I had an ok time at Coal Creek. Parking was kinda tight. Someones dog was off leash and barking at us, so we took a different trail around and ended up hiking much further than I anticipated. We never made it to the Falls but several other hikers said it was all dried up so I dont feel like I was missing much. Cool mushrooms, ferns and slugs.
This was our first time going on this hike. We started on Cougar Mountain and hiked there. The falls had alot of people hanging out and not obeying social distancing. We took a few pictures and hiked back the same way we came in. Im kind of curious to where the trail would take us if we kept going. I will definitely return, when not as many people are out.
A nice hike, and the kids were excited to see lots of big slugs. Be aware that there’s not really any water coming off the falls during the summer.
Long trail.. but good with big kids. Younger kids will get tired because it is not straight it has lot of uphill and downhill.. more specifically it doesnt have place to sit when u reach the place even. And we went on summer so there wasnt any visible fall
Nice change of pace for a walk with the kiddos.
There are few trails that criss-cross each other and you can choose the length of your trail. We wanted to visit the waterfall but it turned out it was almost dried out..water barely falling. I bet its beautiful during rain season :)
Pretty quiet on a Monday, and more c hallenging than I expected. Just because Im not in the best health. (Not COVID), trails are very likely the best marked Ive even seen, and they are mostly on grade and WIDE. Good place for kids, pets, and check the elevation gains, but for our older family too!
Great hike for families and kids, enjoying the pristine woodsy air will refresh and reset you! The round trip hike up to Coal Creek Falls is an hour with a beautiful area to picnic in at the end of the hike.
It was a pleasant hike on well developed trails.
Peaceful and quiet. Easy to hike (2.5 miles round trip). Easy for kids of all ages, but not for strollers. You can access it from Sky Country trailhead or Red Town trailhead. Sky Country is shorter, I believe.
This is a seasonal falls. The time to visit is late fall to mid spring. If you want to see the falls in bloom. The hike is great anytime of the year though and I enjoy the quick trip year round. See the pictures from off and on seasons. It’s a two mile round trip from sky country trail head. Lots of options to extend it.
Lot of green and forestry here. Recommend going here in spring or summer. Double check the weather because its in Washington. Coal Creek Falls is like the hiking reward I would say, but theres plenty to see on the ways.
You have to see this! Absolutely beautiful! The walk was challenging but worth the effort.
Multiple trails with flexibility to choose how much you want to hike. Family enjoyed taking photos at the waterfall and admiring the landscape
Highly recommended early spring during snowmelt and rain!
A very easy and fun adventure. If you like a moderate hike with a ton of slugs you are in for a treat!
Beautiful trails for all range of hikers
A relatively easy hike, a little over a mile from the parking lot. Falls are pretty though werent running much due to recent lack of rain. Trail was in great shape. Would be a lovely hike on a hot day since theres lots of shade, or after big rains when the falls are flowing well.
Cougar mountain reserve is a great in City natural reserve. Coal Creek falls is just a short 30 minute hike up or down from 2 parking lot options. Even though you are in a major city, you will feel as though you are up in the mountains away from it all.
I guess you gotta come in the winter for the water because this summer was none! Boo
A great family hike, with multiple trails for all levels and capabilities
Its a nice and easy kids friendly trek.
The falls were dry unfortunately but it was still a beautiful hike and Id do it again.
A nice place to stop and see. Not a large waterfall but a nice little side stop along the trails.
Beautiful falls on a well-maintained trail. Rated a moderate trail, it is fairly steep but about 2.5 miles total.
This was an exceptionally family friendly hike, with many trail options in the area. My 4yr old hiked the loop with no problems, my 2yr old hiked about half on his own. The fall is really pretty and provided a fun area to rest and explore before venturing back to the car. We absolutely plan to frequent this area with our young family
Beautiful trails. Easy walk
A nice secluded place tucked away from the hustle and bustle.
Thank goodness for the maps at the parking lot! It made it so easy to find the trails leading to the falls!
The falls were nice even though there wasnt much water at the time. Will want to check it out during the fall or spring.
Great hike, though more of short nature walk imo. Family friendly. Beautiful!
A fun home for beginners.
Coal Creek falls was a good hike for kids, although more uphill than they wanted to do :)
Nice neighborhood hike, and a very nice fall when theres water. Not very exciting in dry season, though.
Nice area with easy travelling paths. A couple of muddy areas but easy to get around. Make sure you keep note of the names of the trails, have a map, or take a pic with your phone. Had ample parking
Nice easy hike in from the Sky Country Trailhead: off Clay Pit Rd to the falls. Is a great hike any time of year and weather.
Trail was somewhat muddy, but nice Recommend visiting after it rains to see waterfall.
Lovely hikes accessible even in the winter! Just watch out for icy spots along the trail; bring crampons or microspikes if youve got them.
Really enjoyed the hike, it’s was beautiful. I know this hike is marked as “easy” but for beginners it’s more than enough! You will sweat! :)
Depending on the time of the year, more or less water running down the falls. Its beautiful in the winter with some ice around. Summer has just a trickle to no water running down. There are many trails you can take to get to the falls, none too bad. My 3 year old was able to keep a 27 min mile pace on her own, so anyone can do thing hike.
Fun, short trail. Falls are easy to get to.
Cool place to check out. Though, maybe go on a week day. It may get busy
Pretty small waterfall.
Great for little children but interesting for all!
Short in-town hike with nice little Falls area.
Great falls, 23mins hiking
We went to coal Creek falls. 1.6 mi round trip with 200 ft elevation. Beautiful area without much crowd. Can reach to the water so thats nice.
Nice hike. Plenty of parking. Trails are good for kids. Not much water in the waterfall in July.
It was a nice hike with my toddler. I was a bit disappointed that there was no water fall at this point in August but I guess you have to come just after the snow thaws in order to really see that water fall
Great fall hike. Trail was dry despite recent rains.
Great hiking, but no falls. Still beautiful though. Trails had signs and there were paper maps available at entrance which were helpful. Saw and heard a variety of birds but no sure the species.
Cool waterfall that is in a natural state. Not super far but bring water and a trail map. Trail intersections are marked.
Poorly marked from parking lot and no water mid August
Beautiful easy hike close to the city
Beautiful trail. Lots of options. We did the coal Creek falls. Ate by the bridge. We went in summer . Was told the waterfall is even more plush in April. Worth the hike.
It was an easy hike the falls were just a trickle still a beautiful park
Easy hike for beginners. Beautiful waterfall.
Really nice. Easy trail and yet challenging enough. Great falls. Not that crowded. Great for families with kids.
Beautiful view! We went in April and it took about 45 minutes to get to the falls. Totally worth it.Be sure to wear boots with good grip as the trails can get slippery with all the rain.
Beautiful waterfall, nice wide trail to get there. Highly recommend.
Great trails - come March to May to see the falls. It completely dries up by July but still a pretty trail.
Beautiful, quiet, not too many people. Kinda muddy.
Just 1 mile from Red Town Trailhead.
Great hike. Perfect for young kids. They only have porta-potties at the trailhead and they werent kept very clean.
Beauty hidden in middle of city... Its totally beautifull falls, you can hike right below the falls. Quite a big parking lot..And few trails around this area.
Good trail running close to Seattle
Nice place for hiking
Quick hike in the city.
Nice local walk with beautiful sites If youre located nearby.
Beautiful...
Easy to reach, traveling from parking to the falls takes just a bit over a mile, making it perfect a walk in a park, and who doesnt love waterfalls?
Pretty cool waterfall any the end of an easy hike.
Great hike cant want to go back.
Fun place for hiking
Very good place
Amazing views
Beautiful trail with sessional waterfall and lots of history.
Great little hike, the falls are dried up right now (July 21 2019) for the most part but there is a tiny bit of water left that makes a broken up little creek.
A beautiful hike
Great trails, beautiful hike and family friendly!
Unfortunately not much water this time of the year but s good local hike
No water in Creek or falls at this time of year.
Great hiking area near Seattle area. The network of trails is well-marked so you can meander a variety of loops.
A little gem in the Cougar Mountain Area. Park at the Red Town trailhead and hike in about one mile. Its a nice cool area with plenty of shade yet plenty of light. The waterfalls are not big but they are cool and relaxing. Great for a family day hike with kids right here in the Eastside.
Dont come here its all dry there is no falls
It is always a nice place to hike
Challenging 1.5M+ hike to the falls. Best waterfall after a strong rain.
Good trail for family with kids.
I liked the hike in. It took about 30 minutes. The fall wasnt much but very pretty area.
Nice and moderate hike
This marker currently points to the parking lot. To get to the waterfall, follow the Red Town Trail, then Cave Hole Trail, then Coal Creek Falls Trail. This path takes about 30 minutes to walk. You can return to the parking lot following a slightly longer path: Quarry Trail, then Indian Trail, then Wildside Trail, then Bagley Seam Trail.
Easy trail. Good for family
Beautiful falls.
