This is a review of the Mingo Trail and as a visitor, not a local - its rated as hard on the map but I wouldnt call it more than moderate. It has some elevation change so there are plenty of ups and downs. If you start the loop at the north end near the Mingo Lodge, I went right on the loop and I think that was the best way to go. Then all your ups are on wider, gentler slopes, and all your downs are on the steeper paths coming back. Trail markers are EXCELLENT, I doubted one once and ended up on a Seiberling Nature Realm trail that wasnt indicated on the trail map at all. Its a 3ish mile loop, taking about an hour and a half to walk. There is a parking lot right at the head of the trail by the lodge, but when I was there today, the road to it was closed. There *were* cars in the lot and people in the field though, so I dont know if they were there for some official purpose or just drove around the gate in the road (or undid the lock - I noticed a padlock in the gate but it wasnt locked....) I ended up parking around the corner at the Shadowfield parking and taking the jogging trail to the Mingo trailhead.
Oasis of calm and community in NW Akron. Running, walking, picnicking, frisbee -- you cant go wrong!
A leafy gem at the edge of the Valley. Wonderful meadows and hiking trails as well as a well-used walking trail. Dog and kid-friendly. Look for deer and even turkeys on occasion! Connects to the Nature Realm and the Buckeye Trail. I love this place!!!
We are fortunate to have the metro parks and state parks surrounding us in northeast ohio. There are facilities all around that can meet your needs - from a leisurely stroll to a challenging hike, fishing, kayaking, running, biking.Take a look around, Ill bet you find a hidden gem right around the corner, you didnt know existed.
5/5 would walk through here again. Very serene. Can be challenging if youve been a lazy you-know-what like me and have been cooped up working from home. Come for walk, stay for the nature.
Great place to hike and grill out. Plenty of green space to have picnics or whatever.
Sand Run Metro Park never disappoints! It is beautiful in all seasons and I love the variety of trails and trailheads!
A nice little park with basic trails, picnic areas, and recreational opportunities. The park is clean and well supplied with signage and trash cans. Overall the scenery is a bit bland, and there are better parks in the area if you want to be blown away by postcard moments, but definitely a nice community park.
The trails are beautiful with nature. Especially beautiful during this Fall season.
This has some fantastic trails that can be easy or challenging depending on where you start. The park is beautifully maintained which makes the time spent there all the more enjoyable!
Beautiful place to hike with smooth paths for the casual hiker. They also have paths for people who like more rugged terrain that go deeper into the forest.
It appears to he beautifully maintained. I have forgotten how nice it is to just take a moment to appreciate nature, bask in its beauty & awe
Beautiful place for i hike, good for photos and super calming, I walked up stream in slides and had no troubles hiking and had a great time. No path that I am aware of for walks or hikes.
Great experience, big enough for everyone to enjoy, and still feel alone with nature!!!
A lot of people no social distancing no masks. They dont seem to care that their is a pandemic! The view is fantastic the people leave their doggie bags of poop on the trail. Views are excellent.
I love this park. Gorgeous, peaceful, just so glad it is so near my house so I can take advantage!
Beautiful love this place going to go today
Sand Run Metro Park is one of our favorite places. This is exactly the kind of park Akron and NE Ohio is famous for. The trails are clear and well maintained. We just drive up N. Hawkins and the trail head is there. Minutes from all of the nice city hot spots. Great for a day with the family!Family fun day recommendation: Get breakfast at Einstein’s Bagels where Hawkins, West Market and Exchange meet. Arrive at the park late morning and hike for an hour or hour and a half and enjoy the 1.8 miles of the beautifully wooded Dogwood Trail. Take a pair of binoculars and enjoy getting a closer look at the birds. As a family game, get a copy of Trees of Ohio by Stan Tekiela and choose a set of trees to search for. If you’re in the mood for a picnic, stop for lunch at the Shadowfield, Wadsworth Shelter Area. Looking to eat out, finish off the morning by driving less than five minutes back to West Market and choose from a variety of shops or grab snacks and fresh groceries at Whole Foods.
Such a beautiful place! This is my first summer exploring my new city. I was born and raised in Utah and am new to the area. Akron has many beautiful Metro Parks. The little one had the idea and I am so glad we went. The river was low, so we hiked up stream. Very clean and relaxing. We will be back for sure! I cannot wait to check out more Metro Parks this summer.
The loveliest park in summit county. Love the walking trail.
This is my favorite park in Akron. It has good trails, flat trails, hilly trails, picnic areas, pavilions, and lots of trees.
Its just the right get away with walking paths and hiking paths from that Urban environment even if you live in the suburbs its a beautiful spot
Great spot for running or walking the dog. They offer paved trails. You can push a wheelchair here, all the way down to the waterfall. You can also escape into the woods and take some back trails here as well. Fall time is very pretty
Peaceful! So much to see and wonderful adventures!
Love all the different trails around here.
To get away from the crowds pick a Metropark of Summit County you will love it
Beautiful park, very clean just a heads up no pets
Beautiful place for enjoying scenery and nature!
So beautiful! One of Akrons hidden gems!
The trails are a nice difficulty if you want a little bit of a challenge. Very well kept.
Very loving park. There are good trails to go on by walking or riding a bike. Dog friendly. I go to the park at least once a week more when the weather is nicer. Looking forward to going back.
Deer crossed our path! So beautiful!
Great place to run. Im new at it but this spot has great trails. They have big hills for experienced runners and light hills for those like me.
Great place to go hiking with your dog!
The hilly sections are a good gauge of how bad shape I am in. On the plus side, the trails are well kept and challenging (and connect to the nature realm trails). The park is also accessible to a lot of people. On the down side, the main road passes right through the middle - this makes for a pleasant drive but a less agreeable hike since you are always near the road
Cuz my momma n I go there
BIG hike for such a little park!
It is fun but make sure you are ready for very hilly trails. Could be hard with a little one.
Very clean, quiet, peaceful trail and the people and pups are very friendly
Miles of beautiful, scenic trails for you to enjoy! Nature at its best.
The Dogwood trail is definitely a challenge but so worth it for the views.
Beautiful park! Lots of hills to get a good work out!
Huge park. Nice. Damp so watch out for misquotes.
The quality and robust parks in and around the greater Cleveland/Akron area are awesome. Keep on exploring those parks
Another excellent spot to explore
One of my favorite places to take a walk, easy trails and more hilly ones if you want a better workout
A nice little park with basic trails, picnic areas, and recreational opportunities. The park is clean and well supplied with signage and trash cans. Overall the scenery is a bit bland, and there are better parks in the area if you want to be blown away by postcard moments, but definitely a nice community park.
Akron, Ohio. Great park, Akron. Looking forward to Cascade and Gorges.
Simply the best park in Summit County for jogging or walking. The main trail is well maintained and it is close to the road so you feel safe and dont have to worry about being in the middle of the woods. There are always joggers and walkers on the path throughout the day. Great location, especially during the fall. There are also great hiking trails that are often overlooked in the park that are very challenging with steep hills.
If you are anyone like me that loves nature sand Run Metro Park offers not only beautiful scenery but a sense of serenity. It offers different options for the length of your hike and along the way it gives you informative details of particular trees leaves and things of nature on your Trail. If you are looking to just get away from the busyness of the hectic work week sand Run Park is a good option for you or you and yours time. So pack a snack put on your boots and enjoy creation!
All ways a great park for walking
Awesome running trail.
Getting there was the hard part since we were unfamiliar with the area and the road Maps was trying to take us down was closed. Did not see the detour sign until we came back from the other direction. Once we followed the detour signs we were okay. The facility was very nice.
A fantastic place to accomplish all kinds of activities. I run on both the main gravel path and the side dirt paths, all of which are fun to use. The Dogwood trail is the most challenging of them all, with a few very steep inclines. There is also minimal light pollution, so if you do run in the evening I highly recommend bringing a flashlight. There are also plenty of benches and grills for the typical family gatherings, be prepared for holidays to have every one of them taken. Gosh I love living so close!
Great place for hikes from challenging to easy. Wonderful jogging path. Several picnic areas and large, open areas for play.
Had a great walk with my daughter. Long trails that are kept clear and clean. More nature than you can handle and we saw a falcon! I love the Indian trail end of sand run park. I recommend that everyone take at least one long trail walk.
Sand Run has plenty to do for the whole family!! It’s a place where you can hike, run or play sports in the grass field! They have good amenities such as drinking fountains and bathrooms. There’s plenty of trails to hike and at different difficulties! Overall a great place to go and hangout!
Love the trails!
Such a beautiful place to take a walk and relax. Beautiful forest and nice pathways
Love it here. Great trails. Clean.
During the fall this place is amazing! Also, the best running track in area
An excellent park. The walking trails can be super easy or make you sweat.
Great hiking trails
A gem of the valley with all sorts of trails for every level of hiking or running. A great place for a hike or just to find a spot to take in some nature
A great trail! Found Northeast Ohio Rock there...moving to new location! We will be back!
Beautiful place
Fresh morning dew refreshing everything, as birds chirp and crickets sing. I relaxe my mind, body, and soul
This pertains to the North Hawkins entrance. Pretty standard, a little under- maintained compared to the park entrances in wealthier areas. But some great views on the Dogwood trail. Just wish it was a littler clearer at the intersections which trail goes where.
Good park for exercising and just relaxing taking a load off your mind
Love and place cozy and quiet
Google Maps found me on the boundary of Sand Run Park, but actually I was hiking in the adjacent Seiberling Nature Center. The Center has a number of manicured loop trails on a plateau, with two man-made ponds, an herb garden, and a semi-buried museum with meeting rooms and exhibits. The grounds include plantings of pyramidal and weeping-style trees and bushes. Several trails descend into ravines around the plateau for a more challenging hike, and the Mingo Trail connects with Sand Run Park and its trails several hundred feet below.
All the national parks in the Summit County or great oh, theyre beautiful
The Sand Run Metro Park is a great place to go if youre looking for a relaxing outdoor experience. You can go for a run, walk, and walk your pets along the trail and enjoy what the park has to offer.
Out of all the parks in Akron and the Summit region, Sand Metro is my favorite to run at.There is a nice gravel path beside the road solely to walk jog, there are numerous paths through the woods for more extraneous activity, and there’s ever a 1.5 mile path with exercises in between.Lots of different paths and terrain and always well kept up!
A great place to walk or run. Rangers keep the paths perfect and its easy to access.
Love this swath of nature in the middle of Akron, beautiful trails and picnic areas, lovely getaway close by.
Used to walk this trail with my grandparents when I was little. What a great time. Take your kids/grandkids/dogs here. Its a great time. Teach them how to appreciate nature.
One of Ohios best metro parks! Excellent for running, walking, birding a family picnic or just some quiet reflection. Truly Fantastic!
Great place for runners. Run the extension and to Summit Mall to make a challenging run even better (about 10 miles).
Great family fun place
Kids had a great time playing in creek.
Always a wonderful place to bring the kiddos when its nice! A great place to teach em how to make rock paint!
Very nice
Great venue for family or small group.
Loved it.
Beautiful and have been cmong since I was little
Beautiful park with a small indoor nature center and a few walking trails. Perfect place to bring your family, pets, friends, significant other, and/or a phone queued up with Pokemon Go.
I love hiking the trails here!
