Came here for something to do on a Thursday night of a trip to Chicago. Atmosphere was awesome, staff was so friendly. The line up was pretty funny and entertaining. Acts weren’t on too long so it kept my attention longer. Only one act that wasn’t funny, but again not on long enough to make you want to leave. Show started at 8pm and there was an open mic after. Food was great... spinach and cheese mozzarella sticks were incredible!!
My boyfriend and I got tickets for a Sunday night comedy show and it did not disappoint!! the openers had us laughing within seconds and the headliner was fantastic! the drink menu has something for everyone and the food options were good as well!! it is first come first serve with seating locations so make sure to get there early to get a good seat!!
I gave this place 2 stars because it falsely advises that on Mondays it offers open mic, when its obvious that you either have to work there, know the person running the show that night, or possibly bribe the host for a chance to get called up on stage. I went this Monday December the 9th and he pulled two names, comics who Ive seen just about every Monday Ive been there, out of what was supposed to be a random drawing. By 2 names I mean 2 names out of one egg holding names of guests who signed up for a chance to be called up to perform. Why not call it what it is and say After we called up the comics with reserved spots, well pull one or 2 names at random for real. If we have time.Every other comic called up that night were also comics Ive seen any other time I went on open mic night. Ive been there a couple of times because I thought it would be fun to get on stage and tell a few jokes. The joke was that I actually thought open mic meant I had a chance of being picked to perform. It wouldnt be as bad if they at least made sure the comics didnt have the same material they used for the entire month. Aside from that, they usually have pretty good comics and the pizzas not bad. Also, most nights the service is pretty good. It would be nice if they didnt use false advertising, but you get what you pay for I guess. Mondays are only 10 bucks a head usually, just dont expect a chance to get on stage unless you know the guy running the show.
I havent been to many stand-ups but me and my girlfriend got many good laughs in their Thursday funny AF show. The place is nice and we could get a good table without issues. The place wasnt crowded, I dont know if due to covid but the show was great for me. Great place for a date.
Jason Collins was awesome (headliner). Atmosphere decent. My only gripe is they shouldn’t have the beer flights on the menu if they are not going to offer them in the comedy club. It’s a bar environment, and I wanted to try some of their brews. Disappointed. On the big screen while waiting for the acts, they have a slide show about the different shows and offering and a single slide about Chicago trivia. Add some variety in, if you need help I’ll oblige!
Caught a show last week and had a great time. Needless to say I wish the comedy sets would have been longer, bc we were drinking, eating, and having a great time. My wife and I got seated next to two people we didn’t know and it was actually super fun meeting new people in a relaxed setting. Note to Calvin Evans, that last joke about the Karate Kid needs some work. Everyone walking out said you were great except for that joke.
We did the rotten tomatos show. Incredibly fun comedians were great, staff was helpful, and food was delicious.
This is a nice comedy club on the top floor of Ginos. The space is a little more comfortably laid out compared to many clubs who jam people in. Wait staff was friendly and the menu was so Ginos pizza obviously, so great if you like that. The sign is not easy to see from the street and there is an elevator as well as stairs to the club. Get there 20-30 min before show time or you may not get your food until the main act.
Great comedy . Great good ! The owner is cool andSo is the stuff . I got a build my own pizza for $22 plus each veggie topping was almost $4 kinda disappointed it was a lot of just veggie toppings
Great intimate show at reasonable price. Funny! Funny! Funny! Neat showroom concept and awesome food/pizza. Loved it. Will go back next time I’m in Nashville. Located in heart of town so easy walk from hotel.
I enjoyed my trip to The Comedy Bar. It was an evening out with my daughter and sons girlfriend. A ladies night out, if you will. We enjoyed the delicious food from Ginos East, a few drinks and especially the comedians who performed that evening. That girl Sara is going to make it big someday!!!!
Funny the drinks were good and the jokes were a real hit especially if your not a snowflake because some could be offensive but I certainly would come again enjoyed it a lot
The comedy show I went to was great. There wasnt anyone performing that I knew, but pretty much every got a laugh or two out of me.
This is my favorite place to take my family when they come to visit! Truly the complete package for a Chicago experience. Great beer, great pizza, and amazing local comedians.
Didnt laugh not once. We chuckled twice. The drinks were water. Order a Crown and it was clear. Paid 15.00 dollars for parking. My wings were not done. And the comedian bombed so badly. Dont go to the last show it stinks.
It was a nice experience (tomato show). Some funny and not funny comedians. My brownie was not warm when it was brought out. Seemed like it was sitting on the counter for a while. Otherwise, great staff. Friendly and helpful. I would stop by for another show next time Im around here.
Great stand up with a lot of local comedians. Will definitely be visiting again.
We came here last Friday night. The drinks are good and the entertainment was hilarious. If you are in the area make it out. Its decently priced and you will have a good time.
The club itself is a very nice room. There is a showroom on the main floor theres the showroom upstairs. The price to get in is very reasonable as almost clubs in Chicago. A large very well-stocked bar. Craft cocktails available. I know they serve food but I didnt have any since I went after dinner. The bartender was very nice. However on the night I went which was a Saturday, the pickings for comedians were pretty slim. It felt more like an open mic night than polished comedians. So I found that rather disappointing.I would highly recommend, as in most areas downtown, you take public or shared Ride transportation. There is little street parking.
Oh man this visit was priceless. The early evening performance was great, great warm up better 3rd act and trully awesome final act - thanks Mike.
We dropped in for a show during a regular week day and the place was packed. The hostess checked us in quick (very pleasant) and we were quickly escorted to our table which we shared with two more quests. The beer selection here is not that great, and whatever they are brewing needs more work. Both of us had a hell of a time finding few beers we like and we are all around craft beer drinkers. The waitress was no help at all in the beer selection process and at one point in time I ended up with a wrong beer.We ordered calamari to snack on during the show. We figured it was safe to order calamari and we were wrong. It showed up very fast, lukewarm, and it was serve with cold marinara sauce (I think it was marinara) All we got was a plate of calamari, no napkins, no small plates and no utensils. The comics we saw that night were funny and overall got us laughing. We will be back for the comedy but we will eat and drink somewherSo to sum it up;- funny group of comics.- clueless waitress.- terrible food.- mediocre beer selection.
Fun, low cost spot in River North to catch some laughs. If you are looking for an amateur hour its a fun spot. Look into their special and off nights like a Monday to get in.
SO FUN! We went this past weekend, and loved the show! 3 comedians, and all were very funny. We were seated in a comfy booth, could easily see, and food/drink service was good too! We would definitely come back for another show! Recommended!! :)
Disappointed only 2 comedians and a host announcer...best seating Ive ever had at a comedy club! Great service, comfy chairs and not too crowded like New York clubs!
Great service! Not a bad seat in the house.
Monday night open mic is a cool concept, would be much cooler if comics names were drawn and not bar staff.Owww ya, knowww thats just the luck of the draw.
The atmosphere was very nice and the acts were funny. We definitely enjoyed the show! However, we were the third group to be seated (right after VIP) and ordered our drinks right away. We waited around 20 minutes for our drinks, which were a beer and a gin and tonic, and noticed other people getting their drinks brought to them. One member of our party ran up finally to see if we could get our drinks and one of the bartenders shrugged him off. We FINALLY got our first round of two drinks five minutes before the show started. The waitress came quickly to get our drinks and we didn’t even have a moment to place an order for more. By that time the WHOLE SHOW was about over anyway. So, kind of ridiculous. I emailed about the situation and received no response.
Club is very nice and clean. Comedians were just okay, would not recommend seeing any that we saw. Waitress was really late getting receipts but I do not think it was her fault. I would go back, I think it was an off night for everyone. Will change review if second experience is better..
The pizza was really good. The crust was buttery, yeasty crunchy.
Rion Evans had us hurting from laughing so hard! A great night
Very cool building and atmosphere. The comics here are great. However the wait staff in the restaurant is great but the staff in the comedy club is lacking. Also drink prices are high and they are not very strong.
The good thing Ill say is that it was free admission. Our group came in halfway through a comedy competition between two (amateur) teams of man/woman on each. They had various topics they had to tell jokes about for time periods and audience applause determined winner. One guy on one team was funny, other 3 people were not. Had a few laughs over 20 minutes. Next up until close was an hour or 1.5 of amateurs doing 2-3 minute bits, with about 3-4 regular comics at that club (professional? Semi?) In between. About 2 of maybe 10 amateurs were genuinely funny, some just got crickets. One guy we couldnt even understand. Professionals were a bit better. Almost all the bits from everyone that night were very very crude, about sex, and tons of cursing One drunk guy at the bar behind the audience starting talking to someone real loudly the last half hour which was really distracting, and none of the employees did anything about it. Finally, I had 2 mixed drinks (gin and tonic) that were $12 each and Ive never tasted such terrible gin my whole life. Might have been floor cleaner and not gin! Overall, if you are visiting Chicago and only have limited opportunities to do things while you are there, pay the money to go see a professional comic.
Hit or miss on the comedians, but nice venue and good waitstaff!
Went to their Saturday brunch and it was pretty decent. Food was great, drinks were a little light and kinda slow, comedy was above average! I would recommend paying a visit but be sure to ge there early! The line gets long.
Always a great time. Check it out.
Great show. Great food. Great service.
First time here so wasnt sure what to expect. Loved the smaller venue and the line up was solid. Staff was friendly and service was fast considering how packed it was. Well definitely be coming back for another show
It could have been our mood due to being in Chicago only one full day and it rained and snowed all day. We decided to go to the Comedy Bar on Saturday to the 730 pm show. It is a very attractive bar and very clean as well. We had eaten at the restaraunt earlier and the food was fabulous. That evening, I did not think that any of the 3 comedians were very funny. I really felt sorry for them. Our poor waitress had a hard time as well. We ordered together and only had 1 drink delivered to us. We waited a very long time for the second drink. Maybe it was just an off night because of weather?
One if out favorite places in the city for stand ups. Usually the ticket price is really reasonable. 2 drinks could easily get you spend $40 but I guess that’s pretty normal for downtown venues.Overall worth going if you check the headliners up online first.
Great place. Great staff.
Unfortunately, the worst customer service Ive ever experienced in a comedy club. I do not proclaim to be an expert, but my wife and I do attend stand up comedy frequently whether it be in Vegas, Chicago, New York, or a few clubs in our local area. When purchasing tickets you have the opportunity to purchase a general admission ticket or a VIP ticket that states Attendance to the show including priority reserved seating in the first two rows of tables, closest to the stage. We decided to pay the extra $10 each to sit closer. The staff made a mocking comment in good humor when we arrived that we are VIPs, which I can appreciate as it is a comedy club and you are looking to establish a rapport and start a good experience for the guest. Unfortunately, that is where the humor stopped. We were brought into the club and sat in the fourth row at a table, one of the back areas just shy of the bar. There were 3 open tables right in front of the stage in which my wife asked me to inquire why we werent seated there. When I got up and asked the staff, I received the reply we had a lot of VIPs book tonight. When I pointed out the three tables that were open I was told those are reserved. I do not expect to be treated like royalty, I am a normal guy in the middle class, but it is apparent that there is priority seating if there is further incentive either monetarily or by knowing someone in this club, as these tables were filled just before the show with people of a much higher clientele. As I stated, they probably did pay more for their seating arrangement, but it is disappointing when you spend extra money to be seated closer and then get pushed to the back. As for the comedy, I felt the comedians did great on the night of 6.8.19 but the crowd was terribly uptight and unresponsive which made the show feel awkward. Again, great job by the comedians, everything else unfortunately resulted in a lackluster experience. We will be looking elsewhere for our future stand up comedy.
Super fun evening!!
I came here on the weekend after randomly passing by one night. I was actually thinking of going to see a comedian (Ali Wong) at the Chicago Theatre, but ultimately decided to come here instead. I am SO glad I did because the comedians were so funny! We even went to the free stand up on the first floor afterwards & it made the night even better.Me and my fiancé both ordered salads, and they were so good! I know most people would come here because of the deep dish pizza from Ginos East but I am so glad I got their caprese pasta salad. It was so good :)If I lived in Chicago, I would definitely come back here often. If youre a tourist, Id highly recommend coming here for a fun night out!
Good host and headliner. opening act wasnt the greatest. Overall show was a little shorter than expected given ticket price. Decent drink selection and prices are what youd expect.
Great place to see amateur comics, most are kinda bad. But still have a blast with throwing tomatoes. Definitely recommend visiting, prices are fair. Food was excellent. Will return again.
Great space for stand-up. I was at the 9:30pm show last Saturday night (1/26) and loved Michael Harrisons set! He does a great job of cross-cultural referencing between his Canadian culture and the U.S. He performs all over the country (but primarily in NYC), so if you ever get a chance to see him, do it! Side note: the guest comic for that night was a hilarious woman named Lauren Vino. She is original, creative, and would highly recommend her to any bookers!
Great people! Funny shows! Good food and drinks (also non alcoholic beverages). Hecklers get controlled firmly but respectfully.
Great bar. Funny people
Great comedians! Awesome pizza, the truffle is oir favorite. Love this place!
I dont mean any harm. But Saturday was my second time at your comedy bar. The service was good and the customer service was good. Gino East pizza was disappointing and the sevice was sub par. If I return hire better comics and inform your wait staff that every customer is to be treated equally, and start with a smile it goes a long way.
Great atmosphere. Ginos east food is excellent. Staff is friendly. The show itself was not that funny. Need to book better comedians.
Comedians were great but be careful opening a tab. They’ll keep your card and if you’re lucky like me, the server will give your card to someone else. Then when my husband touched her elbow to get her attention because it was loud and someone else had my card, she accused him of grabbing her. Spend your money at the many other great clubs instead of this place. Oh and their “security guy” was a 60 year old rude joke.
Last visit had a drunk guy in the audience who thought he was funnier than the comedian. He wasnt. Staff was brilliant at removing him without causing a scene or a huge distraction. MC was a very funny girl a couple weeks ago but the two openers were kind of a disappointment. Have been here a few times and will continue to visit.
They have a lot of comedy shows throughout the week. Its a good deal and the service has always been good. You can eat dinner and laugh your way through it. :)
It didnt dawn on me that the place use to be Micheal Jordans restaurant from back in the day. The Comedy Bar is a great time! The lineup of comedians, (two of them) had pretty funny acts. The guy who came out to warm up the crowd was also on his game. Now we did have a table by us with some hecklers but the comedians were quick to shoot them down and security was quick to stop all that.
Comedians were good where good service sucked was drinks came out 13 minutes after food, food was expensive and nothing special
They said no photography.. but then again they said there would be comedy so I think the only think laughable is their credibility. Jokes bombed one after another and the pandering to the one drunk woman in the crowd laughing started early and never really left. The highlight if there is one was the hostess emcee. But the bar was set pretty low. The $20 cover should just be referred to as charitable donation. Food subpar. Bar and service nothing special.
I have to been to many comedy clubs and this ranks right there with the worst. Like others have said alcohol is a slim pickings, food was wrong not once, not twice, but three times. We got our food at the end of the show. Comedians were ok but maybe it was because I was busy for half the show trying to wave down the wait staff to correct the food. Not worth it to me
Amazing night. Fun show! Great food! So funny
Good comedians, specially the last one Zach Martina. Food was ok, good ambience
Show was not bad, food was ok. Overall it has potential but is a little over priced on food and drinks for the quality.
Cool place to hang out. Good comics, decent list of beer, appetizer and dinner items on menu!
I went to the Comedy bar with some friends and we were VIP. The waitress was taking our order, a question was asked about how was one of the food items was prepared the waitress said that she did not know and she was going to find out when she walked away she began waiting on other tables and she did not finish taking our order. The manager came over and took our order and he paid for our appetizer and drinks. We ordered a pizza it was brought to us when the show was almost over so we were being rushed to leave because there was another show. But the waitress would not come to our table so we had to ask another waiter to bring a to go box. By the way she brought the bill. The comedians was funny; The waitress made the experience less than desirable I would not recommend this business because of the waitress behavior it really dampened the mood. I gave her tip to the waiter that helped us. The waitress never told us her name. I dont think that I will ever go back, There are other comedy clubs in Chicago.
Awesome variety of comics, plus you can order pizza from Ginos East straight to your table! Beer on tap was the Ginos brewery, pretty standard but tasty brews. Went for the Funny AF showcase which is every Thursday night and has some solid hosts.
Great place on the 3rd floor if your looking for comedy
The place is really great, waiters are super friendly, and pizza is good. Nice selection of draft beers as wellWe came for an open-mic night, most people did great, loads of funny guys
Good food & reasonably priced drinks. Great place for a night out.
We came in for the Tomato show randomly on a Tuesday and it was great. The prices were good and two of the comedians were hilarious. Many of the others were better than you might expect but a few were terrible. Overall great value and a cool format.
This is a very nice venue. Reasonable cost. I didnt feel like a sardine in a can. There was actually room enough to be comfortable. Friendly service too.
Amazing hospitality and great comedians. Highly recommended.
We had a lot of fun here and the Comedy Bar definitely gives Chicago its title of the Comedy Capital of the country. They have free admissions to see up and coming comedians do standup. The drinks were really good and reasonably priced and we had a lot of fun from the standup shows here! The New Years show, however, felt like a bit of a let down as the $33 entry fee was little too much for a show that was only an hour and a half long. Regardless, I highly recommend coming here!
