I go there often. Mainly to look around. You can find a lot of stuff if youre patient and make time. I found a unique Hoya. I normally go for the plants. My husband likes collecting basketball cards. Some things are pricey. Bring cash! You gotta pay to enter. They only accept cash.
This was a decent place. I was torn between a 3 or 4 stars but gave it a 3 as the restrooms were smelly and had some interesting characters hanging around it. Nice mix of foods here. If you want to try something different stop by here. The beers at the brew pub tasted great and went down well. If I was a tourist Id stop by here!
This is an amazing street market with a little something for everyone! Handmade/homemade foods like tamales, tacos, quesadillas, and more!!!! Be sure to stop by Rubi’s booth for the best eats!!! You won’t be disappointed!!!
Beautiful place to shop many vendors to. Choose from. Just saying
Dont know why you werent Open today 2/02/2020 on such a beautiful day?Love this place! I am now 58 yrs old and been to the one in Jew town as the area before this place has been called. Remember stories from my Mother & Grandfather telling about taking my mother there as a young child.Hope you never leave us permanently Maxwell St. Market, we Love You!
I came here, i think the weather had alot to do with the fact there was not alot of tiny shops available, however we did find a few good items such as a cute tiny coat for our pet Mace, and cute shoes so he can go out for a walk in style, I also found water proof gloves for my daughters, mind you I went to barns and fleet and spend 60.00$ on 2 pairs.. fully regret that, in this out door flea market you will find, brand name coats, hats, gloves, toys new and used, sweaters, pants, baseball hats, sports wear (original and knock off), they also sell makeup, soap, detergent, deodorant, toiletries basically, you will also find plants, they have several food stands the food is very good, they flea market and I said is out doors they close the street in order to host the event and its only on sunday. I recommend going to this flea markets during the summer at this time it is late November and in my opinion it is worth going but not as many shops. they close at 2 pm.
This is one of my favorite markets. If youre looking for vintage or antique items, Id go somewhere else. But if youre in more of a flea market/yard sale vibe, this is the place for you. And there is plenty of fresh food. Rubis Tacos are made fresh, including the tortillas on site.
Go for the Mexican food vendors. Handmade tortillas and traditional prepared meats & sauces. Fantastic. Not a farmers market although you will find a few produce selections lots of dried peppers things of that sort. Otherwise kind of a flea market feel.
They were still setting up when I arrived. Did purchase a bedspread set ($20). The food smelled great! Next time will go after 10 a.m. and enjoy a couple of .
I Love it .. So many Vendors, All kind of different things, youre hungry they sell fresh tacos, tamales, Funnel cake w/ scoop ice cream, shaved ice different flavors to choose from, peanuts, raisins, dehydrated fruit and everything is good, environment is great and they have General merchandise New & Used ..
Good deals on tools, home essentials and odd ball things you wont find anywhere else. I wouldnt eat here a lot of people do but thats just me..
An interesting place to be. Many things to see and explore and generally good prices. A bit dirty in some places, though, and a few of the items that were being sold were visibly damaged. Otherwise a fun adventure.
You will be surprised with the variety of goods on sale and GREAT food stands. Mostly Mexican food
Love Maxwell Street Market. Always so lively and fun. And the TACOS!! Always spot some good finds there. And if not, its just a fun stroll. :)
So much fun! I always find something fun and unique. Food is delicious. I like to buy beauty products too! I should have brought my dog to stroll around as well
Chicagos best weekly outdoor market. Thins out in the winter. Eat here. There are many vendors, sweets and savory.
Very good time especially in the hot summer days
Good amount of vendors selling at good prices. Also Rubis tacos feeding the mass. Excellent tacos.
Being going there for as far as I can remember early 70s...Great deals ..
Good experiences...a lot interesting things to see and to do... good attention for costumers.
My first time here, I did not know what to expect, parked about a block away and walked over. The market is a few blocks long and they offer plenty of new things and some used. They also have a few restaurants and a couple of the restaurants were crowded, I talked to a couple of people and they said they came here only for the food so I have to stop by for the food next time.On this day they had a band playing on one end and a DJ on another. It was a pleasant visit.
Ample amount of booths to look at but the main attraction is definitely the Hispanic food. Bring you cash and your appetite! Cant wait to come back.
Its closed but the site says open. Smh
Got a few good buys. I like it better in summer weather.
Pretty good time. Go for the food! Mexican food.
Maxwell Street Market is a gem. Perfect way to spend a Sunday morning with friends and/or family. Great environment and the food options are AMAZING!
The freshest meat and tortillas I’ve ever had. Waiting in line in the hot sun for 45minutes was totally worth it! YUM! seriously soooo fresh
A good place to walk around...a lot of good food, used things and new things.
Not much to do but we also went there on a cold day will be back in the summer
This place is definitely worth the long wait on Sunday afternoons. We should have gone right when they opened but didnt go till about 1pm and waited an hour and half to order. The downside was when we finally got to the front, they only had carne asada left and I really wanted an al pastor taco. The tacos are huge and sold individually. We took ours to go because it was extremely hot outside. The sauces that they give with the tacos were very spicy and amazing.
Its has gotten smaller, over the years, but always great to go to. I dont care for the cigarette smoke but at least were still outside.
Best place if you want to try out different tacos. They make the tortillas right there.
Its a great market to buy your veggies, power tools ECT....
Awesome spot. Good street taco
First time going their since they moved years ago, a bit far but was worth it nice and lots to see and many bargains hope to go again check it out music was awesome, and food aw smell so good just the line was long but mmmm
Has been shut down recently. Dont know the reason yet.
The best. Tacos. Ever. Next time trying the ones with a mile long line.
If your in Chicago you need to check out Maxwells market. This is where youll find some of the best hidden little restaurants in Chicago as well as great deals on some of the most random things you can think of.. socks, shirts, tools, etc.
Heart of Chitown, eclectic items, tools, clothes and the Latino effect; great food, music and views of city built by the African Jean Baptiste DuSable!!!
Rubis Tacos is a must. Go with lots of time and patience because you will definitely have to stand in line. However they are so worth it.
Legendary street market, best to go when the weather is nice, more vendors will be there
Im a Vendor at this Market & its been all Good to me
This is a pale imitation of what it was even 15 years ago. The number of vendors has steadily gone down. But what it still is, is a outdoor market where you can get fabulous street food. As Chicago doesnt have a good food Truck scene, this is the closest. Try the Oaxacan Tamales. There are some newer places that are offering Brazilian etc, but I have not tried those as they are not Vegetarian friendly. Also the best place to get socks, Gillette razors and pen and pencils etc.
A lot of Mexican street food vendors but we don’t have a strong stomach and couldn’t really try them. If you are interested/curious you can go. But to be honest, maybe some other flea market would be more interesting
Awesome!! A lot of great items for sale and a real authentic mix of Chicago natives.
This market I like it.I come here ones or twice a month. The food is great!!. Good things and good prices!!
This is a fantastic flea market you never know what youre going to find and the food there is just off the chain I definitely recommend this to anybody who just wants to get out with their family maybe on a weekend and try some delicious food they got all types of food just so many things there to see Ive been going here to this flea market for a very long time now. Definitely check them out
Love this Place when me and my wife are in Chicago
Nice atmosphere, lots of vendors selling miscellaneous items. The goods are a bit generic — packaged socks, etc
Im from Okla & I loved this flea market . Tend to visit whenever Im in town .
Lots of cheap stuff, new and used. Good cheap mainly Mexican food
Food, hand made gifts, and little shows are just some things you can experience at the market
Chicagos historic flea market. Buy, sell, new and/or used. Prices are negotiable.
A ghost of what it use to be. I remember coming to the Maxwell street market when it was actually located on Maxwell street. Than it was relocated to Canal and now finally to Des Plaines. Most of the vendors that I knew have left and are now selling at the flea market at Rosemont.
Is nowhere near what it used to be back in the 80s. I guess with all the online sites offering similar products, not many vendors are willing to come out anymore. There mustve been 10 to 12 vendors the time I went. Parking is also expensive.
Rubio tacos best but the lines can get long!
Fun! A sizable street market with a little bit of everything including excellent food vendors. It takes a couple hours plus just to browse the whole thing. So, go early, take cash, and wear comfy shoes.
Come for the food! Definitely need to try out Rubis Tacos! Worth the wait if its long.
Great food but place doesnt have much to do!
Havent been here since 2000. Was dissapointed not too many vendors.
Great place for discount stuff as well as quick food and elotes!
I feel went I was at the 90old good days
Great things for lovely prices [open only on Sundays]
I used to love this flea market, when I was a child I remember this to be huge with lots of vendors and lots of things. The last time I was there it was so depressing to see that all that its gone. Vendors look sad. There is not a whole lot of them and neither clientele. The city of Chicago have taken away all the convenient parking and we had to pay $7 for 1 1/2 hr for parking. They just dont care about all the people they are screwing with this because it is getting very expensive to go visit a place that doesnt even have a whole wide variety of products. The city should at least attempt to either discounted parking rates or no charge, but I doubt either one is happening. So sad to see what this market has turned into we will keep going to buy from our favorite hard working vendors.
It is ok, but i liked the old times when there use to be more sellers.
Delicious tamales, tacos, horchata, elote, and more. Loved this market.
Marias quesadillas are amazing and flea market someone elses junk may be your treasure plus new items and more of a latino flair
Since 1997 we were coming here for the tacos and quesadillas,, taste almost the same.
Great food. Unique items from Mexico.
Seems theres no bargaining anymore. Like buying a car at Carmax, the price is the price, not fun anymore. Parking a pain.
Excuse me, does your company have Chinese employees?
Such an amazing thing to experience!
I love walking around seeing the different stands.
Quiet,safe...try food etc....
Still the best polishes in town
Been eating their great beef polish sandwich for many years. Last time, with fries & a coke cost me almost $8. Ouch! Wasnt so back in the days.
We love their handmade quesadillas. People line up and wait for their food even in the rain
Best during temperate weather. Watch out for hot or rainy days, less vendors. Arrive early. Eat lunch!
Nice because outside i thought there would be a better assortment of items
Lovely market! And the food is amazing!!
Ok, Im gonna start pointing out the fact that Im Mexican; food its my favorite part of that. The good around here is just delicious, the closest to authentic Mexican cuisine. Unfortunately, Im taking out couple of stars due some abuse in prices, and no taste or just fake food; there is always bad apples in the basket, and because of that in chopping out the stars. The new layout is better and convenient for security reasons, if we keep and learn the experience in other cities about terrorist attacks and emergency responds. The cleaning its even more efficient. Hope we can see this in summer time.I hate the counterfeit products, Im against that and I think we are becoming just like New York streets you know what Im saying..? Anyway, back to the point;Lets keep it real, in terms of quality food; who ever the person approves those permits, be more hard on them, not just anyone saying that they are cookers.. ask for licenses and proof of experience; an undercook chicken can kill you.I get it, I come from the largest street food market in this part of the hemisphere, which is Mexico City; no quality control, no clean water or cleanest conditions along the process, but they do have common sense and taste.Maxwell street in food terms is compared with taste of Chicago, so lets keep it that way. Id like to see in the future Maxwell Street going international in terms of food, more inclusive. My two cents.
No a lot of vendors, food was great, and love the churros
More food than sellers, not much stuff.
It lost its drive, Too much management too much regulations too expensive for the vendors, Now its a food fast more food vendors then vendor selling stuff Very sad about the changes been going to the Maxwell street for 20 years.
Come for Rubis, stay for the cool market.
