Honestly, I would love to give more than two stars. While this is a beautiful historic movie theater, its neglect is showing. I visited several years ago and it was in much better shape then. But now, the breezeway between the entry doors smells of urine. Thats your first impression of the theater. The bathrooms even though updated with new touch touchless paper towel dispensers, the carpet, tile and walls all show their age and neglect. And the floor of the main theater under the seats was just left as bare concrete. A bit disgraceful to an historic theater. Sad really. Hope the owners see this and take care of this little touch of history.
One of Baltimores true gems!! Classic art deco movie theater with a box office out front and a beautiful lobby. I took the family to see Hidden Figures last Saturday. We arrived just as the movie was starting and were still able to get good seats. The way the screen is, I would not be worried about ever having a bad seat or view from the main auditorium. The popcorn and soda was tasty, not over priced... And I was even able to get a glass of wine for me to enjoy. The ladies powder room is HUGE, much like a hotel with a nice seating area. I would highly recommended it for a date night as there are several lovely restaurants within walking distance of the theater!!!
One of the last GREAT old time movie theaters left . A must visit ! Been seeing movies here my whole life . 50+ years !
Only 10 people. They followed social distancing. Movie was good but confusing.
Incredible theater, I love to attend whenever possible. yesterday I had the opportunity to see if revival screening of the 1985 classic, Back to the Future. It was an incredible experience to be able to see this film on the big screen again, let alone in one of Baltimores most iconic theaters.
Best movie theater ever! Big screen viewing is a bucket list item. Popcorn is best around. Definitely something everyone has to do at least once. A piece of history.
A great place to see a movie in a theater rich with history. The actual architecture is stunning inside and the movie experience is just as good. The retro Thursday movies are fun and are a perfect way to see campy classics the way they were meant to be seen.
I love the Senator theater and always try to support such a wonderful and historic theater. Bring a sweater because it can be chilly, but still such an infinitely better experience than the big mega theater complexes.
Beautiful movie house! Nothing can beat this historic building to see your favorite classics as well as new movies. I dont usually like going to the movies but I go here frequently!
Lovely old fashioned movie theater. Great atmosphere and staff. Only downside is that one of the theaters is super tiny. If it’s not on the big screen I don’t go.
Cool, older theater. A few minor upgrades would be great, like better lighting at the snack bar. Still a fun place to go.
The main theatre is the best and the other theatres nice, certainly better than the small Charles theatres. Just a nice place and neighborhood to have dinner or drinks and see a movie. The concession stand is lacking a bit but adequate. A much nicer atmosphere than the big theatre chains and a step above tiny art house theatres.
The historic Senator theater, a throwback to the classic movie houses. The main theater has an epic 70mm screen with superb Dolby surround sound. The seats may not be stadium style or recline, but they are sturdy, allow for plenty of legroom, and the arm rests flip up for easy snuggling with your sweetheart. Also theres almost a full bar in the lobby where you can order beer, wine, mixed drinks and even burgers and fries from the adjacent Clark Burge rrestaurant. Much nicer than most of the sub par fare and your local multiplex.
Great, classic theater in Baltimore. The main theater is a true throwback to the old theater experience - would recommend seeing a movie there.
The Senator has been our family theater for four generations. Its an important piece of Baltimore history, and a temple to the art of Cinema. There is nothing that compares.
This is a Fantastic Movie Theater. It has State of the Art Seating and Sound System
Has an old fashioned feel and look about it. Like youre going to the movies back in the 30s. My teen daughter recently received an art award there. The whole production was fantastic!
Just an Ok place. No special value but convenience is great. No parking lot can be trouble.
Singer Mario barrett in 2002 a song called just a friend & he also performed outside/inside the movie theater
I love the Senator. Lots of choices of movies to see. Old world atmosphere. Friendly staff. Clean. Great bathrooms!
A little chilly tonight, but always great for retro movies!
This theatre is incredible. The staff are calm under even the worst of circumstances, the building is beautifully constructed, and the bar offers food from the burger place next door. You can bring food in from the Care Burger or something, and its all fantastic!
Terrific historical theater! Worth going to see tons of movies here. The atmosphere and ambience is cool!I wish they showed MORE independent, artsy, foreign films which I think they can accommodate given the four screens.Regardless, it’s still a tremendous theater!!
This is a great theater with friendly staff convenient parking and interesting stores around it. A great place for a family movie nite (or matinee).
Still such a cool moviegoing experience and so different from modern theatres. Really gives you a true group experience.
Not bad. Good sound. Good view of screen. Ample parking but you have to hunt a bit. A bit chilly for me close to the entrance (back seats) of theater. Good eats nearby. Would visit again.
There are always tickets available to the latest shows, its nostalgic, great places around to eat. So much nicer than the mall!
A classic renovated theater that holds many premieres for the Baltimore region. Out front is a Graumans Chinese Theater put your handprints in the cement 4 stars that have come for their grand openings and premieres. They show some classic old movies from time to time as well as reset movies that are current now.
Wow. What a hidden gem in Baltimore. Really classy feel to the place, nice bathrooms, and a surprising beer selection.
This is a great little movie theater. Oldschool and beautiful and they play lotsa good movies. They also have a big bar and snack situation.
Comfortable, tiny theater. They have a bar but it only opens when they feel like it
Has stale, dry popcorn. Bathrooms dirty. Movie theater was dirty and unfinished floors..the floor is concrete and they didnt replace the carpet. Very small parking lot otherwise need to use meters. Horrible experience
Its a really amazing building with history and gorgeous screen.
Great leg room. Nice
Classic movie theatre. Has a great Art deco design. It cost alot less to see a first run movie than any other theatre in the area. Food and drink is cheap as well. The screen is huge and the sound system is great.
The premiere on City Poly Love part 1 was featured to get the word out about the historical documentary that is being created. Spring 2020
Historic theater location. The bar is great to stop by at on your way to your seat.
Historic and Beautiful, plus the Bar upgrade and wonderfully attentive staff. What are you waiting for?
Nice theater, nice employees, comfortable seats, good sound system, nice neighborhood. Highly recommend this historic place
Such a cool theatre with great history. Employees Gwen Xavier and Ellston were unbelievably amazing and helpful!!! No on should give them a hard time especially their boss!
I went there at 650 and the bar was open i came out at 7 and they made me go to the bar next door i missed the beginning of my movie because tjey didnt want to run a credit card one more time and i appreciate the security guard he was so kind and offered to pay for my ticket out of his pocket so i could see the movie from the beginning he was great
I love going to the Senator. Never had a problem with any of the staff.
The Belvedere Square area so deserves a true Rennaisance for all and the Senator still stands as a valuable gem for that effort . Relatively no frills (buy a ticket at the window) its great not just for the art Deco building but their mix of mainstream and special series of films means easy access to a wide range of offerings, standing as a good middle ground from other theaters. Huge mainstage screen. Clarkburger and Belvedere Square among other bars nearby means an easy matinee movie and lunch or a late night bite.
Helpful friendly staff, glad its still here, very nice movie experience, I keep coming back
Old school feel. They have a bar
Love the Senator. Took my kids to opening night of all the Harry Potter and Star Wars movies there. Large old theatre with nice art deco details. Good renovation a few years ago where they upgraded the main original theater and added some new smaller theaters so they can run more than one movie at a time.
I love going to the movies here!
Nice large space where they offer alcohol. Plenty of seats to pick from but limited movies and small lobby with dreadful parking. Get there early enough to park!
What a great theater! Theres a full bar inside. The theater holds tons of guests. They show old movies every week too. Its an old theater and is beautiful inside. I cant wait to see another pic there!
The Senator is so special but they do a bad job of cleaning it.
Great to know that this lovely old theater will be around for years to come. Saw a show in one of the smaller added theaters and there was some sound bleed from the main theater in quiet moments, probably also because the main feature was a musical, but the smaller theaters are comfortable and the selection is superb. Service was also friendly.
Free parking but not knowing the area was hard to find (so 4 ). Very clean and people was nice. Food wasnt that bad on price and movie prices was ok. We went at 9:40 it was $11.50 each. Nice seating and big area.
Nice atmosphere, vintage movie theater. The new owners kept the details of the original theater .especially in the main auditorium and lounge/restrooms
Historic theatre with updates for modern expectations. Nicer seats with decent risers so even those of us who are shorter have a chance to see the screen. Renovated restrooms and a bar to augment the regular concession stand beverages. Beautiful lobby, old-fashioned ticket booth, and easy area parking. Lots of nearby restaurants, too, if you want to make it a dinner and a movie night out.
Beautifully restored historic theater that includes some revival films and special events, as well as first-run blockbusters.
Its a great theater. Seats are great picture is large and a great sound system. The staff could use a bit of people skills. The person selling the tickets looked like he really didnt want to be at work. The person selling popcorn was far from friendly. Such a task working the snack bar. The ceiling in the main theater could use a bit of tlc. So sorry to see it showing a bit of neglect.
Great sound, great history, big screen in the main theater, beer and cocktails available, tray tables Im back of main theater.
Love this place can go there and relax and its quiet thats a big difference thank you love it
Best place in Baltimore to watch a movie.
Historic movie house with some updates. Enjoy the art deco design of the main screen area and lobby. Three smaller modern theatres have been added recently. It is a must see for any movie on the big screen in the main theatre. Comfortable seats, great sound system, and high film qualify.
Love this little theatre! It has the old time vibe which is super cute, and serves alcohol which is absolutely brilliant IMO. The only time I prefer a newer theatre is for action movies, where you can tell the difference in sound quality. But every other movie is made more awesome/authentic by the senator!
Beautiful theater! Definitely worth seeing any movie in the main theater!
The Senator is a great old theater that hearkens back to a bygone era when movies were events to dress in your Sunday finest for. As such, the main theater is beautiful and antiquated, with an incredible amount of seating. The other plus side of The Senator is that, due to its larger amount of seats, its not too hard to get into showings even of popular new releases. The downsides are predictable for such an old theater. The screen isnt as massive as you may be accustomed to with newer high-end theaters, the seats are not as comfortable, the sound system isnt as percussive, and there is no stadium seating. Regardless, you cant go wrong with a film at The Senator - a real experience.
Great old traditional theater. Been going there to see new releases and have never been disappointed. There is a nice burger joint down the street which is amazing. Often many people bring the food into the theater and nobody bats an eye.
Offers a good variety of classic, new, and independent films. They also allow food from Clarks Burgers which is phenomenal.
Why wouldn’t you come to this amazing old theater? Great place to see a movie!
Love the cozy and nostalgic feel to this place. Friendly staff and that local business feel
Convenient and a classic venue to view a movie. Compared with more modern theatres, the seating is an issue. Nevertheless, it is totally worth going.
Friendly staff, great popcorn and beverages
Akways love this place, especially the big screen in the main theatre. Very reasonably priced refreshments and great staff. This is a historic theatre, a must visit.
Fabulous place for the BIG SCREEN
Great theater with classic atmosphere and the best matinee ticket prices.
Great ambiance. Historic theater.
The senator is a great place! I much prefer the main theater over the secondary one but still great viewing for a good price
Great place to see a movie.
Great older theatre. Multiple screens and a cool vibe. A refreshing change from the flashy multiplex
Love the idea neighborhood theater. Saw black panther here but I also Love the reboots they have been showing.j ust took my son to see ET. They are playing Casablanca next week.. and you can bring g in food from the burger place next door..
I really enjoyed myself and for it to be so close to my house. There are plenty of places to eat around there the movies are up to date and its real easy to get to by car or public transportation.
Every time we go, we have a great experience. They put on a spectacle for big weekends. Eating Clark burger in the back during a movie is one of my favorite experiences and a great date night.
It can be chaotic when the doors open and everyone is lined up, but otherwise a fantastic movie theater with all the newest movies and some blockbuster throwbacks now and then.
Beautiful historical theater that shows new as well as vintage special shows like The Breakfast Club recently. Limited parking but worth it. Have been going for decades. Will always go here.
Very cool theater, highly recommend
Classic Theater venue in the heart of Baltimores Govans community... Great intimate setting for first run movies...
Good theatre...Always have tickets for movies ! Snacks and drinks are good and cheap !
Awesome old theatre. We loved it. Wanna go back as much as we can. Also the burger joint next door is good and has delicious boozy milkshakes.
One of the highest quality theaters in Maryland. It has specific seating for eating. It allows alcohol and food from its neighboring restaurant. It also has the most comfortable chairs in any theater Ive been in.
First: you can get a craft beer & burger here. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, comfy seats, and stellar sound. Plus theyre into hosting events for the neighborhood. Love.
Our favorite movie theater. Classic art Nouveau.
The experience is greater then the actual accommodations. The theater is old and nostalgic at best, which works to its advantage. It has artwork that recall the cities history. The seats variance of size and staggering could be a little off putting to people accustomed to more modern theaters. They are smaller, a reflection of a time where people packed on less pounds. The quality of the screens and projectors is below average and everytime i saw the rainbow like banding in the corner when the projector could match a gradient I noticed. But the intamacy of the theater and its all over personality made it forgivable. The staff was friendly and accomadating. The theater gets some indie and award season selections so keep it in mind for those times.
Best theater and best crowds every time
How can you not love a classic theatre that shows current released films? The Senator is my go to place to see any current films. This is the way going to see a movie should feel. Thanks for keeping this gem up and running!
Theater is a bit dated at this point. Prices are fair for both tickets and concession. A unique experience visiting the theater itself but its presentation cant compete with the amenities of modern theatres.
Always a great time! Lost my wallet and an associate helped me find it.
Nice historical theater.
