Absolutely love this Zanies! Classic Chicago comedy club. Youll know youre walking into a historical landmark by all the photos of comedians who have done their sets there throughout the years covering almost every inch of the place. I wish I could spend more time just admiring the ambience and really going through them all. Gives me the chills.
Great spot and great atmosphere. Staff was friendly. The two item minimum was a little weird because we dont drink so picking out two random things to meet the minimum was odd. I guess a $6 water is great! I would have rather just paid more for the tickets to be honest.
Went to a free show and had a good time. My server was cool and had interesting stories. The only reason I’m not giving five stars is because the hostess was rude. I tried to say “hey” in a friendly way and she acted like I was super weird for being polite. As someone who’s worked in customer service, it was subpar service on her account. She was a tall brunette, don’t know her name.
I adore this place. Small, comfy, cozy. Never had a bad time. Ive seen big stars and unknowns here and love them all. Curiously, my favorite shows are with the comedians I have never heard of. Tickets are very affordable.
I attended the 8pm comedy show at Zanies on 7/24/20 with all socially distancing measures in place and felt very safe there. All servers wore masks and gloves and were very friendly and professional. We had temp checks before coming in, everyone wore masks while traveling through the room and we could take them off at our seats, then exited the venue through the side door. Overall, not only was the show hysterical, but the venue seemed very clean and all the customers and staff took precautions very seriously. 5/5 would recommend!
Highly recommend, great variety! Couldnt stop laughing!
Long standing comedy club that has had some greats come through its doors. They have a nice rotation of talent that comes through so plan your experience based on your comedic likes. Venue is small and can get tightly packed. Staff is friendly and attentive. They can have a drink minimum so check the show. Tip: as the drinks flow, so will your comedic experience. Enjoy the show!
A small venue - but boy does it pack a punch! The size of the venue allows for an intimate interaction with the comedians and it is well worth the price. Its also located conveniently in the middle of everything! Not to mention some pretty big names went through this comedy club back in the day. 10/10 would suggest you check out a performance there!
Great comedy club, excellent staff, intimate venue.
Great place to come for a good laugh and to relax after a long day. Food prices are very reasonable, drinks are good though a bit pricey. I recommend the pretzels, nachos, eggrolls, and draft beer for the best bang for your dollar. Pizza was just okay. A good mix of local talent and main act in a comfortable, intimate setting. I recommend getting there early for best seating.
The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is the bathroom. Wow, they need a better ladies room! Only two toilets and one of them wouldnt flush. Plus, the enormous line is in the very narrow hallway were serves walk thru from the kitchen. There is a 2 drink minimum so if course every woman has to pee. Comedians were awesome though! I enjoyed every single one of them!
Zanies is a Chicago classic and a national comedy institution. They have had just about every comedian you can think of gracing their stage, and you will not find a more intimate setting to see your favorite headliner or new rising star. One visit will tell you that they really love what they do, day in and day out here at Zanies.
Theyre one of the best places for stand up in the city by far. Always a great time when we go here.
So much fun and had a great time! Our server Becky was A+ and was a perfect server during the comedy show. Definitely coming back!
Great comedy club. Tight seating, standard minimum 2 item order. Tickets are super reasonable for the quality.
Great night out. 8 of us and the entertainment was great as always. Zanies is always reliable for fun. Whats not to like about laughing and smiling?
For $25 and two drink minimum this place is a good value for the area. We had a good dinner at the Vig across the street and walked over to Zanies for three really good comedians. The crowd was lively and the pace of the acts and their humor were terrific.
Nice cozy atmosphere friendly environment The drinks were great And the entertainment was outstanding yes I will go back there again
Great venue for great entertainment. We loved the show: all the comedians were very, very good. Small place with the seats very close to each other but this is what makes Zanies so special. Two items per person between drinks or food is the only requirement.
Hilarious! Came here with my girlfriend for a date night and we couldnt have been more pleased. I was walking out of here crying from laughter! Joe Machi killed it. Server was great, very quick with getting our drink orders and got us our check right as the show was ending so the process was very smooth.2 item minimum per guest.Make sure to buy your tickets ahead of time if you plan on going on a weekend as they sold out the show and didnt announce it until 5 minutes before the doors opened and there were some people waiting in line outside for 30 minutes or so that were frustrated and had to leave.
Comics were fun and a fight broke out next to me. Whats there not to like for a Chicago comedy club?
I loved the comedian we seen here. I would give it 5 stars but I did not like the seating arrangements.. Too cluttered and close to other people and not very comfortable. Other then that the place is decorated nice and has a lot to look at.
Really great Chicago joint. Service is excellent. They have it down to a science.
Perfect Friday night! Intimate setting between stage to crowd. Really feels like you’re connecting with the performer. The lighting real brings a chill vibe to the ambiance of the room. Low key bar set up in the back and awesome cute staff! Rachel was all smiles and so courteous to me and my friend! I’d definitely go back for another evening!
The comedians were all so funny and entertaining, I had such a blast! The special cocktails were tasty and the service was excellent.
Great show with Gus Johnson w/ Eddie Burback! The only annoying part was the 2 drink or food minimum. I realize they need to make money. Maybe expand the menu and offerings for non alcohol drinkers.
Really enjoyed the club. Price was reasonable and the talent was really good. We got there about 30 minutes early and they gave us a seat up front. Arrive early to get your choice of seats. I would go back.
This is Chicago original comedy club. The place is very small and intimate, slightly cramped, but offers good live stand up performances practically every day. Top notch performers, if you like stand up comedy.
One of the last great comedy clubs in the country. Now we need some decent up and coming comics, the newer ones all over Netflix cant hold a candle to one of the titans of stand-up like a Bobby Slayton, Carllin, Gilbert Gottfried, Belzer, Richard Lewis, or David Brenner (RIP).
A Chicago Institution with Comedy every night of the week. Headliners in a cozy intimate club.
Great comedy club and affordable. I love going to shows and you can usually get tickets last minute.
Great service. Great food. Great comedy.
I saw a show last night. I was pleasantly surprised! The headliner was great! Why was I surprised you ask? Because they showed us what can only be described as a Zanies promotional video before the show. Heres the thing; we already bought tickets. All that video accomplishes is to make the audience wonder if they have made a terrible mistake. The sales pitch is best left for the website where potential customers are looking for info. If the comics are good, you dont need to sell us on a club we are already sitting in.
Great comedians but a small venue Gary friendly wait staff
Had such a great time in this place. Would definitely come back
AWESOME!! What a unique and hilarious piece of history. All the staff were great and very hospitable. The manager, Graham, went out of his way to make us feel welcome and our waitress, Missy, was a doll. A must go to place if you’re ever in the neighborhood.
Always great comedians and a wonderful intimate experience.
The introduction and short story was pretty cool, great amount of history here! The host comedian really funny, the 2nd comedian very funny continuous material!Marcella A. was lost on stage ran out of material after 10 minutes and struggled through a painful maybe additional 30 minutes asking random people in audience who they are and what they are really strange, had several walk outs. She must be much better than last night, I do wish her the best.Zanies, pretty darn cool place, very tight on seating but cool, quick service.
The host and opener were great... the main act was terrible.
Funny comedians love the local host and the bartenders were awesome
This was my first time at Zanies. I was pleasantly surprised to learn about the history of this place. Lots of great talents have come from this training ground. We attended a show on Monday evening. Few international tourists and us, very small crowd but the organizers were just as nice. Also, I was told that one has to purchase food, which I thought was interesting. Im looking forward to attending more shows this summer.
Place is the right size to make it an intimate show, love it!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Great show. Great food/drinks. Great atmosphere.Definitely recommend a visit for anyone in the area.
My wife and I had not laughed that hard for quite a while! Casual environment, crowd was involved, staff was great. The walls are filled with comics who have performed there before they became celebrities, very cool .
Great little gem of up and coming and local comedics.. so much fun
Awesome show, highly recommend
Zanies is by far always cosy and nice! Their stand up is awesome whoever you come to see a must stop if you are in Chicago
Hilarious acts in a very intimate environment!
First time going to zanies and I loved it! Beer was cheap and the comedy was top notch. Location was perfect to just walk around after the show. I will definitely be going back next time I am in town.
Absolutely a great time. HIGHLY recommend.
So much fun! Good service, reasonable prices for drinks and really great laughs! Lives up to the hype!
Really great space with the best visiting and local comics. I would go again over most any other club
Theres a good reason Zanies has been around for decades: its an awesome, intimate venue to experience live stand up comedy.
Saw Shuler King at Zanies. It is a small venue that has lot of heart. Staff was great too!
Weird seating but still nice and push you out of your comfort zone
Had a nice time! The waitress was very nice and the comedy was funny
Great memories with great friends. Cozy, fun, always a great experience. I spent many nights in the audience there, and was fortunate enough to get up on stage a few times too. Every aspect of this club is top notch and intended to provide the audience with an amazing, professional, hilarious experience that they wont soon forget.
It was so much fun! Great talent, amazing atmosphere and the service was attentive. Definitely recommend if you are a comedy fan!
This place is SUPER historic and all of the greats have at one point performed here. Small and long room, but cozy and perfect for what you would think a dive comedy club should be. Do realize there is a two item minimum per person, which is either food or drink items. Good laughs every time I go in, highly recommended!
Ok...they are hit and miss with shows lately but food is always good. Way over priced but good. Its unfortunate the direction the shows have taken lately. Been 3 years since I saw a good show. Overly political. Need to tone down the politics and get back to generally relatable topics of humor.
This is a very intimate, very reasonably priced, fun place to see a comedy show. The drinks are also good. We saw Emo Phillips here and it was a bladt.
Funny show they had a2 drink minimum so that was nice. Or was a great date night
I like this place because of how small it is. You really get s good view of the show no matter where you are seated. There is small plate and drinks to fill your two item minimum. The selection isnt huge but its fairly priced.
Great place to see some stand up in Chicago.
Had an awesome time but was a little warm inside. Would definitely go back!
I usually love coming to Zanies. Typically very funny comedians. Most recent outing to Zanies for my birthday was a disappointment. The MC for the night was hilarious! I usually dont find many female comedians all that funny but this lady was amazing! Upbeat presence and great timing! Who didnt have good timing that night and the reason behind only 3 stars? The service staff! We were at about 10-15 minutes before the show started. Not one server stopped by our table to take our drink order. Keep in mind, 2 item minimum required here. Servers took orders for all other tables around us that were seated after us. The MC went on stage, did her intro and still no service. The first comedian of the night went on stage, finished his set and still no service. The tables around us were on round two and we hadnt even been looked at. We attempted to flag down one of the girls and they all waved us off. Not being shy, I finally went back to the bar and asked if I could directly order our drinks back there since none of the servers wanted to pay attention to us. That got their attention. I couldnt order back at the bar but we finally got a server.
Good comedy venue. Small and cozy with a fun atmosphere. Stick with beers because the mixed drinks are a little weak. The pizza was pretty tasty.
Great stand up comedy place. Tight seating with a two item minimum. Mix of local and national headliners play here. The club is small / intimate so you can have a pretty good view wherever you are. They fill the seats front to back, so get there early if you want to sit closer to the front.
A lot of fun and laughs. They only have pizza and hot pretzels to eat so if you want a healthy meal eat before you go!
Had a great time lots of laughs
I had a ball! Great for date nights
Mark Reedy is one of.the best comedians I have ever heard. Seeing him at Zanies was the Best! Ive never laughed so hard. And the staff were all great!!! What a great night.
Id never been to to a comedy club. I was a little skeptical about how funny it would be but it was really! And it wasnt vulgar or bad so that was nice. Awesome!
I went to a show a couple weeks ago with 9 of my friends. They sat us in the tiniest space that hardly fit 6. When we asked to move we were told no, and that the space typically sits 12. The manager would not make eye contact with me when I attempted to kindly ask if we could move to a larger open space. We purchased our tickets two months in advance. He said they had a “full house”. After asking two more times, which ended up being full on begging...he threw his hands in air and told the staff to reseat us. In the end, the house was not full, and we left with a sour taste in our mouths about the service. The comedy was okay. Feature was meh, and the headliner was decent. I will not return though.
You don’t expect to get great service at a comedy club but Zanies was as good as most any 5 star restaurant. The show was tightly run and the company was great. The pizza was subpar but everything else on the short menu was fine (I wouldn’t come here to eat but didn’t ding them for the food since the drinks were good and the point here is being a comedy club - plus they had amazing nice and fast service).
Funny as hell! Cool atmosphere! Mixed crowd of old school/new school. We caught the 1115 show and the place was packed!
Funny. Intimate atmosphere. Definitely going back.
Had a really fun time
Zanies is an established comedy club with that 70s, 80s feel. It has featured many up & coming comics who have risen to top acts over time. Close seating and interactive stage with a great sound system. The menu is moderately priced. Be prepared for a 100 dollar evening for two - easy!
Dope comedy club that brings in fresh talent
A drunk woman was there causing problems and I wish they would have escorted her out as it was a disruptive
We saw three acts. The 1st one was forgettable, the 2nd comic from Decatur, IL did a REALLY good job. Id see him again. The headliner did a good job and was funny but he got thrown off by someone in the audience during his final joke and he couldnt recover so that was disappointing. 2 drink minimum per person. I would go back.
The starting point for many great comedians. A fun tourist destination for any Chicago vacation.
