The Netherlands Carillon is a tall bell tower in Rosslyn, Virginia near the U.S. Marine Corp Memorial. It was a gift to the U.S.A from the Netherlands as a thank you for their aid during and after World War II. The bells perform daily and even do summer concerts for the public for free. When they are in season, a tulip field surrounds the tower. Theres a small wooden bench nearby with the best view of D.C. where you can see the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and U.S. Capitol in a row.
Currently under construction.A great place to capture photos of the monuments in DC (specifically the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and U.S Capitol Building). Definitely gets crazy packed when there’s a highly anticipated photographic moment (ex. recent supermoon) - there seems to be enough parking, but not during these events. You have to look for a spot in the nearby neighborhood.
The Carrillon is under wraps right now, so check back for the unveiling...meanwhile, spend a few minutes at the Iwo Jima memorial, just steps away
Beautiful view of the Capital sky line
Under construction and no flowers blooming but good view of DC monuments. Grass and area well taken care of.
Great view over DC and The Mall from here. Sadly the stairs were locked, but the bells at 12 pm were pretty good. Close to USMC memorial and Arlington cemetery as well.A good place to start a walk down to the mall and take in the main sights of DC.
You are treated with an impressive view of the lincoln memorial, Washington monument, and Capitol building all at one time. I would recommend coming here during sunrise for some great photos that you can only get in this area. In addition to that you are close to the Iwo Jima memorial and Arlington national cemetery both of which are must sees on a visit to D.C
This located right side of the gates at FtMyers Arlington National Cemetery. In the spring the tulips bloom to many different colors the grass is so green. This is one many few monument that we have here located in Arlington.
I got married in this park. For a simple park service filing fee and you can have a wedding overlooking the monuments, 10/10 would recommend it. Avoid August.
Good place to take a walk and see DC. Nice and peaceful.
Very cool bit of history within walking distance of Iwo Jima (Marine corps monument). Its also where you can get the best picture of the Capitol, Washington monument, and the Lincoln memorial.
Sadly no bells until 2021. Wonderful to hear when theyre playing though.
Beautiful place! I had never heard of it before (even though its been there since the 60s), until a friend recommended it. We went on beautiful sunny day which we hadnt had in ages! I immediately regretted not packing a picnic. This place has a vast open green space, with plenty of room for a picnic and letting your little ones run around. We enjoyed the tulip beds although only 1/2 of the flowers had bloom. The large tower on the property had melodious bells that rang every hour. Its really the perfect way to enjoy a beautiful sunny day. I will definitely be coming back to see all 10,000 tulips in bloom with a picnic in hand!
Not the most popular monument, yet I find it beautiful. The contrast between the steal tower housing the carillon and the tulips (or other flowers) is wonderful.
As you can see the statues are popular with children! There is a great view of DC. And parking is free for an hour.
Reconstruction = mess
I love the park here. The gardens are shaped like music notes, and there is a beautiful view of the Lincoln memorial, Washington monument, and the Capital building, not to mention the Potomac River!Every Saturday evening in the summer, they do a concert series, when the bells play orchestral music.
Its got a good view of the city, but if youre looking for seating, there are only a few benches, people mostly bring blankets to lie down on. You can definitely go for a walk in Arlington cemetery 2hike still hearing the concert.
Quiet place to hang out with decent views of DC
Great place to visit!!
Little noticed Memorial between Arlington National Cemetery and the Iwo Jima Memorial. The sound of the bells is much more appealing than the structure.
This is a beautiful monument nestled nicely in a quaint quiet part of Arlington. It’s beautiful to walk around and near year round. There is parking nearby and the monument/park also shares a great view of the DC monuments.All-in-all worth sometime to check out if you’re looking to go for a nice stroll or to experience something different in the DMV.
Closed for repairs! Bells removed. Fenced. Blacked out. No notice on Google or other sites.
My son love to hear bells on Carillon
Very beautiful with great views
Nice site, beautiful view of DC, the much needed repair of the carillon will start 2019, expected to be ready 2020.
I truly believe that the Netherlands cleaned there garage out and gifted this to us because it was easier than recycling. Great view of DC though
Daily bell songs at noon and 6pm!
The Carillon, given by the Dutch to say thank you to the American nationa and people is once again in dire need of a restoration. If nothing is done over the next two years, it will probably fall apart. Which would be a pity.
Beautiful Dutch WWII memorial
Beautiful area
Breathtaking view of the National Mall from here. Unique structure and striking architecture. Worth a visit.
Really neat monument and the sound is really pretty when it rings. Close to the Marine Corps Memorial and Arlington Cemetary.
The Netherlands Carillon is a short walk from the US Marine Corps War Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery and it offers some amazing views in to Washington, DC.If youre in to photography then be sure to visit in the spring when the tulips are blooming.
Best ground level view of DC - the tourbuses drive by here every day for the view, if you walk up near the Carillon, youll get an even better one!
Roads that lead to the Netherlands Carillion is still closed due to construction since last year. Parking across from there on Meade Street is very limited to only residents.
Cool
In the middle of a field, using its height to be prominent. Nice-looking monument.
Good place to view fireworks on 4th of July.
A rather cool looking building, right next to the US Marines memorial.
Just amazing park and bells
Truly amazing
A good view.
Dutch heritage!
There are much more nice things around then this one
Beautiful place
One of the ugliest monuments in DC. Its in a great spot, and I mean no disrespect to the people of the Netherlands but it is hideous and decrepit.
Nice!
Carillon my wayward sooooon
