This is a beautiful historical house dating back to the 1600s with additions over time. We took the Christmas holiday tour as a group of 18 which was too large for the small rooms. But they made the accommodation so I cant fault them for that.It was a cold day, and some of the rooms were insufficiently heated and drafty so be sure to dress accordingly. The presentations were acted out by docents who played various First Ladies in different rooms heavily decorated for the respective period of the time the First Ladies were in the Whitehouse. We could not ask anything about historical structural features of the lovely rooms because that is covered on the separate historical tour. Our general feeling, mine included, that although its clear in the tour description as to what this would entail, we wished that there was more of a historical talk rather than playacting which got tedious at times. But we appreciated the effort the volunteers put in and their passion.I would suggest taking the historical tour instead and do a Christmas holiday decoration house tour that is sponsored by an historical village on Long Island. I have been on several over the years. If you park on the main road across the street or in a lot they mention, be very careful crossing over as there are no traffic lights to stop the flow of traffic. We actually had to run across to beat out approaching cars.

If you love history then this site is your spot. The tour was amazing and the guide Naomi was very thorough. She new her history on the house and we just loved hearing her speak with such excitement. She answered our questions and it was very engaging. The gift shop has so many charming items I am going back to shop for gifts. Cant wait for the October event.

Interesting place to visit, tours are at specific times, and are worthed, you can have an insight to life in the different stages and years that the families that lived there experienced. And also an inside view of how the people behaved and their liked, and how all that had an influence in everything from the furniture to the decoration. The garden and stable are also very interesting.

While we did not take the tour, the grounds were nice. The plants seemed in need of attention as did the manor house itself. There were hints of ongoing renovation which I was please to see. It would be a shame to let such an historic place fall out of repair. I look forward to returning to check on progress
