I really like the Dock Street Theatre on Church Street in Charleston as a performance venue. You can feel the history and all of the centuries of performances in the building as you are inside. The building itself and architecture are very beautiful and well preserved with so many cool things to see throughout the inside like the paintings and antiques. The venue is not too large and every seat there is a good one as you can see pretty good even from the balcony. I also like all of the different rooms and courtyard of the Dock Street Theatre as there is plenty of room to move around before, during intermission, and after a performance to gather. I also really like that the building is open for free tours for all when there is not a performance. It is a good place to show people around.

Great theater and venue. Small but very nice and well maintained. We came to see the Never More play here and the staff was super friendly. The ushers do an amazing job at assisting and maintaining the quality of the play experience by offering comfortable seating in the back so no one was standing or looking for their seats during the acts. Definitely would recommend and return for future events and productions.

Blue lace of wrought iron balconies and décor is attracting visitors attention from the outside of the theater, nicely organized little historical exhibit is an educational part of the interiors. The theater has public bathroom which is always appreciated by out-of-town tourists.

I came here to watch Beauty in the Beast and I was very impressed with the set up in layout of this theater. No matter where youre sitting youll get a very clear view of the stage and you can hear the actors and actresses performing very well. During the halfway point of the play they had a very good selection of food and wine the employees here were friendly.

First time at the theater, and it was really nice sitting up in the balcony, except for a few things things. 1. The AC way blowing directly on us, and it was freezing. I should have taken a jacket. 2. The seats were a bit uncomfortable. My wife and I kept squirming in our seats trying to get comfy. 3. We couldnt see the entire stage. About 1/4 of the stage was hidden due to the design of the balcony. With that said, the cast was phenomenal, and they have a live orchestra!

If you are in Charleston you must catch a show here! We saw White Christmas and the production was stellar. Even our 13-year-old daughter had a great time. Thats a miracle.

Review №80

If you have a chance to see a show here or attend a gala or event of any kind, DO IT! You wont regret it, as the history simply steeps from this place into the atmosphere and puts everyone in a better mood. The acoustics are wonderful as it feels similar to a cathedral (much like Atlantas Tabernacle but with richer history and clean seats). A show is enjoyable from any level, but I actually prefer the upper balcony as you can see and enjoy the theater as well as the stage performance. If you happen to be loitering after the show is over and everyone leaves, look out for the ghost of Nettie Dickerson that supposedly haunts the second floor... ;)

Usually venue for Spoleto performances but first visit outside of that festival to see Shakespeare in love. Excellent performance. The only issue is that not enough courtyard seating for Intermission and very odd they havent either noticed or addressed it as so many older and even impaired patrons would benefit along with other attendees.
