Very calm quiet beautiful place to visit. Not very large but very tranquil, even a couple of benches where you can sit and just enjoy the beauty God has created. Maintained well though it doesnt look so polished as in many other locations. Enjoy spending a few hours strolling through the gardens.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the garden! In particular I enjoyed the cottage garden. Thank you to all who keep this garden and make it a beautiful place!
Beautiful walk. Well laid out and nicely labelled plants and trees
It was very pretty, smaller then I thought. It is free to view next to a trail perfect for biking and walking
Nice place, not big but multiple of plants and trees there are. Divided into different zones, very informative and beautiful
Quiet and pleasant experience. The trails in Freedom Park, of which the botanical garden is part, are good for walking.
Great natural spot. The garden was filled with butterflies, bees, and well taken care of plants.
When I think of botanical gardens I think of pretty flowers and bushes. This place had very little in an aesthetics way and what was there was overgrown and looked unkept.
Small garden but nice. Lots of flowers and plants to look at. Tons of butterflies, bees, and dragon flies to watch (at least this time of year). Walked the trail nearby, which was nice but oddly it seems to just go from one end of the park to the other rather than in a loop so we turned around about halfway through.
A pleasant place to spend a weekend afternoon.
We had to hide from the Wedding pictures being taken.
Great natural habitat garden for Eastern Va
Beautiful garden!! They have the butterfly festival coming up next week, definitely a must visit!! Playground and history all in one. Go ape is also located if your want to explore your wild side if zip lining!! Nature is calling!
I LOVED this place! Beautiful! Everyone that helps take care of it is super friendly. It is so well kept and colorful. It looks like it has the spirit of everyone that has helped take care of it. I will definitely be back; there is so much to see!
Gorgeous and a great place to visit for a day trip.
Small quiet place plenty of plants to see and enjoy. Lots of lizards which was fun for the kids to see and point out!
Excellent organization! Helpful and great people skills. Knowledgeable and practical! For children and adults!
Peaceful and relaxing spot carved out on edge of Williamsburg.
Fun little place to visit. It is not as big as I thought it would be. It does pack a large diversity of native vegetation, terrain, formal/informal gardens and so so on. Easy to get around and see the labeled plants. They have a general placard system in place that should be expanded. It does advertise that events can be had there but they must be planned and paid for. Dogs are allowed but must he attended to and cleaned up after. They do have some plants that are for sale there. The only issue is parking. I am unsure if you are supposed to park kn the shoulder of the road or the only spot that would hold two cars.
Its small. But its nice for a quick stroll. Its a good area that has lots of other activities. The garden is great every season except winter, but thats just my opinion.
Beautiful and educational. One of the volunteers stopped to chat to explain things. Quite an enjoyable stroll
I dont see much from that Garden I dont see any roses or none of that its a good Garden
Nice little garden inside Freedom Park. I have been to the park many times but this is my first visit to the gardens. I would have liked to have stayed longer but my kids were not that interested. There are many tags on plants telling you what they are. Very nicely kept and worth visiting again.
Nice place to walk and its free!
Theres nothing to see or do here early in the morning in December. Im sure its a great little Park when the flowers are blooming. The only Wildlife I saw was a squirrel running across the road.
Located in a really large sized park is a beautiful flowery oasis. We had a delightful time looking around, and it was clear that this place is taken care of professionally. A really lovely place.
Nice small garden, volunteers were very knowledgeable.
I absolutely love this place. Solitude. Peace. Colorful. No bathrooms or water fountains, so hit the parks visitor center before heading over here. So many plants, flowers, shrubs, trees. Lizards, frogs, bees, butterflies, birds. Nice pathways to walk. Plenty of chairs and benches to rest. Educational signs to learn from. Well kept and manicured, while also allowing wild growing. Yes, it is small, but that doesnt change just how awesome this place is. Highly recommend.
Beautiful garden with a variety of plants and flowers. It is also located in the middle of a beautiful forest.
It is a lovely garden.
Perfect little sanctuary, labeled items, dogs allowed and a great place to just sit under a tree. Unfortunately, Great Ape is too close and you hear people unnecessarily scream on occasion. We did see a small black snake but would not have noticed if I was not looking as I was hoping to see an animal other than a squirrel.
Cute little garden, free to visit, volunteer run, beautiful plants, well kept; it may take only 15 minutes to saunter through, but if you actually look at all the details or help out you could be there for hours! The surrounding park offers many hours of multi-use trails and several other attractions/features.
It would be better to visit in spring or summer. I went late in the season and saw less flowers. Cute little garden.
A great variety of flora and great for bird watching too.
Small, but plenty to see. Plan on 30 minutes. There were plants for purchase too. Dirt and mulch paths, technically wheelchair accessible. Very nice, free garden.
Im not really a flowery person but... the garden was actually pretty neat. A lot of volunteers have put a lot of hours into this. If you are in the area, its definitely worth your time.
My mom loves botanical gardens so we decided to spend a few hours here while in Williamsburg. Unfortunately, it was very small. Much smaller than we anticipated. It took us about 30 minutes to see the whole thing. It is a lovely space to spend time, just do not expect grandeur.
Little but nice
Kind of depressing. It was run down and needed a lot of TLC and major plant care. On a bright note, the park it was in, was beautiful and well cared for. The botanical gardens were caged in, and poor signage for parking. (Got chewed out by staff for not parking in the right spot). We had a lovely picnic outside in the actual park.
Super fun place to visit
Really excited to explore the botanical garden until we got there. Really small place that can be explored in 20 min or less. We did enjoy the hiking trail which was the only other thing to do since we had made the drive.
Wonderful Gardens. Beautifully laid out . A very pleasant evening walk
Great place
Its small, no staff and lots of bees and dragon flys. There are shady spots but no flowers where there is shade. Its also HOT and not many places to sit. Only gave it 4 stars because its totally free.
A lot of work has been put into this small but wide ranging garden. Lots of plant tags and very nice paths. Very good ideas for plantings and structures. I was very impressed and glad I found it. What a treasure! Keep up the good work!
Small but very beautiful
This is a small garden, and it is not perfectly maintained, but it was a fun and pleasant surprise at Freedom Park. I really enjoyed going and seeing some of the plants and flowers here. I loved the entry gate (creative and fun). The garden offers a peaceful and relaxing experience away from the crowds at other attractions. I am really glad we went.If you go, there is a visitor center with maps of the walking trails asay the park. You may also enjoy seeing the 3 houses there that give the park its name.
Gorgeous grounds and park space. the botanical gardens were pretty overgrown and the labels were very small. otherwise, the park space and bathrooms were clean and well-maintained.
Quaint. Free. Kids park around the corner. As well as historical buildings to walk to. Very nice find in Williamsburg
Top notch trail system. Thanks so much to the people who take a minute to report and help keep it nice.
Not impressed. Very few flower marked but half of it was just wooded area with very little labeled to tell you what it was.
Beautiful...
It is not a botanical garden, it is a fenced in wooded area with some labels. It is also small, located in the middle of a useless round-about.
A lovely place to spend the day with the family. Pet friendly and an easy way to get exercise and see native wildlife and plants.
Garden was kinda small but very pretty.
Great little enclosed botanical garden to view many types of native and shade plants. Benches in shade and a small picnic area are also onsite. Many plants at perimeter are tagged along with other informational boards. Would be great for children to introduce them to common plants, insects, birds and butterflies.
Pretty
Not a good time to visit. Probably excellent in the spring
Very nice interpretive centre. Varied outdoor niches. Quite nice. Im an old fart, but I saw a few kids visiting who were quite fascinated. Well done.
Very relaxing. Nice variety of plants and scrubs.
Went to the Butterfly Festival and got info on plants that attract them plus I got to feed some butterflies. The volunteers did a great job. I would recommend this to families with young children.
Relaxing place to pack a picnic lunch take a stroll through the garden sit at one of many picnic table areas in the Freedom Park and enjoy the beauty of the nature surrounding you. Butterflies, birds including black capped chicadees and Cardinals and Blue Jays. Peaceful and quiet.
Quaint and quiet, best in spring and summer.
Nothing great. Variety of flowers, small place. Bring bug repellent.
Very nice wooded boardwalk walking area. We enjoyed it!
Beautiful place. Great weather on the day I went. Would definitely go again.
I love my visits to the Williamsburg Botanical Garden. I attend most of the monthly lectures and I have purchased many plants at their plant salesThe volunteers are very helpful and friendly. I just became a member.
Extremely pretty, lots of beautiful flowers and plants, great walking space and lots of sitting areas as well.
Not what we were expecting. We do plan to return with hopefully a better experience
Nice gardens with well marked information on plants and s variety of plants natural to different habitats found in the area. Also nice seeing for bird watching and pollinators
Absolutely beautiful and free to visit ! Dog friendly also...
Beautiful and peaceful place that you wont find in most guide books about Williamsburg. It is shaded and run by volunteers so consider giving a little donation if you enjoy the place, Im sure you will!
Beautiful garden and the butterfly festival was amazing!
New and coming along nicely. Excellent trail system at Freedom Park!!!
Clean, well maintained and marked trails. A difficulty rating on the trails would be a nice addition, for hiking.
The welcome center was closed
Kind of on the small side but it was beautiful regardless. A little treasure inside the park. A cute little entry gate. Wouldnt drive too far to see it but if youre close by definitely stop in.
The tidy quaint garden and variety of plants.
Nice garden to visit. It is small but well managed. Great for a short visit that doesnt take all day and free to enter. If you bisit for Go Ape or anything else, this is worthwhile to check out. Great jon James City County Master Gardeners.
Its a very interesting place, lot of different plants and flowers.
Very nice spot! Beautiful garden!!!
This is a beautiful spot. They have a variety of plants and flowers. There are also quite a few shady spots to take a break from the heat.
The Botanical Gardens is a beatiful place to visit. It seems like everything is in bloom right now! Great place to take a lunch and enjoy the beauty!
Beautiful and easy to get to. It was too hot the day we went, but enjoyed it anyway
Attended a party in themain building. Interesting displays. Rain kept us inside.
Nice place
Its so pretty. I definitely suggest coming in the afternoon once it cools off
The garden is tiny, and is still in the process of growth, but a nice place to stop by, if you are visiting the Freedom park.
This garden may be small but if you can find my pictures on here you will see all the small beauties I found there
Nice running trails and lovely gardens!
Lots of great hiking trails.
Really nice but the butterfly garden is very compact
Seems small from the outside, however it has tons of little paths inside and a nice variety of plants.
Beautiful garden with lots of different plants that are well marked.
