A treasure in our midst. I live in Wisconsin but have attended several special masses here with my Aunt. The restoration work is marvelous and the Pieta replica, other statuary, architectural points and stained glass windows are inspiring. If you havent made it to Rome, heres a little taste of it in Chicago.
Man this church is so beautiful. The super friendly secretary let us in to the church and we had it all to ourselves. It was like the Blessed Mother was giving is a private tour. This church is totally worth you coming out and visiting.I even posted a video review on YouTube - just lol for the channel: “Uniquely Mary”
This is what a church should look like.. Beautiful.. Congregation of multiple backgrounds together.. In harmony for the same common goal..do yourself a favor..whether you have faith.. Have questions..lost faith.. Come to our lady of sorrows.. You will feel at home..like one of the family
Msgr Fulton Sheen once narrated mass here. Unfortunately the neighborhood hasnt been safe since the 50s.
Went for a funeral. However, it was a VERY beautiful church!!!!
I visited the Basilica often in my youth with a catholic priest family friend,Fr. T. McHigh. I was told by my father that my grandfather, Christoph Freudinger was the head carpenter for the building of the Basilica. I’m very proud of the results of what he accomplished.Raymond J Freudinger (‘38)
A great place to worship if need they do help feed the needy a institution we needed thank parish doing outstanding job in the community
I was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows until I moved to the Southside I loved going there two of my grandchildren made their first communion there I truly miss it the Friars are wonderful the people are warm and welcoming
Breathtaking Renaissance architecture and mind blowing acoustics. The pastor is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the basilica and its artworks.
Awesome place to visit... lots of history
Even though the occasion was solemn, the ornate architecture was breathtaking.
This very old church has several shrines areound the inside of the main building. Every third Saturday at 11 am theres a blessing with a relic of St Peregrine. People travel from very far to receive this blessing.
Amazing! Beautiful! Dr. Frank gave us a personal tour. He was knowledgeable and good natured. Dont need to fly to Europe to see a European style cathedral. Youll learn some interesting Chicago history as well.
Beautiful Church. A real gem in the city
Went to OLSB 4 a funeral. The basilica is beautiful.
I went to visit it and it was closed, I didnt get to see it. It only opens from 11:30 to 1 pm, I dont know why so short time and it is also located in a far away neighborhood that seems to be hardly populated, I wonder why it was placed there. If you plan to visit please make sure about the schedule in advance.
I love the vibe of Our Lady Of Sorrow Father Chris is traditional the members are great.
Beautiful church. Very spacious. Great art and architecture.

Be careful! This basilica is beautiful, but its not in the best area. I walked there from the L nearby during the day and did not feel safe on my walk there and back (details below). That said, the basilica itself is wonderful. A nice man let me in after hours (since it closes so early). He even gave me a behind the scenes tour to view private relics not open to the public. The Pieta is gorgeous. On my walk to the basilica, a family was in front of their home. A man was sitting on the porch. His wife and kids were playing with toys on the sidewalk. As I walked by, the wife started complimenting me loud enough for the husband to hear, asked me if I had a phone number and what I was doing later. She grabbed my hand and tried to keep the conversation going, but I politely went on my way. The husband was clearly not happy. This put me on edge, and noticed on my walk this was not a nice area at all. On my way back, I walked on the other side of the street from that house. The wife, kids, and toys were all inside. The husband was still outside with another man watching me. They started to walk down the street as I walked, mirroring me on the other side. When I got close to the L they stopped. I am so glad I had the presence of mind to walk on the other side of the street, because if I walked in front of them Im pretty sure I would have got my ass kicked.
The basilica is absolutely beautiful!!!A diverse church with nice parishioners, wonderful choir & and fellowship & food after Mass. Tours can be arranged as well after Mass. Please come & visit youre always welcome!! Service starts at 10 am!!
People looking at (me)all funny like I shouldnt be there, rude, inconsiderate and theyre not children of God.. Never ever will return...EVER!!!!
What a beautiful basilica, go visit it! The end.Alright for more details, I would recommend checking the pictures, as they only provide a glimpse of the magnificent architecture and the unspoken holiness of this establishment. My one advice is to consider Uber or taxis to get here as this basilica is located in a fairly developing neighborhood, which can seem intimidating, especially during certain times of the day.
A Beautiful house of Worship
