As a wedding photographer who specializes in Catholic weddings, I absolutely adore photographing in the Basilica of Saint Mary in Alexandria. The historic church is beautiful and I especially love the three balconies and the organ. This churchs presence right in the middle of Old Town Alexandria is a beautiful witness to the faith. I look forward to returning to the basilica, both as a wedding photographer and as a local Catholic.
Was invited for a Wednesday service. I enjoyed the sermon and the church is small for a good community. I enjoyed it.
Awesome First Saturday devotions start at 8:00 am.
I love this place. It is beautiful and historic. The parish life is strong and devout.
Beautiful church. One of the earliest catholic churches in the American colonies.
The sweetest church ever!Sweet and friendly congregation
The Basilica is such a blessing to us in Old Town. The new programming is so fruitful and really brings the entire parish community together to engage with one another! Praise God!
Im not Catholic but my wife was, and this was the church she grew up in. The sanctuary is absolutely beautiful, and I can just think she will be happy that her funeral will be held here. The church had been more than accommodating with our needs for our service. For being the oldest Catholic church in Virginia, this place is truly special.
History of the Catholic Church in USA goes through this beautiful home of God. Beautiful, reverence at mass this morning. Home away from home.
The church is historical & beautiful inside. The stained windows are pricelessly gorgeous! Fr. Hathaway is a delightful & personable pastor. Parishioners are welcoming.
Beautiful church. Welcoming priests. Inclusive community.
A beautifully decorated church with fantastic priests. Great teachers and the good word.
The East coast is different from the masses on the West coast. Priest was great. The people were not helpful. Entering and exiting through the heavy doors along with the people blocking me from the railings made movement difficult. This is a very small basilica.
The church is beautiful. Like stepping in to a Catholic Church in an ancient town in Europe.
We love attending this church and the Latin that is incorporated into each service. We do wish there was greater accessibility to the congregational prayers, maybe including them in a missal.
Attended 10 am mass when visiting Old Town Alexandria. A wonderful and holy experience in a beautiful basilica. We wished we were parishioners.
Historic church. George Washington gave a significant donation to this church at its founding. Colonel Fitzgerald, George Washingtons aide, helped found this first Catholic Church in Virginia. George Washington supported religious freedom and pluralism in the new republic.
A beautiful basilica with great priests and great young adult ministry!
Love this church. Proud to be a member
Beautiful church!
Beautiful Mass, great preaching, devout parishioners.
Loved the St. Isaac Jogues Missals and the size and participation of the congregation.
A very good elementary and middle school
Warm, welcoming, congregation. Excellent thought provoking homily.
I love the radical availability of confession. Beautiful place.
Beautiful church. One of the oldest Catholic churches in the Americas. Would recommend.
It is so beautiful church
Such a hauntingly beautiful place.
Great church! The 5pm mass is great!
Beautiful & inspiring. Im not even Catholic and I felt moved
Its historic, beautiful and welcoming. Multiple Masses scheduled daily and on weekends.
Always a blessing to attend Mass at St. Marys!
Wonderful blend of new and old; both the Basilica itself and the teachings.
Great Historic Catholic Church In Alexandria
Fun times to climb to the top of the spires
Great priests and wonderful Mass!
The Balsilica of Saint Marys. Learned that it was the 1st Catholic church in Alexandria and started 1795.
Im on business travel and just realized this church is close to my hotel. Noon daily Mass was well attended and presided by a relatively young priest. Very beautiful old sanctuary. Bulletin suggests an engaged parish with community. I enjoy old churches and will keep this parish in mind next time I travel to Alexandria.
Amazing historic place Fall in love with Alexandria
Beautiful place to worship on a Sunday morning!
Its a beautiful church with a beautiful service. I loved they mix in Latin prayers. The only thing I didnt like about the Mass I attended this past weekend was how the homily became a fundraiser promotion; it took away from the Mass.
The Basilica is an amazing catholic cathedral and the congregation is very welcoming!
Its hard to find parking when you attend mass. Theres no cry room.
The best Catholic Church in old Town Alexandria
Very children friendly.
2 stars for a Beautiful building. Seams holy.1 star for Priests, they are very disapionting. I met some Priests there. Met specially Father Hatthaway and he took away the holiness feeling of the place by his attutude, his behaviour and his unwelcoming words toward me. He shows no love, no compassion, no qualities expected from a man of God .....
I havent been in years. Clergy was solidly RW back then, so not sure if they have become Trumpists or not
Christmas Mass was wonderful.
We love the strong homilies. The priests are correctly pastoral by not being afraid to give guidance on topics that are difficult given our cultures moral decline. The music is generally good except when they get out the Glory and Praise garbage. The ushers NEED to sit down except to collect the offering and hand out bulletins.
Great place to worship. You might experience some racist but theyre very few.
Wonderful historic Catholic church in Old Town Alexandria. Comparatively traditional congregation and staff.
History, architecture and love, peace and happiness.
Father David is holy as he is intelligence...haha. hes awesome.
Beautiful historic church in old town
Warm. Beautiful old church. Only 8.AM weekday Mass for working people. A blessing for me for so many years - especially in the the years of sicknesses before my wife passed..
New to area, messages are good, delivery by priests need improvements. I dont feel a spiritual connection so far with any of the clergy. But the blonde woman who sings at Sundays early mass is wonderful, and worth getting up for. I will keep trying different clergymen for that spirityal connection. The church itself is stunning, and the architecture is beautiful. Very old school. B+
