What a fun place for the family! If youre visiting Williamsburg and want to go to the beach, but dont want to drive an hour to VA beach, there are several beaches on the James river. Jamestown beach is small, but nice, with a good number of shade trees. The water is a bit murky but totally swimmable, and great for kids as you can walk out hundreds of yards and still touch bottom. They have kayak rental and a small snack bar, both currently open. We had a good time!

A beautiful and quiet day at Jamestown Beach. All the kids have gone back to school, the humidity is down, tourists have gone home, so its a nice quiet friendly Beach. Bathrooms and showers are still open so thats a plus. Sky was blue few clouds perfect day. I wish it were like this all year round.

FRESH WATER!!! What a pleasant surprise! Very secluded, we found this spot by happenstance, it definitely gave us a reason to return!PS the sunset was GLORIOUS!!!

My 1st time visiting and it was amazing! The beach was big, but small. Enough space to social distance and be social. I am going back. The water is not deep and will allow small children to comfortably swim and play!

Unique little sandy beach. Its fresh water, and with calm ripples, or waves. The sand is a bit rocky but not too uncomfortable to walk on. Overall a beautiful place to have a little beach day

Highly recommend! I’ve gone here back in 2011 and the place had little amenities but I came back again in May 2020 with my wife and the place is a lot bigger, cleaner, and looks newer. Definitely recommend if you want to take a road trip through the country road and not take 64 to get here. Family/Pet friendly.

Great little beach park to take your friends, family or dog. The park is well maintained and has many separate areas to gather both on and off the beach. You can see boats and birds from the beach.

Beautiful quiet beach! One of my favorite places! The water is beautifully warm. Plenty of space to go for a swim and rest. Perfect for kids, has plenty places with shallow water. Always very clean! There are picnic areas, grills, bathrooms with free sunscreen. You can buy ice cream, hotdogs and burgers. You can bring your dog. You can rent a kayak. You can watch gorgeous sunsets. Open: 8 am to after the sunset (the employees will usually warn you 30 minutes before close). Parking is free if you are a Jamestown country resident, otherwise it’s $7. But if you come in the evening, they won’t charge you.

This has been my third visit to this beach this summer as a few family members have been 4 or 5 times. We like the beach for a few reasons. Its a little over an hour away from where we live in Virginia. The beach doesnt not get that crowded and we havent seen any jellyfish as well. One can wade out aways from the beach and still touch the bottom. There are small kayaks/playaks to rent as well as paddle boards. The is a public restroom available and a little snack bar. For the folks that dont live in James City county there is a 7 dollar fee to get in. No alcohol is allowed on the beaches but I do see folks drink adult beverages on the beach area. The park is open till sunset but at this time there is no grilling allowed.

A nice beach to chill at. Can get crowded on the weekends! Some trees to shade if needed. Did hear there were some water moccasins the other day.

Such a great find! The water is quite shallow (waist deep) far out. Great for the kids to splash around in, not very wavey. Super clean beach!

Very nice and clean beach. Easy to socially distance. Can wade out 100+ yards into the river without it getting over 5 deep. Has bathrooms, showers for getting sand off, and a small concessions (water, soda, ice cream). Lots of parking a short walk from the beach.

A family- friendly beach. Little to no waves and very shallow. Offers restrooms, showers, concessions, kayak rentals, shaded areas. Amenities cleaned and maintained regularly.

This place is family type atmosphere. You can swim out pretty far. No lifeguard. They do offer kayak and paddle boat rentals 15 dollars a hour. They also have a snack bar for drinks and ice cream. Bathrooms available also. I would come again. The only downside is that you do have too walk a nice distance to get to the beach. Also the day we went seemed too be little tadpoles or I dont know what it was in the water. FYI.

Absolutely beautiful beach area, extremely friendly people. The sediment was also extremely soft, you do have to pay for parking. Please also note that due to COVID the picnic/Grill areas are closed, there is a concession stand where you can grab somethings. You can bring your own food and snacks though.

Great beach. The area is very well kept with plenty of trash and recycling bins nearby. We live the shady side and the snack bar.

Fantastic venue. Adjacent to the Jamestown settlement and museum facilities.Beautifully maintained, easy access and overall a great time.Enjoy a relaxing break from touring the museum and settlement areas. Definitely worth the visit. Enjoyed watching the boats sailing by and the tranquility of it all.

Usually love going there for the beach. Today we decided to try to kayaks. My husband and I paid for two hours. We didn’t realize how painful it would be without the seat backs in the kayak. We came back within five minutes with plans to go across the street to another James County rental place. They refused to give us a refund because the boat “had already gone into the water.” Absolutely poor customer service!

Perfect for families with small children!! The water stays shallow for a very long time and is very calm. There is tons of visablity from the beach and sand for little ones to play in.

We had a marvelous time with our toddler. Water depth was perfect, everyone social distanced and there were options for water adventure..canoeing, paddle boarding. Must go

Great place to spend day on an ocean style beach without all the crowds. Swimming was nice as most of the river out to the middle of the massive James River is waist deep and cold not not at all freezing. Good restroom facilities and snack bar. Cost me $4 in parking for the day.

It was great you can go to different sides where there is the shallow water and food and snacks or the deep side where its more secluded

Beautiful beach. Barely any trash anywhere but the trash cans. Not super packed. How ever bathroom was a long walk

Great Little Beach....plenty of room for social distancing. A little walk from the parking lot...but worth it. Kept very clean.

First time at this place. Excellent environment for family and friends.I drove all the way from Fredericksburg with my son.We will our friends from there to have this great experience.

It was nice they had kayak rentals and s snack bar near by. Water was nice you could walk pretty far out and it was not to deep.

Accessible in 40 minutes from Richmond. Enough picnic benches and space to distance. The water is 3 to 4ft high for about 30 plus yards out. It is safe for kids!

Went for the day it wasnt too crowded parking up close and beautiful scenery will deff be back ! This time with Sun screen lol

Ive been living here for 5 years and just discovered this place! Very cute beach, shallow waters.

This place was like a secret garden.. but in the beach sense. Limited number of people and the water wasnt too deep. Its also well maintained.

Beautiful and peaceful... its a place to walk with your dog, read a book or have a romantic walk with your partner... not for kids and not for swim.

It was a nice, well maintained beach/park. There is a concession stand and mens/womens restrooms. There are outdoor showers to rinse off in after swimming but its only cold water. There are kayaks for rent as well.

This river is shabby and dingy. The road to get there needs to be repaved. It is a mess!!

Great family (including furry) friendly place! Facilities are nice and so are the views. Make sure to follow the speed limit though!

We took our young daughter and two puppies here for day at the beach and had such a great time. Theyre dog friendly and even though the beaches arent very big it wasnt crowded at all.

Was here for my husband’s race. Minus the walk from parking to the beach (there is a trail, but it was under construction during our visit so we had to walk through the field) the facilities are really nice. Good picnic areas, shaded beach in the morning, clean bathroom facilities. Definitely will be visiting again.

We rode the ferry over and completely enjoyed the Jamestown Beach! Great family friendly park!

A lovely little beach with three swimming areas, tucked away behind trees and dunes. The water is generally only a couple of feet deep, so you can often walk out quite far without worries. Ive never stepped on anything scary or yucky in the water. The bottom is sandy (river sandy not ocean sandy).Its within walking distance of historic Jamestown Settlement and the Jamestown-Scotland ferry. Ive seen it get a bit crowded on a hot summer weekend, but the rest of the time its like a little sanctuary. Its a fine spot for events, too.Tempted to give it four stars because its not a tropical paradise or barrier island, but for what it is and where it is, it deserves 5.

Jamestown Beach is a beautiful jewel of a beach with expansive views of the Jamestown ferry and access to the James River for swimming as well as launching small personal watercraft (canoes, kayaks, etc.). There is parking as well as access for ADA individuals, picnic tables, space for throwing frisbees, a sandy beach with breakwaters and a concession stand (open during the summer). Its a relaxing place anytime of the year and is open from 8 a.m. to sunset, 7 days a week.

The beach was great for our first time. The beach was clean, not crowded, and the water was warm. The water wasnt very deep. Which was great for our smaller kids. It had restrooms, and picnic area nearby. We will definitely be back!

The water is not deep at all even when you get more farther its beautiful and a lot of trees and tabels so you can site down and theres a bathroom too but you have to get on a boat with your car to get here its fun
