Come experience the relics of Jamestowne from 1607 and see the original colony in its restored glory. What a sight to see! Theresa nothing more American than looking at the original buildings while having a Bald Eagle fly overhead. Check out the church, graveyard, archeological points, fort and statues.- reduces or free entry for National Park pass holders- free parking- friendly staff- free guided tours at specific times
Historic Jamestown was such a great place to visit. Our tour guide Justin Bates was excellent. I learned about the first English settlement in America and would recommend people visit Jamestown. We were able to walk through the path that Angela walked one of the first slaves in the English colonies. We were able to see some remains.Inside the museum you can see tools, remains, teeth, weapons amongst other items from Colonial times that were dug up from the Jamestown archeological sites as well as real people dressed in attire from those times performing and explaining some activities from that era.The last tour on the weekends in the winter is at 2pm so keep that in mind and go early. Also you can get a card for active duty military that allows you to visit for free all National Parks so that was a bonus to get.The glassblowing museum is 2 min away make sure you stop by on your way out.P.S: Visit the little cafe inside (Dale House cafe) when you are in there they have the best sloppy Joes and pulled pork sandwiches ever!
This was one of our most favorite places to see. Its amazing that we still have so much from back in the day when our forefathers first landed here!
The tour guides make the visit better. We were there with a school group and I was impressed with the guides ability to keep our kids interested. The museum is nicely done with a nice mix of multi-media and dioramas.
When planning our trip to the area, I knew immediately I wanted to come to the archaeological site. I was not disappointed. Taking the tour through the dig areas, listening to the guide. Actually seeing the real place. It was a powerful experience. The museum on site allowed you to view many of the artifacts discovered already. I would highly recommend this to anyone with an interest in US history or archaeology.
Love discovering historical remains that are well taken care of.
My absolutely most favorite America historic place to visit. I go each year and each year I learn more and more and always something new. So wonderful that Archeologists have found this most fascinating place in our American History. I cant wait to see more as the digs are ongoing at Historic Fort James. I give Jamestown Discovery a 5 Star Rating !
I didnt expect to learn of anything new in our visit today, but it turns out some of the most significant findings were learned from the digs in the last five years. Amber did a great job bringing us up to speed in an hour on the recent and ongoing archeological activity occurring. If you havent ever been here or in the last ten years, theres new information available - stop by and check it out!
Took the Archeological tour here and I had the best time learning about the ongoing Archeological dig they have there. It was so interesting as the tour guide was so knowledgeable and seemed to have such an interest in her field. I would recommend this to anyone that is interested in the jamestown area and its commitment to discovering history.
