Awesome drive to the middle of nowhere. Makes me think I am way out west. The elk are truly amazing. Great views. Trails are wide and easy to hike or ride bikes on. BUG SPRAY IS A MUST!

Nice place to walk around in and see how folks lived in years past. Nice stream nearby and a shed that served as a cooler. Unfortunately people have mistaken the cooler as a restroom. The stream looked nice enough to fish in but we didn’t stay for that. The road getting to Cataloochee was rough at times so keep that in mind.

Such a cool house and history. short walk from the horse campground, little tree truck bridge to cross. You can walk in the house and go upstairs too.

This place was really cool inside. It was a little eerie upstairs. Love touring historical places and seeing the elk nearby. I got great photos of the grounds.

Wonderful place, great history...used to be a hidden gem but the elk and the internet have ruined that...be prepared to wait in line in your car but well worth it honestly we love that place. Go on a hike to mt sterling fire tower or hit the booger man trail...the trail at the end of the rd is relatively easy short walk to another old house. Go in the evening for best elk viewing take a picnic. Its an unspoiled area for the most part leave only footprints take only what you took in preserve our history

It is cool to see this old house and the way it was built. They used trees from there and built on site. So sad they were made to leave since Park took over. I am happy they let us enjoy the Caldwells love of their home and area.

Love the history in these old buildings. Cataloochee has always been one of my favorite getaways. Only got to see 3, maybe 4 elk from a distance too great to get pics

While watching the Elk, you can walk across the road and visit the Caldwell house, the inside of the house is incredible, the original wood walls are still there and the workmenship is super.

Cataloochee is spectacular. I love it so much I got married at Palmer Chapel. It can be very crowded during peak seasons, so drive carefully and share the road.

Beautiful historic home on the park lands. Please stop writing on the walls. No one cares that Lindsay loves Steven.

Very scenic and well maintained. You can look down into the stream and see trout holding in the water underneath the tree and bridge.
