A dream come true. What a beautiful house and beautiful scenery. The tour was very interesting and informative, and our guide was brilliant. I really recommend visiting the house especially if you’re a big fan of everything 50s, 60s. You can just imagine how it must’ve been like living there during that period. Amazing! If you plan to go here, book a good couple of months well in advance, especially the evening tour.
Disappointed to not be allowed a camera (you can have a cellphone) during this tour but in every other way I could not have been happier to finally be setting foot in the house I learned about both as a high school photography student and as an architecture undergrad. Truly it lived up to the hype and then some. Make sure to schedule a tour so youre there before sunset and can then appreciate the view as it changes to sunset then night. Such a great tour!!!
So much fun and what a wonderful piece of art! Who would of thought you could spend an hour here just running around taking pictures.
Book tickets for the house tour well in advance! They sell out months in advance. The house itself is fabulous and the guide very kind. You can wonder around the house feely, take as many photos as you want and just enjoy it (as if you lived there)!Very different from the other case study houses where youre not allowed to touch anything!Highly recommended!
The guide was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the house, its history and the surrounding areas. The house itself was a gem: I felt as if I were perched on a cliff top in a glass box but my fear of heights did not rear its ugly head. The views are phenomenal. Twilight/evening tour is definitely the way to go.
A seriously magical house in the Hollywood hills. Built in 1960, this house was part of the famous Case Study House program and is famous for its mid century modern design. Youve seen this house in movies, TV shows, and print ads, but you have to see it in person. Just breathtaking.Tours must be pre-purchased online a few months in advance.
Its just for important details work and patient details
Iconic house in the hills above LA Its a mid-century modern gem, the glass enclosed living room is gorgeous and the views are breathtaking! Our tour guide was very nice and gave us a good history of the house and the family who built it. This place is a photographers paradise, day or night - definitely worth a visit!
Its a great spot to see how dreams and dream houses are made: Hard work, some good timing and meticulous planning.
Absolutely worth the time it takes to get reservations. Sunset tour lets you enjoy the views both day and night. House is well designed and its fun to be able to sit on the furniture and soak it all in.
This unique 2200 sq. ft. House is built on one of the most breathtaking views I have ever had the joy of visiting. We were a group of 20 adults.Sitting in the living room one felt like they were flying. The docent, John, had know the Stahl family for several years. He is a fountain of knowledge about the original architectural design and the phenomenal effort by the senior Mr. Stahl who mostly by himself hauled up tons and tons and tons of broken asphalt and broken concrete and literally hand built the earth foundation for this unique house which is built with 9 ft. High plate glass over 70% of the linear feet of exterior walls. Phenomenal views in every direction.
The Stahl House was excellent. It is an architectural masterpiece. Our guide was extremely helpful and very friendly. I hope that this historical site stays open for years to come, and that I can have a chance to visit it once more.
An absolutely outstanding exhibit of mid century modern architecture designed and built perfectly for the piece of land it was put on. It is timeless and based on its current value will live on forever. Dont miss it while you still can.
Must see for architects and anyone interested in architecture and LA style. I didnt want to leave. Reserve parking. Or come by taxi.
It would be a wonderful place to visit if there is a true interest to show and share the place with people.Instead of the actual owners think only in business and how to make the place a profitable affair. Really unpleasant to deal with them!
Words and cameras don’t do it justice. Phenomenal view of the city, ocean, anything else you can see in LA. Lovely family, lovely home.
The Stahl House (also known as Case Study House #22) is a modernist-styled house designed by architect Pierre Koenig in the Hollywood Hills section of Los Angeles, California, which is known as a frequent set location in American films. Photographic and anecdotal evidence suggests that the architects client, Buck Stahl, may have provided an inspiration for the overall structure
Very good. And excellent service
Beautiful house! A must see! I recommend the evening visit with the sunset. The house has been staged by DWR and looks perfect, views are sensational! Shari was at the house during our visit and shared so many personal moment in the house. She was so nice and passionate about the house. The two guides were also true mid-century lovers and really knowledgeable. Such a great experience!
Must visit in LA. Melissa our guide is a member of the Stahl family and was so informative and friendly. Insane view, gorgeous architecture. Really amazing experience.
This is a really nice place to rent for any special event you may have its beautiful affordable the surroundings are beautiful the employees are very helpful very courteous I highly recommend do your next event at the McCoy Hall.
Go here. A great example of modernist architecture and super lucky to have a case study houses that offers tours. Our guide was great, full of knowledge of the house and the local area. Make sure you book in advance. Amazing view of LA at sunset as a bonus.
What an amazing experience. I took my fiance here for his birthday because, like lots of folks in LA and visiting, he loves architecture but has always had a special love for this house. Its dramatic in photographs, but opening up the door in person and seeing it with your own eyes is such a great experience. So much history, so many great photos to take, and a true representation of LA and Hollywood in the late 1950s / Early 1960s. Its an awesome present to give too -- and the tour guides are so sweet and friendly. The views are breathtaking -- we went during the day but thinking well have to go back for sunset for sure. Also had the pleasure of meeting Bruce and Sharon Stahl, who happened to be in town and staying at the house. They were so great and it felt extra special to hear personal memories they had growing up in the space and the reasons behind little idiosyncrasies of the house. It was a special day for sure. Highly recommend it :) xo
Full view of house requires $50 and a good 3 month advance reservation.
We had an awesome visit and it was so worth it!
Not easy to find. Plus access is private. With a long Mende you can get some shots from the surrounding hills
An absolute classic. Worth the crazy drive up into the hills.
The views at this location are so so beautiful
This house is absolutely beautiful. The design is amazing; there is a reason why so many photographs are taken here! It has featured in various photo shoots, advertising campaigns, films, and TV shows. Known as Case Study House No. 22, it is open for tours to the public. I had the opportunity to come here with several friends earlier this year and I am so grateful that I came. Not only is the architecture beautiful, but the views are breathtaking as well. We did an evening tour and the photos came out really well. There are several restrictions to your visit here. Obviously you have to buy tour tickets ahead of time as all viewings are by reservation only. They also have very limited parking as they allow a maximum of five cars per tour. And they ask that we all come in together, so your entire party needs to be on time. Our tour guide was really nice; he gave us a short introduction and then had us all sign a liability waiver/photography release form. He was on site the entire tour to watch us and also answer any questions we might have; he was very knowledgeable about the house. But for the most part we had the house to ourselves and were allowed to roam around freely... with the exception of the second bedroom. That is the the Stahl familys private bedroom (they are still living in this house) so it is off-limits, although you can take pictures of it (and since it has a glass wall you can look inside). The tours are expensive but worth it. You should definitely come here when you get a chance :)
Great view awesome house.
It was okay, we went there thinking you could just pull up and see the house, but the house is in a private road. Additionally unless you pay to go on the tour you wont really get any good Instagram opportunities.
I Love this house! The best view in the Hollywood Hills. Historical house 22..Awww
Trippy
Great staff and amazing place. A must visit if youre nearby as photos do not do this house justice
Its beautiful. But 90$ for a single gle ticket was crazy! Just look at the pics online
A beautiful stunning view
Great views, great place to visit.
A nice site, reminds me always of the very first Columbo series location!!
As in many of Britains country houses, family members still live here. And for an admirer of mid-century modernism in architecture, this is a rare opportunity. No photograph--even Julius Shulmans--can match the three-dimensional experience of the diaphanous 8-by-10 plate glass enclosures, the rational and highly articulate structure, the drama of the hilltop site, and more than anything else, the centrality of the swimming pool. The story of how Mr. Stahl conceived of using the almost unbuildable site for a house that was to be about the views and how, as an architectural client, he knew very much how to achieve that, is important. The docent did not lecture, but rather, let us occupy the spaces and then engaged us in conversation--almost like having a seminar or afternoon tea. (In fact, the tour graciously provides cold, bottled water.) Feeling like a welcome guest in a family home, I left having had a singular architectural experience. For the first time, I really understood what Steen Eiler Rasmussen meant in his 1959 book, Experiencing Architecture: When his intentions succeed, he is like the perfect host who provides every comfort for his guests so that living with him is a happy experience.
Good
