My favorite place. I love this area especially when the elk are present. Part of the road into the valley is a gravel, curvy road so be careful. Its well worth the drive into the valley to see the elk. Please consider liking my review and following me on social media. Jeff Mullins Photography Adventures. Get Your Hike On!
Is the only place is the south east where you can see Elks in the natural area, they were introduce back to the Great Smoky mountain,The area is laced with abundant wildflowers and wildlife including elk, white-tailed deer, black bears, wild turkey, butterflies and many species of birds. The tranquil scenery is sure to inspire the inner artist in everyone. With several hiking trails, streams for fishing, and preserved buildings from the early 1900’s, there is plenty to explore in Cataloochee Valley
Awesome experience! Well worth the ride!
Gorgeous area. Campground is currently closed due to co vid and road in the valley is also halfway closed but is open for walking.
Beautiful cove in the Western end of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Great place to see elk; this is where they were originally reintroduced to GSMNP. Elk viewing is VERY popular here; it can sometimes be a bit crowded in the prime spots. Campground requires reservations and think twice before hauling a long trailer in as part of the way in/out is a narrow and twisty gravel road. That road is very dusty when dry. There is also a group camp. Cataloochee Creek flows through and offers Brook, Brown, and Rainbow trout. There are a few historic buildings and cemeteries, and plenty of hiking trails to explore.
Amazing as always
