I asked a tour guide if those were slave quarters and he insisted they were “workers” houses. Then when I went over and spoke to the other tour guide I was informed that yes those “worker’s houses” were for the enslaved. Why can’t that tour guide say the word slave?

Really enjoyed this look at history. The whole of this living museum was so interesting. Watching trades people using the same techniques and tools/materials that would have been available in the 18th century really are engaging

Highly informative place to visit. The actors are very knowledgeable and helpful. Wythe was a very impressive man and his house is nicely done to educate and inform visitors about his role in colonial times.

For whatever reason, i really enjoyed thisnattraction at Colonial Williamsburg. To be fair, it was the second place we visited. However, the staff was impossibly good at describing the significance of the Wythe House amd its importamce in the birth of our nation. Overall - just go to Colonial Williamsburg. Its a real gem of America.

The staff was very friendly to visitors. I honored her (the staff) cooking in the kitchen in very hot weather. (It is intended to show the food but it is real food.) The traditional interior of the house and the backyard are very beautiful! There was sheep and chickens in the backyard. I do not know the history of America. But the story of this house and George Washington was also interesting.

The guides in the house were full of information and very friendly, but to get them to spill the info you had to ask questions or in some way engage them. The seemed to,really enjoy sharing. Each room should have either an information sheet or a costumed guide with a specific minimal bit of info to be given, preferably in a narrative format from one who, lives or works in the house. The best tours are when the guides are actually in character.Years ago the Wythe House tour I went on had people playing parts as the family members and slaves. As you moved from room to room you over heard conversations about an upcoming event from each of their viewpoints. Truly brought history to life.

To think you are walking on the same floors that George Washington did and touching the same handrail on the stairs. Very moving for a history fan!
