Beautiful state house. This was the second stop on the freedom trail. Unfortunately, it was closed the day we went(Christmas Day), but we were still able to walk around it and see historical statues like the one pictured of Mary Dyer. We plan of going back to do the tour.

Marvelous piece of architecture. Beautiful...This place can be spotted in Boston by the gold gleaming dome roof which stands out amongst the buildings. It also falls in line of freedom trail.Magnificent, truly amazing and beautifully well kept. I immediately knew I was going to like Boston, and I wasnt wrong. There are multiple historical buildings around and I truly enjoyed the sense of history there was throughout the city. Its really nice to see historical buildings amongst the modern architecture.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit Boston, definitely, I say most definitely take time to visit the very historic State House. You will not be disappointed. The staff here are super professional and friendly. I recommend you set aside a few hours to take it all in, so many statues, murals and history to. The architecture is amazing and the garden is very touching. Paying tribute to those who made our great nation what it is today. Definitely recommend for history buffs, children age 7 and older. There are several floors to be soon. Bring your camera and comfortable walking shoes. There are tours offered as well. Take advantage of this opportunity to see history.

Beautiful and historic building with an eye-catching dome. The building looks remarkably well-preserved after more than 200 years. Tours are available and must be booked in advance. They also offer a virtual tour on their website, which I thought is pretty informative. This was our second stop during our Freedom Trail walking tour of Boston.

The gold leaf dome of this public building is what literally catches your eye, yet inside there are many other treasures to take a look at, like a collection of interesting American flags. Its worth to do a quick 30 min self-guided visit or you can take one of their free tours. The State House sits atop Beacon Hill and was designed by the same architect that created the Capitol, in Washington DC.

We like to tour state capitols and particularly enjoy our tour in Boston. Note for a tour of the State House, you need to call in advance and make a reservation. We had a high school student who was wonderful pointing out when the front doors are used instead of the usual side door entry. The story of the Sacred Cod and Holy Mackerel. We learned stories behind works of art and statues. A very pleasant and interesting tour. Kudos to Max our excellent guide -- one of the best weve had in capitol tours.

The Massachusetts State House was built in 1798 and is located on Beacon Street on the north side of the Boston Common. This is an included stop on the Boston Freedom Trail. Opening Hours 10am to 4pm on Mondays to Friday.Unfortunately we didnt have time to tour the State House but enjoyed seeing the building from the outside. This is a nice colonial house building with a gold gilded dome, there is also an interesting Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Regiment Monument just across the street that is worth seeing. For those interested in the free tours, visit the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts website - State House Tour Information page to learn about the guided tour situation. This will be a good option for those sightseeing the historic attractions on poor weather days as the free tours are indoors.

What a phenomenal place. Seeped in so much history. Please take an hour off and go here to take the tour. While one may expect the tour of the building, it invariably ends up being more than that. In my tour I learned so much about the history of Massachusetts state, the state constitution (oldest functioning constitution in the world), past governors, MAs contributions to the civil war and some fun trivia on governors too. If youre a history and politics buff, youll love it

Outside the building was designed in the mode of the typical US classic government buildings with central dome and wings. A fence surrounded it and there were three entrances into the building. Security was high with guards directing visitors to go through metal detectors and all bags x’rayed.Once inside I was fortunate to catch the start of a tour led by one very knowledgeable docent. We walked through the rotunda, Senate, House of Representatives and the Governor’s office.

Make sure you go all the way upstairs because as long as the legislature isnt in session you are welcome to go inside the chambers.2. Built in 1798, the State House is the seat of government of Massachusetts. The governors office is here, as well as the legislature. The building has been added to over the centuries, but all is richly adorned with fine Italian marble, stained glass windows, wrought iron railings and full of artwork depicting the history of the area. As a government building, it is free and open to the public, but only during normal business hours. This is a must-see for history buffs. Free tours available. Reservations recommended, but they will always take walkins. Yes, the dome is real gold.

They are incredible sculptures in the Nurses Hall, breathtaking stain glass windows by the main staircase, and a dizzying array of flags in the Great Hall (400+ I think). Dont forget to ask how to see the Sacred Cod and the Holy Mackerel...Im not kidding.

No public water fountain in the place. We asked two different information workers and were told there is a vending machine, which we looked at and it has only food. Tour was short and the guide whispered. Someone asked her a question and she said someone else had asked that same question and she still didnt know, which shows me she isnt interested in learning. We wanted to buy a magnet and used the computer ourselves to look up the price and were ready to just use the register ourselves, but I politely asked one of the half a dozen people standing around behind the help desk for help. She acted all annoyed to have to help us.

The security process at the main entrance is of concern. Not sure if the staff went to the same training programme as the TSA but when we put personal items through the scanner and they did not appear we asked where they had gone. No reply from any one. Completely deaf! No acknowledgement of anything we were saying. We did our own search!Item that had gone missing ( camera) found UNDER scanning machine !How does that happen? This a working functional state house and not really worth a visit unless a tour is available which it wasnt.

However, Not one of them could tell me any of the days agendas or direct me to where I needed to go. Pathetic. I truly hope theyre not getting paid.
