movie theater feel, friendly staff.
Its old and cool
Beautiful venue. Great theater youve got to visit.
Great refurbished theatre in the heart of Gordon Square. Bargain days on Monday. The main screening room is spacious and rarely ever crowded. The smaller screening rooms view the screen on odd angles but are nice as well. The area is safe with things to do before or after a show. They host special events, hard to find releases, and retro-screenings of films you may never have the opportunity to see on the large screen.
Beautiful venue to witness CIF 42 Short Winners
THIS THEATER IS A CLASSIC....... THIS IS DEFINTELY THE PLACE TO GO TO HAVE A GREAT THEATER EXPIERENCE. ... DONT CHANGE A THING
I love this theatre, very nice atmosphere !
Great experience. Comfortable seating for an old theatre. Attended film festival screening of Assassins Code. Outstanding film!!
Great little theater. Friendly staff. Awesome deals. A hidden gem
Historic movie house in the heart of Gordon Square
Its a nice theatre with nice staff.
Nice neighborhood theatre in a thriving revitalized neighborhood. Comfortable seats. And an employee named Gordon Hathaway was very friendly and courteous. Loved the movie KONG.
12/23/16:I approached the ticket booth with my wife; we intended on seeing the Manchester movie with our son.I asked for three tickets for the 7:15 show; the gentlemen behind the glass was incredibly disrespectful! He said, in a VERY loud voice, WE DO NOT ACCEPT $100.00 bills...they are the EASIEST to pass asCOUNTERFEIT.Your employee insinuated that I was trying to enter your theater with a fake $100.00 bill.NOTE: Nothing on your website speaks to this issue; nothing at the ticket booth speaks to this issue.I showed the gentlemen my movie card and he was nothing but extremely rude.Your employee was amazingly disrespectful; he was absolutely ignorant of a few simple facts -its quite easy to check US currency with the color wand; its quite easy to check the currency in the light.I told your employee that I will NEVER, EVER enter your theater again; further, I willencourage all of my friends to find a different place to spend their $$ on movies.Rest assured, your employee ruined my night; a night out with my adult son and my wife.Beyond that, his disrespect for me was totally without cause.Im not sure what kind of business you are trying to run there; if you are trying to remain open in theface of increasing competition, your might want to hire employees that know how to treat thehonest people entering your establishment.Very truly yours,Peter A. Sackett
Clean and orderly theater. Audio volume is at acceptable level. Concession prices are,as usual per modern theaters, too high. Historic building, well-restored and maintained.
Decent place. Absolutely prefer this to any major chains as the food and beverage here is reasonable and you can afford without taking a second mortgage.
Nice low key movies and a few good drinks
We attended 40th anniversary showing of the warriors great time, staff was busy yet courteous. Raffle giveaway
A historic building thats still in good shape
I really love this theater.
Great location. Great experience.
Very clean, old-fashioned and quaint. A nice experience with friends, funny movie.
